He took the time to get into the nitty gritty of my post Lapidus Bunionectomy journey and gave me a clear step-by-step path of how to proceed in my healing. He included detailed information on orthotics, healing practices to be more consistent with, a well-laid path for building up to running and suggested a CT scan to rule out any non-union at my incision site or any hardware issues that my X-rays or MRI might not have detected. He also took the time to thoughtfully and sensitively let me know I might not be the best candidate for custom orthotics. I ended the call feeling incredibly heard, honored and taken care of. Be very careful with Dr. Segler. He is way more into marketing than treatment and will focus on extracting the most cash from you than focusing on your improvement. I began laser treatment on my nails with him and as many of those treatments showed no improvement he performed total nail avulsion (ripped nails out). Now my nails are completely ruined for life. I spent almost $2k with him and every time I see my nails I fully regret the day I met him. I would have been much better off had I not done anything to my nails. Don't be lured with his marketing and web site. Do your own research. Laser treatment doesn't work for most people - save your money. And, certainly don't have anyone remove nails unless it is causing pain or other issues. At the of the day, be wary of fast-talking doctors. This doctor is more interested in his own fitness, podcasts and buying real estate (just ask him or do a search online first). I'm sure he does well with older ladies out there who need someone to talk to, but now my nails are 90% worse than when I started. He really is a doc on the run. I had 6 consolations with Doc On The Run with the aim of returning to running following some long term injuries . At the time he offered support and insight with a view to optimising healing. We covered insightful topics like pain management (journaling) and optimisation of healing (collagen , vit C etc). Shoe choices etc. Despite this i must give a 1 out 5 rating for the following reasons: 1) recommending a high risk treatment without covering the risks or discussing safer options. 2) no recommendation for after care rehab and strengthening following use of a tall fracture walking boot. 3) Extreme life change outcomes e.g. limited mobility, chronic pain, insomnia, serious mental health issues, inability to work, nerve damage, family breakdown. 4) no response to emails. I wish i did not have to write this review but i feel others should know risks of using Doc On The Run via an online platform What happened - During the consultation period i developed a plantar plate injury near my big toe (1st MTP joint) and it was suggested I try a tall fracture walking boot to accelerate healing. Initial results were positive for the ligament tear. - However wearing a tall fracture for 19 days was enough time for my walking gait to change significantly and this needed rehab and strengthening to reverse. I was not informed of that and I was completely unaware. - Around 1-2 months later i developed significant and irreversible fat pad atrophy and displacement all over the ball of foot and this gets worse by the week. - additionally the altered gait has led to structural issues across my foot, ankle and knees. - if this wasn't bad enough, the fat pad atrophy has exposed nerves in my foot and i now have early stages of neuropathy (nerve pain/damage), causing wider issue with sleep and mental health. As a result of this i can no longer walk any distance without pain and I have also developed severe depression and insomnia. Day to day life is very challenging and I am very afraid for what condition my foot will be in the years to come. This is likely to progressively deteriorate at a faster rate than than the normal ageing process. My dreams of running or playing sport are gone. Friends and family relationships have all broken down. This was all unnecessary and could have been avoided either using safer methods (stiff soled shoe and taping) or managing the risks of wearing a fracture walking boot (proper rehab and strengthening). Dr Segler's sharing knowledge regarding footwear & the dynamics of the foot were certainly helpful, however, treatment was largely ineffective as the diagnosis was incomplete. A couple of weeks after my last visit with Dr Segler, an appt. with another podiatrist determined that the symptoms I had been experiencing were what appeared to CRPS (would that they had been observed straightaway as early detection aids in getting a handle on the condition) & a subsequent MRI showed the main issue at hand. Home visits are a bonus when one isn't ambulatory. Dr. Segler doesn't work with insurance companies; patients pay out-of-pocket. What first appealed to me about working with Dr. Segler for my foot injury was his expertise. Who doesn't want to work with a top doc in their field? He is certainly THE expert on foot injuries, but what made me so grateful to have worked with him for my injury was his dedication and relentless pursuit to help me continue running while managing my injury in a smart and effective way. His self-paced course was a great start