The poutine I ordered was not good at all. Not only did the fries taste off-putting, but the cheese was gross as well. It has a squeaky and rubbery texture but does not melt. They were also stingy with the amount of gravy. Only giving 2 stars because service was relatively quick read more

So disgusting this is not what poutine is about. You truly don't have a love for food if you enjoyed a poutine from here.

Early solid for what it is. Prefer the prime beef deluxe myself. Great little immediate location as well for walking around and hanging out. read more

When in Canada..you gotta try poutine!! Lucky for me they have VEGETARIAN poutine. Woohoo!! Vegetarian gravy, peas, mushroom, onions and cheese over fries. :) Smokes' stays open later on Friday and Saturdays!! We came the Friday night before halloween..so it was packed full of people with a line out the door, so a new batch of fries were made constantly for the rush..I was worried from previous reviews saying the fries were soggy but I guess we got lucky! :) CASH ONLY!! But once again we got lucky and they ACCEPT US currency under $50.00. read more

IHey Yelpers! Take note This order was done through the Skip-the-Dishes App! Be aware when ordering online or thru apps, some restaurants do take advantage & blame COVID-19 Any of this happening to you? Yelp it! KR I ordered a regular poutine w/ tots on top plus extra cheese 3.49 extra gravy anyway Plus tax $2.49 plus courier fee $1.49 plus courier tip 4.00 (contactless delivery to my door) anyway totalled $26.59! Note left it outside my Bay200 building not my door even though he buzzed up left at the entry door under the buzzer! It gets worse! It's a small box with only 4 in total tatter tots extra cheese $3.49 (5small pieces) extra gravy 1.89 Only 4 pieces (in total) of cheese curds & I paid an extra $3.49 for extra cheese so what comes on a regular poutine doesn't matter that's real Quebec cheese curds when there's NO extra! The size of this box doesn't FIT what I actually ordered? Called restaurant & basically got told that's the size I ordered if it is? Than Smoke's should not offer extra cheese when there's no room in the container or put it in a proper larger container! I always try a restaurant several times before I comment on a #HamOnt restaurant! This is my 3rd try at smokes poutine thru skips & I paid $27.00 for this meal, don't bother wasting your money because this is the worst poutine restaurant in Hamilton & area. One Star only check the pictures & I didn't have anything else, I didn't order a drink or anything else with this order! I'm not happy with skip the dishes either my contactless delivery is suppose to be at my door, not outside the main building! My building was not busy at the time no excuses either for not coming in & delivering properly! Yes, barely worth 1 Star! Kimberly Robyn read more

Why is it when the night falls and AM is fast approaching , the need to munch on grub comes so naturally?. Everyone nods in agreement and excitedly asks if anyone knows somewhere that is open late. I forgot where I had parked my car and surprisingly ended up at the end of Hess Village strip with a shiny red glow beckoning me to come hither ^_^ This place is cool. I had never been to any of the other bazzillion locations but who knew Hess Village had some decent options. The Village itself is pretty busy so I was pleasantly surprised how fast the service was here. There's a massive chalkboard on the right side , Along the entrance wall so you can occupy yourself with some doodling whilst you wait for your poutine. I like this A-plenty! The inside is pretty tiny with about 4 to 5 stools. I'd assume to keep the masses of drunken fools out. Only 1 washroom , shared (shudder) . Excellent place to people watch, unless your more the "chat up randoms" kinda gal. I can go either way so I def got my fix. The price is pretty standard and the poutines not bad. It was pretty nice and fresh when me & my gf ordered it. I got the Philly cheese steak and she got the veggie. The portion is pretty hearty so I'd avoid getting separate ones when 1 is good enough to share. They had some interesting options so I wouldn't mind trying something else out next time. There was one with sweet peas that sounded pretty random. Over all, not bad for a small quick-grub-grab joint (I think I just made a cool title) . I would def hunt out for this place if I was down at Hess again and IF I can keep my directions in check. fun fact: Drunken nights feel so much more complete with a chalk in hand, doodling my heart out...Until some stupid drunk guy makes fun of your flower doodle and calls it a Vagina. Stupid drunk guy. xoxo M. read more

