Wandered down Gresham Street to get away from the usual Hindley crowd. It was quiet for a Friday…read morenight so I had a chance to talk to the bar staff about their specialty item: Moonshine. This was my first experience trying moonshine, funnily enough it doesn't come in those stereotypical hillbilly ceramic jugs and there are actually quite a few varieties. Their moonshine comes imported from interstate or all the way from Tennessee. I spent a few minutes picking different jars off the shelf to have a smell and get a bit of a story for each one, the staff are definitely experts. The flavoured moonshines go well with soda water, but if you want something a bit more creative, Mississippi Moon offers a few mixed moonshine cocktails including my new favourite; Ole Smoky Apple Pie moonshine, apple juice and cinnamon. Bar staff are the friendliest you'll meet on a Friday night on the west end, even had a few games of UNO with some other punters over the bar. Decor has a cosy, modern and 'Southern' vibe, will probably seat around 20 people at a guess. Definitely a highlight of a night in town, will hopefully get another chance to Mississippi Moon.

Best in the state honestly. The menu changes with the seasons and they even do specialised menus for events like during fringe season for example and everything is so tasty. I hired out the venue for my hens party which was very reasonably priced, they tailored a custom menu to my event, have so many options for making your event special like bands, DJs, photography performances even specialised topless waiters. It really is a hidden gem in the hesrt of the city that is an absolute must visit venue. Sip on a cocktail by the pool enjoy a cheese board of plate of chip & Dips, get a coffee or tea on a colder night bundle up with provided blankets by the fireplace! Perfect all year round and a frequent stop for me and friends. Could not give this place more praise! The vinyl records, the great tunes and the old photographs and cameras…read moreare certainly a nostalgic trip, and there are so many gems you can dig up whilst rummaging through the extensive collection of items here. John runs the store, and is one of the coolest store owners I've had the privilege of meeting. Each time I come in he asks what I'm looking for, and then will immediately start playing similar-sounding artists on the turntable based on my answer. His extensive knowledge doesn't end at records - he has a lot of stories to tell on artists, on music, on drugs, on life in general. You can always expect an entertaining conversation upon setting foot in this store. His record collection is also wide and diverse, and there are some real gems hidden in the crates if you care to take your time looking through them. The other chap that runs the photography side of the store is always a great conversationalist, and is always telling the stories behind the old photographs of Adelaide and the city's beginnings. The collection of vintage cameras is impressive, and you can pick up some pretty cool equipment for a bargain.

He's also a veritable fountain of musical knowledge (how could he NOT be?) and will happily share it with you or help you find something obscure you're after. I have a good friend who collects records, and we play a game called "Find the most ridiculous record then play it on repeat." While mostly I shop at garage sales, I like knowing this place is here when I have something specific in mind. Also, the old cameras at the back of the store are like a cluttered museum. Gorgeous to look at, as well as the old photography on the walls. I've been so tempted to buy an old Nikon lens just to see what the pictures are like from my camera, but i can't afford these ones as much as I can't afford new lenses! The atmosphere of this place is so fantastic, it sucks you in even if you resist its charm.

I once went to the Promethean for a friend's 21st. I'd never even noticed that it was there next to…read morethe enormous Asian grocery next door, but I was surprised at how large it was upon entering. I can understand why my friend chose the Promethean for her milestone event, as it makes the perfect party venue. The building used to be a church, a meeting hall, and a theatre before it became a live music venue. Some history, right? It's reinvented, yet old-world look is bold yet easy on the eyes, with rich colours and soft lighting. The bar is an obvious push towards the modern, with sleek white counters stylish decorative lighting. The large variety of beers and wines are relatively cheap, and the bartenders are capable of making some mean cocktails if so requested. I'm not sure how often live shows are held at the Promethean, but it's definitely a place worth checking out if you get the chance.

The Prom is a hidden yet wonderful live music venue and event space whose shiny fluoro green bar…read morewill be an image imprinted onto my brain forever. This venue has a tiny capacity but as a result you barely need to mic up the acts on stage. It is also an old converted church with a carpeted upstairs balcony that can fit 20 people and a half carpet, half wooden dance floor downstairs infront of the stage. For a converted church everything seems to feel cosy with carpeted floors, couches and fairy lighting on the stage. However the place also maintains an element of nightclub with their long fluoro bar. It must look like an odd mismatched space during the daytime! I have seen some wonderful acts here including The Audreys and Pimpin' Horus and the venue both suited dancing having people cosy up on the floor. Never have I seen a whole group of people in a live music venue sit on the floor in front of the stage! They also host wine tasting events, poetry nights and other spectacles during the week so check out their website for upcoming events. One final bit of awesomeness about The Prom...No matter who is performing or what the venue is being hired out for they will always offer up a themed cocktail for the evening based on who is performing. Simple touches that make this place feel comfortable and almost holy!