for me, but I was ultimately still perplexed about my injury. He committed to following through on the goal of the course which was to help return me to running while treating the injury. Because I knew he was truly invested to get me to the end goal, I felt I could trust him fully. Unlike a traditional medical model with fee-for-service, I knew that he had my best interest at heart. I googled "mobile podiatrist", to care for my Mom's feet and trim her overgrown toenails. Doc on the Run came up and I gave the number a call. Dr. Christopher Segler answered the phone and listened quietly, as I explained my Mom's needs. (Mom's previous "caregiver" was neglectful, never cared for her feet and never told me that her toenails were way overgrown). As Mom has Dementia and is fully bedridden, I can't take her to a doctor; so we needed someone to make a "House call". I explained mom's situation and even though Dr Segler didn't normally travel out that far, (from SF to Modesto), he agreed to drive out to see her. He was on time and adhered to the Covid protocols of the Board and Care, where mom lives. Mom is usually fearful of new people and gets agitated quickly. However, Dr Segler was so great with her, that she hardly said a word! He explained what he was doing and told me what I should do in the following days. Okay, Dr. Segler is hands down the BEST doctor I've ever had. I've been running since I was 5 years old and I'm in my 40s now, so you can only imagine that I've had... well... a few "snafus" (for lack of a better term) along the way. I first came across Dr. Segler some 8 years ago after a very terrible injury that involved a cortisone shot gone wrong (from a different Podiatrist). The doctor administering the shot hit a nerve and left me in excrutiating pain. I literally left that appointment on crutches... This was the beginning of a series of other resulting complications and LOTS of confusion, questions, and desperation. I was running (okay, hobbling... def not running) around SF from appointment to appointment trying to get the help and support I needed, which was not easy given how un-ADA friendly SF is. Every doctor was just telling me to sit on the couch and chill and wait it out. If you're a runner or die-hard athlete who doesn't want to atrophy or is addicted to and passionate about your active lifestyle, you know this isn't an option. Enter Dr. Segler. My savior! He did a house visit, recommended ways I could still be active and maintain strength while not sacrificing the pace of my recovery. He recommended some water running, the alter G to help me pace properly back into running, weights, etc. He heard me and saw me. I felt so supported. No joke, he saved my sanity and gave me hope and got me back to running! The second time I needed Dr. Segler was about 2.5 years ago. I had been in Germany and was riding a bike and my wheel got stuck between cobblestones (you can't make this sh*t up) and I bailed. In the process, the peddle gashed my shin to the bone. I got stitches there, but upon my return, I called Dr. Segler to come to the rescue. And rescue he did come!!! Again, with tips and tricks and suggestions to keep me moving while also supporting the healing process. He also came back to remove the stitches! Home service is a game-changer when it's hard to navigate the city. The third time... (told you I had snafu's) was 2 weeks ago. I was on my way to bed and kicked the heck out of something on the way and broke my toe. I knew it right away. We've all had bad stubs. This was different. I went to bed and called Dr. Segler in the morning. I was already dreading waiting in the emergency room for an x-ray, but boom. He sent me an order for a nearby radiologist and I had the images within a few hours. We jumped on a zoom call later that afternoon and we dorked out on the images. Yet again, full of great advice and a get-better-soon plan. The best part is that he is great at explaining things. He doesn't doctor-splain! He lets you ask questions ad nauseam and he never gets impatient. In sum, this man goes ABOVE & BEYOND to support you mentally and physically in your recovery. He is a ray of sunshine on a day or injury that feels like doomsday. Words don't do justice for how thankful I am for Dr. Segler and his medical expertise and personal thoughtfulness and kindness. Doc came out to help me to clip my toe nails so to prevent ingrowns. The way he cut them was extremely short, where you can see the imprint of where the nail should be.AND, rounded into The very corners of the nails. When I asked him why he did this he said it was to prevent the corners from wedging inside- very aloof. He never even called back to see how I was doing. I felt a very cold shoulder after he left- and it's confusing because he was very pleasant and seemed very experienced. I'm still unsure why he would set up my toes to get ingrowns, knowing my hx. Anyhow, you'll find that most reliable medical advice online indicates that this practice of both clipping nails too short and rounded is very dangerous. read more

