[overdue review] I saw Dr Grogan for the first time last year following a surprise slip on a wet rock that resulted in a bruised foot. I was concerned I had broken something, but fortunately not. During my visit, I was struck with Dr Grogan's pleasant personality, knowledge and integrity. What *really* impressed me was his comment re: my orthotics (old, but still in great shape). He was thoughtful and honest about the fact that: 1. they don't need replacing (which he would $ benefit from), 2. it's not ethical to create more unnecessary plastic waste. What a gem! read more

Copying my review from the other listing, as there appears to be two (Dr. Grogan sees patients at two locations). Dr. Grogan is amazing! I found him on Google when I was looking for a plantar wart specialist. After reading his stellar Yelp reviews, I knew he was as the guy to visit, and I was not disappointed! I made back to back appointments for both me and my husband, since it's a bit of a drive from us, and Dr. Grogan actually saw us together. My husband had two plantar warts for years that he had seen many doctors for and had many painful procedures on. He finally resorted to duct taping them daily for the last couple years. I had something going on with my foot that I thought might be a plantar wart but wasn't sure. It was very painful! Dr. Grogan was the first doctor that was able to explain all about the plantar warts and treatments to my husband. After looking at it and shaving the callus down a bit, he said that a previous doctor had cut too deep, and that my husband no longer had a wart on either foot! He was duct taping for nothing! He also explained to my husband that he didn't have much padding on the ball of his foot and that may cause him pain over time. He talked about options for dealing with it. Extremely knowledgeable and didn't try to push any product/treatment at all. Just laid it all out. As for my foot, it turned out I had stepped on something and it was embedded. He removed it quickly and painlessly and I my foot immediately felt better. He also looked at my calluses from running (big toe/heel) and I was telling him a previous podiatrist had shaved it down and it really hurt. He said they should not have done that and told me all about what it was and why shaving it down is bad. Dr. Grogan is so thorough and passionate about his work; you can tell just by how he explains everything. Look no further, Dr. Grogan is the doctor you've been looking for! I had a plantar wart under my right ring toe for over 20 years that I've had freezed off, dug out, lasered, cut off, injected with steroids, duct taped, and been sent home with pharmaceutical-grade topical creams and acids, and nothing worked. It grew back every time and seemed to get worse and more painful over these last few years. I saw over 15 different specialists including podiatrists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and primary care doctors and the last podiatrist I saw had said the only option was surgery to remove the wart followed by a second surgery that I'd have to schedule myself with a plastic surgeon to remove all the scar tissue that had built up over the years of prodding this thing. I thought I'd get one more opinion before the surgery and I'm so glad I did. In came Dr. Grogan! (Another review raved about how he's somewhat of a wart guru, and that he is.) He was extremely kind, knowledgeable and suggested a treatment I hadn't tried before of applying beetle wing juice to the site and also a topical cream, typically prescribed to skin cancer patients, to ensure we attacked the core effectively. I worked with him on a 5x over the course of 2.5 months and the wart and scar tissue is gone! So grateful to have found Dr. Grogan and would 100% recommend him to anyone. Although a friendly doctor, the quality of care from the staff to Dr. Grogan was just abysmal! I have seen Dr. Grogan before, but this past visit was the last one. I have ongoing problems with a few foot conditions that require require fairly regular maintenance. My most recent visit was hurried and the work was sloppy. Indeed, the day after my visit, l was in so much pain that l could barely walk! l reached out to the office to try to come in on an urgent basis as l was meant to be taking my first vacation in five years. Sadly, the office staff could have cared less. The soonest they would offer me a quick appointment was a week away. l am in too much pain to wait. Indeed, I left Grogan a message via MyChart and still, a week later, have had zero response from him! Not okay or professional! l had to see another provider who tried in earnest to help, but unfortunately, Dr. Grogan was so aggressive in his treatment that there was only so much that could be done. l have had to cancel my trip as a consequence of such neglect. Dr Grogan is truly a smart, humorous professional! I've seen him twice about ankle/foot issues and he's always been able to come up with a treatment plan and answer all my questions. I really like his philosophy that he wants to treat and create long term habits that will benefit me in the future vs leaning on just tools and insoles for support and comfort. Long term solution vs quick fixes. I've never had a problem making an appointment and just call the office at least one week in advance. I've been able to see him week of too! I guess I got too comfortable during Covid stay at home and started walking around the yard barefoot. Well I ended up with painful plantar warts, so just don't do it! I tried otc wart removers but they didn't go away. I actually didn't want to see a doctor since I figured he/she would pull out a scalpel to dig it out and I didn't want anything to do with that. After enduring weeks of pain, I decided it was time to see a podiatrist. Checking reviews here on Yelp, It looked like many podiatrists cater to athletes and their injuries. I didn't want my plantar warts to be given second rate seriousness at the doctor's office. Dr Grogan's reviews mentioned plantar warts more than others, so that's how I decided on him. For those of you in my situation, don't waste time and hobble around in pain like I did. Just go ASAP. It turns out that there was no scalpel! Dr Grogan scraped off a little dead skin, then very gingerly applied a few drops of medication that kills the virus. I was sent home with a couple bandaids on my foot and another medication that I put on nightly. I read many articles that said this would take weeks and months, but I had only two more visits and they were gone! They were actually gone after the second visit since the third visit was just to confirm that I no longer needed any more treatment. Dr Grogan was very friendly and easy to chat with. Smart and Funny two qualities I adore in a doctor! He's a Foot Psychic who can tell you so much about you via your feet! He knows so many health related things and not just about feet - our conversation bounced from Fibromyalgia & Ehlers Danlos to the benefits of going gluten free, which we both are. When I told Dr. Grogan that ever since I ditched wheat I have hardly had any ingrown toenails and he told me that it's because my toes are no longer inflamed and puffy from the rat poison (that what I call gluten) and therefore the nails can grow straight! Who knew that this would be yet another benefit to Wheat Divorce! I was petrified that the slight numbness in two toes (the same on both feet) was some scary Diabetic Neuropathy thing. Fortunately its just a mild form of a more common Neuropathy. Be kind before you go see him - give your feetsies a nice soak in water with sea salt, Redmond clay, and baking soda, use a hair drier between the toes to dry them, then grab fresh socks like I did! read more

