Oh Menards, how I love thee. I want to craft a poem in your honor, ok maybe just a haiku. Giant box of Joy Filled with wonder and whimsy I paint way too much! I drive over most weekends to just pick up a bag or two of gardening soil or some pavers or bags of grass seed...but, I somehow end up spending $150 on fan gardening materials, seedlings, soil, seeds, and so much paint! I've painted my whole house, including the basement and outdoor area, too! When I'm having a tough day, a visit to the Menards on North Avenue is so comforting. Especially if it's one of their "11% back mail in rebate" days or if I have rebate cash to spend!! Love the staff here, too. read more

Never trust its data. I found one product that there were 2 in the stock. However, I could not find any in the store. When I showed the data from their website, 3 of their employees, 2 were in customer service, admitted the data, but no product was avilable. When I asked if your data is not reliable, their answer is "Yes", and told me I should give them a call first before I come to them. Again, Never trust its data on the store's website. read more

I typically try not to make any eye contact or speak to anybody in this store. I have discovered over the several years of going to this location that the staff on the floor is generally untrained and unwilling to be helpful. They prefer to just go about their day stocking product and not speak to anyone except for their other friends that work there. read more

Great location with friendly staff that are always Willing to help! I was here yesterday and got two propane cans filled up for my patio heater and the Menard's team made sure I was in and out quick. Definitely recommend this location to all Melrose park residents. read more

This is our favorite big box hardware store, especially in terms of garden center supplies, paint, and so many kinds of mulch, all at a good price! And today I get another 11% rebate! Masks required and all staff are wearing them. Some customers take them off once inside though. We had trouble finding wooden lattice for the deck. The associate at the front sent us upstairs, but not there.. Adrian was helpful and pleasant, sent us downstairs and outside. We are still hunting, but hope to find lattice soon. read more

The service is horrible, I went in for help I was told you go to a certain person, which was not there. And ask for more help and all I get was a run around from person to person that does not know anything. Please TRAIN this is sad in a home improvement store. Managers give you " A FACE" like we -the customers are bothering them. If they do not like their job ,why put up with it, and continue to be miserable with your lives. The selections are okay but not what I needed. The prices are a hit and miss. Some items were ridiculously priced high. I rather shop else where. The bathrooms are disgusting. Melrose Park, Illinois is one of the worst stores i've shopped at. You think a manager would read these reviews and " DO THEIR JOB" to improve but looks like they do not care. And Mr. Menard obviously doesn't either because he's made his money. read more

Everybody should know this. I worked with these people since December of 2015. I was one of the pianist. I played my set on December 29th 2024. The next day on the 30th I got an email from one of the managers saying they would not need my services anymore. I was never told why. I called them, a very low life act to do to somebody who was loyal to you for 9 years, customers like me, plenty of good compliments and tips. I happen to believe it's because I'm a disabled senior citizen and I just made 65. A real lowlife act this management is to not give anyone any notice or anything just send them an email the day after they finish after 9 years and tell them bye-bye. If this is the type of store you want to associate with you go ahead. I've got to go look for a job now. read more

I have no complaints about this Menards location! All of the staff were very friendly and helpful (especially to someone who wasn't very knowledgable about what I needed). The service is bad, the managers are rude. The selection is decent but most of the time it'll be returned because of a defect. The prices are okay but you really have to look carefully. Most of the worker's are very slow and will not stop to help you. I would not recommend this Melrose Park, IL location. The bathrooms always smell like urine. This Menards in Melrose Park is a replacement for the former Menards in the old Polk Brothers building by North Avenue and First Avenue. The new store is located about 1/2 mile west right off of Borth Avenue. WOW what a difference like night and day. Both Menards are 2 story buildings, but that's where the similarity ends. The old store was really dated and poorly laid out. The new store is gorgeous. Like all Menards they try to be one stop shopping selling everything from home improvement products (go figure) to cleaning supplies, Food products & health & beauty aids There is are escalators that rises at a very gradual slope. The cool part is the escalator is designed to take carts on it. The treads are grooved and the cart wheels have slots that automatically lock when pushed onto the escalator. This design prevents the cart from moving while going up or down until you reach the floor levels. As you near the top or bottom of the escalator the cart automatically disengages allowing you to roll the cart off. Really a cool innovative idea. There is also an elevator. The store layout has a two story atrium at both the entrance and exits. There is a ground floor entry with a mezzanine level built around the atriums. Like all Menards they have the different sections. They have hardware, electrical, cabinets, appliances, paint, health and beauty aids, plumbing, flooring, window treatments...the store is huge and will take a little time to familiarize yourself with the different departments Nice job Menards on a beautiful new store. read more

