The personnel (employees and managers) could use some needed training. After finding what I wanted on the website of Menards we were in Rolla MO and I stopped by the Menards store. I was received cordially and informed very competently about the storage shed I wanted. Couldn't place the order because we live in the Chicago area so we went to Menards on Morton Grove for the order. The salesperson was fresh, not very helpful and we later found out sloppy in her work - our phone number (the main item for retrieval) was entered wrong. The shed didn't arrive when it was supposed to and there was no one to talk to. Everyone was rude and unpleasant on the phone. Today the shed was delivered and it's wrongly marked - after 2 hours of continuous phone call, the delivery person and one manager claim it's the right product. Sure hope it is. We are the customers, we deserve some information given in a polite and constructive way. We are also working people and do not have hours to spend on the phone to make sure we are getting what we ordered. First and last time with Menards. Next time it will be Home Depot or Loews. I do not need the hassle - no one does read more

Why on a Wednesday morning do I have to wait 20 minutes to purchase a can of paint, and have it mixed properly? What else do they have to do? They certainly are not customer service driven. The sales person was very snotty when I asked for a certain brand, and was told that even though it was a different name on the can, it was the brand I was looking for. I really like this store and tend to prefer it to Lowe's and Home Depot when shopping for home improvement items. The staff is usually a bit more knowledgeable than the nearby stores of the other two chains and prices are typically lower than both. I am not a contractor, but from appearance I'd say it's a bit weaker than Home Depot in construction supplies. A little stonger in other areas. It sells more peripheral items than the other two chains but does not have as large a plant selection. Also more home items which are not directly related to home improvement tasks, e. g., candles, picture frames, cleaning supplies, etc. As other reviewers mentioned it is very large but I have not found it to be intimidating. read more

I was going to rate this one a one star but one bad apple shouldn't ruin it for the rest. The guy that works in lighting the young heavy set one is just plain rude. No people skills what's so ever. If I knew what I was looking for I wouldn't have bothered you. However, a simple question about a product shouldn't make you upset and make me feel sorry that I asked. You chose to work there you filled out the application it was your choice not mine. So grow up and do your job. Because of you I now drive up the street to the home depot. I have never been treated so rude by a store employee as I was today by Lola (front desk) at Menards. I was charged a different price for the same item, when I tried to show her, she wouldn't even look at the item, instead I got a condescending attitude. I can spend my money anywhere, I don't need to take crap from her. I've spent thousands at that store, I'm in there at least once a week, but I won't go back. Another really big hardware store in my area. It is so big that it can be hard to get around. I think teh employees don't really know it that well too because if you ask them they usually will point you to the wrong direction. I prefer smaller stores where the customer servce is better. read more

Went to buy a fireplace,paid for it at the front,they sent us back to receiving,door # 9,they took our invoice,send us in totally wrong direction,drove between their warehouses for 45 min,barely made it back,and there was fireplace sitting on the floor,when i asked why would you send us trough your warehouses,their department manager told us : Pick your fireplace,and get the fuck out of here. I can't believe that. You're not allowed to rise your tone after 45 min driving trough warehouses,which is not my job. If i'm sent at the receiving dock,that's where fireplace should be,if you brought it there at first place,why would you sent me someplace else?? The prices are very reasonable, and most of the staff is helpful. There are a few bad apples everywhere, but at least they have Melanie. She's rather new there, but extremely helpful and caring. My advice to management is to thank Melanie every day for choosing to work there. read more

Menards almost always has the best deals between themselves and the other two big box stores (Home Depot, Lowes). Their garden lighting section is more expansive and the regular prices are cheaper than sale prices elsewhere. read more

Lesley at the customer service counter has a really bad!!! Attitude she doesnt belong in customer service at all. I oeft the reciept on the counter while i went to get another item to replace the item i bought which was broken i come back and theres no receipt so she tells me u didnt give me a reciept which i clearly did. went to return 2 defective battery operated security lights. worst experience ever . i got there at 815 pm on 12.17.2019, talked to a foreign lady , who said that i brought the wrong lights, then i talked to what seemed like the return manager, treated me like a thief and a scam artist. had to go to the receipt machine to prove i bought them there. i wanted to talk to the district manager , but they refused to give me their names. after a half hour of arguing i finally got a store credit,, after 25 years , i will not go back,,, folks you can do better at walmart or home depot.. real bad experience, had to give them my drivers license too,, i am not a scammer ,,i bought the lights there, i was treated bad .. time to close the store down read more

