Craft beer selection is good, with UP brews (Ore Dock,Upper Hand) featured. Some limited hot food, like pizza slices, is available, and there is a small corner table where you can sit and nosh if you don't feel like eating in the car. And just on the off chance you've shot a bear...you can officially register your kill here. (I've never written that in a Yelp review and I expect I never will again.) This gas station had gas for $4.49. The inside was super clean as well. The bathroom actually smelled good, and it was clean. The gentleman at the counter was greeting everyone that walked in. He was super nice. He kept saying "good morning, how are you today, thank you for stopping in." He was just super friendly and welcoming!

Plus the NICEST old man owner working the store!…read more Yes, you will pay more for gas here and most likely the produce, but you will leave with a smile on your face and definitely be glad you stopped in to meet this one of a kind (or maybe more like the only one left) small gas/grocery store owner! Think Sam Druker from the General Store in Green Acres, and I kid you not... the theme music from the Beverly Hillbillies was playing in the store! (You young Yelpers... look it up!). I stopped here to get a few gallons because I wasn't sure how far it would be until the next gas station. It literally looks like one of those roadside stands that sells local product, but it had a pump, so I stoped in. The pump said no credit, cash only and you had to pay ahead of time. I went in and said I'll take $10, and handed him a $20. The pumps are old time, so I wasn't used to numbers actually spinning as I pumped. Of course, I went over $10, so I just went for $20. I eventually ended on $20.10. Went back in to tell him I went over the $10, and he said "by how much, we are on the honor system here"! I paid him 10 cents! Before we left, he gave me a Yooper Jigsaw Puzzle" which was a small bag of saw dust. Lol And he gave my wife a small bag that contained a marble (in case you lose your marbles), and candy kiss (to remind you that someone loves you), a penny (so you will never be broke), an eraser (to make your mistakes disappear), a string (to help hold things together) and a rubber band (to stretch yourself to your limits). Listen.... If you are ever are traveling through the north woods of Upper Michigan, you NEED to stop here and check this place out! Nice to see a place like this is still around!

We grabbed some lunch since we saw they had a deli case-hot chicken patty sandwich and a chicken salad sandwich, both fresh and delicious! We drive this route a lot, it's nice to find places that we can add as stops on our trips that make for a fun time. Now we can pass thru Manistique on our way to Escanaba and be all "we're almost to the Rapid River Mini Mart, yaaaaaay!"
