Stopped by on the morning of "Three Kings Day" to purchase a Rosca. First time at this store. They have a few parking spots out on the front. The store looked well organized and clean. I was on a mission last Saturday. I was making mole de pollo at home for the first time, and my recipe called for tomatillos. I had no idea what tomatillos were. Of course I googled it, and found that they are a cousin of the tomato, but are green and have a husk. They are a staple in Mexican foods. I went to Whole Foods. They didn't have any. Then I turned to Yelp! and searched for Mexican markets in my area. That's how I found Mercado del Valle. I called first and the friendly woman who answered the told me, upon my inquiry, that they indeed had tomatillos in stock. I drove straight to the store, bought my tomatillos, and was on my way. I had a quick browse around the store. Though all of the employees were wearing masks and gloves while practicing social distancing, many of the patrons in the store were not doing so. I would have done some major browsing and additional purchasing in another time. What I did see at Mercado Del Valle was a clean, well-arranged store. The produce was of very good quality and the butcher store appeared to have a wide selection of meats. The employees that I interacted with were friendly. I'll be back. read more

Saw their bit on channel 11's Eat It Up and had to try. Excellent, informative service. We sampled several things before deciding on our burrito combinations. We both had pulled pork, mine with beef and cactus, his with fajita chicken. Both were fantastic. The pickled onions were a spicy delight. They aren't afraid of spices here and they know how to use them. Wonderful flavors. Spicy but not really hot. We had plenty and brought leftovers home. The store is clean and well stocked. This review is for the carniceria (butcher shop). We did not dine in. Got some of the chicken meat for tacos since it was on sale. Cheap and a fairly decent cut of meat, already deboned too! Made for some delicious tacos. There might be a language barrier between you and the butcher, but that lends to its credibility as a legit Mexican mercado. read more

Mercado Del Valle is an old style mex supermarket with a meat counter. mex groceries, beers, taqueria, a money order counter but no mex. bakery (that i saw) was considering tacos (@1.49) but only one person was eating at l-ish. didn't seem like a good sign. they have other prepped foods also. but no customers. so passed. The tacos Al pastor are soooo good ! They cook it slow on a rotisserie thing, just like I had it in Ensenada a while back. The salsa is good too. They hired new people recently and the service is hella slow now so be ready to wait. Some of the ladies here in the front end and taqueria have bad attitudes but there's a few friendly people too who always greet me with a smile. Definitely recommend the tacos though! read more

This review is only for the taqueria and not the Supermercado itself. I was very excited upon walking in. The small dining area was full (good sign) and I saw roasted jalepenos on a couple of places. My fave! The woman at the register also couldn't explain the difference between a regular or a super taco that well - this, too, is a good sign. Less English = Better Taco. BUT... we placed our orders (1 pollo y 1 carnitas for me ~ 1 carnitas y 1 carne asada for my fiance) $6.54 total, we waited, and soon after we received two plates of food. We had to ask for the forgotten chips and salsa. My plate had a lime and a radish on it. My fiance's did not. He didn't miss them but I wanted his so that was no bueno. The chips are the really thick-cut style. Weren 't anything terrific. And while the green salsa was a little better than the red, they were both in such small cups you could wet the corner of a chip but doing much more than that was out of the question. No roasted jalepeno (I guess I could've asked for this though). The meat wasn't bad. Except for his carne taco. He said it had a bad taste and a lot of the pieces were sort of fatty. The pollo was great! Too much great taquerias on Monument to settle for a mediocre one. Oh! And something (good) you don't see often... they had three different hot sauces floating around on their tables. One was Tapatio, but the other two were more authentic - and were both pretty good! This review is for the Taqueria, I was there today to purchase some tortillas for dinner, it was during my lunch time so I decided to order a pastor burrito. Customer service was great, a young lady helped me out and took my order. I had asked for avocado on the burrito and it seem like they where out or them so the one preparing my burrito asked another lady to go grab her an avocado, so this other lady went to pick up the avocado from the stack at the front of the store, saw her grab a couple of them and came back, she did all this while she had her gloves on from whatever task she was doing prior to going to get this avocado. She made it back to the kitchen, and proceeded to chop up the avocado, added it to my burrito and without changing cloves closed up the burrito and wrapped up. As she brought it to me I asked if she could redo the burrito because she did not change her gloves prior to touching the burrito, and she said "this ones I have are washable because we do not have extra", so I said did you wash your hands prior to touching the burrito and she said "no but they are washable". I asked for a refund instead and she was laughing as I was getting this refund. I was very dissapointed because not only did they took forever to make the burrito almost 20 min, but they also failed to properly handle the food and during this pandemic food handling in the proper way should be their main priority. read more

