Super cute speakeasy. Flavorful drinks and bites on the happy hour menu. Really quick service

Bars with secret entrances are better than bars with regular entrances, that's an unspoken fact. For Meo, the entrance was pretty obvious since you can see the outline of the door. And anyone with a shred of intelligence should be able to figure out how to open it lol. The high ceilings inside was impressive, and the handmade koi fish light decoration on the wall was even more impressive. Didn't get to try the alcoholic drinks since I had a half marathon in 2 weeks, but loved the cocktail options with a touch of asian ingredients. #328

Ban-anarchy. The drink sounds sweet but it's a good balance and not sweet at all.

Really quaint speakeasy and I love the decor inside. Mo and Vy were great bar tenders and the service was top notch. Drinks on their menu are creative and it's a fun vibe. They no longer have dumplings on their current menu - it's geared more towards Vietnamese flavors and small bites.

    Herb Your Enthusiasm

My second speakeasy ever! Had such an amazing time I'm now starting to plan a speakeasy tour w some friends. Both drinks I had were fabulous. Dark Matter & Herb Your Enthusiasm. The balsamic and ground onion rim was an unexpected delight and added a complexity of flavors that had me wanting to drink multiples to fully be able to explore the depths. The Herb Your Enthusiasm was both light and smokey at the same time. As with the Dark Matter I wanted to drink it by the gallon. Every sip had me take an extra moment to savor the multidimensional taste. Each crafted cocktail has a house made detail to it and shiso tincture drops in the Herb Your Enthusiasm were that perfect addition that sent this over the top. It makes sense that Mo is an award winning bartender. TLDR - if I lived in Houston I'd be in trouble bc the drinks are that good and the people are that friendly, I'd never leave!

My friends and I were looking for a place to grab a drink after dinner. Since we weren't as familiar with the area, we browsed Yelp and decided to give Meo Bar a try. I didn't realize it was a speakeasy until I pulled into the parking lot. Parking was plentiful which is always a plus. We browsed some reviews to figure out where to go. Once inside the restaurant (Wokker HTX), we were still confused as there weren't any employees at the counter. A couple who was inside eating helped us out and eventually we made our way inside. The set up is essentially counter service. Order at the bar and they'll bring your drink to you. They do offer light bites, but we didn't order any food. The cocktails are very pretty and very good! I had the Meo G&T and Brenda's Violet Hour. I enjoyed both drinks. My friends had the Honey Bear and the Mui. My friend wanted to order one of the mocktails, but they ran out of ingredients for the drink, so they ended up comping one of her drinks. They have a good amount of tables and booths that can accommodate small and larger groups. The decor was cool and it was such a chill vibe.

Wow! Such a hidden gem! We absolutely loved all of the food. It is a speak easy and a cool atmosphere. The staff is very nice and attentive as well. The eggrolls are very good, they aren't greasy and the dipping sauce really finishes out the rolls perfectly The shaken beef is by far the best I've ever had. The spices are so good that you will want to eat every bit of the dish The spicy rice rolls were super addicting. They are incredible 10/10 would recommend the place!

Visited on a work trip on a random Tuesday night. Was able to chat up Mo, passionate dude dedicated to his craft. Catered experience, amazing drinks and food, atmosphere was great. Will definitely visit again if I'm back in Houston!

Mèo Bar, which stands for cat bar, is a speakeasy located in an unassuming Chinese restaurant named the Wokker. Once inside, you lift the cat portrait and ring the bell, and a bartender will open the door for you. The inside is a bit small but has many seats and a dj, as well. Their menu had a lot of Asian-inspired drinks. As a Viet person and pandan enthusiast, I had to get the Pandamonium, which consisted of rum, pandan, vanilla, and banana caramel syrup-clarified milk punch. I also got the Salty Kitty , which contained salted plum-Infused vodka, orange bourbon tincture, turbinado, lemon, and egg white, and a lychee cocktail. The Panamonium was my favorite. It was smooth and not too strong and tasted like a cucumber drink with a slight pandan smell and after taste. The Salty Kitty had foam on top made from the egg whites, and it was strong with a salty and sour taste. The lychee cocktail was so cute and came with a piece of lychee candy. However, I do wish that they put actual piece of lychee, too. I went on a Thursday, and it was pretty busy but not too crowded, and I think it's a great place to bring a group of friends. They also have a few mocktails and food, too! Overall, I really enjoyed their unique drink flavors and the experience.

