A different orthopedic surgeon recommended two surgeries to me while Dr mark Co advised i could keep my ankle in a cast and avoid the surgery route. I chose the no surgery route based on his explanation of the pros and cons. It's been four years since we had that conversation. I ride a bike 8-10 hours a week and walk my dog 2-4 hours a week. He was patient, took time to explain what he was seeing in the xrays, dialogued with me about alternative treatments, and had confident opinions on the course of treatment. Appointment accepted, hurrah. We pull my daughter out of school early, my wife leaves a stressful day of work early, show up at the doctor. "i'm sorry we don't take your Cigna (Cigna + Oscar)." me: "why did you ask for our insurance info and then accept our appointment?" Them: "....." What a selfish and lazy way to run business. What we lost - School, Work, and 7 days of trying to get my daughter some treatment. Dr Co, fix your process. Don't ask for the insurance info if you are not going to clear it first. Nice guy, but unhelpful. I came in to see Dr. Co several months ago for what I believed to be plantar fasciitis that I had had for a year. He didn't do much of an examination, and in retrospect seemed to have taken me at my word that it was PF. He told me my calves were tight, to ice and roll my foot on a water bottle and to do calf stretches. Basic stuff. He ended up just giving me a cortisone shot and sending me on my way. Fast forward to yesterday I ended up seeing a different podiatrist who conducted a thorough assessment of my foot, and it turns out I actually have a broken heel. Dr Co is a knowledgeable provider. He said my calves are tight and I needed to stretch them as my main treatment recommendation. I have been stretching for a couple weeks now but my symptoms have not been relieved. Also he only saw me for about 10 minutes. Honestly, I felt a bit rushed especially since I've been dealing with this issue for over a year. Dr Co also recommended customized orthotics. My main issue (and reason for this review) is with the operation of the front desk. The two ladies in the front desk have explicitly told me that my insurance will not be accepted for the orthotics even though Dr Co does indeed accept my insurance. One of their names is Priscilla. I asked them what do patients with my insurance do when they need to get orthotics? Their reply was simply "They either pay out-of-pocket, or don't get the orthotics". That response did not make sense to me because my insurance covers orthotics 100% and the orthotics would cost almost $800 out-of-pocket. The front desk also required that I had to call my insurance myself and request for authorization, which was very unusual for an office to have a patient do. Nonetheless, I complied and have called my insurance at least five times now regarding the matter. My insurance has openly said this is an unusual case and called the office themselves requesting to submit prior authorization. It has gotten to the point where an involuntary grievance case was opened up given how many times I had to call for this issue. The front desk has blatantly been dishonest. They have said they will call me back to address the issue, but never did. They have told my insurance they will submit the prior authorization on two separate occasions, and also never did. I'm trying to be understanding here, but this does not seem like appropriate patient care and my lower extremity continues to hurt. I can't help but wonder if I went to a different podiatrist and gotten a streamlined process of getting orthotics if I would be in less pain now. Also, they are always closed for lunch, but it appears there are two front desk people. From a business standpoint, I imagine staggered lunches with avoid this issue of no one picking up the phone during lunch. Just food for thought. read more

By the time I arrived at their office, I'd driven around in a big loop thinking I knew where I was going and then there was no parking. I was snappish to the staff and to their credit, they were so kind to me over the phone and in person. I hobbled in 10 minutes' late and they took me immediately. Dr. Co expressed surprise I'd been walking around for four months with glass in the ball of my foot (broken crockery from someone's early morning overflowing cereal bowl). I told him it was the discomfort of standing on that foot, washing dishes and pots and pans, that made me overcome my fear and come in. I was certain it was going to hurt digging out glass that'd been calloused over but no: Dr. Co didn't even use a topical agent and in three minutes, I was pain free. I highly recommend this practice; it's good to know an excellent podiatrist whose office is close to home. read more