11% off sounds good until you find out you pay full price and have to send paperwork to get it and even then, you don't get a rebate you get it in the form of in-store card so you have to keep shopping Menards. I think 11% off should be 11% off at checkout and not something you have to use in the store. I don't go to Menards anymore. read more

HOME IMPROVEMENT A giant chain store that's far more than just endless aisles of tools. This Menards is HUGE (then again, aren't they all?) Rows of piping, lumber, painting accessories, and two whole floors packed with things to spruce up your personal real estate. They've even got a special gradual escalator pitched at 15° so you can take your shopping cart with you between levels. I stopped in to buy some hex drill bits as a Christmas gift for my old man and eventually found what I needed. Employees were helpful but hard-to-find at times; there was a guy playing songs on a baby grand piano upstairs! It was a lovely treat for holiday shoppers, I thought. There's a pretty nifty bargain DVD shelf near the entrance and a snack aisle that has tons of cool (and unusual) goodies. If you are trying to by their lumber yard and are a walk in customer. Make sure you take a cart from outside and a measuring tape. No carts , no service to answer questions, not well lit , long walk from store , no help loading. I love this store as it is so easy to get to and organized. You can spend hours in here with how large it is. It was a great new build, I have no complaints with the building or supplies themselves. It's clean and they're always restocking items. My complaints is with a majority of the employees and the manager there. They all seem like it's a hassle to help you and have bad attitudes. I visit frequently for paint. This summer particularly I visited to buy some paint to paint my outdoor shed. They were great in picking the right paint (however it's Dec and it chipped already) but it looked good while it lasted. I did not have enough because they didn't think it would take more than a gallon, which is FINE I don't expect them to know how much it would take. My complaint is that when I went back they were out of one of the mixing colors that made up my color and could careless trying to help me! I was there for an hour trying to figure out solutions with no help from any of them. No discount, NOTHING!!! Being extremely frustrated because I was in the middle of painting the shed that day and wanted to finish that day, they were willing to do absolutely nothing to help. The manager of the paint department even came over and said "I could go to a store and buy it but I don't want to" um, EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!?!?!? So as a normal frustrated customer would do, I went to the manager of the store, who had an EXTREMELY bad attitude, I believe his name was Michael. Willing to do absolutely nothing and didn't help the least bit to be accommodating. I asked him for the corporate number which he gave me after his reply was "They're not going to do anything, they're just going to refer you back to me" ARE YOU KIDDING, poor poor management! Customer service, horrible. The checkout people are pretty miserable too but at least they're waiting at the end of their aisle to help the next person who's ready to check out. That's my experience from my visit yesterday. I visit many hardware stores even some in different states and I can honestly say that the employees are the most unhappy at this location. I would be too if my manager isn't proactive in solving issues. Writing this review, just reminds me of how horrible and mad I was that day. I was overcharged on some trim and went to cust service desk where I was told to stand in line at return desk. Was told ther I had to go back to trim area at other end of store and TAKE A PICTURE of the bin ticket to prove THEY were wrong. After doing that had to stand in line again at return desk where I showed them the picture of the bin ticket. The girl who looked like she didn't give a damn said she had to have manager approve the diff. Waited 5 min for manager who the asked me again to show her the picture. I would give 0 stars if it was an option. First of all there is never anyone around to answer your questions but you can certainly find them all huddled together socializing. Well today I tried to visit but was turned away because no children under 16 are allowed. So explain to me how a single mother is supposed to get anything from the store. Should I start to leave my child home alone or in the car alone. If you order for store pickup your charged a 9 dollar service charge. Not even grocery stores are charging for their pickups. My closet shelving and clothes rack just fell off the wall one day. Not knowing anything about that type of work or the best way to hang A LOT of clothes, we still decided to repair it ourselves. The shelves were metal racks that you mount into the wall. They were bent out of shape and not usable. Long story short, we came to this Menards and were completely lost with so many options. We decided to go with wooden shelves. But weren't sure if the walls would support. We saw Chris on the second floor, helping a customer and although we saw him running around with the customer, he still asked us if we needed help. He helped the other customer and then politely came to us. We explained our situation and Chris took the time to explain every little thing to us. From screws, to anchors, to horizontal and vertical bases to keep the racks in place. After what seemed like a good 10-15 mins her set us up with everything we needed. And explained things so well that we got home and right away went to work and I had new shelves and racks within an hour or so. Thank you to Chris for taking the time on a busy Saturday during a pandemic when everyone is working on projects to explain everything detail we needed to know. read more

