When I got there, the only place buzzing was La Bola - and deservedly so. Only one other business appeared open, but it did not appear staffed. I stop by Merc on Main every once in a while to grab lunch, a coffee, or attend an event, and was recently there to check out the resurrected vintage 'Santa's Workshop' animatronics, which were salvaged from the Sibleys basement, restored, and set up in the area where the giant games were located. About half of the figures have some movement to them, and with holiday music playing in the background, they definitely give a festive atmosphere to the interior space. The day I visited was pretty busy, with diners filling every table in the elevated window seating area that looks out on Main Street, and over half the tables closer to Rococo coffee also full. I decided to also grab take out and try some of the 'new' restaurants. Current offerings in the food court include the upscale and decadent La Bola by Avvino, which now occupies the middle 'island' area that was previously a bar on one side and Rococo coffee on the other. La Boca has a seasonal menu and daily specials, and they are also managing the bar. On the day I visited it seemed like all the window-seating-area patrons were being served on 'real' plates with 'real' cutlery from La Bola. The other 'kiosks' include: -- Palermos, with their variety of freshly made sandwiches; -- Me Gusta, Caribbean cuisine serving fried tostones and fried sweet plantains, yellow and white rice, a variety of meats and veggies in sauces, and desserts; -- Frenchmans Cafe, a newer offering dishing up New-Orleans-style sharables and sandwiches like shrimp po'boys -- Mainstay Broth, serving noodles and Asian fusion bowls There didn't appear to be any restaurants serving out of the Commissary, but it was open selling shelf stable condiments and jarred sauces, coffee beans and other merchandise. Rococo coffee is also still open though their operation is now 'just coffee' drinks - no more pastry case that I could see. I will write reviews of the food I got under the Yelp business pages for Me Gusta and Frenchmans, but suffice to stay everything was really good. I had to run, thus why I got take out, but now knowing how busy it is and how much is on offer at lunch I look forward to going back more regularly! read more

Can I just say how EXCITED I am to fully enjoy this beautiful space once we're all vaccinated and COVID-free? WOW. I am floored by the thoughtful vision put forward by the team at Winn for this previously underutilized building. I stopped by over the long weekend and couldn't stop smiling. From the furniture to the taste of my amazing coffee, I know I'll be back anytime I am downtown. Upon walking in, I immediately felt transported. There's a super cute "Adults only" decal that I think takes you into the cocktail side of the mercantile, but it is a super fun greeting upon walking in. You'll open up the doors to a bright and airy view of eateries, lounges, and tables. Considering the wide variety of food options, I imagine they will be VERY busy once teams are back working downtown full time again. There's large tables to gather making it perfect for team lunches where folks can grab what they want. I am most excited to try Palermo's and Nani's Kitchen next! My rococo coffee was stellar, but that's for a different review. I am SO, so beyond grateful to see our city execute on this and make it so RIGHT. I feel like we, as a city, are generally pretty quick to complain about all the ways government and big business haven't shown up when it mattered. This is an instance where we need to be celebrating JUST as loudly, if not much louder. This achievement is great for small business owners, great for the future of downtown, and great for downtown residents and employees. I want to hang there forever and take every meeting at the Mercantile from now until the end of time. Anyways - please mask up and go patronize these businesses. Or order takeout! Saw the Mercantile to open on the news a week or two ago and today am seeing it open! It as just as neat of a spot as it looked it looked to be on the news! For just opening they have many restaurant/cafe/drink type places of all varieties, something for everyone! Have not tried any of the places yet but am excited to and review them next! The space is modern looking, very open with bright vibrant colors and different furniture all contemporary in style. The space is all centered around the old Sibley Clock with a shared huge table space underneath written on it "meet me At the clock" a tribute to the old building and clock. There is also some giant, life size games to play (closed now due to covid) such as chess, shuffle board and checkers. I definitely see this being a new hip spot to gather in Rochester. read more

I miss the Asian laotian place. N the food from Nawlins (New Orleans) caught my eyes. I had the shrimp salad soooo good. Soooo flavorful. Great texture from the cabbage. Also tried the buffalo turkey necks. Very good too. The chef n guy's working very enthusiastic n proud. As should be. Excellent food!!!! Will be back when i come back to town. This is such a cool space! Been here twice and looking forward to coming back during more peak hours. Both times I've came here have been later on at night, so not all of the vendors were open. The space itself is very appealing. Nicely decorated, spaced out tables, a bar area, and an area with games. I imagine this being a great meeting spot with more businesses opening back up. The places I've tried were Cut and Nani's kitchen. Both great, high quality food with pretty extensive options for a cafeteria style type of place. Check this place out for sure! Went to Mercantile on Main today to check it out, and it is such a cool space! I love that you can order online or in person and the options are really varied. I got a salad from cut and it was excellent! I had such a tough time choosing because there were so many fresh options. I ended up getting the salad with cauliflower and the salsa dressing. Everything was super fresh and flavorful, but the taste of the veggies didn't overpower the dressing which was very delicious. It was also a good portion size and was packaged nicely (the dressing comes in a container within the bigger salad container). My boyfriend got burger from Palermos and he said it was awesome and the chips on the side seemed homemade and very flavorful. He also got fresh juice (SO GOOD) and an octopus salad which seemed authentic and unique. I didn't get anything from Rocococo but if I didn't already have my cup of coffee for the day I would have! The options are great and they have oat milk and soy milk. Everyone was super friendly too within the market. They have public restrooms for patrons. And the space is VERY large (and has high ceilings) so you don't feel cramped in (which is awesome during covid). Will definitely be back! read more