You walk into Wokker, go slightly to the right and see a mural of waving cats. Lift up the kitty frame, press the button, a bartender will open the door for you. It's dimly lit inside but the aesthetic is great. Since it was Father's Day, it was pretty slow. But we had great drinks and good conversation. I observed the bartender organizing their in-house infused liquors for their drinks. They sous-vide the alcohol with various fruit or flavors to make their cocktails extra special. I got a tamarind margarita, it was strong, slightly spicy and tangy. I also tried the lychee martini, this was slightly sweet, subtle and easy to drink. We ordered garlic chicken bites and truffle soy dumplings from the HH menu and an order bourbon soy dumplings. They were very delicious. Seasoned well, served hot and I enjoyed them. I also had a Pandamonium. It had nice notes of vanilla and it was kinda floral. We also got more dumplings and drinks, kim chi butter dumplings and squid ink siu mai. These were just alright. The flavors weren't what I would prefer but it was ok. The bartender was great, she was attentive and friendly.

This is an absolutely spectacular little bar tucked away inside Wokker, a Latin-Asian fusion restaurant off Airline. It's a bit of an inconvenient location for us, but central enough that the majority of Houston won't have a problem with getting to it. I was pleasantly surprised to see ample parking, as Wokker is located at the end of a strip center. We managed to park right out front and walk right in. I hadn't told my wife why we were coming here, so she saw the cat murals and assumed that was the appeal-- of course, until I lifted the little framed cat and rang the bell. She was expecting music to play, not the door to open to a speakeasy style bar. Meo and Wokker are night and day. Wokker is bright and casual. Meo is much darker and upscale. There was a single bartender working the entire place, but sharing a kitchen with the public storefront meant there was ample service. We ordered the truffle soy dumplings, spicy rice rolls, and garlic sesame chicken bites off the Happy Hour menu. They were all dim sum style plates, but tasted spectacular. My wife opted for the tamarind margarita while I went with the whiskey highball. Neither was particularly impressive, but they rounded out our little trip nicely. We were among the first to arrive and the place never did get full while we were there, but the entire room seemed to hold maybe 40-50 people total. We'll definitely be back.

    Cute decor.

This place is the cutest, most unique bar I've been to in a while. So, I didn't know that this secret bar existed and it was where we were going. My husband was adamant that I'd love it. I walk inside. See the nice cat mural and think...okay he thinks I'm a crazy cat lady. Then the secret is shown to me and I'm inside a hidden bar! When the door popped open I almost yelped. It caught me off guard that much. The service inside was excellent. The bar itself was dimmed perfectly to create a cozy atmosphere. Our bartender was really nice and did a great job. She was super professional and patient with some entitled rich customers, so that spoke volumes for her and the establishment. The drinks and food were unique and fresh. The food had a Latin Asian infused menu and the drinks reflected that as well. We ordered a little bit of everything and were blown away. If you follow me, y'all know I love Maple Leaf, but man this place won me over. Definitely go there and try it out.

A squad of us journeyed here after the whiskey event in spring. We arrived in the restaurant, and walked up to the car on the wall. We clicked the button, but it didn't appear to do anything, so we clicked it again. Out came a gal who said we only needed to click once. Our bad! It might be good to have a something to let us know the bar signal was activated. Maybe the cats eyes glow red? That would be sweet. Walking in, the lighting is low. Great for mood setting, but it was a lovely crowd, so definitely not a romantic vibe on this particular night. The bar was jumping, the gals were doing work! Throughout the night, we ordered almost everything on the menu, and even got a free drink that was delivered that we hadn't ordered. We appreciated the good fortune. We ended up closing out the place. The drinks were all really good. So good that one of us even ordered a non-alcoholic drink by mistake, and it was still great. We didn't order food this time, but it looked good. The staff was very fast, and very nice to chat with. We had a great time and look forward to going back.

Meow! I mean if there was a place built for me, this is it. I've always been a big fan of speakeasies and it's been nice to see them sprout up around Houston recently. This one is located inside Wokker in The Heights. Not the best part of The Heights but well worth it. I stopped by on a Saturday evening. To get in, which is a lot of fun in itself, you pass by the food counter until you see a cat painting on the wall. From there, there's a cat painting that you lift up which will reveal a buzzer. Click the buzzer and they'll let you in. Once you enter, you'll experience the typically dimly-lit ambiance. It's relatively small bu the decor is cool and there's comfortable seating. They do have a nice menu of appetizers but we didn't eat on our visit. Instead, we focused on the list of eight or so craft cocktails. Meo Bar, beyond being cat-themed, focuses on Asian ingredients, so you'll see things like yuzu and lychee make an appearance on the menu. I tried three of their cocktails and they all delivered. They were creative, they tasted good, and they were elaborate. Out of the speakeasies I've been to in Houston, Meo Bar holds the number one spot for me.