Menards uses an advertising strategy that offers us 11% rebates on everything , but am I the only one that never gets my rebates back ??? Once again I sent in my completed rebate forms (3) as directed but only received 1 back in return ! By the way ,it was the SMALLEST of the 3 rebates due to me . There is no way to reach their rebate clearing house to check on your rebates other than by e-mail and I have NEVER received a reply ! Is this a scam or is it just me????????? read more

My mother had to return a door three times because of improper size that they ordered incorrectly. If you do install it's ok. If you need someone to do install go down the road to Lowe's. I'm appalled at the lack of customer service skills managers at this location posses. Not only do they speak over you, they discriminate against people that don't speak perfect English. They are not solutions oriented and offer absolutely no help when it comes to returning items. I spoke with Martel or whatever manager was on staff and he told me there was no one else I could speak to including Corporate. I will never make another purchase here again. Not being from the Midwest I always thought Menard's was a grocery store for some reason until my friend told me it was like Lowe's, except 100 times better. As someone who enjoys fixing up random things, I found that to be a loaded statement. I walked in and instantly knew I was going to like this gigantic store. Paint, shelves, furniture, candy, decorations and everything in between at awesome prices. I know for locals this store might not be anything special but I felt like I discovered the Disney World for dorks like me that could easily spend an entire paycheck on home improvements. It's kind of like IKEA except less crowded. Plus, there's an escalator where you take your cart on and for some reason my mind was blown when I saw it. 7 thumbs up. read more

I like coming here. I liked the old Menards because I didn't have to walk way to far to get any service or get anything. Today I went to this menards to get a few peaces of wood. They are sold realy long so I had to ask someone to cut them to the right size. I asked a young man and he basically told me to go out side and wait. Thank God it was not that cold but it felt very strange to be ouside where there was absolutely no one. So I was getting cold. I went inside again a bit frustrated and asked another gentleman. This time he called someone to come and help. Edgar who came was a total gentleman and cut my peaces of wood perfectly fine. He was very fast and very nice too. I think they have to change the system here with this kind of services. It's a bit confusing. Other than that, mostly everyone specially the register where plesant. The lumber department of Menards in Melrose Park IL is poorly served. I asked for their expertise about some pieces of wood that I needed for a home project, (A kind of DIY project), and first of all a person named Billy gave me so much attitude because I was asking for his advice, and he was probably in bad mood. Then he made me order and pay for so much extra wood that I did not request. Then he did place an special order because they did not have in store what he recommended me to buy. So the special order of wood came, and I went to pick it up, but for my surprise, it was in so poor shape, and condition that I had to return it. The manager (His name is Angel) charged me 25% for re-stocking it because that's their policy. I tried to explain that if Menards provides a bad quality product is not a good practice to make the costumer to pay for that. He did not offer to change the product or to make an exception of the policy due to something that is not the costumer faults. In conclusion he wanted me to pay for the product in bad condition without any responsibility from Menards. at the end i had to loose 25% of my money and go to Home Depot to buy the wood that I needed. read more

What a transformation! This new store is much more welcoming than the old one. It is so big and bright. Even the bathrooms here are clean and they smell good too. There are so many employees working here that you can always find someone to assist you. I like that they added some dry and canned goods along with some frozen items (like ice cream).