Today when me and my wife were shopping at this store I moved one display lamp by mistake and was not able to put it back in its original place. My wife apologized to an employee whose name was Rob and asked him if he could assist me in putting it back. Instead of providing adequate customer service the employee by the name of Rob said with hostile attitude "why did you have to touch it" and asked us to leave the store!!! Me and my wife were stunned! We looked at each other and It took us a second to realize what he just said. I mean at one of the major stores like Menards to have such a hostile employee it's absurd! Horrible Customer Service. Went in to buy a new door and screen door. Knew what we wanted. No one at door/window desk. Asked for help. Guy said he doesn't work in that dept but would find someone. We bought a very nice patio furniture set this memorial day (selection and pricing was far superior to the other big improvement stores), and were very happy with the help and service we received selecting and stowing the bulky packages in our van. Where Menards fantastic service really impressed us, however, was in the care we received when, after having used the set for a couple of days the glass table top unexpectedly shattered. We did not drop anything on it and couldn't explain to ourselves how this could have happened. Menards managers Steve E. and Steve M. cut through the red tape we expected in replacing the table. We had another one on our patio that same afternoon, without the third degree and bureaucratic procedures! The folks at Menards really backed up their motto of "dedicated to quality and service" and made us even more loyal customers. Great store, great service, great shopping experience! read more

Bought a butcher block counter top on line with next day delivery. Received an email later next day that top was delivered. Went into store the next day to find out where the top was and they could only verify that it was delivered. Top was never delivered it turns out and it was brought back to the store because nobody was home according to delivery company. Long story short I would have to pay another 25$ or pick it up myself. I canceled the order ate the $25 and will never shop there again after 20 years as a costumer, I'll have to travel extra mile to Home Depot. I suggest all to do the same. read more

This place has the ruddiest staff I have seen. I went there to buy a Chandelier. I was planning to spend $200 there. I went to the lighting section this sunday around 6PM. A tall white guy and a blonde white lady were there. They were very unhelpful and rude. I heard them saying to each other that I was asking too many questions. I needed help with bulbs and I heard the tall white guy complain to a third person that I was asking the same questions... These people were bad mouthing me in front of me !!! I am not sure if they were like this to me because I am non-white or they are like this to everyone. I was very angry at there customer service and I decided not to buy anything from there even though it is a few dollars cheaper then Home Depot. I won't be shopping there again. read more

How fortunate for me to find the perfect length Queen size bed frame and use my Menard's Bucks to pay for the whole thing. Menard's was the only retailer I could find that sells a Queen size bed frame longer than 71". Hollywood Holly-Matic Queen Size Bed Frame is 76" long, which fits my box spring much better, no worries about tipping. I searched for a long time. Most retailers only offer 71" long side rails. That's way too short for a queen. Their excuse about making them shorter so you don't bump your leg is silly. Hollywood Holly Matic does not protrude past the end of the bed. The price was much more reasonable than the other retailers. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble. There are no screws! The whole frame is heavy duty and well designed and constructed. I also like the one center rail that runs vertically. I can easily fit all my storage stuff under the bed. This is a total Winner! It was a special order and well worth the wait. I am writing because of a terrible shopping experience that my husband and I had at the Menard's location in Morton Grove, Illinois on Sunday, July 6, 2014. I wish I could give zero stars! My husband and I were there to purchase bifold closet doors for our bathroom. This was our very first time at any Menards location and we were only there because we found bifold doors that we wanted to purchase on the Menards website. We were in the check-out lane when we noticed that was some damage to the bifold doors that we were about to purchase. We wanted to request a discount because of the damage and because these were the last bifold doors of that particular size and design, in the store. We informed the cashier, who went on to notify another associate, associate #1. Associate #1 informed us that somebody from milling would be here shortly to examine the bifold doors. We waited about 10 minutes in the check-out lane as other customers passed us, however nobody from milling arrived. So I informed associate #1 again to please page milling, she did so and then she informed us that somebody from milling would be here in "four minutes". We kept waiting however nobody from milling showed up. During this time, an assistant manager walked right past us, and did not greet us or ask us if we needed any help, despite the fact that we were standing at the check-out lane as other customers were being assisted. The assistant manager proceeded to sit down at the customer service desk which was 10 feet from our check-out lane (lane 7). At the time, I did not know the identity of the assistant manager. When I went to speak with associate #1 for the third time, she was standing near the assistant manager at the customer service desk. After this third request, associate #1 spoke directly with the assistant manager and then associate #1 told us that the assistant manager had approved a discount of $5 for the bifold door. The assistant manager never introduced himself or greeted us, despite my standing 3 feet away from him. Also, at this point, NOBODY had inspected the bifold doors for damage, including the assistant manager, and the associate from milling still hadn't arrived. If nobody needed to inspect the bifold doors for damage, why were we asked to wait for over 20 minutes in the check-out lane waiting for an associate from milling? I spoke with the assistant manager about this and his reply was that he approved the $5 discount because he had "overheard" the approval of a $5 discount by milling over his walkie talkie. As the store assistant manager, he was not willing to see why we were upset and offended by being neglected and kept waiting without follow-up by staff at the store. He claimed that he didn't see us waiting in lane 7 and also didn't know that we were still waiting for the associate from milling, even though associate #2, who was behind the customer service desk with the assistant manager, came over near us twice but only spoke with the cashier and asked what the problem was, before I asked her who she was and if she can help, to which she said "no" and walked away briskly. I tried to explain to the assistant manager about the mismanagement of the situation with regards to being told to wait in the check-out lane for an associate from milling to come and inspect the bifold door, however he was extremely disrespectful and refused to listen to what we were saying. He never apologized for our wait or the mix-up, and in the end he told us to "just leave" and that "this conversation is over". I do not feel that this was appropriate behaviour on the part of an assistant manager to a store customer. In addition, throughout all this time, the associate from milling never showed up. We left the store very shocked and saddened by the way we were treated and very disappointed at the way in which our situation was handled. read more

