Wilson's is a wonderful multilevel antique store right in downtown Traverse City, filled with furniture, artwork, textiles, clothing, glassware, costume jewelry, dishware, and so much more. I love wandering the crowded "aisles" here searching for surprises tucked into every little nook. My favorite is searching for retro and unique housewares while I inevitably lose my husband to stacks of records, old periodicals, and photographs. There's truly something for everyone, no matter your interest or preferred historical period. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time to dig through. I may have to make a special trip just to visit this store again. Four stories of beautiful antiques. You name it, they had it! Jewelry was waiting around every corner, I found a ring that I just fell in love with as we walked in and couldn't believe my luck that it fit and was within my budget. They were kind enough to hold it up front for me while we explored the rest of the store. There was a little bit of everything and anything here. Vintage wedding dresses, VHS, cassette, CD and vinyls, Pyrex and Corningware, vintage Christmas decorations and even toys and furniture. This place truly has everything. I could have spent a couple hours wandering if I'd had more time. Store was clean and everyone was friendly and incredibly helpful. read more

An angry old man closed early it was 4:50 and I needed 1 item that I had been watching for 1 week it would have taken me 1 minute but nooooo! I don't know a whole lot about antiquing but there sure is a lot to see here! With four floors to browse through I barely made to back to my car before the meter ran out! Different areas have different flavors and different eras are represented throughout the sprawling layout. Seeing a bunch of 70s and 80s stuff made me sweetly nostalgic and also maudlin that the march of time has me myself headed toward bona fide antique status. Hell, even the Jim Croce playing on an antique sound system in one area evoked those feelings. After all my wandering through this museum marketplace the only thing I ended up buying was a single seashell for my mom as my parents condo in Harrison Township has a seaside/nautical theme going on. I could have blown a lot of money here, but splurging on my little Sleeping Bear/Traverse City getaway had me toeing the line of restraint here. Wilson's could go head to head with the big multi-floor antique store in Detroit's Eastern Market. The only reason I can't give it five stars is the sticker shock I got from some of the prices. Again, I'm not super knowledgeable about antiques but pricing seemed pretty erratic. Another reviewer wrote its due to different vendors having their wares under one roof so I like there's something here that helped me make sense of that. At any rate, Wilson's is a fun time machine to blast you into the past while sucking up some of your time in the present. It's definitely worth a walk through whether you buy a postcard, a comic book or drop hundreds of dollars. read more

We only stopped in to this establishment because my aging mother wanted to see if she recognized any of the items they sold from her childhood. She couldn't climb the stairs very well and the elevator was BROKEN so she had to settle on the first floor. My son demanded I buy him one of those demented "Collectibles" from his darned action comics. It looked like the devil!! It was $20 for him to sell his soul to H-e-double hockey sticks. Some of the plates were glowing a horrible green color and that scared me halfway to the grave.. My mother bought a camera that I swear had been used for witchcraft! read more

Very lovely store. I loved all of the items they had. The service was very nice. Some even took me items and put them at the counter so I didn't have to carry them with me. I feel in love with these chairs. I didn't have a big enough room in my car so I could not get them. Overall, awesome. read more

The only reason this place isn't getting 1 star is because it has so much stuff to look at. I have been in countless antique stores around the country and I have never been to one that has had such astronomical prices. These sellers have absolutely no idea what the real market values are and are easily triple that for many things that would be leftover from an estate sale. One booth on the second floor has reproduction signs that a real collector can plainly see marked at $200 each. One booth has three of the most common one piece milk glass gas pump globes marked at 1800-2300 for a very common red crown globe. The staff is a typical nature and irrelevant to any review. If you plan on going here you better have some deep pockets or a few extra arms and legs because that's what you will pay with. It is nice they have an elevator to use too. read more

My boyfriend and I went there during the Cherry Festival and since we are not from the area, we were not aware of the times they were opened and when they closed. We walked in with a big group of people at 5:50, at 6:02 we were in the back just looking at stuff and this lady walked past us and told us they were closed and we needed to leave, so my boyfriend and I go to the front to leave and we are told we are locked in and they had no idea we were in there, one lady gets a real attitude about it saying "it's long past 6, we closed a while ago" and i looked at my phone and it was only 6:02. You would think if they were closed, they would look around the store and check to see if anybody was still in the store! I understand people still being in the store can be a pain, but if you're about to close, generally you ANNOUNCE it to the store that you're about to close and not just ASSUME there is nobody left in there and then be rude AS FUCK when there is still people in there. Completely unbelievable. 0/10 read more