It was ok, nice experience but it was too much calories and fast food style. If you are looking for just fast food that satisfies you go there, not too healthy. Maybe good for kids. Also big portions so maybe you need to ask for the small sides read more

Maybe the reviews of other yelpers have been boosted by the influence of a bevy of alcoholic beverages, mood elevating medicinal herbs from next door or misplaced nostalgia/ Canadian nationalism because I can't for the life of me figure out why poutine as mediocre as this warrants such high praise? I paid nigh $10 I was going to get my money's worth because I lived though the Great Depression in my past life, obviously. But to my shame I had to nope out at half the carton and toss it. The people next to me watched on as I ate with a look of slightly amused disgust after throwing theirs out as well. Probably wondering if we were eating the same poutine. We were. I went home and made poutine the next day. It was so much better. I am by no means a top chef. I just used fresh ingredients. read more

The Pouting I had from her was fabulous. The only thing I was not a fan of was the ground beef. In my mind I thought it was going to be more like a beef brisket. My friend had the Jerk Chicken Poutine and that was divine. read more

Have eaten here twice and I'm completely disappointed both times. My husband always gets extra stuff on it but they never add anything so therefore he's paying for nothing because apparently they can't read special instructions. The gravy is watery and that is disgusting. The fries were cold both times, the cheese curds were hardly melted and I know it takes a lot for them to melt but come on, they were not even slightly melted. It's a waste of money. I don't know what happened to this place I used to hear such good things about it and have been highly disappointed both times. read more

Completely lackluster. Every single time I've tried to eat here the food has been very underwhelming. The gravy is bland and the toppings don't do much for the flavour either. For the high price point, anyone would expect much more than what is given. I live and work in the area and it would be the most convenient snack choice for me but you'll much sooner find me across the street at Queen's Subs, thanks. P.S. Unless you're completely wasted, don't eat here. Only a drunk person could think this crap tastes good. read more

Open very late for those cravings in the evening, incredibly friendly staff, clean, quick, and let's be honest, THEY SERVE POUTINE! Plus, morning after breakfast poutine is available: they open up at 11am on Sundays too! As a vegetarian, and a regular orderer of the regular veggie and the alternative nacho veggie, I love this place. The rich mushroom gravy is second to no meat-gravy alternative: it goes incredibly well with the fresh fries and the delicious cheese curds. Great poutine and great location in Hess Village. You're golden. read more

Great variety, polite and fast service and great flavour; Smoke's is fast becoming a late night institution in Hess Village. Regardless of the time of day, you'll walk away from here full and happy. read more

I've been to this place a few times and I've walked out happy and full each time, and I've never ordered the large poutine, the regular sized has always been enough for me. First time I went, I had the double pork poutine, which consisted of pulled pork, peppercorn gravy and real bacon on tip like sparkles on a sundae. Brilliant combo, especially if you're a fan of pulled pork. Second time I went, I had the Country Chicken, which consisted of cheese, gravy, chicken, mushrooms and onions. It was another great combination of flavour and the mushrooms were the best part of it. The third time I went, I had the Philly Cheesesteak Poutine. Every time I went there with my brother, he always ordered this one so I finally gave it a try. I can see why he loved it so much, as it had everything you'd expect in that classic Philly sandwich, all draped on top of fries for a messy but delish poutine. There are still at least a dozen poutines I haven't even tried yet and they release new ideas all the time. For a quick and filling meal, it's a great place to hit for lunch or after hitting Hess with the buds for a few brews. Give it a go and try some of the best poutine combos you'll ever see. read more

Went here around 7:30 on a Saturday night. There was only one girl working she was prompt but no enthusiasm. We ordered a traditional poutine & a roast beef deluxe. We were not impressed with either. Both lacked flavor and we had to add salt which a good gravy or poutine sauce should have had. The potatoes were too mushy and it was too difficult to mix everything in the box so everything was coated as they just pour everything on top. We both ended up with heartburn. Far too much hype for this place. read more

