I've gone to Dr. Hershman for years. My first major experience was a bunion surgery and alignment of a hammer toe. It was a complete failure. The toe was worse after he performed the surgery than before: he said this sometimes happened, and I believed him. I was somewhat satisfied with his subsequent services UNTIL he began trimming my toenails. Once that began, I started to suffer from ingrown toenails, excruciatingly painful at that. I couldn't understand why they happened almost every other month. Having read some of the other reviews here, I actually believe he was trimming the toenails in such a way (not straight across, but rounded and close to the toe itself) that the ultimate result would be an ingrown toenail which he would have to "surgically" remove. Finally he performed this "procedure" which theoretically would mean no more ingrowns, but again, the procedure was a failure. The pain was so intense, I kept going back and back asking why the pain was so bad when theoretically the toenail could not become ingrown because of his "surgery."
He became very arrogant and told me the pain was "neuropathic" from a series of back surgeries. I lived for months in agony, believing this incompetent moron, who cares more about detailing his escapades and vacations than truly examining the foot and practicing his profession.
Finally, in New York City recently, I just couldn't stand it any longer. I happened upon the Chelsea Foot Care Clinic. The doctor immediately noted that there was swelling, redness and an infection. He numbed the foot and pulled out TWO HUGE ingrown nails, from the right and left sides of my toe. Both were longer than 1/2". He said that this had to have been going on for months to be this bad.
I am considering suing this imbecile for malpractice. I can't begin to tell you how much severe pain I endured while entrusting my health to this quack. Run, don't walk, away from this man. No wonder all the reviews are so bad. He is NOT a doctor.
After writing this review, and having read several others, I must add something. I am really surprised that so many have negative comments about the front office staff. One of the reasons I continued going to Dr. Hershman for so many years was because I enjoyed Sharon, who has been with him since I first started going. I think people may misunderstand her New York style of humor. But she is a really sweet lady (with a wicked sense of humor) and has really helped to get me in even when the doctor was overbooked. She listens to the patients and knows when they need to be seen ASAP. The same goes for Carina, the newest addition to the staff -- also a sweetheart who has learned how to be a good front office person from Sharon. I'm going to miss these two ladies. Carina even always made sure I had a view office!!!!! read more