My son badly injured his foot and Dr. Segler came to the house and patiently explained the treatment and fitted him for a boot. I was pleased with his attention. I paid the bill and sent him the form to get reimbursed by insurance. After waiting a month and a half, Dr. Segler filled out his section and mailed in the form. It came back to me a few days later denied because he didn't indicate on the form that it was an emergency. The insurance company tried to call him, but his mailbox is full so they couldn't leave a message. I sent him an email...silence. It seems once he gets paid, Dr. Segler can't be bothered any further. If you want to get reimbursed by your insurance, expect problems despite what it says below on his website: Insurance companies (especially PPO plans) will often reimburse a large portion of house call services as an "out-of-network" provider. At the conclusion of your visit, we will provide you with a complete itemization of all charges that you paid for in a format known as a "superbill." The superbill will outline all of the required diagnosis codes (called ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes) and procedure codes (called CPT codes). With these codes that we provide for you, the insurance company will be able to process the insurance claim that you submit to them. read more

I had a horrible mosaic wart on my wart for almost 8 years! I tried everything: apple cider vinegar, duct tape, chemical peels, burning, freezing, doctor cut it out, mediplast pads...I honestly gave up the last two years. Then I googled a last resort method (which should have been my first method, I wasted so much money on this wart over the years) it's called Cantharidin and it's basically beetle juice that is applied to skin and causes a blister. Dr. Segler knew exactly what I was talking about! It took two treatments unfortunately, this was one stubborn wart. It's fully healed now, all I have is a small scar from the many years it was in my foot. Maybe it'll go away in time, but I'm honestly 100% satisfied this is off my foot. I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with this wart! I will say this: the blister is no joke. I would not recommend doing this in summer vacation months like I did. I spent 4 days sitting in bed, I'm a hairstylist and it was too painful to stand all day on my feet. But if you had a desk job maybe return at day 3. I am living in Italy and consulted Dr. Segler because the 3 orthopedists I have seen here have not been able to resolve my issue. Before my call ($185 skype), I sent Dr. Segler copies of my MRI and X-ray data-discs and he went through them, taking screen shots for me. We scheduled a 1 hour session and we went overtime because he was so thorough in explaining, as he could see I appreciated understanding my a condition. I enjoyed the conversation, Dr. Segler is nice guy, knowledgeable, and helps you understand the causal mechanisms so you can get involved healing yourself. It is a bit early to say whether his program will help me (I just started 3 days ago), but I have more confidence in him than I have had in my previous 3 orthopedists. His advice is not generic. I live overseas and was basically went looking for the best person I could find that would do remote skype appointments. I think we are just starting to get into the era of doctor visits via the internet. We are so used to going to our local doctor and then maybe getting referred to the 'best doctor in the region.' With skype we now have the ability to find the 'best doctors in the world.' Look no further. So different from any doctor I've ever worked with. I called his number and he actually picked up the phone himself. Was able to very accurately assess what my current problems were from an MRI I sent him. Very patient and helpful going through all the minutia of my problem; specifically what got me into this problem and how I can get out of it. I am so used to spending 20 minutes with a doctors that are just to get to the next patient, that spending over an hour and a half with Dr. Segler felt great. I've been living with PTTD for about a year and felt like I was running out of options. There is no magic bullet, but it was so nice to hear concisely what all of my options are. He is the 4th doctor I've seen for this problem and by far the most thorough and well versed. His drawings and models of the foot went a long way for me to wrap my head around the problem. Lastly the cost is very reasonable. I've easily paid twice as much for a small fraction of the information that I received. If I have one regret, it's that I didn't find him a year ago. read more

It's been a while, but I've been meaning to write a review for quite some time. Dr. Segler is pretty awesome. He came by to the house in San Mateo from the city pretty quickly as I had an emergency which needed to be treated right away. Let's just say this was something that's very painful in my big toe. He was only supposed to be with me for an hour but was there longer because that is what was needed. He was very caring, very friendly, and very professional all at the same time. I've never had an experience with a doctor as warm as Dr. Segler is. He was just very pleasant to be around and explained in great detail what was the issue. He talks a bit, sure, but I much rather have much more information than not enough information. I will also in the near future, go to him for a new treatment for treating my partially ruptured achilles. read more

