It's overwhelming how much choice there is. Donna who works there is extremely helpful. My only frustration is upon ordering they can't tell you when the paper will arrive. Today…read moreI went to return a few products that my elderly parents had and had not opened/used that they asked me. The manager Bill came over and in front of three young cashiers that he was training said, "what are you trying to do, empty out someone's garage." Without the cashier having even finished scanning the items to see if they could be returned he had made his decision/judgement. I find his comment disinhibited, judgemental, and quite unprofessional. In a day where people can more easily shop from amazon or home depot down the street; the ones that continue to come to your store out of loyalty you lose with nasty managers such as Bill.

We have been slowly giving our 100+ year-old home a facelift for the past 3 years, and I could not…read morehave done it without Linda at JC Licht in Northbrook. She was the biggest help to me when it came to picking out wallpaper and paint colors. She has been so patient throughout the entire process, and her knowledge when it comes to paint colors and wallpaper is off the charts! She would have me send pictures of the room, and even just from a photo would be able to tell me what would work. Sure enough her instincts were spot on every time...I'd bring home what she suggested to see in the room and she was always right! She takes all factors into account, and makes sure that she has a very good grasp on what is going on in a room (furniture, decor, light, adjacent rooms, etc) before suggesting colors. The process of picking out wallpaper proved to be harder than anticipated, as many of my selections were either discontinued or the minimums were way beyond what I needed for bathrooms and a mudroom. Linda always had back-up suggestions for me of similar papers that would work with price points that were always within my budget. She also helped us pick out our window treatments for a few rooms, and once again really knew how to tie it all together. If you need guidance when it comes to paint colors, wallpaper and window treatments you MUST go see Linda. Her help was invaluable to me and to the many others who I have referred to her. I have to also mention that everyone else who works at this JC LIcht is equally as kind, helpful and accommodating.

Just returning two things that turned out to be the wrong size for my DYI project involved me being told to walk to the back of the store to wait on someone to get and fill out a paper "return" form from the service desk. I then had to bring that form back up to the front for that guy to process. But it was filled out wrong, so I was sent back to the second guy to get the products themselves so the paper form could be corrected back at the front by the first guy. This rigamarole on top of not having friendly customer service dampened my enthusiasm for supporting a little place that makes you feel you've stepped back in time. I left without getting the correct size items for my project because I was then running late. Neither employee asked me if I needed something else instead. If you're not going to modernize your return processes, at least retain the helpful, friendly attitude.
