a variety of meats in a display case

This is a favored place to stop at when visiting the area, which I have on several occasions. Their prices are pretty reasonable considering their rural location, and their meat and beer selections are top notch. Their sirloin and rib eye steaks comes at a great price and are among the best steaks I've ever had.

Only because of the charm it carries. It's small and the selection is very limited, in fact the gas station just up the road has a better selection in some ways. But, the people are pleasant, their beer selection was surprising. Their pricing was reasonable. And in the middle of the winter it just makes me feel good going into these small community stores.

Small town grocery store. Helpful people, but not a lot of selection. They mostly had what we needed.

I agree with the other reviewer that the gas station up the road had a better selection of many items, but this store had some of the best meat I have ever had.

Walmart is Walmart is Walmart, it's the people who make the difference. I had interactions with…read morefour different people while shopping in the store and three of four were outstanding. A vendor in the electronics department was my first contact and though he wasn't a Walmart employee he approached and asked if I needed help as soon as I got that confused look on my face, and was very helpful. Because he wasn't a Walmart employee he was unable to answer a final question and directed me to the department manager who was clearly annoyed and only assisted me after I continued to press for assistance. As I continued wandering around the store while waiting for my wife I needed some assistance and encounter number three was initiated by a Walmart employee stocking shelves who went out of her way to walk me to my destination. My final contact came at checkout - self scan - where a very pleasant, friendly lady greeted me, assisted me and wished me a Happy New Year! The store was clean, well lit, lots of people working to keep the shelves stocked. Lots of parking, and the lot was well maintained despite 10+ inches of snow in the previous 48 hours. I've been in Walmart stores in many different states over the years, this one appears to be well managed and most people were helpful and friendly.

I am always appalled when I shop at Walmart anywhere. Has anyone paid any attention to their cart…read morereturn racks lately? You can't even use them because they are filled in with snow. So the carts are just blocking the parking lot everywhere. Besides the lack of attention inside the store also. The employees act like they don't even want to be there! I am sooo glad there is a clean Meijer store to shop at with happy employees. But I already know this review won't change anything because people will always shop where they can save a dollar and Walmart will continue to make it's millions without changing a thing. I think i will go now and place my order on Amazon.com from the comfort of my chair and have my order mailed to my door. Thanks for reading

What a cozy little market! This is the type of place where you'll find necessities and name-brand…read moreitems, but also local products, gourmet foods, produce (including rutabagas, for some reason), beer and liquor and wine, lots of snacks and candy, a frozen food section, and even a hot food area. Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

Today, the store is known simply as Doud's Market and is run by Andrew Doud, the 4th generation owner. On Main Street, Doud's is the only grocery store in Mackinac Island's downtown, it's a beloved hub for locals and tourists. Today, Doud's is a modern grocery store, with a mom-and-pop feel, offering a wide range of food & household essentials. Shoppers will find fresh produce, fresh-cut meats, prepared items like whitefish dip, chicken pot pie, subs, homemade pizza, & salads. The cherry chicken salad & cherry chicken salad wrap are customer favorites. The store also features a variety of baked goods, along with a comprehensive selection of wine, beer, and spirits.

What a blast from the past! Plus the NICEST old man owner working the store!…read more Yes, you will pay more for gas here and most likely the produce, but you will leave with a smile on your face and definitely be glad you stopped in to meet this one of a kind (or maybe more like the only one left) small gas/grocery store owner! Think Sam Druker from the General Store in Green Acres, and I kid you not... the theme music from the Beverly Hillbillies was playing in the store! (You young Yelpers... look it up!). I stopped here to get a few gallons because I wasn't sure how far it would be until the next gas station. It literally looks like one of those roadside stands that sells local product, but it had a pump, so I stoped in. The pump said no credit, cash only and you had to pay ahead of time. I went in and said I'll take $10, and handed him a $20. The pumps are old time, so I wasn't used to numbers actually spinning as I pumped. Of course, I went over $10, so I just went for $20. I eventually ended on $20.10. Went back in to tell him I went over the $10, and he said "by how much, we are on the honor system here"! I paid him 10 cents! Before we left, he gave me a Yooper Jigsaw Puzzle" which was a small bag of saw dust. Lol And he gave my wife a small bag that contained a marble (in case you lose your marbles), and candy kiss (to remind you that someone loves you), a penny (so you will never be broke), an eraser (to make your mistakes disappear), a string (to help hold things together) and a rubber band (to stretch yourself to your limits). Listen.... If you are ever are traveling through the north woods of Upper Michigan, you NEED to stop here and check this place out! Nice to see a place like this is still around!
