Two friends and I went to this restaurantr for brunch and stayed for almost 2 hours. Our server, Lexi A, was wonderful and very patient, as she waited for us to make up our minds on what to order. She was pleasant, friendly, didn't rush and made helpful suggestions. Our experience was great, due in part, to Lexi A! Excellent food, chipotle citrus chicken wings, sweet potato fries and cheese cake along with Bailey's in my decaf coffee! Wonderful atmosphere and gracious waitperson!! We'll be back!! read more

While visiting from out of town, we visited Menotomy three times in a one-week period because their food was so good (especially their bread pudding). However, we consistently had POOR service, representing a failure by management of their human resources. On one occasion, we waited over an hour for our meal to come out, with waitstaff and management apologizing for a lack of kitchen staff. Yet, when we asked to proactively order a dessert, just to get it in the queue, the dessert (which included ice cream) came out before the entrees. When we pointed out how bizarre this was, the server quipped back, "well you ordered it, so we brought it!" They were cold and indignant the rest of the evening. At least the dessert was comped, but honestly, the restaurant should have restricted how many tables they sat people for if their kitchen staff could not keep up, or have been upfront about this. The other nights were not much better. While service was faster, our soft drinks were not refilled in a timely manner, and servers did not really do much, in general, to make us feel welcome. We dine out often, and the best restaurants are those where servers help each other out, monitor the tables consistently, and communicate proactively. They also seem happier and get along well -- probably because management fosters a better work environment. On top of that, Menotomy was closed Sunday, July 5, but had not indicated as such on their Google Maps page, so we took an Uber there only to have to go elsewhere... yet we still gave them three more changes. Again, better management would be aware of how to communicate across all the channels with which the restaurant has a presence. read more

Must not know how to use their phones, tried many times to call and actually ask what time their kitchen closes. On my way!

I had Sunday brunch with a couple of friends. I am compelled to write this because of Lexi, our wonderful server. She was so attentive; kind; patient and caring of our group that we all felt very taken care of and appreciative. She went out of her way to make sure I could have a raw vegetable plate to go with my wings, important in terms of some necessary dietary demands. She took great photos of us at out behest. We wanted to let her supervisors know of our gratitude but they were off so we promised her a great YELP review. She is new so Lexi, here it is: you are fantastic! read more

A charming American tavern with hearty plates and stellar hospitality. Food: A beautifully curated menu featuring hearty pub classics and inventive twists. Favorites include the fish & chips--crispy and generous--the inventive steak tips, pulled‑pork, cod cakes, and a standout grilled salmon burger. Brunch draws great reviews too, with dishes like cinnamon-stuffed French toast and creative brunch cocktails. Service: Universally praised as warm, attentive, and relaxed. Guests frequently mention staff like Alex providing excellent service, quick drink recommendations, and being responsive when weather changes threatened outdoor seating. Servers handle crowds and flow with ease, even when the restaurant is buzzing. Ambiance: Rustic‑comfortable with a classic tavern vibe. The big bar area, cozy dining space, fireplace for cold months, and outdoor patio in summer create a friendly, casual atmosphere. The noise level can climb when busy--some find it lively, others occasionally distracting. Bottom Line: Menotomy Grill & Tavern is a standout choice for classic American fare done well, served with genuine friendliness in a cozy, communal setting. Great for casual dinners, weekend brunches, outdoor seating lovers, and group visits. read more

Having eaten a Menotomy Grill and Tavern upon numerous visits to Arlington Ma. from out of town going back to Covid Days, I will never go back again. Truly the worst meal ever for my wife (fish and chips and roasted chicken for me) and in all of the many times we have dined there, suffice it to say that when you have to ask for a steak knife to be able to cut the roast chicken and the server anticipated my request with the knife already in hand, there is obviously a problem in the kitchen. Did not send both meals back as we had just arrived from 4 hour flight and where ravenous. Service was good, atmosphere is good, food sucks, NEVER AGAIN! I would rate them less than 1 if possible. Went here knowing that it wasn't going to blow me away so I played it safe and ordered a burger. Came out barely warm and basically raw in the middle. If you're a pub and you can't do a decent burger then..... The rest of the food at the table was the same....none of my family were happy. read more

portions appear smaller, VERY small oysters {up from $1 to $2} nice atmosphere and our server was very good

We were looking for a family friendly restaurant that would be open late after coming in from a late flight and this place was recommended to us. Service was very friendly the menu has a wide variety ranging from meat, seafood, pizzas and salads. I'd say it's a good place to bring picky eaters. My mom was happy with her burger and side salad. My husband really enjoyed his fish and chips. They kindly cooked green beans plain for my baby when I asked. She didn't really like them but she's still learning how to eat. She did however enjoy chewing on my grilled lemon. I went with the cod cakes, which came with a side of coleslaw and beans. The beans were a little sweet to my taste but good overall. The coleslaw reminds me of the type of dressing used on Hawaiian Mac salad. This was a good place to bring the family and I liked their outdoor patio seating. Food was average. read more