This place is INCREDIBLE! Packed to the gils with trinkets and treasures and many oddities in between. When I go antiquing I want to be surrounded by so many things from all over the world and all through the eras... I want to see different things every time I turn my head different when standing still... I want to uncover an item that tells a story or was obviously cherished.. this place delivers all those expectations and more. There are 4 floors in total and an elevator to ride up to the 4th. The employees are super nice and don't follow you around but also are able to contact booth owners for price negotiation and info on history or origin of an item. Pricing can get crazy but you can totally go in and find any number of things for $20 or less.. great range. We shopped at Wilson's yesterday and spent over $600. Unfortunately, we had a negative experience when we were purchasing our finds. The woman working the cash register was not only grumpy, but she engaged in a dishonest business practice.  In between the time I left her the tag for the lamp I wanted to consider purchasing and when I came back to purchase it, she or someone who works at Wilson's wrote "Firm" on the tag to indicate the vendor would not negotiate the price. At first, I questioned my memory as to whether "Firm" was written on the tag the whole time (I was quite sure it wasn't, but didn't want to accuse her without proof), but after we left, and I checked with my husband, he concurred that "Firm" was **not** written on the tag previously. The prices are high at Wilson's to begin with. She was also reluctant to help us protect our precious items from the rain and during travel. The other woman working at the check-out counter tried to be more gracious and helpful, but she put Scotch tape on our lamp that removed some of the finish when we got home. All in all, I believe the staff at this store are not to be trusted. read more

Being an antique lover myself, I was highly excited to learn of this enormous 4 story antique warehouse! And not to my surprise I loved every minute of exploring the place. Like somebody else said they have SO much great stuff, and the clothing in the basement is awesome, it's really hard to find vintage clothing here in t.c. however, what some other people didn't seem to mention was the staff. I have never been so offended as the times I've visited this place. I find the staff following me throughout the entire place, perhaps thinking i am going to steal? and also was actually asked to leave because they were "closing" when they're sign said they didn't close for another 45 minutes. At one point, I had found a great pair of shoes, but was debating cause the price was a bit high.. I carried them around of a bit and finally decided I could do better at goodwill, upon leaving I was approached and basically accused of stealing the shoes, which I most DEFINITELY did not. I hope that woman felt mighty bad when she saw I put the shoes back right where I had found them! So if you're looking for great antiques this is an awesome place to find some... if you are a younger antique shopper, go elsewhere... apparently wilsons thinks you have to be an antique yourself to appreciate them. read more

Ditto to what was said below. There are four floors of quality antiques here. My wife, a native of the Leelanau, and I always make a point of stopping in while visiting TC. There are so many great vendors and, for the most part, the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend checking out the vintage clothing dealer in the basement. Here you will find many great items! Today we scored several great vintage Pendleton and Woolrich items at great prices (e.g. a near perfect robe for $48, which would retail new around $200!). Why buy new when you can find amazing vintage clothes? This is probably the best antique shop in Grand Traverse. Check it out. read more

This place is just jaw-droppingly amazing to walk through. In fact, the only bad thing I could say is that it might be too overwhelming. I think it's 4 floors (maybe 5) packed to the gills with incredible antiques. You can find just about anything in here. Personally, I'm not a huge antique shopper or buyer, but I appreciate it and I know "good stuff" when I sees it! The prices, when I've ever bothered to look, seem fair (again, this is coming from a novice, at best!) and, honestly, I've never really dealt extensively with the staff, although the one person we encountered on our last visit was very nice and filled us in on the existence of the top floor and the elevator. My advice: take your time browsing through a couple floors, take a break and head across the street to The Dish for some grub or next door to Union Street for a drink or two and then conquer the rest of the store. You almost have to be in shape to really get the full spectrum of this comprehensive antique store. I'm talkin' 4 floors, including one only accessible by elevator. Like a villain's secret lair. Once a furniture store, the employees told me, if you're looking for antiques in Traverse City, this is really the first place to check, with no disrespect to the others we frequent. Every time we go, there is something that calls back a story or a memory from my childhood. I've found games or lamps or toys that I had as a kid in the 70's. When we move into our own house instead of our crappy apartment building, I want a den. And in that den, I want cheesy 50's and 60's bar culture things. At Wilson's, I've discovered so many things that will go in that bar, including a little lamp that has a round bulb cover with the word "BAR" on it. And I'm not even a drinker, really. Every booth offers something for the antique fan (I mean fans of antiques, not ancient collectors...ah, never mind) -- doesn't matter if you're a rookie or a seasoned pro. The prices, at least for the things I checked out, were pretty reasonable. But, I would leave that judgment up to the shopper and what they're looking for specifically. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Be prepared to walk, walk, walk. I have lost many a pound in this place. read more

