The problem is their business hours: Kroner's is really only open when normal people are at work. When I actually need to buy some kind of hardware (say, on a weeknight at 6pm, or on a Saturday afternoon when I'm doing a home repair, or on a Sunday), this place is inevitably closed. Apparently their target customer is unemployed people? Or maybe Kroner's expects us to take time out of our working day to patronize their store? Business hours of, say, 11:30am to 7:30pm seven-days-a-week would make a lot more sense if Kroner's actually wanted to -- you know -- sell things to people. Because of Kroner's business hours, 90% of the time when I need hardware, I trek allll the way up to the north end of town, to Wal-Mart or Menard's or Home Depot, which are open during the hours when working people like me aren't at work.

Most of the time, I end up getting a recommendation or help from one of the very knowledgeable staff. This is a true vintage hardware store- where they'll have the one right-size bolt, gasket or just the widget you need- along with a Mothers Day gift, a Christmas card, or just a six-pack of locally-brewed (Spring Grove, MN) Root beer. Most of the time, i make a conscious choice to shop at Hardware Hanks. Even if they don't have the absolute lowest price (like Wal-Mart or other big-box stores) their customer service, willingness to help, and just all-around midwestern hospitality always make me glad that I did.

The call was put on hold and dropped twice during the transfer. Third time was put on hold while the department was paged, before being dropped again. Here's the scoop from an experienced sales and marketing person, this is not how customers should be treated. (Yup, I said "customer"!) When a person calls you three times for the same thing, it means they want to know that you have what they need, hence, they are a customer. When you fail repeatedly to provide them with the information they seek, they don't think of you the next time they need something else that may be related to their first failed search. Hopefully, the folks at Ace of La Crosse will see this, and have a team meeting, about how important satisfying a customer's curiosity by answering a simple question, can be a crucial first step in getting a customer. I have gone into the store on several occasions looking for a specific item after searching on…read moreline. It tells me that they have stock on the item which is why I go. When I get there, I go to the specific aisle where the item is supposed to be located and there is none. Most recently a battery charger. One model showed stock in "clearance" and there was another more expensive one showing in stock that I would have purchased. I asked an employee who told me where they "should" be. I informed him that I had already looked and found none. He then said, "well, then they have been stolen"! He did go check in the back and there were none. It has been over a week and one still shows on clearance while the other does say it will be back in stock soon. The inventory is consistently erroneous, making it of no value to the store or customer!! I have worked with inventory most of my life so this is maybe more bothersome to me. I have a high capacity tool battery, with no way to charge it until they get the correct charger back in stock. With automated systems, things do not get ordered if they show on hand inventory. If this only happened occasionally, no big deal but it seems to happen more frequently than it should!!

I just returned home from Your Onalaska Store. I went there to purchase…read morea bib valve for my washing machine hot water supply. All of your valves for the washing machine application have "blue" handles. The gal in the Plumbing Dept. said there is no such thing as "red" handled valves for a washer hook up. I tried to explain that "red" is for the hot water and "blue" is for the cold water hook up. She got kind of "huffy" and told me top paint it "red ". To which I responded that she should talk to whomever orders the valves should get a paint brush and some red paint and when the next shipment comes in, paint half of them "red". I have been doing plumbing for a long time and the red/blue has always been a standard application for a wash machine hook up. Jim S