Dr. Co has no personality. He barely treats you if you have Medicare. He continued to cut my toenails even when I was screaming that he was hurting me. He ordered me a pair of orthotics because he said Medicare would pay for them. I have not been able to make use of them because they are too big. I could cut them but another podiatrist said they were mainly made for sneakers wear which I do not wear. The office is located at the end of the hall from the elevator. The restrooms are located across from the elevators. Quite a hike back and forth from the elevator to the office to get the key to the restroom back down the long hallway to the restroom and then down the long hallway back to the office. The whole atmosphere of the office was unwelcoming. Because I am disabled, I had to take taxis to and from my appointments. Dr. Co's waiting room was very nice, done in the Art Deco Style. I would not recommend going to Dr. Co's office for podiatry treatments. read more

I feel incredibly fortunate to have met Dr. Co. I broke my foot and was told by another foot MD I would absolutely need surgery. When I came to Dr. Co he assured me that I would not need surgery, gave me the exact steps I needed to take to heal my foot, and he was right. When I came back 2 weeks later, my fracture was healing up well. No need for surgery! Dr Co is smart and thoughtful. He determined that I did not need surgery based not just on my foot x-rays, but on the way in which I fell and how my foot looked to him. He took the time to understand my specific situation. The doctor looked at me for less than 10 minutes, gave me some brochures and pamphlets and sent me on my way. It didn't really alleviate any of my feet problems, and all they recommended was to get custom insoles that would, surprise, cost an additional hefty hundreds of dollars. Podiatrists tend to prescribe expensive custom insoles to EVERYBODY regardless if you really need it or not or if the marginal benefit is worth it. I received an atrocious bill for $155 (AFTER insurance, before insurance is $195) a couple days later in the mail randomly for my less than 10 minute visit. I was never told how much the visit would cost and I wish your office was more upfront about that, instead, I was ushered in and out. It's clear to me that your practice, do not care about the wellness of people but act purely in the pursuit of profit. I will never be visiting this facility again and will not be recommending it to my friends. Don't waste your money or time, and I wish I read some of the other yelp reviews before making that $200 mistake. read more

I visited Dr.Co a couple months ago. I have a problem with my foot, which was a simple small pain that got more severe by time depends on my shoes and activities I do. I went to check what was wrong, how to fix it and I was also nervous about possible bill at the end of my visit . Dr.Co welcomed me on time with a kind smile. He explained me what is wrong, what triggers my problem, and what are the solutions I can fallow. He even showed me a couple exercises to reduce the problem. I even asked him information about my other feet problems and he explained me and gave me prices for them. I wish every doctor would be as nice and helpful as he is. I will visit them back and fix all my issues in once ! Prices are very reasonable for a student like I am , and I was able to make appointment in the same week ! read more

Convenient office inside a hospital, so you can park in their garage. Think I paid $8 for an hour. As requested, I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment so I could fill out paperwork. After that the wait was just a few minutes, so fast! I went in for laser treatment of my big toes that I had been putting off for sometime (no time with work and 2 young kids). It's a 3 step treatment (every 2 months) and within 6-12 months I'm hoping to see marked improvement. It was a bit uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought it would be, Dr. Co did a great job talking me through it and distracting me. He was upfront and let me know the costs (insurance doesn't cover this treatment) and provided information on how I can prevent this from happening again. Really happy and will be providing updates as my treatments progress. read more

