This is the worst doctor's office I have ever visited. My questions were not answered during my first appointment, and I was told to wait for insurance approval for procedures. A week later, I was called back to see Dr. Chong, but all she did was briefly look at my ankle and ask me to return the following week. I left puzzled about what she was trying to accomplish. To make matters worse, the front desk charged me an extra 5% "service fee" for using my FSA debit card to pay the copayment. Because of that, my FSA requested an itemized receipt, which I still haven't received. I called the office multiple times, and each time the front desk promised to email it to me by the end of the day. Despite following up daily, I have never received the receipt. This office is unprofessional, unhelpful, and completely frustrating. PLEASE HELP--this has been an awful experience. read more

Dr. Melody Chong is amazing she really knowledgeable and gives wonderful realistic advice that works and helps. She also does orthotics andI live the custom pair of orthotics she made me it feels like I'm walking on clouds and makes a huge difference for my walk and alignment. Run! especially when your limbs are broken. I got referred to her by urgent care, guess her name is on my insurance's referral list. I got squeezed in the next day, which is great. However, the time she spent on me is minimal, she is dismissive when I didn't understand her medical jargon. She flip flop on her treatment plan; from no big deal, come back in a month to in two weeks with possibility of surgery. Her staff is mentally not there too. By the way, they only accept cash or check, not credit cards. I went to another Yelp recommended doctor, and he is the opposite of her. I learned my lesson. read more

I wish I could rate 0 stars. I broke my foot and was unfortunately referred to this office. I will cut to the chase and spare you the long read: - When I got into the exam room, there was blood on the cabinet. Why? Why are her patients spurting blood? She is a podiatrist. - It took three people to get my air cast set up. - I was given no instructions for how to care for my foot except to wear the air cast. - When I came back for a follow-up, Dr. Chong barked, "your foot isn't healing! what have you been doing?" and gave me no advice on how to make it heal faster. - When I went to a new doctor, he said, "Your foot is healing just fine and the other doctor was not reading your X ray accurately." - I paid them the outstanding balance and they are trying to get me to pay it twice, saying they lost the transaction even though it clearly went through according to my statement. - they called my emergency contact to try to collect the payment, which is a HIPAA violation. Emergency contact was on important call and thought I was dying. This woman should not be allowed to practice medicine. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Chong office last week. My visit started out cumbersome but her assistant was very kind and after some minor adjustments got me into the waiting room. I am diabetic and needed the toenail on my right foot removed. Dr. Chong removed it without causing any pain. I was expecting the worse but received painless treatment. She also explained the problem to me in detailed. Since I have fungus there will be additional treatment. Thank you Dr. Chong. I will see you in June. read more

This is the worst doctor experience I've ever had. Long story short, she spent a cold 5 min with me and misdiagnosed me, telling me nothing was really wrong. Turns out, I had a completely torn achilles tendon and needed surgery ASAP. If I listened to Dr. Chong, I could have permanently messed up my ankle for the rest of my life. And im only in my 30s. She ordered X rays, which I already told her I had them in the emergency room. Also x-rays are useless with tendons/ ligaments injuries . I ended up getting an MRI because I pushed my primary Dr bc something felt really wrong. Also she wouldn't give me a splint or a boot or anything bc she wanted my insurance to clear (which would take weeks). When I persisted my way to an orthopedic surgeon, they immediately saw i needed surgery and put me in a boot right away. Worrying about the insurance later because they knew the most important thing was to take care of my body. From what I can tell, she doesn't care about your health and/ or doesn't know what she's doing or it's just about insurance money for her. Regardless, please don't see her. I worry about the people who do and assume all doctors know best. Trust your intuiton, seek alternate options, and be persistent in our messed up Healthcare system. I hope you all get the care you need and heal well! read more

Rudest dr ever. So fking impatient and treated my mom so horrible. Hurts my heart the way she treated my mom. She got no heart. Had a great experience here! Was dealing with an ingrown toenail and Dr Chong and team were able to get me in and address it same day. Very welcoming front office staff followed by a very attentive and professional engagement with the doctor. She walked me through what needed to be done, answered all the questions I had and then performed the procedure as discussed. Even gave me a call at the end of the day to check in and remind me of the proper care going forward until the follow-up visit. Another HUGE bonus is the parking in the area! Ha! No, but seriously, she's a great doctor. read more