THIS PLACE IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!! We've only been to Nani's Kitchen so far, but plan to go back to try all of the restaurants. Excited for days when the pandemic doesn't limit indoor gatherings, because the Mercantile on Main has done a GREAT job creating a gathering space with huge games to play, spaces to eat as a group, affordably-priced options, and where there's something for everyone (since all could theoretically eat at separate restaurants, while sitting together to "break bread.") The heritage of Sibley's "Meet Me Under the Clock" has been preserved, and there are many other historic artifacts and touches from the days when Sibley's was THE department store destination. The food hall is such a great concept to have available to us in Rochester! I was really sad to see how empty it was on a Friday night and in turn how early the businesses closed. Each business has their own exterior designs which are so beautiful, but the space is tied together with bright colors and the awesome common area. We sampled a bit from a few of the stalls and really enjoyed everything! Looking forward to going back and trying more! I visited Mercantile on Main about a month ago and was impressed. As this is a new development, I loved the modern and sleek feel. Also, I appreciated how there is a variety of food options, even for the picky and healthy eaters. I got the Indian tacos from Nani's. They were quite delicious, although I wish the fried naan didn't fall apart so easily. I also was sad that one of the restaurants was not yet open, although I am unsure if they are all open now. Good spot for lunch especially if youre going with someone else and you both are in the mood for different things. There are several spots to get food in the building -- ranging from salads to curry, and a seating area you can sit together after you get your food. This review is only for Flour Kitchen. We got delivery through Uber Eats. The Bucatini, the linguini with shrimp, and the broccoli rabe side. The Bucatini was fine. Nothing to write home about. The guanciale couldve been rendered more but otherwise tasted fine. A bit greasy. The linguini had this very strong seafood flavor and not in a good way, which was a bit odd to me since shrimp was the only seafood in it. Also, entire cloves of garlic is not particularly appetizing, even if it's been cooked but thats more personal preference. Not a fan. The broccoli rabe was the mushiest most bitter broccoli rabe I have ever had in my life. I don't even know how it could be so bitter and mushy. I usually love broccoli rabe but this was a huge miss, would strongly recommend passing on. The serving sizes are also somewhat small by Rochester standards, which I may not have even noticed if the food tasted better. IMHO there are much better Italian restaurants in Rochester at this point to patron. read more

Walked down from convention center a little after 7 on a Wednesday eve, figuring this would be an interesting place for a solo diner to eat in or take out and try some local flavors. After walking a couple blocks past several burned out buildings and concerns about being mugged, I arrived at 715 only to find the entire establishment closed...although the hours posted on google were until 8pm. I love the food here, BUT the inconsistent hours of the businesses has stopped me and my family from going. We live about 25 minutes away and would go fairly often only to find Broth, Flour Kitchen, and Cut closed at random times despite their individual pages or/IG stating that they are open. This has happened six times, most recent being last week when Flour, Broth and Cut were all closed at 2:00. Not worth wasting my time. This is such a cool spot, I'm so glad they're trying to breathe some life back into this old building. I can't help but imagine what it was like as a big shopping center in the 1930's every time I walk in here. The mercantile is currently home to a few food stalls and a coffee bar, as well as a dining space and some games (like giant chess and curling) So far we have eaten at Broth and Cut and have had good meals both times! Looking forward to trying the other stalls. The pho we had from Broth was super flavorful and a good portion size. The idea of having so many different cuisines all in one location is genius. I've been able to try Palermo's and Rocco. I went here for the first time to check out rococo coffee and I was very impressed. I had a hot apple cider and latte, which was delicious . I received great customer service from rococo, as well as Palermo's market! If you're going to Palermo's market, you've got to try their breakfast sandwich combo! The food was great! Went there on a visit to try new food! When me and my friends arrived. Let me tell you . It's very bland esthetically to the eye! The restaurants are very slack when it comes to sanitation and cleanliness. While sitting I observed an employee on her day off showing off a new (dog)pet she acquired. No this was not a puppy but a adult size dog. Furthermore she went to every station to show the workers the new dog she got and to my surprise the workers from behind the counter went and started petting the dog! I witnessed one worker allow the dog to jump on her and lick her in the face! Another worker was cutting onions and went to pet the dog and went back to cutting onions!!!! I was highly disgusted! I went to the indian restaurant and advised the worker to please wash his hands before finishing my food! I then went to security and advised her and she stated that's why I don't eat !! and I don't blame her! This place is disgusting and will never eat here again! read more
