There is a song on the Rolling Stones' Black and Blue album called "Memory Motel". As a friend of mine and I were rolling around the eastern tip of Long Island, we came across a "worn in" looking place called the Memory Motel. Of course my eyes locked on to the small word on the sign above the words "Memory Motel": BAR. Naturally we got out to take a look. It was a Tuesday, and the place is only open Thurs-Sun. They open later in the evening, and they love to have live bands. As luck would have it the band playing on Thursday is called "2U". Who do you suppose they are a tribute band for? We pull up on Thursday with our lady friends and park it at the bar. We're maybe the 4th-7th customers for the evening. The band is set up, but not in the room. Right after we get settled in, the Memory Motel Softball Team starts rolling in. How did we know? All of their shirts had "Memory Motel" on them, and all of them had the sleeves cut off. Much of the populace of eastern Long Island drives Range Rovers, Jaguars, etc., but the kind people of Montauk trend toward pickups. Since the band du jour was a U2 cover band, we started speculating on which of the patrons was Bono. It started with a couple of the softballers: "THAT's yer man." "No THERE he is." "My bet is on that guy over there." It eventually degenerated into speculation about every soul that walked in the door. Man woman, it didn't matter. It was fun. The actual singer ended up being some guy with a Yankees hat on backward and a large cocktail in a plastic cup. He did the sound check dressed like that, and came back for the show with a straw cowboy hat and the expected wrap around rose tinted shades. To be fair, his singing was pretty good and a decent facsimile of Yer Man's. Let's just say this was a fun night. The crowd was pretty mixed. By mixed I mean people who looked like they were 21, and people who were bragging about being at Woodstock. The bartender was friendly and efficient, and it was good clean fun for the whole family. The bartender did tell us about the "Memory Motel" slash Rolling Stones connection: The place was always a motel, and the bar we were in was originally a little restaurant. There was a grand piano in the corner that Mick Jagger played a few times while he was in town visiting Andy Warhol in the late 60's early 70's. Evidently Andy had a compound out near Montauk at the time. The title of the song was probably inspired by the place. There might have been more of a connection, but as the story goes, the owner of the place didn't like Jagger because he was British, so the story ends there.

One of the best places anywhere....how anyone could give this place anything less than 5 stars is beyond me. Its rock & roll legacy is unsurpassed in its badass-ness. Not only did the Stones name the song after it but they wrote F-ing Wild Horses here for gods sake! It was the only place in Montauk with (at the time) a piano and a pool table while they were crashing at Warhol's compound out here. Pure Awesomeness. While its legacy is unsurpassed, the place is firmly ensconced in the present and is constantly reinventing itself into all different forms of cool, even in the course of a single day. Take our recent experiences here on a perfect June Saturday. We got word early afternoon that the great Winston Irie was playing a afternoon show here, as he apparently does on a regular basis thru out the summer. When we arrived we were most pleasantly surprised by out total pro bartender (there all amazing but much respect in particular to John) , that we hd stumbled into an hour of free open bar (well liquor and beer) for the next hour out of nowhere! The free beer made the incredible reggae Winston and the boys were serving out even more incredible! Later at night we returned to catch the tail end of a live cover band (super cheesy but in a good way), which was followed by a wild set from a DJ that by nights end had devolved into a fantastically decadent rave type atmosphere. I can't even begin to imagine actually staying in one of the gloriously disgusting rooms at this place but god bless anyone who does!

Terrible experience - the guys that worked there were extremely rude. Don't go here, especially during COVID.

I've never had this combination before, and it was absolutely brilliant. Honestly, I'd go back just for this dish alone. The restaurant itself is really cute, and we were thankfully able to snag a table without a reservation on a Sunday for brunch--but only because we came early before the crowds rolled in around 9 - they def rolled in as we were leaving! My husband ordered the French toast, which was also delicious. You really can't go wrong with their breakfast or brunch options, but the scrambled eggs with burrata and avocado truly stand out. Highly recommend!

