I came here looking for a road bike and ended up not purchasing. They had only a few bikes and brand due to covid, sadly. I had seen a women's Felt advertised on Facebook but when I showed up the price was not marked and I was told a different price. After showing Mark the post he couldn't honor the price. My husband was going to get the men's Felt we saw on a sale Facebook post on their page but the price was not honored either. They said they had to raise the price due to Covid. We were ready to buy two bikes but unfortunately it didn't work out. Everything happens for a reason though because Melonbike was the first place we went to and had no knowledge since we were new riders. However, after searching at more places we realized we prefer a different brand that fits our riding interests better. read more

I stopped by during the Covid19 lockdown. The owner allowed 2 customers at a time into the store along as they are wearing a face mask. I stopped in and bought a set of pedals and to look at Scott MTB for my wife. Unfortunately they were closed on Saturday May 16 2020, which is when my wife and I had the time to make a bike purchase. We checked the other locally owned independent bike shops and most of them were sold out. Another bike shop wouldn't allow entry into the store (went sideways real fast.. won't be back, thanks CC for being complete dicks). The proprietor and his staff here REALLY know their products, and they stand behind what they sell. Another nice thing? Melon Bike hands down has a great atmosphere. The guys that work there are very helpful and very knowledgeable on anything you ask them. They carry a wide variety of mountain bikes,road bikes ,time trial bikes and cruisers. From aluminum bikes to carbon fiber, they have at all. I bought my first ride bike from them and I absolutely love it! Since then we have bought mountain bikes from them and another road bike! they were great about ordering bikes for our children! They have a great variety of cycling clothes and any kind of accessory you would possibly need for your bike. They also do maintenance and repairs ! You can't Miss their building on Portland. It is the only limegreen build with what looks like a watermelon on the side of it. Overall it's a great local bike shop! Definitely five stars! Ok so I have mixed feelings about this place while Zack is very knowledgeable about mountain bikes and technical questions there is another gentleman with large ear piercings who is not. Because Zack is the mechanic he is frequently in the back of the shop and "not available" to help or answer questions. It's pretty much pointless to come in unless you know exactly what you want unless Zack is at the front. I have called on many occasions where the phone will ring and ring and no one will answer. I have purchased 3 bikes here to date and while their prices are great the service is lacking. Half the time there is no one at the desk and it takes a few minutes for someone to appear. It's a small store but has a pretty nice selection of road bikes and mountain bikes but the staff need to step up their game a bit. Picked up my Scott on my last trip in OKC, had them tune it and put it back in the box then I flew it back with me. All this wining and dining means I need to get my tail in gear. After poking around at a few of the fancier shops and feeling a little intimidated, I happened to pass MelonBike. If you pass MelonBike, I promise you won't miss it because it is painted like, um, a melon. Like if a concrete building were somehow ALSO a melon. So, I pop in, and find two fellas much more interested in helping me repair and rebuild my old bike than selling me a new one. They were honest about what I needed, told me not to spend big bucks on a dope seat if I wasn't planning on biking to and from Norman on the daily. I'm pretty sure they're hardcore gearhead bikers, but they seem to have a passion for getting average Okies out and about on two wheels. Since the hubby's knees aren't in the best shape and have been wanting to take up something that would be healthy, fun and that we could do together, biking seemed like the perfect fit. Visited a couple of bike stores around the city and came to realize that they, like auto dealerships, tend to be tied to one or two brands. When you aren't sure what you're looking for and are completely uninformed about the brands, this can be problematic - I needed a "Car Max" type of store and fortunately, Melonbike pulled through. Store has a wide variety of brands and types and all sorts of price ranges. The employees are patient, informative and extremely passionate about biking. By talking through where we would be biking and what we considered most important about a bicycle, plus test riding several models and sizes, I settled on a darling Schwinn hybrid and the hubby got a wicked great deal on a GT mountain bike. And they provide 30-day tune-up with each bike purchase. Prices are extremely competitive, plus Melonbike is locally-owned - A win-win all around! I've been a customer of Melon for a few years. While most of the time I do my own repairs and maintenance there are some things that I don't do. On several occasions I have take in wheels for truing and they have always done a flawless job, both fast and very reasonable. A couple of weeks ago I had a major drivetrain failure on my road bike. I took the bike in and when they called they were honest that they could not fix my derailleur. But they had one in stock to replace it. My bike was ready to go the next day. I appreciate a business that is honest and up front with their customers. They did all they could to keep the cost down as well. I think these folks are great. Always my first choice when I need to get work done. I drive past two other local bike shops to get there and have never been disappointed. read more