Attentive, Available, Awesome When I started having pain on the ball of my right foot, I am so happy I turned to Dr. Kirk Grogan. It turned out to be a neuroma, which required surgery, after several attempts to otherwise address it. I could not have found a more caring and capable surgeon. Dr. Grogan gave me his email address and even cell phone number so that, if I had any questions leading up to the surgery or afterwards, I could ask him directly. I did email him several times, and his advice was incredibly informative and helpful. Before surgery, I could barely walk. Twelve weeks later, I was camping in Tahoe and hiking four miles in the wilderness. I appreciate Dr. Grogan's attentiveness and availability all along the way. read more

Someone said he's smart and funny (totally the opposite). This is the worse podiatrist I have ever been to, takes xrays even before he sees a patient and knows why you are there (a money trap). Then he doesn't even inspect your feet and just looks at them from 10 feet away and makes a diagnosis which was totally wrong, I then went to an expert in the field. I would warn everyone to do the research and find an excellent podiatrist (Parnassus Heights Podiatry is excellent and Alice Knee is the one of the best in the country. read more

My experience with Dr. Grogan has compelled me to inform write my second yelp review ever, and first negative one. I highly recommend finding another doctor. I'm shocked to read positive reviews on here of Dr. Grogan. If you look closely, most of the reviews are around bedside manners. Yes, Dr. Grogan is a guy who is easy to have a conversation with. But he's a doctor, not a sales person, and his reviews are over-indexed on his people skills, not his ability to be a good doctor. I've had chronic foot pain for 3 years from a traumatic achilles injury. I looked on yelp to try another podiatrist and saw the positive reviews. Our first appointment was lightweight, he did a very quick evaluation then said he would wait to receive the MRIs, and would call me. He never called, said he never received MRIs. I then sent the only copy I had of the MRIs directly to him. I continued to follow-up with him, and two months later he finally called me back. He apologized, and told me that I should receive a nerve conduction analysis. During our first appointment, we discussed that I had already had a nerve conduction analysis twice, but I guess he failed to write that down. Essentially, I wasted time, money, and a lot of frustration with Kirk. Hopefully this doesn't happen to someone else. read more