The food was amazing, but what made dinner even more spectacular was the service by Deanna. She was extremely personable, caring, and attentive, and everyone seemed to know her. So, when you go to Menotomy, you will be extremely lucky to have Deanna. She's the best part of Menotomy. read more

Beautiful old building; you really get the sense of history. Excellent service. The other two folks had the daily special of striped bass, and I loved it. I had the fish and chips, which had excessive dough--double beer-battered?-=not fully cooked nor crispy. Good fries and beer list. read more

Food was good, service was reasonable given the staff to customer ratio. But the prices were a little outrageous. A small cup of apple juice was $6.50. I recognize prices are high but this was more than a glass of Pepsi or a coffee.... Won't be coming back read more

I love the decor and ambiance of this Tavern! It's a very comfortable and enjoyable venue to enjoy your meal. The menu selections offer a nice variety of appetizers and meals. The food itself is quite delicious with decent portions. My experience with the staff over four or five visits has been exceptional, knowledgeable and professional each time. Parking: There is parking available on the shared lot. I would call it a huge lot, but I've never had a problem findings a spot. If necessary, you could also find on-street parking, should that be needed. read more

Food is reliably good, but what we really come for is the service. My elderly mother comes here frequently and they treat her like a queen. She's not demanding or anything, but the staff make her feel special and that means a lot. Food is reliably good, too. Don't forget that part read more

Met friends for dinner on Saturday night and there were some disappointing aspects. Decor is blah. I'd been here on a Sunday low traffic time once and enjoyed it. This time the 4 of us had to wait 20 minutes past our Rez time to be seated. Very crowded, maybe because of Kentucky Derby and Celtics game, there are several TVs. Our table was too small for 4 people. Drinks and appetizer came out quickly but it was 8:50pm before we got our entrees, we'd been seated at 7:20pm. Waitress was very nice and reasonably efficient. By that time we were tired and too hungry. Several food and drink items were unavailable which the waitress didn't know until she went to put our orders in. All the food was good though the fries weren't hot. Steak tips and salmon both cooked to perfection. I will not return on a Saturday night. read more

Nice sports bar American tavern feeling. Drink selection was amazing. We tried the steak special, salmon and burger and they were all good. Nothing extraordinary but worth driving a bit farther for. Service was slow. read more

Beware the blackboard special. There are no prices listed, so it was shocking to find out it was $65 - twice any other entree on the menu

I am afraid I did not eat here this evening. I have enjoyed the food many times before with up to 5 friends. Tonight I came in alone. As a neighbor it is an easy choice. Tonight I asked to sit at a table because, as a recovering Alcoholic, I am uncomfortable sitting at the bar. I was asked by the hostess to sit at the bar as there were 4 seats even at a minimum table. I asked if this were company policy and she said "Its what we ask". I walked out and wondered what the disabilities folks will be saying to this insistence. I will be asking them to inquire. Too bad management isn't smart, savvy or informed. With regrets. read more

We were staying at the hotel next door and came over to get a late dinner. The place was busy, but there is lots of seating and we were seated within a few minutes. The interior and ambiance were great, with a large bar area and huge table area. The open kitchen is always fun to watch. Our server was attentive and everything came out in good time. We had the fried pickle appetizer, the beet arugula salad, and chicken fingers with fries. All the food was really good. The pickles tasted either homemade or refrigerator pickles. The coating was maybe a little thick, but crispy. These were chips, served with a fantastic spicy remoulade. My picky daughter didn't love them, but I did. If I was hungrier and not dieting, I would have eaten them all! I loved the beet salad. Yellow and red beet chunks surrounded a fresh bed of arugula and greens with walnut sized perfectly fried goat cheese balls and macadamia nuts. It was dressed with a light balsamic vinaigrette. The dressing wasn't strong or oily and I either could have used a little more or maybe I should have used a dash of salt & pepper. The salad was great though and I really enjoyed it. The chicken fingers were 4 big pieces of crispy breast meat tenders with good fries. My daughter loved these. This is a great place in Arlington and if ever in the area again, I would definitely stop in! read more