Small place, almost no English being spoken, food that should be banned by the CDC, FDA and AMA for being dangerous to your cardiovascular system. In a word... heavenly. My wife brought me a burrito from this place today for lunch. A pastor burrito with no sour cream! Filling, tasty and just a damn good time. A fiesta in my mouth. I love this lil' market! The workers are quite friendly and helpful. The meat counter sells the best marinated fajitas (which are reasonably priced and sooooo flavorful) with chicken, onion, and peppers to take home to cook. Grab some refried beans and rice at the attached taqueria and you'll be set for a quick but tasty fajita feast! read more

Me gusta! This place is close to my work, and they carry all the basics. The taqueria and Deli/Meat counter look pretty impressive, but I haven't tried them. I pick up staples here - masa, dried chilies, spices, chocolate, achiote, etc. There isn't a much selection of regional/specialty/local/organic items. For that stuff, I stop by Mi Tierra in Berkeley. The staff is mostly bi-lingual, but I can get by talking to the others with my pigeon-spanish. They are always helpful and very friendly. read more

I go for the taqueria too. Their tamales are the sh*t, my fav is the pork ones, the meat is marinated in green sauce which makes them savory. The chicken ones are in red sauce and kind of spicy, and I don't do the beef so I'm not sure. They are pre-made and are always super moist & warm and delicious (only $1.50/ea). Ok... First review in yelp ever. Tacos, enchiladas and other Mexican food, yes they have it. Hands down without doubt their best meal and the reason I'm writing this review is their Al Pastor Burrito. Just to give you an example.... about five years or so I moved to New York. New York is a big place and like in California there is many Hispanics, which includes many Mexicans. The Mexicans there are from the southern part of Mexico. i.e Puebla, Morelos and Mexito city just to name a few states. The cuisine from this region of Mexico is so different from what you and I are used to see in the Mexican restaurants here in California. So, where am I going with this? I couldn't find a descent burrito place in New York that tasted as the ones I had in California. My girlfriend at the time was about to visit me in New York after about 5 months of living there. When she asked what I wanted from California, guess what I responded? Indeed I wanted a burrito. But not any burrito. I wanted an Al Pastor Burrito from Mercado del Valle in Concord. My beautiful girlfriend at the time granted my wish. I guess that's part of the reason I married her! : ) That was one of the best Burritos I have ever had. So you see... this burritos are good and are probably the only ones that have been delivered all the way to New York. Enjoy! read more

When I want REAL Mexican food (which is always) and I'm in the east bay, this is where I go. They speak English so gringos like myself can order and I always get a carnitas torta with a styrofoam cup of horchata. The soft carne asada tacos are delectable too. Carne asada taco was small but mighty tasty with lots of meat, and the grilled chicken burrito was alright but could have been better, perhaps some extra seasoning on the chicken. I have been going to this Market for about 5 years and it has been great. The meats in the Carniceria are always fresh and so is the produce. However, the taqueria is another story. We have eaten at the taqueria many times but lately, we have been getting sick from the food. My husband bought a torta that had bad cheese in it, I had a burrito with spoiled sour cream and last night was the worse. My daughter had rice, beans and meat and the beans were bad. We didn't figure it out until she threw up at home. Do NOT eat at this place unless you want to get sick!! The food might look good, but I don't think it's stored at proper temperature and it spoils. STAY AWAY from this place!! I'm never eating there again!! read more

i got a dozen tamales here and when i got home i found that they were burned. the meat and ends were black and charcoal colored. the masa was so over cooked it crumbled when i tried to cut it. i had heard such great things about this place but if this is what they serve, i will not be back nor will i recommend it to anyone else. read more