I don't often complain, but I was so taken aback by the events that transpired at my father's first visit with Dr. Chong that I feel compelled to say something. My father enrolled in a new Medicare Advantage plan for 2021. As such, we needed to choose a new DPM for him. He had previously been seeing Jasper Lee DPM, who is wonderful. We arrived at the office, and the front staff, Junie, was very nice and accommodating. While waiting in the exam room, my father said he needed to use the restroom, which meant we missed our slot with Dr. Chong. It was fine, we continued to wait in the waiting room. When it was our turn, I expected Dr. Chong to introduce herself, exchange pleasantries. Her impatience showed quickly, and continued as we went over my father's medical history. Finally, she wanted to do some quick tests on his feet. At 87, my father's hearing is not great, and he has dementia. Despite this, he continues to be a gentle, sweet, and cooperative man, so there was no reason for Dr. Chong's behavior. Her impatience escalated and she stormed out of the office in a huff, commanding me to explain to my father what was going on. I asked for clarification. "Do you mean about the treatment, or the tests?" to which she gruffly replied "TELL HIM I'M TRYING TO RUN SOME TESTS ON HIM." After I explained the procedure to my father, things got a little better. He passed the tests, Dr. Chong's demeanor improved, but at the end of the day, the quality of her work and bedside manner were scores behind Dr. Lee's. I understand that everyone has a bad day, but to take it out on us was extremely uncalled for. Both my parents have multiple doctors overseeing their care and I have never had a problem with any of them. read more

I had not thought to see if Dr. Chong had already been reviewed on this site before booking my appointment with her, so shame on me. Concerning her demeanor: She was pleasant, but repeatedly and (I thought at the time) somewhat unnecessarily stated during my appt. that she 'was here to help'. I kept thinking to myself, I know. That's why I am here. And: Why is she saying this again and again? I went in concerning a problem with the big toe of my LEFT foot. I had repeatedly stubbed it and then further compounded the problem by walking on it quite a bit and now it hurt and was affecting my walking. The doctor inspected both feet, then spent an inordinate amount of time concerning herself with the big toe of my RIGHT foot, then pronounced me 'flat-footed'. She then suggested orthodics. For the record: I am not flat-footed. She offered to tape my foot (with no explanation of how that could help my particular issue), told me to 'have an x-ray' (once in the x-ray room was told I would be having x-rays done of both feet--surprise!!) and then told me 'no weight-bearing activities' for the duration. I am very physically active; I told her that I run, skate and hike. I was told appropriate alternatives would be swimming and cycling. My bike shoes, ultimately, exacerbated my toe issue, so that option was quickly out. I never got around to figuring out where to go swimming as I just didn't feel up to it. I left the facililty with no clear understanding of what was wrong with my left toe/toe joint, no clear understanding how the healing process might go, a script for what I ultimately realized was simply something akin to Advil, a copy of the x-rays, a pronounced limp from having had my foot taped and a follow-up appt. to return in 12 days. I cancelled the follow-up appt. a few days later. As I had never seen a podiastrist before this particular visit and as I don't feel terribly comfortable challenging doctors, I didn't act as my own best advocate during the appt., clearly. Questions I should have asked: Why are you bending the toe/concerning yourself with the foot that isn't hurt? How does taping my arch aid in supporting the problem with my toe joint? Dr. Chong, when you say 'take an x-ray' how many x-rays does that actually mean? I would encourage anyone who does see Dr. Chong to ask about what is happening every step, no pun intended, of the way. It may save you from a useless foot taping and excessive x-raying, and, therefore, save you $$$$. PS: I do not, unfortunately, have a good foot doc. rec. for you all, but if anyone had one for me...? read more

Shorty after submitting my application to work at this establishment, she messaged back in such a condescending tone. I thought nothing of it as I wanted to walk into this situation openminded. However, she asked how my Bachelors and background in work would have anything to do with this current position and I informed her that I was currently on the path of getting a further education in nursing. She asked if I would be able to provide my email and phone number and if I would be able to schedule a zoom meeting. I provided the information she asked for and she called shortly after. Once I answered the phone, she immediately asked what or why to the reason as I was going into nursing. I explained my background and covered all the areas in which I believed was very educated and with my responses. She asked if I would be able to work on the days that was listed, on indeed it says Monday-Friday but I was applying for a part time position and that was an option that was listed. I do admit that I didn't fully look into the days of work but the quickly she told me the times and days, almost like I was wasting her time. I informed her that I did have school on Monday and Tuesday at that time and I could have sworn that under her breath she said "thats what I thought". As I was about to suggest that I may be available to work Thursday and Friday she said something in the words of "I don't want to waste my time or your time". I just said "yeah it might not work" and she IMMEDIATELY cut me off and said something among the lines of "good luck with what you're doing" but in the rudest tone. I was taken back and said "oh okay" and she just chuckled and said "sorry" and I just said "thats perfectly fine". I am glad I was not chosen to work here as she seems to be very rude and feels that she is better than everyone. I am starting to think this is the reason as to why she needs another receptionist. It is quite surprising that she works in the medical field as those who work in this field are supposed to be helpful and patient yet this is far from the description as to what she is/was. read more

