Asked for a fitting and also mentioned that we were interested in the lightly lined versions that were featured 2 for 42 on the front table. The sales girl kinda blew me off and said we need to try these other bras on first to determine size (not sure why they couldn't use the ones I had mentioned, but okay). Once we determined size, she assured me, we could then choose the bra. Okay, so I played along thinking she was being helpful. So my daughter tries on a bunch of bras, none of which were the ones I wanted to try first and of course my daughter fell in love with one particular style which was $55 each. It did fit well and she needs good support, so that's not the issue. Of the stack of bras the sales girl brought to the fitting room, NONE were the style I originally saw and suggested. At the checkout, I asked the sales girl if any of the ones we had tried on were the ones I had mentioned. She said, "oh, I never got to those". By then my daughter was dressed and really didn't want to try on the cheaper version, especially when the sales girl added that they usually ran smaller and were not of the same quality. She sniffed at the whole notion that we would want an inferior product (umm...then why are they selling such products?) I insisted my daughter try one on and of course it didn't impress her like the "cadiilac" model at this point. I told her she could buy 6 bras for the price of the ones she had, so she would have more to choose from and could get fun ones. By then, she was tired of trying on bras and just wanted to leave. We left the store with 3 of the more expensive bras. Yes, they are of good quality and will serve my daughter well (I have owned the same or similar bra in the past and they are indeed a good bra). That's not my gripe. I mentioned to the sales girl that I wish she had at least listened to me initially and started with the bra we first looked at before trying to sell her the most expensive bra in the store, and that I was just disappointed in the sales process. She indicated that that is how she was instructed to sell their products and admitted that we would have never been offered the 2-for-1 bra in a fitting session! How sad is that? Victoria's Secret is teaching these young sales ladies that the sale is more important than the customer. We spent $150 today. I would have spent $150 on 6 bras or 3....the AMOUNT of the sale would have been the same, and if she had treated me with the respect I deserved and allowed us to suggest our preferences and wants in the initial process, I would have gone away a happier customer more apt to come back and spend again. As it is now, this has left a bad taste in my mouth for Victoria's Secret. I am less likely to go back anytime soon. So, they made the $150 sale today, but are losing future sales later. It makes me sad that this is how these young ladies are being trained. Businesses have to make money and sales run businesses. I get that. However, today's sales number would be the same...$150; the intangible good will of a trusting, happy customer is the part of the "sale" that was lost today and that also runs, OR RUINS, businesses. Maybe not big companies like Victoria's Secret right away, but these girls may go on to run their businesses someday, or work for a smaller firm, and if they carry these greedy sales tactics with them, they will be doomed. Better to lose a small sale but keep a happy, loyal customer, than to get a big sale now and nothing later. Sad, just sad.
