Malcom's great too, but you can't help but feel happy to shop with such light that shines from Josiah. There are a million things in there to buy. It is like TJMx , RS and HomeG had a baby and all the good qualities are mixed into one store. The selection of gift options were solid. There are some good bargains and super bargains if you like the hunt. I was also really impressed by how quickly the line moved and the cashier's friendly attitude. I will be back on the days I need a build up positive attitude mostly. That young man should work at Dutch Bros. God bless him for the light he shines. As mentioned in other reviews, there's ample parking and usually homeless people outside. They haven't bothered me or other patrons. There's a bathroom that requires a passcode, probably as an anti-homeless measure... I'm not sure how large other Goodwills tend to be, but I'm always able to walk out of the store with something decent. I've purchased bowls and dishes for about $1/piece, dresses for $8 avg, skirts for about $7 avg, tops for $6 avg. I've even purchased 2 suit sets for $10 each -- 100% silk and 100% wool respectively! Always happy with my experience at this store, although it's more expensive than I'd like a thrift store to be (then again maybe that's just the world we live in, in general). Note: if you donate a bag of clothes, you can get a 20% off coupon, although sometimes the cashier hooks me up with the coupon anyway!

I mostly focus on men's clothing, including suits, shirts, ties, and belts, and this was a decent location for those items. Unfortunately they mostly carry sport coats with very few matched suits. My homeboy was able to find a really nice suit right when we walked in but after 10 or 15 minutes of perusing the rack, I was not as lucky. It was also towards the end of the day and I'm pretty sure with the 50% off sale there were a lot of shoppers that likely combed through the racks before we got to them. They have the full array of both men's and women's clothing, housewares, sporting goods, kitchen wars, etc.. they also had some furniture items, including a couple of love seats and couches. This location also had more bikes and sporting equipment then I am used to seeing.

This seems like a good idear.

Hey there. A couple of months ago, I was looking for a new salon, and a friend had recommended Mercantile. So, I dropped in one afternoon and sat down with Danielle, who is friendly and British. Now you need to understand that my hair is really unforgiving. It's dead straight and full of strange cowlicks that make me (and whoever is cutting my hair) look ridiculous. In high school, I let my hair grow long and tried out a mostly inauthentic drugs/sex/rock persona just so I wouldn't have to deal with it. The only way that I have achieved any kind of short-haired success in life is with the help of a highly-skilled, unreasonably patient, painstaking stylist. Fortunately for me, Danielle turned out to be just such a pro. I showed up with my stupid hair and some vague description of what I was after, and Danielle worked some careful magic on me until every hair was just right. Weeks later, the cut still looked good, even though my hair grows out much faster than I would like. I returned to Danielle after a month for another perfect cut. She's a keeper. read more

I have been getting my hair done at The Mercantile every 6-8 weeks since it opened and I have been a loyal customer of Shauna since 2005. She is amazing! I always get compliments on my hair and I have had many different styles over the years. I have also has my hair done by Danielle. She is a phenomenal colorist. She is an artist, so she just has a sense for color. The salon is friendly and relaxed. I never feel pressured into hairstyles or color trends. They are more about updating the look, but making sure it fits the customer perfectly. The prices are reasonable for the high quality services that are provided. I highly recommend The Mercantile! I get my hair cut and colored by Danielle. She's amazing, I love my hair! She is super stylish and totally 'gets' whatever style or color trends I'm talking about. She discusses the look I'm going for and I'm always happy with the outcome. She's really sweet and it's easy to chat with her during the service. The salon is really cool space and they always have good music playing (Beach House, Kurt Vile, Tame Impala on my most recent visit). It's in a good location downtown (Central & Roosevelt) and there is parking in the back (easy once you know where it is, but a little hard to find the first time). Great vibes, awesome hair! I've been getting my hair cut at the Mercantile since 2010. No one has ever been able to manage my crazy head of hair before Shauna. The shop is beautiful and comfortable, with lots of interesting items for sale, from jewelry to clothing to housewares. A very pleasant experience. I highly recommend a visit! read more

I also explained to my stylist that I'm currently recovering from major surgery and was only four days post-op, which is why I came in for the service since I'm unable to wash my hair myself right now. My stylist was very sweet, but the service itself felt rough during the wash and blow-dry. When the blowout was finished, I was honestly shocked at how underwhelming the result was. There was barely any curl, very little volume, and my hair was frizzy and poofy rather than smooth and polished. It looked nothing like the style I requested or what I've received at Drybar in the past. Because I was already feeling lightheaded and exhausted from surgery recovery, I didn't have the energy to address it in the salon and decided to just go home. However, I called the salon shortly after leaving to explain the situation. Unfortunately, the conversation with the manager, Bailey, made the experience even worse. She immediately came across as defensive and cold rather than empathetic. She told me she would call me back before the end of the day, but I never received a call. During the conversation she questioned why I hadn't said something while I was still there so another stylist could fix it, which felt dismissive given the circumstances I had already explained. I understand that things don't always go perfectly with services, but the way concerns are handled makes all the difference.