Would not recommend this person if you like knowing what's going on while you're treated. If you're happy just blindly taking directions from a machine, save yourself some money and Google your condition! Was referred by my primary care physician after an ankle injury that had been initially diagnosed as mild persisted for longer than expected. By this point I already knew my ankle wasn't recovering as it was supposed to for a mild injury so something must be up. However, the doctor proceeded to completely ignore what I said and treated me as if my injury was the product of my imagination! He came in, looked at my foot for a few seconds, and started blurting out a bunch of different things to do that would probably have come up had I Googled "what to do about sprained ankle". At no point did I feel like I was being treated individually, he was clearly just prescribing some common cure he throws at everybody. This would actually have been fine if he hadn't been in a huge rush and took some time to explain what could have happened, how the course of treatment usually goes, why and when I should do stuff. Hell, he could've just said "I still don't think you have anything serious, let's just keep trying this for now". But nope, nothing! The way it played out, I didn't even remember everything I "was supposed to do" by the time he stopped saying stuff. He did show me how to wrap it (gently!) every night, and then said I should do some weird 45 minute long icing routine, because why not. No mention of how often or when I should do it. Then like that, he was gone, saying to come back in two weeks so he could bill my insurance more. No, thanks! To top it all off, a nurse (?) came in to hand me my "brace"(-ish... thing) I had to wear every day for the next two weeks. She offered to show me how to put it on, and proceeded to wrap it very tightly! Since I was instructed to wrap my ankle gently at night, I asked her if it's supposed to be tight or not. Her answer? "Oh, if you don't like it you don't have to wear it. I can take it back." Completely unwarranted and unprofessional! STAY AWAY! read more

First off he arrived late, the girls up front were horsing around, and he was not engaged during the entire appointment. He was rushed and I was asking all the questions. There was no dialogue, no encouragement and no assistance on ways to get better. Some people get by doing the bare minimum and Dr. Co is one of them. I am disappointed I wasted an entire afternoon traveling to see this "foot specialist". Western medicine in general is a let down and there are far better self help alternatives out there. Alejandro, Franzetta and Nancy B. reviews are accurate. This doctor would like to push for expensive orthotics made by northwest lab which costs $600 a pair. Other great SF podiatrists charge less than $600 for orthotics and orthotics made by northwest lab. In my appointments with this doctor, I told him about my daily feet ankle pain. My feet situation is severe. After wearing these expensive orthotics and after many modifications to these orthotics( sending them back to the lab), my feet ankle were still in pain, daily. I don't he listens to pain complaints. Since my feet were in painful agony, I took my orthotics to 4 different podiatrists and they all told me that these orthotics do not properly provide the support needed for my feet condition. Dr. Co's prescription was not good and my feet were getting the run around. Since, these orthotics are useless, I contacted Dr. Co to inquire about a partial refund. He was quick to reply about not giving refunds and not hearing about pain feedback even though he was clearly told about the pain in our appointments. He had many opportunities to make correct orthotics for me but it never happened. I do not feel this doctor is trustworthy and competent. The office staff are nice. I am currently working with a new podiatrist and wearing correctly made orthotics for my feet situation. I am proudly never returning back to this office. read more

Disorganized admin department. After a first intake appointment, I was told to wait for a callback to schedule my orthotics assessment while they were verifying coverage with my insurance. However, the callback never came. I chased four times: each time they had no record of the previous conversation, and each time I had to provide all the details all over again. I eventually gave up and never heard from them again - apart from a remarkably speedy invoice... From the one appointment I had with Dr. Co, he seemed capable but sent me away with some very simplistic solutions for my complex chronic ankle injury. Worst Podiatrists I have ever come in contact with. First he was 25 minutes late, no apology...nothing. Second he did not listen to one word I said...instead he kept pushing me to go to some specialty shoe store and get inserts that I know will not fix my rather complicated feet. I ask about the pain in my toe joint, I asked about the nerve pain specifically in one toe, no comment on the bunion on my foot, the calluses and no response to any of the things that concerned except go but these expensive orthotics and come back and see him...I think not. After waiting almost a half an hour, he spent less than 10 minutes and the majority of that time was shoving a piece of paper at me and telling me to go spend money on some expensive shoes and inserts. I was extremely pleased with Dr. Co and the care he provided to me and my family. I broke my leg this past summer and he saw me immediately and largely thanks to him I healed very fast and was able to work and travel while healing my broken fibula. 7/1/19 Had a very rushed, uncaring attitude, worsened when I told him I could not afford the $1100 laser treatment for toenail fungus.
