So, we took a drive up to Midway General Store, which was very close to the cabin. Owners Erica and Mike were amazing; they were very friendly and candid. Their openness in getting to know you made you feel like a local and comfortable, not a fishy out of water. You're probably wondering, did you just get the water and leave? Well, no, we ended up buying the whole store. What I think is neat, they will display individuals' handmade goods to sell, so those folks passing by can buy them. On another note, the ice cream they sell is beyond amazing. I usually get sick with inflammation from ice cream because of the dairy, but surprisingly, this ice cream did not make a dent, and I was able to enjoy every bite. The ice cream is locally made, I cannot remember the name, but I should have taken a photo because they have it is displayed. Overall, this is an amazing place to stop by, purchase items, or grub on food. The only regret I had was trying the red food truck ..I hope to be back soon!

I called Skip's and spoke to Heidi, and she said they were very busy but would do their best to get us on the road. After Charlie towed us to Skips (and as a former mechanic was able to lead us to the alternator), Skips worked it in, managed to find an alternator for a 2011 Honda and fixed it so that we got back on the road by 5:30. I was considering what kind of disaster we were headed for but Skips saved us a lot of trouble so we could continue on our trip. I would use them all the time if they were in my hometown.

Pulled in, explained our issues, had a spare and needed it changed. They had other work, but two of their guys immediately came out, accessed the job and went right to work switching tires, tough job on a sprinter. 45 minutes later at a very fair price, we were on our way. Tom was eating lunch at the time, but he quit eating to come take a look at the tire. He jacked up the car, removed the tire, and quickly found the issue (a screw, compounded by our use of fix-a-flat that was preventing us from being able to add air). Aaron, the store manager was so kind and helpful…read more Last Saturday while visiting Munising for a few days, I shattered a window in my Honda Pilot (quarter window). I had a 6 hour drive home scheduled for the next day. I stopped in to see what the store might offer for a temporary fix for my window for my SUV. (didn't help my anxiety level by the fact that I was driving my wife's car.) Aaron sold me a roll of Gorilla type, gave me a bag, a card board, and lent me a pair of scissors. He told me to park on the side of the building and gave me a suggestion on how to temporarily fix my window for my 6 hour trip. I was working on the fix, when Aaron came out after his other customer's were gone and saw that I was struggling a little. He "helped me" by fixing the window himself with an assist from me. He was so kind and considerate. Because the Gorilla tap was black and water proof, I could hardly tell the window was broken. It was totally tapeeinside and out with a fitted piece of cardboard In between. As a result we were able to drive home to IL the next day with about 4 hours of pouring rain during part of the trip. I tried to give him some cash to buy him and his family lunch, but he refused our offer. Such a small town, friendly and helpful experience. Greatest car breakdown experience ever -…read more I would recommend Auto Value to anyone in or around town for all your auto needs (they are incredibly smart and kind and generous) and also if you just wanted to stop in for a chat :) We're three kids on a road trip far from home and ended up with a bad alternator (something we know absolutely nothing about) we went into Auto Value to get a jump pack and were met with kindness and encouragement from Jake and help from Nate (a former employee) who diagnosed our problem for free since all the auto shops were closed. Once the alternator was theorized to be the problem Jake immediately had it ordered to arrive the next morning for us. The next day all the Munsing shops were booked up and Aaron helped me connect with other local shops and talk me through my options and when nothing worked out with other places he charged our battery and took us to his home shop (he happens to be a retired mechanic himself) and installed our alternator for free! So incredibly grateful to the whole team for saving our trip and taking care of us at every step. With all done and solved we went and visited beautiful falls recommended by Aaron's family then were finally able to get back out and fish on one of the many beautiful lakes in the UP :) Wishing you all the very best
