I've been going to Melrose Nails regularly since I moved to the area about 7 months ago and have had consistently great experiences. I get builder gel every 3-4 weeks and it lasts really well. My nails always look great and I get lots of compliments on them. I usually see Mirana and she does an excellent job. I've also seen several of the other nail techs and they've all been great. Everyone is friendly and takes their time to make sure the nails look perfect. They offer drinks and snacks, and the vibe is friendly and welcoming. UPDATE: The owner reached out to me directly and apologized for the misunderstanding with the gift card. I went back today and was able to use it, no problem. There were also some changes I saw this time that have taken effect since the change in ownership - there is now an online booking feature which is great, the massage and overall time with each customer was longer too. The women who work here are still fabulous and I'm glad that hasn't changed. ------------------------------------------------ I hate leaving less than stellar reviews, especially for a small businesses I've gone to for over a decade, but at this point I'm frustrated. The prices are a little high ($45) for a quick basic pedicure (20-25 min). But the women are friendly and getting an appointment is usually easy, even without online booking. What brings me here is that I went to use a gift card given to me for Mother's Day just 2 months ago and was unable to use it. Apparently the management/owner changed since the middle of May, although there were no signs before the change when my husband bought the gift card or when I went this week. What's frustrating is that I wasn't permitted to use it even though up front, before my service I said I had a gift card. As soon as I tried to pay they mentioned the new owner won't take those purchased before she took over. In a way I get it, it's not profits she'll realize, but as a customer what am I to do? It hasn't been 6+ months, there were no signs indicating the owner had even changed. I can't continue to support a business that can't give a grace period to loyal customers. This salon is fantastic. The ladies are incredibly friendly, fun and funny and make every visit quite enjoyable. I absolutely appreciate that you can see different techs without any awkwardness and always still receive the same high-quality results each time--it really speaks to how well the business is run I'd originally discovered the salon by following Judy and saw her there regularly. Then I stopped in on a Sunday (most convenient for me), I saw Linda who is equally as fabulous. Then a day Linda wasn't available, I saw Mirana which who I see most often now since our schedules match-up almost perfectly. I've yet to sit with Kim but know she is just as talented as the other ladies plus her & I have fun talking about clothes I used to do just shellac but am now totally committed to the Builder gel which lasts for me 3-4 weeks. Whereas, the shellac would peel off within days -but that's also because I have weak/thin nails and a picker ‍. Builder gel has been a miracle. PRICE: I booked a Full Set through ClassPass, but when I arrived, they told me it only applied to acrylics, not a regular mani-pedi, and asked me to pay $10 more. The front desk checked the ClassPass listing and admitted the description was inaccurate and should be updated. Even so, they asked me to pay the extra fee halfway through the service, just before finishing my nails. I felt I had no choice, even though the confusion stemmed from their own listing, which they acknowledged. I eventually found out that they get a lot of ClassPass customers, which made me wonder how many others were charged extra without ClassPass being aware. QUALITY: The service was disappointing. The nail shape didn't match what I asked for, and the polish work was below par, easily in the bottom 10% of mani-pedis I've had. They also gave me reused flip-flops with visible foot marks, which felt unsanitary. TAKEAWAY: While trying to verify the regular price to leave a tip, I couldn't find a price menu online. When they eventually showed me their iPad, the regular mani-pedi was listed at $64. For that price, there are many other salons that offer better service and clearer communication. I wouldn't have tried this place if I didn't have extra ClassPass credits. After this experience, I'd rather save the credits and spend the money elsewhere. read more

