But, some friends who don't live here anymore, but who have a family cabin on East Bay were with me at the farmers market. We had some extra time on the parking meter, so we decided to check out the shops. We tasted oils and vinegars in fustini and then turned to the right/West. The window displays caught my friends daughter's eye, her daughter went to highschool with my sister. The buyer here/owner has a great eye. I bought some music stickers and some Taylor Swift stickers, lol.

I have been a faithful Ella's shopper for...oh man, a long, long time. 10 years at least. They used to be in this tiny, tiny place and while they did have some pricey, vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, they also had a substantial amount of real vintage, reasonably priced, *amazing* stuff. In particular, I recall that they always had once rack of adorable vintage blouses and none of them were over 30 bucks. I have an incredible lightweight black wool jacket from the 30s that is one of my all-time favorite pieces and I can think of at least three other items that I bought years ago and still adore. A few years ago or so they moved into a huge, beautiful space, still on Front Street. (Side note: I really wish they hadn't gotten rid of their old logo. It was beautiful and what they have now looks like something from Photoshop 101.) Like I said, the space is beautiful and they did a great job on the interior design, but....man, I can just not afford anything in there anymore. And I pretty much literally mean that. The bountiful rack of under-$30 blouses has been reduced to maybe 5 or so only "OK" items. Everything else is very expensive and a lot of it isn't vintage--just the same stuff you see in a lot of these high-end, plastic-y, tourist-trap "SoHo" boutiques that cater to women under a size 10. Don't get me wrong--a lot of the clothes are still beautiful and they do still have a formidable vintage section. Also, they sell Frye boots which I really, really love. I'm just disappointed to see the turn toward catering to tourists and townie yuppies with money. Something else--the staff is stylish and nice, but *way* too pushy. I hate when people try to sell me things when I'm just looking around. Also when they make me feel bad for not buying anything. I still have a place in my heart for Ella's and I still go in every time I visit T.C. I also do recommend checking it out--it is very beautiful and worth looking at! I just wish I could afford to do more than look.

When the snow came this winter went to use the unit that had been tuned for the season by Roys and it froze up. Roys forgot to refill the engine with oil. The engine locked up and is ruined. They refuse to make it right. They gave us an older lesser model that's not equivalent and it doesn't even work. At home snowed in with zero snow removing capabilities after spending thousands on a new machine and regularly having it serviced at Roys. Don't go spend your money there. Yes everyone makes mistakes but good companies are defined how they recover from them and they aren't trying to make this right. Still no snow blower, still snowed in. This company isn't the same as it's reputation leads you to believe.

The tater tots stole the show though as well as the baked beans. Yes its true...the side items were dope compared to the bbq. I gave it the 2nd star because of the patio, nice night and ridiculously fabulous cherry seltzer. The porter and the stout were not very good so pass. Amateur tasting beer. Bottom line...get the tater tots and the seltzer, sit on the patio and enjoy!

I bought myself one (the grey sweatshirt with the great lakes around Michigan illustrated with their names) and one for my fella (same design but in dark blue with white lettering) and we've practically worn them non stop around the house since. They're just so cozy! I also bought myself the long sleeved version of the sweatshirt in a dark blue and it's also very soft and cozy. They don't have a ton of designs (about 4-5 if I remember correctly--a couple Traverse City centric ones and a few Michigan ones) but they have a nice variety in colors, sizes, and styles. So there is something for everyone. Whether you're a TC nut or pro Michigan in general. Both times I went into the store a very lovely gal was working there. We chatted quite a bit and she was super helpful and pleasant to be around. I also got free bumper stickers with both my purchases which was awesome.