As soon as you walk inside, you see just how WARM AND COZY the ambiance is, and I absolutely LOVED the dim lighting via candlelight, too. Atmosphere aside, the food was positively INCREDIBLE. (Clearly this review is warranting lots of all-caps.) We ordered the melt-in-your-mouth wagyu sando (that came with a cute cup of fries), which was great, but the real star of the show was the blue crab! Think deconstructed crab chowder -- this decadent dish featured lump blue crab in a frothy brown butter with snap peas and corn, and it was super memorable, to say the least. We also ordered their Leggy's Thighs, which was another standout plate of small, de-boned fried chicken thighs with garlic, Parmesan, Fresno peppers, and microgreens. (This is not your average fried chicken!) The chef here created a deliciously delicate menu this season that definitely highlights both French and Japanese techniques. (We also caught the very beginning of their weekly trivia night, which seemed super fun and definitely something to keep in mind for the future!) What can I say except that this place is a Montauk gem. With incredibly delicious food, thoughtful service, wonderfully warm ambiance, and the ocean only 100 feet away, Bird on the Roof is a dining experience that will create only the best memories.

This isn't a martini that justifies a smaller pour it's a basic mixed drink, and the serving felt completely stingy. For the price, you'd expect at least a full glass. Definitely not what you'd hope for at that price point. Disappointing.

Customer service treated the incident like it was absurd that we would be distraught over FINDING A SNAKE UNDER THE BED. Details below. I planned my best friend's bachelorette weekend in Montauk, and booked Ruschmeyers. We had a Friday through Sunday booking. Saturday night, we returned from dinner, and a snake was spotted in the room. We looked through the room and discovered a snake under the bed that I slept in Friday evening. We called the after hours line (there is not a single staff member on site at the hotel) and they sent someone to remove it. The snake was huge. (See attached photos and video). It was close to 3 feet long. It was terrifying. The whole night all I could think about was how a snake was under the bed that I slept in the night before. We did not sleep that night. Since this incident happened, it has been difficult for me to fall asleep. I now remove the bed sheets prior to getting into bed at night because I need to make sure nothing is underneath them. I arrived back home to Chicago Monday, and called customer service Tuesday. I was greeted with hostility. The person on the phone made it seem like it was absurd that I would be upset about finding a snake under the bed. They said 1. Well, it's a rural area 2. Well, we did remove it I didn't even receive any semblance of an apology or acknowledgment of how scary the entire incident was. Customer service said " so what are you asking for" and I said I think some form of refund is appropriate. He told me he would call me the following day with an outcome. Wednesday came and went, nothing from Ruschmeyers customer service. I called twice Thursday, no answer. I texted the thread where they had previously reached out to me, no response. On Sunday I had the bride -to- be send an email and explain what happened, with pictures. No answer. She followed up on her email. They finally responded. They said they would give her a call Wednesday. Once they called her, they told her it was really out of their hands at this point, as I waited a WEEK to reach out. I called 2 days after checkout, math is hard for some I guess. It was the same customer service rep I spoke with the week prior. They behaved as if her email was the first time we reached out. They offered a small reduction in the total bill. She called them again and I joined the line. I laid out exactly how many times I reached out, how they told me they would follow up with me and never did. We argued. I explained that at this point. with their lack of understanding and their dismissal of our complaint THAT WE FOUND A LARGE SNAKE UNDER A BED I would expect a full refund. They denied us this. They mentioned that if we visited Montauk again they could offer us some discount on a new booking. To think we would ever stay here again, knowing their casual and dismissive response to our rightful complaint is laughable. We finally came to an agreement that they would refund us a night of the stay. To recap, it took: 10+ unanswered phone calls 5 text messages that were ignored 3 actual conversations with customer service, of which not a single "I apologize that this happened" occurred I am attaching pictures and videos of the snake. It is incredibly disappointing that Dune Resorts treated us so poorly. To treat this situation like it was something overdramatic, or did not warrant us as guests to be upset, well I will let the video and pictures speak for themselves.

I got clam chowder and my girlfriend got shrimp. The shrimp was not fresh and the clam chowder was thin and watery. The main course wasn't much better.