6/23/25 Disappointing Experience at The Menotomy Grill & Tavern I was really looking forward to trying The Menotomy Grill & Tavern, but unfortunately, the food missed the mark on several levels. The Caesar salad was drenched in dressing--completely overpowered the greens and made it pretty unpleasant to eat. Less is more when it comes to dressing, and this was just way too heavy-handed. I ordered the burger medium rare, but what I got was barely cooked. The center was not just red--it was cold and raw. That's a major issue, both in terms of food safety and quality. The fish and chips were also a letdown. The fish came out in a perfectly uniform triangle shape, which makes it pretty clear it was a frozen product--not fresh, as the menu suggested. The batter was soft and rubbery, and the fish inside was dry and crumbly, not flaky at all. The atmosphere is nice and the staff were friendly, but unfortunately, the kitchen didn't deliver. For the price point and the reputation, I expected a lot more. read more

I was genuinely excited to come back to Menotomy Grill & Tavern -- it had been a while, and I remembered enjoying the food. Unfortunately, this visit left me really disappointed. From the moment I walked in, the experience felt off. The hostess greeted me with, "What do you need?" -- which was not only unwelcoming but kind of baffling. I'm here for a table... and dinner? That set the tone, and sadly, things didn't really improve. Our food took quite a while to come out, and in the meantime, my water sat empty for most of the meal. When the food finally arrived, both the salads and entrees had such small portions of protein that it felt like a joke -- especially for the price. I really wanted to enjoy this meal and hoped to make Menotomy a regular spot again, but this experience made me second-guess that. Not sure I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Absolutely terrible service tonight. Sat at the bar with my partner. Started fine. Ordered a couple of well made drinks from a pleasant bartender. It's a busy enough Saturday night so we didn't think it was too bad that we had to flag her down to order food. The food itself was fine. (The extremely overpriced special for the night was tasty but $43 for hangar steak and a couple potatoes and carrots?! If that price had been listed, we would have laughed). But that was it. No one asked us how our meals were. If we wanted a second drink. If we wanted water. No one came back at all. Multiple bartenders and not one checked on us. None even caught our stares. We tried several times to waive down our bartender to get a check. Then more than 20 minutes elapsed before we could waive her down again to pay. We've never had to work so hard to be ignored and unserved. On our way out, we let the hostess know we were quite upset. Were we offered a manager? No. She offered to jot our names on a slip of paper to tell the owner we were unhappy. Was it a packed house? No one was waiting for a table. Was it all new staff? They seemed to know the drinks without looking. What a crappy experience for a local restaurant. No service at all and ripped off by the specials. I will never give them another penny. read more

Super cozy place. The inside is very charming. I can see snuggling in here when it's cold outside. The menu was very limited. Not many choices. I love shrimp and grits and the ones here were only ok. First of all, I'd like to clarify that we enjoyed our visit here. Our food was tasty and the portions were as expected. The 3 star review is based on the limited menu selections available to the customer. Even after adding in a couple of specials and you're still very limited. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful. Attitude was great and service was good from him. He was quite busy and still found time to be personable with the guests. A few other items that I will point out that you should keep in mind before visiting: - The hostesses seemed more interested in speaking to themselves than the guests. They seemed lost in their own world. - Finally, my old-fashioned was very weak. Honestly, it was probably the weakest drink I have gotten in years. read more

This place was pretty damn good. I honestly wasn't expecting much. For some reason, I don't know why. We were three people and we're seated today promptly. That kind of scared me at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. But, I figured I'd still give it a chance. We were seated in a nice table, near the kitchen which is an open concept. I love watching people cook like that. So that was a plus for me. Our waiter was stellar. I wish I knew what his name was because he was awesome but he had this great deep voice meant for television or radio. we ended up having the fried pickles, the fried homemade potato chips. Both were really good. The pickles weren't dill, they were half sour and I liked that. I had a burger,My cohorts in crime had the fish and chips, which was massive, and the pulled pork sandwich. Both were able portions and looked really yummy. My burger? Done to perfection and super juicy. Everything on it was great, I have to be honest though, the tomato jam? I could've used a little bit more. And I really liked the option of sweet potato fries as well. Downside? I don't like the fact that I had to order the side and it didn't automatically come with it. It makes the price kind of deceiving. And the other? The ladies bathroom was a mess. There was toilet paper all over the place, and the sink was full of bubbles and stuff and really needed to be cleaned. I'll still be back. read more

Food is good but not cool to be pressure by hostess to tip more on takeout. On principle that is a turnoff.

What a lovely little tavern! My wife, daughter, and I had the perfect "welcome to Boston" dinner here this evening. The Lobster Cod chowder and New England cod cakes were especially delicious, and our almost 2 year old daughter loved her pizza. The hostess and our server Megan were both incredibly sweet to her and gave her a coloring sheet and crackers to snack on, which we really appreciated. Thanks so much for the great service and overall experience. We'll definitely be back! read more
