Overdue review: I usually get the burger and fries at Mendys. Burger is usually just ok and same with the fries nothing special. It all depends on the day and the cook. Skip the eggroll. They used to be good. Now their greasy. I always eat at the restaurant and haven't experienced delivery issues. Service for me has been fine no problems. Ambiance is fine nothing great nothing bad. Ate there last week when I was on a day trip to NY. Great service, friendly staff, and fun atmosphere. When I saw the menu I figured I was in a *real* Jewish restaurant. It offered both traditional Ashkenazi dishes, plus everyone's favorite: Chinese food. Menu was in English on one side and Hebrew on the other. My only complaint: they were out of knishes when I was there, but that's minor. Highly recommended if you're in Crown Heights--and worth the trip if you're not. read more

A fine place to eat-- I eat there all the time. The one piece of feedback I would give is that the rye bread they use is not real Jewish Rye bread according to a few second opinions. It is, I think, mass-produced white bread made from highly processed wheat, with maybe a touch of rye flour -- but not much. No caraway seeds. No faintly tangy touch of sourdough. Not to mention that they don't have the option of marbled rye. They should find a quality vendor of Jewish rye bread, after which they will be competitive with all the classic long-gone New York Delis. read more

Mendy's is great! Came in needing a quick bite and this was satisfactory. I went late, around 9, and it wasn't very busy. It's informal, you go up to the counter and place the order, but the atmosphere is warm and clean. I like that everything is customizable on sandwiches, burgers, etc. I got the roast beef sandwich and it was excellent. You can get it rare or grilled a bit for warm medium-well. I chose the latter and it was delicious. Not too greasy, not too dry. This is definitely not a fancy date spot but it is perfect for grabbing a quick casual bite with friends or family. Their order form is very 1995, and when it malfunctioned and made a "$5" tip into "$55" they ignored calls and emails attempting to correct it. I had to make an adjustment claim with my bank, which they just reversed a month later, so they're specifically looking at the bill and knowing full well that (especially with their low-tech website) a "55" on a takeout order for soup and egg rolls is likely a typo. I waited for a few minutes, watching the un-busy staff just hanging out while the counter person talked. For a service business, this was not. On a cold, snowy morning, a young woman woke up feeling a little sickies. What more could she want than some of her ima's (mother in hebrew) chicken soup. Since that wasn't possible, because ima is aaaalllll the way in a far away land called New Jersey, Mendy's was the next best option. Apparently I was out of the delivery range, so the owner drove out my delivery on his own. Tried to give him an extra tip but he refused. Soup hit the spot. So did my schnitzel and knish. This is a late review, for Mendy's Catering. Nati catered all the food for our pre-Covid (B"H) wedding in February 2020 on an upper floor in the building Mendy's is in, the museum. Everything looked beautiful, the food was very delicious, and there was plenty to eat. Doing all this was Nati with a big smile, calming our nerves and making our guests so happy! The staff was also very attentive. Nati saved some food for us to eat at the end. And on top of all this, everything at a very reasonable price. I am an older bride with no wedding experience and Nati made the reception the easiest part of the planning, which i understand is no small feat. I guess we didn't get everything written in detail before the event, we had to trust a little -- though I cannot say enough good things about the experience. No we are not related and we didn't even know Nati before, no one is paying me for this glowing review :) . We were just so happy about everything and could not have asked for more. I am not usually one to write negative reviews, but this establishment offered the single worst dining experience in my two years of living in Brooklyn. Without a doubt, I will never spend a penny at Mendy's again. I placed an order at 5:55 on a Monday evening. My food consisted of two orders of soup, a turkey burger, and an order of french fries. A modest order, but certainly food that needs to be served hot. The estimated time to delivery was between 35-40 minutes. After 1 hour, I called the restaurant to inquire as to the delay. I was told that the driver had left and would be arriving momentarily. After an additional 40 minutes, the driver had still not delivered my food. I tried to call the restaurant back---no less than seven or eight times before someone finally picked up the line. I explained that my order had not yet arrived and that I would like to cancel the order for a refund (it had now been a full two hours since placing the order). The manager told me that he could not refund the order and that I should expect the driver to deliver the food---which, after two hours---would be undoubtedly cold and inedible. The manager promptly hung up the phone on me, offering no apology, no coupons, and surprise surprise, no refund. Do yourselves a favor. Don't order from Mendy's if you'd like your food in a timely manner or a consumer experience wherein you're not ignored or insulted. read more