Staff will open the door once you ring the bell

Booked a reservation and had to rush from another event to make it in time. We get there on time and we still wait 20 minutes in the lobby to be taken up. Love the concept and the door behind the bookshelf. However, just tell us what to do and step out the way. They stand right on top of you and it ruins the pictures/videos. We get inside and the vibe is great. Low lit and nice ambiance and decor. We go to the back and get seated. It was kind of awkward seating for four but it got the job done. Cool view out of the single window to the city below. Let's get to the drinks and service. Apparently, it was a newer menu and many of the drinks we were told about were no longer listed. The server was very strange and off-putting. She didn't do the best job describing the drinks at all and kept calling us "my babies". Four full grown adults being referred to as "babies" by a woman our age or younger was just weird and she did it a lot too. No one liked it. The drink I got was extremely overpriced and came in a tea cup- not my cup of tea. My friend asked for something creative using tequila and pineapple- she said "sure, we can make that. Do you prefer 1942 or clase azul?" I stepped in. I know you have more tequilas than your two most expensive options. Of course they did and she gave him more realistic options to mix with. Had I not stepped in, she would have taken advantage of him. None of us were impressed by the drinks, the prices or the service. None of the fun and fancy drinks were shown to us nor seen throughout the bar or other tables. No smoke, no big bubbles being popped, no treasure chest with a drink in lol This was an expensive let down. We do a ton of high end and expensive dinners and bars. This did not live up to the hype or price point. Extremely overrated and the strange service left a bad impression on all of us.

We were too stuffed to order dessert but they sent out a s'mores inspired sunday for my birthday which was both thoughtful and sublime. Overall we were very impressed with our meal. Food was delicious but veeeery indulgent. We will be back.

We were definitely older than 99.9% of everyone else in attendance but we stayed long enough for a yummy drink and couple of dances. This listening bar speakeasy is unique & artistic. Good vibes all around.

RE: This place is racist…read more Places like this are exactly why I have become ultra selective about partying in Houston. Its no longer enough to just go listen to a good DJ and buy drinks from the bar. These greedy club owners all want everything to be bottle service just to give you a sub par experience. I came here with 7 white people, I was the only black person in our group. We walked straight in no line and immediatly went to the bar where someone in the group ordered a round of drinks and someone else ordered a round of shots. We enjoyed the music a bit and someone else orders another round of drinks. My point is, we were spending money in this place. At some point someone figures out that the upstairs, which is sometimes roped off for private events was open and there was no one up there and the bar was open. Being a group of 8 we migrated there for more space and settled into one of the lounge areas with a coffee table and sofas. There was no bouncer standing at the stairs, no rope, nothing. We just walked straight in. Up here we ordered another round of drinks and another round of shots in 30 minutes. By this time other patrons noticed us move to this area so people from downstairs were now filing in and some had sat at the other lounge area adjacent to us (all black people). We were enjoying the music and drinks when a bouncer comes up and tells someone in my party that if we wanted to sit there we had to buy a bottle for $1000 or said we would have to leave the lounge area. Now since when does a standard bottle of liquor for a section cost $1000 in Houston?! This is not Miami, who do you think you're talking to? Moreover, why was our group singled out and asked to purchase a bottke but the other lounge area with all black patrons were left alone? I straight up asksed the bouncer if he was asking the other area to buy a $1000 bottle and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "I dont make the rules" whatever that means. To make matters worse one of my friends was actually about to buy a bottle until I stepped in. I was tipsy but not so tipsy that I would let my friend be strongarmed by there unfair business practices. Literally the collective amount of drinks in everyones hands upstairs didnt add up to $1000 but you want to single us out for one $1000 bottle? I'll never step foot in this place again and will be looking into filing a formal compaint with the appropraite governing body about what took place.

We went to the upstairs area which was dimly lit and played 80s/90s hip hop. We tried few drinks. Lion's mane tail, brown butter washed whisky, mushroom (which I found so unique). It was quite strong and was nice to switch up from the usual old fashions we try. Second drink was sharp turn. It was super fresh and crisp. Clear as water but I definitely felt it. Service was really good here too. I like that the bartenders all create their signature seasonal drinks so they genuinely are so well versed when describing the drink menu.

I thought that the catch 22 ( mocktail) would be too sweet or vinegar forward but it was tangy and light. My husband actually said he liked my mocktail more than he liked his cocktail which was good but a bit sweeter than he likes. The second mocktail I ordered was off the menu. I asked for something tropical and not too sweet. It was pretty good but not as complex as the catch 22. My husband liked the jaded merchant better than the dew drop. He also was sipping far too much of my mocktail which speaks volumes about how good it was. Love the moody vibes, drinks, and service. I've only visited three times but should make it one of the places we come to more often.