Had my first builder gel at Melrose Nails today. I've always done dip but Mirana introduced me to builder gel and a new nail shape (almond). LMAO I thought the only shape option was square. Well I definitely don't regret making the change. The builder gel literally lasted me 3-4 weeks with no peeling or breakage. My nails have never looked so good. Melrose Nail is my go to place now that there is a new owner. I have followed Judy from her own salon to now here at Melrose Nail. The new owner has made this salon similar to some of the high end spa salons you would see in the city without the city prices. It is very clean and has a relaxing spa like feel. There are a lot of colors to choose from (sometimes a challenge for someone who doesn't like decisions!). Under new management now and the salon looks amazing. Sooo many colors and types of polish and nail extensions to choose from. The staff is great too. .good conversation while you're getting your mani if that's what you want, not awkward silence for an hr. They know I never have time for both a mani and pedi but need both and have been great with being able to meet my needs-scheduling both at the same time. So I'll have two nail techs working on me at once. Sanitizing of tools is done right in front of you and you can see they're opening a new package as well. Exceptionally clean and brought up to date as well. Top of the line scrubs and lotions used and nice little gestures like keeping waters and seltzers stocked for customers. Worst experience at a nail salon...in my whole life. Not even joking. I called and asked if they had time for a full set, Michelle said to come in at 11. At 12pm I finally sat down, and told her I wanted a French set with pink and white powder. I also Asked for round nails. What did I get? Acrylic squared full set with a white plastic nail underneath. This is absolute trash! She charged me $65 for a service that is $35 tops. Those nails made me look like a $20 hooker. I brought this issue up to her that she did not do anything I asked, and she just brushed me off! Do not ever go here. I am warning you, they are ripping people off, and don't even listen to what you want. After I left, I went straight to I Love Nails in Malden, where they took it off, started over, and gave me exactly what I wanted. White and pink powder, cuticles cut, and rounded. Yikes. I guess this is what I get for giving a place a shot that has such a low rating. Every now and then I like to give places the benefit of the doubt and sometimes yelp reviews don't reflect the business but today I really didn't have a good experience at this establishment. Firstly, it seems to be a common theme both on the reviews and in person that they aren't upfront and honest about accurate wait times. Each person that walked in was just told to pick a color, but wasn't told that it could potentially be a very long time before they were serviced. Me, for instance, was sat in a pedicure chair and sat there so long my water was physically cold before my pedicure started. It was very crowded, and I observed a mother come in that had made appointments for she and her young daughter. The technicians started the mothers pedicure, and had the daughter wait. Everyone was under the impression the daughter would start her pedicure soon, but after what I swear was over an hour and a half, the daughter left in tears! It was SO awkward. Then, the technicians kept questioning (badgering) the mother: "why did she leave? Whats wrong with her? What happened?!" And the mother kept responding and saying "oh I think she was just tired" and trying to redirect the conversation and the technicians would NOT let it go!! It was SOOO uncomfortable. They KEPT AT IT! This is just a snippet of the badgering things they were throwing at this mother: "Well, we are busy what are you gonna do? Why is she upset? Will she come back? Tell her to come back now. How about tomorrow? If she doesn't come back now I'm going to be upset! Tell her that!" So finally, the mother gets in touch with the daughter and the daughter agrees that she'll come back to get her nails done. I heard the technician ask the mother whether she wanted to pay for both of them now or later. I was SHOCKED that after this entire ordeal they didn't offer to do the daughters nails for free!!! Additionally, I got my eyebrows waxed and they look really bad! Ive never once gotten my eyebrows waxed and the technician didn't show me a mirror after so I could look for myself. She didn't give a mirror, and when I finally saw my brows, I know why. They are completely uneven!! Awful. Yeah, this place has accurate reviews. I'd suggest going to another nail salon near by.. there are lots to choose from! My experience today was just plain cringey! I usually get my nails done to have a relaxing experience and I felt stressed the whole time! I was also late to dinner with a friend because it took SO long. Came here with a group of seven, all prepping for my friend's wedding the next day. To try to calm the nerves of the bride, we scheduled a little time in for some relaxation with some manis and pedis. I don't have much experience myself getting my nails all done up as I usually just do them myself at home, but seeing as this was a special occasion it was definitely worth it. When we arrived, we pretty much took over the shop, and the entire staff was friendly and efficient and kept us moving along (but never once did we feel pressed to leave or hurry up which was nice). Some of us went for the full pedicure and manicure, others just the manicure. Everything I saw came out great and the French manicure I got is still holding up today. read more

I have been to this place a couple times now and have always thought they were "meh," maybe a three star place. My nails and eyebrows always looked decent after leaving but the pedicure and manicure experience as a whole is below average. They also are not super welcoming or friendly. But It was easy for me to get to and has good hours, so I kept coming. Today will be the last time. I had the day off and walked in at about 10:30 on a Friday. I figured it wouldn't be too busy. There were two or three people waiting in front of me which I guess is busy for a small place. However I was asked if I could wait "a little bit" to get my eyebrows done. Only thing I wanted. Sure, I said, thinking that meant 15 minutes tops. I suppose I should have asked what that meant because 35 minutes later I had to seek out the woman who originally told me "a little bit"....5 more minutes, she said, with no sympathy. 10 minutes later the woman I've been waiting for (apparently) came out and attempted to take someone else before me. The woman told her she should take me first as I was waiting a long time for this ten minute process. She said no! I said I had to go and left immediately. I understand being busy. You should have told me how long the wait was when I walked in and I would have left no harm no foul. But you try to get the cash by wasting my time. Never again. By the way this is the first review I have ever written. I have looked at yelp for other reviews for years. This is the first experience that has inspired me to write something. Not. Good. Everyone has been raving about shellac manicures and I finally caved and went to Melrose Nail to get them done. Price was comparable to the other salons in the area - $30.00 for the manicure. I was disatisfied from the beginning. I chose a french manicure and the shellac was lumpy and clotted in places. The white tip on the top was uneven from nail to nail. The manicurist did the white tip free-hand, but honestly, a child hyped up on sugar could have done a better job. Two days later the manicure began chipping. Shellac is supposed to stay for 2 weeks! I went to another salon and had them redone - much better job. Don't bother with Melrose Nail. read more

Not a good experience here at all. It started out with them taking me 20 min passed go appointment time, and never told me at all that there was going to be a delay. I finally sit down and the lady I had was very nice but it doesn't even look like I got my nails done professionally. On top of that, I had a crack in my nail, expecting her to put dip or glue to hold it down- nope. Nothing was done and less than 24 hours after getting my nails done, it broke off and now I am without polish on that nail. Walked in to a somewhat empty salon, was told they had an opening for a pedicure and would be right w me. Sat in the chair waiting for an hour and 45 mins for a 15 minute pedicure. Very rushed and only mediocre. I would've walked out but my feet were in the water and they kept saying they'd be right w me.