My kid's "in network" podiatrists could not see my 15 year-old son for TWO MONTHS! Dr. Chong squeezed my son in ON THE SAME DAY WE CALLED. Dr. Chong did not spend time on small talk and was very quick, business only during the initial exam. But, that's how a doctor that squeezes a patient in same day needs to be. So, the 1st visit was short, and surgery to remove the growth under his toenail that was getting bigger by the day was scheduled for 2 weeks out to give time to get insurance approval. Two weeks later, and surgery time. My son was very nervous, but she knew exactly how to handle him, telling him to lie flat so he couldn't see while she numbed the toe, coming back around 10 minutes later and deciding to add more numbing meds because it wasn't quite numb enough. She cut the townail and the growth under the toenail off fairly quickly and kept asking my son question after question so that he had no break to focus on the fact that she was cutting tissue away. I had read yelp reviews that were negative, and almost cancelled, but then realized that none seemed to question her knowledge or abilities as a doctor, just that she seemed to be short or in a hurry, which some interpreted as rude. But, a doctor that's squeezing in patients same day when others are making people wait weeks or months probably must be short during exams. She took enough time, in my opinion, just no extra time. But, she was prompt and running on time for both of our appointments. Not many doctors manage that. I'd rather have a doctor that is efficient like Dr. Chong, running on time than one that spends a lot of time on pleasantries, but makes people wait weeks or months for an appointment and then 30 minutes or an hour after the appointment time to be seen. My son was in pain with a growth pushing his toenail off his toe. Dr. Chong, by seeing him the same day, showed us that my son matters to her. Her efficiency enables heart o get things done. Because of her, my sone will be back to playing basket ball in a couple weeks instead of in 3 months or more if we had to wait for our "in-network" podiatrist. So, would I recommend Dr. Chong? Absolutely! Her office looks like it hasn't been remodeled in quite a while, but it's in good condition and clean. And, frankly, Id rather have and older office with real wood cabinets that a freshly remodeled one with MDF cabinets emitting formaldehyde and other voc's. I've never understood why people replace perfectly good wood cabinets with modern immigration wood. It seems to me that Dr. Chong focuses on what really matters for the patients care and what must happen for her to help all those who need her help. I almost forgot to mention her staff. I don't remember their names, but they were all pleasant and helpful. Dr. Chong reminds me of my grandmother who grew up during the great depression. My grandmother didn't spend time telling people how much she cared about them. She showed them how much she cared by getting things done, generally getting twice as much done as anyone else, like Dr. Chong. Thanks Dr. Chong. You did a great job on my son's toe, and he's so happy that you cared enough to get it done quickly. Being efficient with your time meant you were efficient with mine, too. We were in and out with the growth cut off in about the same time we would have spent in the waiting room at most doctors' offices. I forgot to mention that the quality of the surgery looks good to me (she cut away the growth without leaving the toe mangled - non-expert opinion here, but it looks way better than I expected and the cut looked like a clean cut, like she really knows how to cut cleanly so things heal quickly). I'm so glad we didn't cancel the appointment after reading the negative reviews. Quality of care is excellent. Just know that this doctor starts the exam within a minute of entering the room, and leaves as soon as she done. That's not her being rude as some people seem to feel. That's her being very efficient. Frankly, I'm impressed! read more

Changed to another podiatrist after seeing Dr. Chong twice for plantar wart. Dr. Chong's bedside manner is unpleasant and awkward. Instead of explaining her treatment plan and educating patient about foot care, she asked a bunch of irrelevant questions. After she shaved dead skin from the sole, she wiped it randomly on the exam table and the floor which was unsanitary and gross. Her exam room appeared dirty. read more

