In Waterloo on campus for WLU, this place is small but has some seating. They have shakes and drinks and are also licensed if you want a beer. Their grilled cheese sandwiches and poutines can be made vegetarian or vegan....YAY for me!! I had the mini vegan poutine which was a decent portion with a sandwich. My vegan grilled cheese was on gf bread so it was smaller bread than the regular. I don't remember the brand of vegan cheese they use, but it is a "mozzarella" type and melts quite nicely. I had guacamole and corn salsa on my sandwich but will try plain next time as I didn't feel like I tasted the cheese. Had so much potential, but ultimately disappointing. Probably the worst macaroni and cheese I've ever had. Had a sour taste, and no cheesy taste at all. Nashville chicken was surprisingly bland too, and grilled cheese as well. Bolder and sharper cheeses may help. Staff was very nice. read more

3.5 stars. I've walked by this place for a few months, just waiting for it to open. Well, it finally has, and I'm glad that there's another late night option available now. The meltwiches, as their name implies, aren't quite grilled cheeses. But they're still pretty tasty, if a bit on the pricey side. The original chicken club is solid, but unfortunately comes with warm lettuce. The Godfather, with its combination of balsamic reduction, pesto aioli, and prosciutto, is a bit of a mish-mash of flavours and is skippable in my opinion, especially since it's the priciest option on the menu. As for the sides, the onion rings are pretty great value for the price, but the Mac and Cheese leaves a lot to be desired. The milkshakes are pretty good. They don't have their liquor license yet, so you can't get a spiked shake for now, but I'm looking forward to trying them out! read more

I've passed by Meltwich a number of times but didn't get a chance to try it until recently. We ordered the classic melt w/ cheddar and a fried egg and a poutine. Their specialty are their meltwiches, so our expectations were high for the one we ordered. I thought the egg meltwich was pretty tasty, the bread was lightly toasted with butter and the cheese didn't taste cheap (like the Singles cheeses). The poutine was just OK, not enough cheese curds and the gravy was really salty. Overall, I'd recommend coming here and checking out their melted sandwiches but avoid their poutine. read more

I came here with a friend when this place just opened and we had a 50% off because they just opened. I had the Monster Melt which was $12 and my friend had the Guac and Roll which was $6.5. I think we had tater tots on the side. So the food is pretty decent here, but I feel you can just make what they serve here at home. But I understand the appeal for the grilled cheese sandwiches because students are lazy or you want some late night food you can come here since it's opened pretty late. The food surprisingly took kind of long to make, but in the end when it came out it was pretty decent. I think it's easy to make these things taste good when you add a bunch of cheese and oil. In the end tasted pretty good while I was eating it, but after the meal I felt like it was pretty unhealthy and that I just damaged my body! I think it's okay to come here once and try it out, but I probably wouldn't return because it's too greasy and unhealthy. But if that's what you want, this place is great for that! read more

I usually don't write many (bad) reviews but I ordered food here today and it wasn't a great eating experience. Ordered a chicken club sandwich and the guy making it did not leave it on the grill long enough. It was soggy and the bread was still white. I tried toasting it at home to fix it but still was gross. Tater tots were good but not worth it of course to go back. I will eat the costs this time but won't be going back again. The service at that restaurant was so bad and so rude!!! i was told to read the menue properly as this was a cheese place as I asked to change my hamburger for one with no cheese as I didn't know there was going to be cheese by default. Decided to give Meltwich a try while in the area. Ordered up the tattooed chicken club sandwich with a mini poutine and a strawberry shake. The club was pretty good but could have used some more time on the panini press as some of the cheese wasn't quite melted. The Poutine was ok but nothing spectacular and the shake was nothing special as well, it was hand spun, but made with strawberry syrup. I absolutely LOVE Meltwich. I've only tried the one in Mississauga. So when I saw that they opened one in Waterloo....I had to go. And boy was I glad I did. I met Howie who was absolutely fantastic. As I was overwhelmed with excitement with my choice selection, he was patient and took the time to recommend me items based on my current mood. Hungry!!! I got the big melt burger and a poutine even though I went for a Meltwich. Tyson made my food and it was PERFECTION!! Both gentlemen made my experience so great and not only will I go back. I eat here with my friends quite a lot but I'm more so disappointed with my recent order. I usually get the tator tots here and they're usually freshly made and taste great and crunchy! However, my most recent skip the dishes order was disappointing. I could tell they had re-deep fried the tator tots which made it a lot harder to bite on and the flavours were completely off. I'm really sad to say that it tasted gross and highly recommend this store to not re-fry tator tots or fries again. read more

The staff here is an absolute treat and truly the definition of customer service. They take the time to talk to customers and get to know them personally upon frequent visits. The atmosphere is very lively with the music and TV's constantly going. The food is overall very enjoyable. Grilled Cheeses are very good, along with the chicken tenders. A must try is the milkshakes, either with or without alcohol (both are just as good). The only downside is that the prices are slightly higher than the average sandwich shop.