Mendy's deli is awesome for several reasons. But before I'll go ahead and elaborate and explain why I think they are amazing, I will tell you what they are not: 1. Mendy's is certainly not a a quiet place (avoid going there for first dates(-:) 2. By any means, this place is not fancy 3. There is no waiters and you order at the cashier and pick your food when your number is called. Now! For the fun part! I will tell you exactly why I love this place Let's start with such a large menu! Anyone can find something that they like! They are so reasonably priced, you never feel that you exploit their central location and lack of competition (just in front of 770). The place is literally huge! So there is not so much of a space issue (I've shared a table with a strange before). The workers are super nice and attentive, even when the place is packed they always treat you with patience (a huge plus in my opinion) And obviously, the main reason that their food is just delicious and the portions are really generous! I ordered a beef Lo main and after eating half of the plate I went into a food coma and gave my hubby the left overs! Everything seems delicious and fresh and clean .. So, overall! If you found your self craving anything from a burger, sushi, soup, Chinese foods, shnitzel, rice or pasta, or pretty much everything you can imagine, do not hesitate and go there! Your enjoyment is guaranteed! You will certainly enjoy a delicious meal! Again, by any means this place is not posh, fancy, cool, well decorated, ect'.. ! Never been so disappointed in a restaurant since I moved to NY. I'm home sick today and decided to order 2 chicken noodle soups and an Israeli salad (overpriced at $15, so I expected something decent) from this place at a roommate's suggestion. An hour later, it arrives and it's the saddest excuse for food I have ever seen. The soups were nothing but noodles in a salty, nasty-tasting broth, and the "Israeli" salad was nothing but cucumbers and tomatoes with no salt, pepper, lemon, etc. and I'd like to re-emphasize that the soup broth tasted purely like MSG. No chicken and no vegetables. My roommate and I call them back and ask for a refund, and they argue with us! The man on the phone tells us "chicken noodle soup" doesn't have to have vegetables in it because it's "not in the name." What? Did you make this without vegetables? It sure tastes like it. And he had no explanation for why there was no chicken, either. Pretty sure that's in the name "CHICKEN noodle soup." After arguing, they finally refunded ONE soup. Never encountered such a cheap, unprofessional place before. My roommate and I will never order from them again. $10 in the trash, no more in the food budget for today, and I don't have soup. EDIT: They have not even refunded me the one soup they said they would. Incredible. Also, I see another review here stating that the owners are "not Americans" so they shouldn't be held to the same customer service standards and "care what you think." In all honestly, they probably opened this restaurant in America and not Israel because real Israelis would not pay for this disgusting food. read more

My sister and I had the most bizarre experience eating at Mendy's Brooklyn location in the Jewish Children's Museum. We ordered and paid for two orders of one of the specials listed by the register - soup and sandwich -but when our order came we were given soup with only half a sandwich each. I asked the young Israeli man who took our order where the rest of our sandwiches were, and pointed out the two part regular-sized sandwich that had just been served to the other customer and he said "You got a special. You only get half a sandwich. You know that I am right and you are wrong." I laughed at how ludicrous his remark was since a special usually gets you a better value and clearly soup is not worth more than half a kosher meat sandwich (I think it was roast beef) and I also pointed out that the specials listed by the register said "soup and sandwich", NOT "soup and half a sandwich," but he would not give us what was advertised. When we finished our meal, I asked to speak to the manager, and another young man who was less abrasive than the first one, whose name was Hanoch also refused to give us what was clearly advertised and what we expected to receive for our money. So I basically called them on their actions and said they were crooks. To add insolence to everything that had already transpired, the first guy then proceeded to call after me "take off your yarmulke - you are not Jewish - you are a thief. Get out of here." I give Israelis a lot of extra respect for being on the front lines in fighting for Jewish survival, and I was not going to stand and argue - but this guy was WAY W A A A Y out of line with his remarks and I would encourage decent honest self-respecting people to stay away from Mendy's! read more

We live down the street and order here occasionally. We love the burgers, middle eastern combo platter, shwaffle and corned beef sandwich to name a few things. I usually ask if they have everything in the regular order as they can run out of stuff sometimes. When I ask for a side of tahini they send like 5, which is great bc I love tahini! The people running it are not Americans so don't expect your toes to be kissed bc they're not American, haha. Delivery takes about 30 minutes standard but I always make sure of the timing. This is not the kind of restaurant where they care what you think. It's like your Jewish mothers kitchen. She has what she has, she's happy if you're satisfied but isn't making herself crazy trying to please you. The food is reliably good in my opinion. Only 4 stars bc, hey, it's just not a five star kind of place. I've been there for events and found them well catered, organized and super delicious. read more