I met Christopher at the top of Alpine dam with friends on a long bike ride, and I learned this triathlete/ironman/cyclist was also a podiatrist. I've been suffering from what you might call "hot foot" and called Chris for a diagnosis. He made a house call, and spent more than one hour (we would have talked longer if not for my own schedule restraint) and he checked out all my gear--running and cycling shoes, inserts, etc. He made a really helpful diagram of my foot, and based on his diagnosis, I now understand my pain and have a roadmap to some solutions. I feel empowered and hopeful! Dr. Segler was a lifesaver for my 88 year old Mom who needed care for her toenail that she ripped out of her bed & was bleeding all over the place. Since she was so frail there was no way she could go to the doctors office. I called & got back to me in a timely manner. He came out and took care of the wound & trimmed her nails as well. I had a foot injury in a car accident. After 5 months, orthodics, a walking boot, a cast and a giant rubber shoe my arch was still swollen and I was still not able to walk without a limp or pain. I found Doc on the Run on the interenet while researching my symptoms. He had a list of the symptoms for a ruptured fascia that fit all my symptoms.. and I could CALL him for a free consult! He answered the phone talked to me and said he could see me later in the week when he was In Los Angeles. He spent 2 hours at my place going over the MRI, all my symptoms and xrays. I have never seen a dr for more than a few min in my life. Anyway - he diagnosed a partial rupture and prescribed the proper care. Dr. Segler came out to my house to perform a laser procedure for my toe nail fungus. The whole time he explained what he was doing. The whole treatment took about 2.5 hours which went by very fast. I injured my achilles tendon while running and it hurt so bad that I decided to call a doctor (I usually never go to a doctor haha) the next day. Dr. Segler was really great. I had an appointment with him on that day and he really took his time to explain everything. I'm a runner who competes in the PA/USATF. I injured my achilles (tendinitis) last summer and needed to recover before the start of the cross country season (1st week of Sept). This injury had been bothering me chronically for the last year and a half, impairing my training and in some occasions, forcing me to drop out during races. I called Dr Segler following a drop out from a local race last July. My achilles was very painful and I had difficulty walking. I'm generally a point-scorer for the team (top 5 runners) so my return to competition was much anticipated by my teammates. Dr Segler came to my house and assessed my injury, explained what type of tendinitis I had and gave me a number of options and treatments (I think 12 in total). Most importantly for me, Dr Segler understood my need to not become totally out of shape before the XC season. Since he is a triathlete himself, he knows what competition means, the efforts you've put into your training, and the satisfaction of a good race. For my type of injury, most doctors would simply recommend to (heavily) use NSAIDs, rest and not run at all for a number of weeks. Dr Segler gave me additional options to maintain a minimum level of fitness while my tendon was recovering. I followed his advice to the letter and got better in a few weeks, while maintaining some training. I returned to competition on Aug 27th, ran many of this year's XC races, and contributed to my team achieving 4th place at the PA/USATF 2011 XC Grand Prix. More recently I completed a half and full marathon part of the PA/USATF road racing Grand Prix and was part of the "A" scoring team. A great feeling ! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Segler. I found him after I had already been seeing a Podiatrist for 3 weeks for a metatarsal stress fracture in my foot. I just wasn't feeling great about the care I was getting. It was really nice to talk to a Doctor who was also a fellow runner and someone who understood my eagerness to get better as quickly as possible so I could get moving again. Dr. Segler came to my house and spent over 2 hours looking at my xrays, checking out my foot and giving me advice. We discussed barefoot running, minimalist shoes and my love of Vibram's. He really seemed to understand the changes these types of shoes create in your running gait. I felt like I got some great info & advice (my prior Podiatrist didn't know much about this type of running). I felt that I got a lot of attention, a very good treatment plan, and information that will help me once I am up & moving like normal again. Treatment: compression stockings, contrast foot baths, a very sexy (ha, ha) black soft leg cast (that I named Igor) and lots of sitting on my butt. 2 weeks later I am still wearing the cast, but moving a bit more and feeling better. I wish there was more stars to award. I can not say enough about Dr Segler and his personalized service! He throughly explained my condition, options and the