Okay you asked for a review. It would be a five star if the heater heated. The brand and model is Chimney Free 47" curved glass entertainment/fireplace on sale at $349. 25MM1895. The Pekin, Illinois Menards is now our home store, exactly 3.0 miles from home. Our older son stopped with us at the Peoria Menards to check out cheap electric fireplaces. On line I must have checked 1000 other store ads. In checking other store reviews I realized "cheap" really does seem cheap! Lots of bad reviews at other stores on various electric fireplaces. Most seemed to be bad packaging and handling. With the help of a Peoria employee were were able to check out a $300 electric fireplace/entertainment center. I decided to check out my hometown store in case I wanted to attempt hauling one home in my Chevy Impala. I'm used to a truck and hauled everything myself. Our son was busy and we wanted the fireplace before the weather turned nasty and cold. I calculated that it might fit in the back seat of a late model Chevy Impala. I had inches to spare in the back seat. My original plan was to get the darker wood color to match our grandfather clock. A color only one store out of many had, 75 miles away near Decatur. I almost called and drove down there. Our daughter suggested the walnut color. I checked online and the Pekin store had three plus a walnut demo. The walnut color matches our old woodwork and other furniture perfectly! Add a pair of brass knobs and it will look like it was made for our living room. At the Pekin store we were directed to one of the most helpful store employees I've ever met! With a small 1000 sq ft upstairs and rather small rooms I decided on a 1000sq ft heater fireplace with all of the extra fancy flame choices, only another $50. We've lived in Florida 23 years. We need more heat! The salesman explained everything and assured us they had three walnut fireplaces in back like it showed on line. I could just prepay and drive around to the shipping dock. Noticing my wife and I can't get around well, he said he'd bring the large box up front, we could pay up front, and he'd get help loading it in my Impala right where it sat. I quickly explained I'm parked right up front but I'm not so sure that large box will fit in the back seat. With a helper and luck, they were able to lift, slide, and push the electric fireplace box into the backseat. This took more time and effort than expected yet those two employees smiled and got 'er done very carefully! About the unit. Those young Chinese kids that built and packed everything had every hole, screw, and piece perfectly wrapped and packed tight in the large padded cardboard box. I have no idea how long it took to assemble because I did it in steps, gluing all pegs with Gorilla Glue. The simple instructions made everything easy and the finished product is something to be proud of. Of course, there just has to be something negative. As a heater it's as useful as a farmer match in a snow storm. Very little heat, and as others wrote, the fan is noisy but bearable. Still, we are very happy with it as a piece of furniture with life like flames. The wall mounted 42" wide TV (46") looks great floating above it. read more

Best Menards ever, I've remodeled 2 houses in the past 4 years so I've made hundreds, maybe thousands of trips here. The lumberyard is always organized and if you ever need help finding or loading something they are always there. The employees inside are always helpful. Still remodeling my second home and boy do I hope it's the last. So I will be back. read more

The returns process is sketchy at this Menards. I've never had a problem returning anything at any other Menards or hardware store for that matter (I was visiting out of town). I had several obviously not used items from a job and was simply trying to return my overstock. The cashier was going through my returns and labeled items "used" that hadn't had a scratch on them. Needless to say I was successful returning these items at another location when I got home. So why was this cashier and her management staff so stingy?! I wouldn't buy anything here knowing that there was a possibility that it would need to be returned. What a hassle!!! read more

Decent selection, appropriate prices. Don't count on staff asking if you need help. If approached, they are always helpful, but customer service and friendliness does not seem to be a strong point. While they do have a great selection of products, Your gonna be very disappointed when you try to return an item that's under $12.00 OR ANY OTHER PRODUCT, without a receipt. Apparently, they'd rather have a distraught, pissed off customer walking through their stores trying to spend there ridiculous gift card than just return the $11.00. I used to own my mom businesses and Menards is the most pathetic hardware store I've seen my entire life it takes me half an hour to find somebody to help me to find something in the store or to ask a question there is sociats are very and knowledgeable they don't have any training at all they sell things in there like I wanted to buy Himalayan salt and they had no Grinders to grind up the salt if it wasn't for the only hardware store in town I would not go there I go to 14th Street Hardware or go to Big R's or I go to Tractor Supply if they had a Lowe's or Home Depot your store would not exist it is so pathetic that it is on believable and you always got to wait in line and it's very impression whoever is the manager there does not know what he's doing at all read more

Helpful staff, large store with great variety

Just purchased an American Standard toilet from Menards. I bought the Titan model, $239 + sales tax. I told the salesman that I needed a toilet that would flush with force as it is 110' to the sewer outlet and I do not want a tiny trickle of water going into the sewer as that will cause the line to eventually become clogged. I was assured that the 4" outlet would do the job. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. There is less than a quart of water in the toilet bowl, meaning that the rest of the inside surface of this elongated bowl will simply be splattered with waste and will require continuous cleaning with a bowl . . . and this is after adjusting for the maximum amount of water in the holding tank. The surface area of the water into which solid waste must fall to avoid splattering and getting stuck on the side of the toilet is about 5" in diameter. When I contacted the store, I was told that the toilet "only needs enough water in the bowl to keep sewer gas from escaping" and that if that outlet was covered, then the toilet "is working the way it should." THEN, I was told that since I had taken the toilet out of the box and installed it, I would not be able to return it for a refund. Rather, Menards has a "conflict resolution" system and that I could "fill out the paperwork and see what happens." But since a refund is not possible and since it is highly unlikely Menards will hire a plumber to come check this out, I know their "conflict resolution" process is nothing more than a way to make people with complaints to just give up. This is a huge disappointment. Over the past 5 years, we have spent approximately $10,000 at the Menards in Pekin, Illinois. When we purchased the toilet, we spent a total of $1,100 on the toilet and other things we needed to buy for our home. But I can tell you this much, the rest of the stuff I bought there today has not been opened. It will all be returned . . . and Menards will never again see a single cent being spent in their stores by this family. Honestly, Menards is quite short-sighted for having such a rigid return policy. I explained what I needed and was assured that the product would do the job. When there is an obvious problem with an item, they apparently have no interest in even considering that the product is defective, no interest in simply giving store credit for a defective product . . . and, obviously, no interest in retaining customers who have, in the past, been very loyal to their brand. Truthfully, ALL the blame does not fall at the feet of Menards. The government bureaucrats who are so concerned about saving water have required modifications that are making things like toilets work less well than in the past . . . DUMB, to say the least as there is no preventing a person from flushing their toilets as many times as they need to make sure their lines are not clogged because of the defective "thinking" of people who have nothing better to do with their time than to enforce their will on everyone else. read more