Updating my Yelp after the visit and I wish I listened to the rest of the reviews and not even went. First it was on the complete opposite side of town. The waiting room didn't bother me like some people were saying. When I first went in she seemed ok, not super talkative but also engaged in a few sentences... asked me a few questions checked my overall foot with some soft/ hard thing... then tells me she needs authorization to help with ingrown, I had two other questions, I stepped on glass recently and the hole in my foot is like idk not going away and I also have a very high arch that is starting to bother me... I was literally in her room for possibly a minutes time... after she told me I needed to wait for the authorization I stated to ask about the glass.... Right away " schedule another appointment" then I start to ask about my high arch and if I can do anything about thAt.... Again quickly that'll be another appointment, she must have said that like 4 times and then just walked out. Didn't tell me if I need to wait for a call for authorization or if I schedule now... nothing literally poked my foot for 30 seconds and told me another appointment a few times and left... read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr Chong and it's still on-going... First came to get orthotics in July 2019 to correct a high instep. I was told at that time that it would cost $680 if I paid out of pocket, which I told them is what I wanted to do as I have a high deductible. Stupidly I still gave the receptionists my insurance details when they asked. I went back and the orthopedics didn't work, in the end I had to return them 3 times, each time I saw Dr Chong I was charged $130 - even the one time I came in and she said they were fine after 2 mins wiggling them on my foot and as soon as I stood up I was in pain/couldn't walk. Fast forward to now and they've charged my insurance almost $3K and my out-of-pocket is $1310. They refused to reverse the charges from my insurance to let me pay out of pocket and instead of negotiating have sent this to collections. You can't trust this provider to provide a quality product or even be honest about pricing or communicate in good faith. Go elsewhere! read more

I went to Dr. Chong early this year after picking her from a list of podiatrists my doctor had given me. She had a very gruff demeanor (which I can forgive in a good doctor), and didn't want to get close enough to examine me because she was paranoid about covid. Fair enough, I guess, but I was there for a physical issue and she seemed barely willing to proceed with the examination. She sent me to get x-rays from a list of a few places outside the building, the most accessible of which was several miles away. At our next appointment, she looked at the x-ray in some other room that was out of my view, walked into the exam room and told me nothing was wrong with the foot, and that there were no bone spurs. I said, "What about the knob on the top of my foot?" She said, "What knob on top of your foot?" I said, "The thing I came in to have examined?!" Instead of going back to look at the x-ray, she just insisted she hadn't seen anything wrong, and dismissed me. So I had to start the whole treatment process over again at UCSF with another doctor (Dr. Daniel Thuillier, who is absolutely amazing!). As of now, I'm two months into healing from the badly-needed surgery I had at UCSF to remove the very large bone spur from my severely collapsed arch, and fuse the joint. You know, the foot she said was fine, the bone spur she said didn't exist, and then couldn't be arsed to go back to double check the x-ray when it was clear she'd missed something important. The joint was in such bad condition it destabilized my entire foot and ankle while I was still trying to pursue treatment. It didn't need to get that bad, but it did, thanks in large part to this doctor's inaction. read more

I dont know what happened but it took longer for me to fill out that the survey paper then the doctor saw me. I checked my watch incidentally and realized I was there for less 5 minutes. She did a few tests on my foot and asked me all sorts of questions and didnt ask me what my answers would mean. All she said was you have plantar fascisitis ( which I already knew thats why i was there in the first place ) I was expecting treatment or advice. Before i left my 5 minute appointment she was telling me about these heel cups. That i could use temporarily. I thought that is at least I can help. However before i can take them, it turns out i have to pay for it. She never mentioned that. She was going to charge me $85 for a temporary solution. I never have been to a doctor that was this appalling. She had her back to me the whole 5 min except when she checked my feet which was like 15 seconds ( something close to that ). I have never written a yelp review before but after my experience with the doctor and her office, prompted me to write about her fradulent practice. I saw her on 8/19/19 for foot pain. Right after the exam, she tried to sell me the arch support products and told me my feet are flat therefore, I must get the arch support. She is so incompetence with her diagnose. Then she asked me to pay cash for the visit or otherwise if she were to bill the insurance, the bill will be much more. I settled with paying her $203.46. On 1/7/2020, I got an invoice from her office stating I owe $161.02. Her office billed my insurance for the service rendered at $450 when in fact I paid her out of my own pocket at the time of visit. I called the office 2 times and her billing department 5 times and they're still denying that I didn't pay. I have the credit card receipt from the transaction. They refuse to write off the $161.02.