We visited both of Wilson's stores during an antiquing run through Michigan. We REALLY enjoyed this store. It has multiple floors of items, yet spaces them out enough where we didn't have to dig (for anyone who has felt overwhelmed in rooms packed with too much). It had multiple eras of furniture, dishware, flatware, clothes, mags/comics, furniture, etc. It has arguably the best selection of any store we visited in the area. The service was very kind and welcoming. The pricing (depending on the vendor) ranged from reasonable to very overpriced. For example, we found clothes and vintage containers that were very reasonably priced (having seen similar items at multiple stores). But the silver coins and comics (my areas of expertise) were overpriced even compared to retail outlets. It goes to show, some vendors (within stores like these) price to sell, while others price sentimental value. Nevertheless, we would HIGHLY recommend Wilson to anyone who enjoys spending a few hours antiquing (and it will take that long to get through the entire store). read more

I have NEVER seen so many interesting antiques in one place before! On our trip to Traverse City, my mom and I spent about two and a half hours here looking at everything there was to see. The diversity of the items amazed me! There were vinyl records, jewelry boxes, cooking supplies and cookbooks, lots of beautifully ornate glassware, toys, clothes, old farming tools, bedroom furniture.... It felt like I walked back in time to my great granny's house lol. I was also impressed at how good the items from the Victorian era still looked; there was a black Victorian mourning blouse hanging up and it looked as if though it was just pulled from someone's closet. Also, I about flipped when I saw the WWII helmets; that was awesome!!! Being a horse lover, I kept my eyes open for any horse-related antiques and I wasn't disappointed! I saw an old western saddle, TONS of western and English riding boots, and the item that excited me the most, a vintage Breyer horse model. I've been a collector since I was about six, and that was my very first vintage model. I also found a framed picture of the mighty Man O War's memorial, one of the greatest racehorses of all time. My only real complaint for this place is that they need sturdier stairs. You take one wrong step and those rickety bad boys feel like they're about to give out on you. Yeah it's an antique store, but that doesn't mean your stairs have to be antique as well! Five stars for Wilson Antiques! Thank you for preserving history within your shop for people as young as me to see what life was like before our time. read more

Wilson Antiques is the epicenter of wonderful collectibles and rarities just off of Front St. in Traverse City! The sense of Americana just in the front door is apparent, but the depth of Wilson Antiques is exciting as soon as any cursory walk through the main floor gives way to the additional levels. It didn't take long to find the perfect piece even though this was not the original destination. It is with great admiration that, as a maven of antiques, I write this review. Used to shop the store all the time. Walked in today and ask if they accepted consignment. The answer was "No" and I can respect that decision. The lady behind the register turned to "Owen" for his opinion regarding the two pieces. His attitude was as if he didn't want to leave the showcase that he was leaning on and then flatly dismissed any assistance whatsoever. If that is their attitude for assistance, why would anyone ever rent space their. I will never spend a dollar in that storefront again!!!! read more

I can go into this place for 30 minutes and still not see everything there is to see. I enjoy going back in time and seeing things that have been saved from the trash pile. So many people today live in a throw away society. The items that people preserved and have for sale bring back so many memories. I totally agree with the reviewer about the staff. They have a very "snooty" attitude about them and I am on the high side of 50, so it's not an age thing. I went in today (Their Acme store sent me over) with a mint condition 40+ year old serviced Hamilton Carriage clock and after she finished looking me over, she just shook her head from side to side, didn't even say no. I asked if it wasn't old enough, and she said "nope" I asked if she would be interested in some first edition signed books from the 30's - nope. I then asked what they were buying. "Nothing, we don't need anything." This is the second time I've received the same "attitude" from them. I spent many years in retail, so I KNOW there is a pleasant way to tell someone "no thanks, not interested." Customer service - FAIL read more

Discovered Wilson Antiques other store in Acme across from the Bay! It is huge, well lit, clean and has a great selection of not only antiques and vintage furniture, but some new gift items too, like Polish Pottery. The prices seem pretty low too. The staff is helpful and very friendly. Very impressive store and a must for anyone coming to TC to shop for antiques. read more