I was in Wilmette, Illinois to help my son rehab a house that he is going to live in. We were hoping to find a "go-to" hardware / box-store. So, we had heard Menard's was good. We were really disappointed. Staff was mildly helpful. Vaguely pointed toward the items I asked about. The staff mostly stands at little kiosks around the store and waits for the customer to approach them. We bought several toilet seats for a home we are renovating. While we knew they were low cost they turned out to be Prototypical Cheap Chinese made garbage. Returned all to the store. It is OK to sell a low end product, but at least make it so that it works when you unwrap it and will last a few days. These things were made so badly they fell apart as we were installing them. The only reason they get a two instead of a one is they did take all the seats back without batting an eye lash. That is good, but we had to waste so much time running back and forth to the store that is was upsetting. Not to mention that driving anywhere in Chicago is no easy task so one wants to avoid return trips. The other reason they got two stars instead of one is that the parking for Chicago is laudable. read more

We understand that the store is busy, but do not take customers' money and show no reponsibility for customers' care just because of the store is busy. We are building a restaurant in the area and have needed to make multiple trips to big box hardware stores. I have nothing but great experiences with Menards not only Morton Grove but all the others I have traveled to. I pass others hardware stores and go there. When the MG store was out of inventory they found what I needed in other stores and called ahead. Everybody I had contact with either at the front desk or in the lumber yards all were courteous and kind and very informative to help me complete tasks I needed to do. There is something being done right with their employees, there is always a greeting and a desire to help you. The have played a major roll in the reconstruction of our restaurant. There prices are competitive and even better sale prices. Great team!! read more

It is totally NOT RESPECTFUL to put 'express line 6 items or less' sign and then make a customer wait in line after someone who puts 20 items for checkout. It happened to me two days in a row. I value my time and want it to be respected. The customer service ( Jasmine?) did NOTHING about it. Lame explanation that they can't tell the customers anything doesn't help at all. Neither did another formula put in her mouth that it's the chain's policy to put signs like that. Take it down or have someone who makes sure you don't waste someone's time. read more

We were shopping there a couple of weeks ago and a cleaning product spilled on our clothes. We told the manager and escalated to another manager. They stated there was nothing they could do. Not pay for cleaning, not a reimbursement for the clothes, nothing. We've spent a ton of money at Menards over the years. I am learning that-seemingly-customer loyalty has no bearing on customer service. For the fee of cleaning some clothes, Menards sacrificed thousands and thousands of dollars of repeat annual home improvement supply and product purchases. I don't think many retailers / restaurateurs understand what they do to their repeat business from loyal customers when these sorts of one-off things happen. I can't say we'll never go to Menards again, but I will say we will always check at Lowes and Home Depot first. read more

Then while walking to the register I asked some rude ass worker names Steve that works by the hand tool department where I can find an item and I got the biggest attitude like he hated his job and was going to die because I asked him a simple question. I paid last weekend for 15 boxes of tiles and went last night to pick them up. My pick-up ticket was passed to four different workers and the guy named Conway and Gary were especially useless! I don't know how the management trains these people but they like to just hang around and waste customer's time. 2 hours later after my arrival to the dock, one man actually went to get a fork-lift and bring the tiles to my car.