This was my first time there, craving for some poutine on a friday night. I came across this one on yelp, and I went for a try. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. Yes, there are many choices of toppings, and there was not much of a wait. However, the fries were not good at all. And it was quite one the expensive side. I would not go back and recommend this. read more

This place is not the same went way down don't waste your money fries are gross old gravy not even worth half

If you like greasy food, you should go here. If you like poutine, you must go here. We went on an off hour, so it was a one-man-show but this guy did a great job. He even brought the food to the table (and I'm pretty sure they don't normally have waiting service.) I was a little surprised by the small size of the place; I imagine it would be hard to get in on a weekend night with the Hess crowd right there. Research the parking situation if you're from out of town. There are a lot of options for a place that sells just one thing. If it can go on fries, they have it. I had the chili cheesesteak poutine. The cheese and gravy were amazing. This was weeks ago now and I can still imagine the taste. There were two sizes and we all ordered the smaller, which was plenty of food for the average dude. read more

Well, I've been here several times. The poutine is honestly ok, but tbh, every fucking time I've been here over the past 2 years they've said cash only after midnight. This is bullshit. Fix your fucking machine for drunk people unless you want them to spend more which is probably what you want. It's m mad and I want compensation. I'm a loyal customer and this is BS read more

They should change their sign to say they close at 10:30. Clerk had already shut down all the equipment at 10:30 because they were closing soon. Website, yelp, and sign on door all say 11pm. One Star because the food is tasty but we never got any. read more

It's poutine and poutine done right! I'm just disappointed that they don't have BBQ sauce anymore. I used to love getting the vegi gravy with BBQ sauce. They also had a really good poutine with Kraft dinner on it... sounds disgusting, but i enjoyed every bite. read more

Great fries, comes with skins. Poutines are nice and hot. Gravy sauce taste great with the cheese. The first time I went I got the hogtown Large. I berely finished and after I finish, I have trouble walking to the car. The toppings they put in are alot and just the right amount. The bacon are crispy and the slice onion are nicely cooked. (and taste great). Right now as I'm writting this review, I am having the prime beef. It taste just as great. nicely cooked ground beef. Overall, It's the best poutine ever. read more

Kristen Reid abhors this establishment. I would gladly polish off a lean cuisine over diving into a meal at this place. Like, seriously, this place needs to up its game. I've been to several Smoke's in Toronto and they always produce quality poutine. Went here tonight with a group, and everyone's fries were undercooked, and the gravy was lukewarm and too runny. Never coming back unless I am blasted to the extreeeeme. read more

Finally made it in. Not disabled friendly as the entrance is up a set of stairs. Mind you, the choices of Poutine were amazing. They have gluten free options. Got the largest Poutine for my husband who moaned with each bite. Yes, it's that good. read more

The poutine is amazing. It's just a small place, but there's some seating. The food though is fantastic! We had just regular poutine but there are some super neat concoctions to try. It's cash only though! read more

Being a Canadian, I have always loved poutine. Heck, I've been to plenty of different Smoke's locations across Canada. This one, however, is the absolute worst. The service is absolutely terrible. The past five times I have tried to go get some late night poutine, the employee's have "closed for the night" 45 minutes to an hour early. I can understand this on a slow night, but there were multiple people hoping to order over 50 minutes before close. It's unfortunate such an iconic Canadian chain can be ruined by young idiot employees. Lost two, if not more, dedicated customers tonight. read more

dont go at the bar rush. youll get half a poutine covering a container of fries. BUT, if you go during the day it's usually pretty solid.

Poutine was very good. Unfortunately it was really slow coming out. The other thing that bugged me was the sticky floor!

Bit pricey, but it always tastes good. Not much of a review needed...fries + gravy + cheese = good read more

Unfortunately I am not exactly an expert regarding poutine, so this was my first experience. I ordered the nacho version, which was great - french fries and cheese curds covered in gravy, chili, guacamole and jalapeño pepper slices.