procedure. He has a warm and friendly bedside manner. Really listened and engaged- taking the time to know me beyond what a typical doctor does. It sounds like Dr. Segler is a great doctor, based on his other reviews, which is why I called him. But if you have a difficult-to-treat condition: PREPARE TO WASTE A BUNCH OF TIME BEING IGNORED AND GIVEN THE RUNAROUND BY DR. SEGLER. That's what I felt happened to me. Here are the details (highlights in all caps): I CALLED DR. SEGLER. He picked up the phone. I told him I had received laser treatment from another doctor for toenail fungus, and the treatment failed. Dr. Segler explained that the laser he uses is significantly more powerful than the laser my previous doctor used. He also said that in the years he's been using the laser, he's had only three patients require re-treatment. I told him I wanted to schedule an appointment. He said I should email him a photo of the toenail. HE SAID HE'D CALL ME BACK LATER THAT DAY. I emailed him the photo five minutes after we hung up the phone. THEN I WAITED THREE DAYS. HE NEVER CALLED. Instead, three days later after our initial contact, he emailed me: "Based on our conversation it sounds like you are already under the care and treatment of your condition with another physician. I recommend you continue to seek the advice and direction of your current treating physician." I EMAILED BACK: "I was under the care and treatment of my condition with another physician, but I am no longer [sic] that physician. I would like to be treated by you. Could you please give me a call, so we can discuss?" THEN I WAITED TEN DAYS. HE NEVER REPLIED. SO I CALLED AGAIN, AND LEFT HIM A FRIENDLY VOICEMAIL: I said I supposed he was busy or didn't receive my email, but as I wrote, I am no longer under the care of a physician, so could he please call me back to discuss? THEN I WAITED ELEVEN DAYS. HE NEVER REPLIED. During that time, the fungus spread to a second toenail. SO I LEFT HIM ANOTHER FRIENDLY VOICEMAIL: I said I wanted to schedule an appointment, and asked him to please call me back. HE CALLED ME BACK LATER THAT DAY. I told him my fungus was getting worse, and I'd really like to schedule an appointment with him. HE SAID HE'D CHECK HIS SCHEDULE AND CALL ME BACK. I WAITED 24 HOURS. HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK. SO I SUBMITTED AN APPOINTMENT REQUEST ON HIS WEBSITE. AN HOUR LATER, HE CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT REQUEST, AND EMAILED ME BACK: "We have received your online request for an appointment. However recalling our previous conversation, you had been treated by another physician for this condition. I recommend that you follow up with that physician for treatment." I found his email to be rather odd, because I had explained both in a prior email and a prior voicemail that I was no longer under the care of another physician. AN HOUR LATER, I EMAILED BACK: "Yes, I had been treated for this condition by another doctor. However, I did follow up with that doctor, about a year ago, and there was nothing else he could offer me. I haven't been treated for my condition since. I would really like to be treated by you, because you explained to me that you use a different type of laser than that doctor, because I was impressed by your yelp reviews and explanation of your laser's effectiveness on the phone, and because I followed up with that doctor, to no avail. Therefore, could we please keep the appointment I requested for Thursday at 9? I feel desperate for your help." I then saw on his website that the appointment that I had requested was no longer available, and there was only one appointment left that was eligible for a discount, so: I THEN SUBMITTED AN ONLINE APPOINTMENT REQUEST FOR A DIFFERENT TIME. THE NEXT MORNING, HE CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT REQUEST, WITHOUT EXPLANATION. I IMMEDIATELY EMAILED HIM: "I notice that you cancelled my appointment request for this Friday. Could you please tell me why?" HE HASN'T REPLIED. WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? WHY WOULD SUCH AN EXCELLENT-SEEMING DOCTOR IGNORE MULTIPLE MESSAGES AND REFUSE TO SEE ME? Is it because he doesn't want to interfere with another doctor's treatment? Maybe that was his initial reason, but since I explained multiple times that I'm no longer being treated by another doctor, and that that doctor had nothing else to offer, that can't be the final explanation. HERE'S MY GUESS AS TO WHY DR. SEGLER TREATED ME THIS WAY: Since the first laser treatment failed, I'm guessing he was concerned that his laser treatment might fail, and I might write a negative Yelp review as a result. In my second-to-last email, I told him that I understood that lasers aren't 100% effective, and I wouldn't write a negative review if it failed, but by that point, he seemed to have already written me off. Ironically, I wouldn't have written a negative review, had he just been direct and responsive with me upfront, instead of giving me the runaround. I still want to be treated by him, due to his stellar track record, but unfortunately, he seems to be more concerned with maintaining his track record, than helping a patient in need. read more