Words cannot describe the relief I felt when I heard the words from Dr. Grogan, "You definitely do NOT need surgery and you don't need to have your foot shortened!". After having not one but two podiatrists tell me that the re-occurring wart was going to be a constant companion for the rest of my life, that my left foot was misaligned causing warts and even with surgery, it would come back, I was down in the doldrums. I had gone from being extremely active to spending 2 months WFH and the most effort spent in walking to the kitchen to get food/water. Such was the searing pain when I placed even the lightest weight on it. And in 3 weeks, I was going to go on a multi-day hiking trip in Utah with the family and my wife asked what we were going to do. That was when I decided to change doctors and visit Dr. Grogan. Dr. Grogan listened to my tale of woe, gave his above verdict and I was immediately hopeful. He told me that I should be able to make it to the trip. He gave me a regimen to follow for 6 weeks and said I would be completely healed by then. I followed the regimen to a T and I was back to normal in 4 weeks. We canceled the last of the bi-weekly checkups as a result of my fast recovery. If you have foot issues/pain, go here. I started running a couple years ago. Joined a running group and finished a half marathon in 1hr 53 mins on my first try. But, I was experiencing major pain in the heel of my foot. Every day, I was icing/elevating my feet and taking Aleve to numb the pain. I was in constant pain on a daily basis from my first steps in the morning and limped around most of the day. Since I'm not a spring chicken, I thought running was too hard on my body and was getting ready to hang up my running shoes. My husband recommended that I see a podiatrist first. I thought the pain was due to impact of my heel (bone) on the pavement. It wasn't. It was the connective tissue. He showed me a few stretches and made recommendations on the shoes I wear during the day (avoid flats). I already stretch before every run so I started stretching after my run too. After one week, the pain had gone down significantly. After a few months, the pain is gone and I no longer ice or take Aleve on a regular basis. This had made a huge difference in the quality of my life. Also got new orthodics which helped. Mine were 12+ years old and technology has come a long way. My new orthodics are extremely thin, light weight, and small enough to fit under the insoles of my shoes. They fit in my shoes without adding a ton of bulk. All in all, I'm so happy that I saw Dr. Grogan. I really wish I would have contacted him sooner. read more

The office is on the ground floor with xray availability on same visit. I am feeling better for the first time in months. Dr. Grogan has the best bedside manner. I have had one other Dr. in 57 years that comes close. He made me feel as though I had his complete attention and no waiting. He kept me totally informed throughout the entire process. I just had a HORRIBLE experience at this office. I am shocked and dismayed at the extremely unprofessional and discriminatory behavior of this office. I have seen Dr. Grogen once before and he had been helpful therefore I decided to see him again with some foot issues. For starters, the front office person was dismissive from the start, asked for my name and Bday and kept looking at her screen until finally I asked did you find me and she nodded yes!! and then just asked for my co-pay, I realized I don't have my FSA card with me and asked if I can send her my new FSA as it just kicked in for the new year but don't have it with me or I can pay online, she said no, we don't do anything online which is unheard of and I have always paid my co-pay online with Sutterhealth, myhealthonline. So I paid with CC. Then she said do you have another insurance card, the one on file is expired. I gave her the one I had and she said no this is the same one. I said I can send you the new one when I get home. She said I am sorry you CANNOT see the Dr, without valid insurance!! I told her I will provide the updated insurance once I get home after my appointment. She insisted that I am sorry you can't see the Dr. without valid insurance. I said no, I will see the Dr. and will send you my new insurance, she repeated no Unfortunately you cannot see the DR. without valid insurance. I said I have been waiting for this appointment and have canceled out of town plans to see the Dr. and now you are not letting me see him? you have sent me numerous reminders for this appt. and now you are canceling it when I am here in your office!?!?! I called my husband and he said we have a new number in the new year, and ill send it to you he was also shocked that they are behaving this way, said I have never heard that you cannot see the DR. I repeated, I AM going to see the DR. and will send you my insurance, and then she said I am canceling your COpayment, you cannot see the DR. without valid insurance. I said, what if I am someone without insurance, what then, I can't see the DR then at all? this had been going on for a while and escalating, I knew that the Dr. had been listening as his patient had left a while back and I had heard him in the office next door. So at that point, after all this, he comes out and asks her if she is ok and proceeds to tell me that he heard the whole thing and she didn't even have a chance to offer you out of pocket!!!!! WHAT??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? that was the most cowardly act!! First that he didn't come out earlier to de-escalate the situation with his obviously new, clueless, and unprofessional assistant, second to so bluntly lie in my face when I knew he heard me say numerous times that No I am going to see the DR. and she kept saying you cannot see the Dr. without a VALID Insurance!! NOT ONCE even after I said what If I don't have insurance and want to pay out of pocket, did she say, ok Go ahead, she even proceeded to cancel my co-payment without me asking!!!! I told him Dr. Gorgen, I had seen you before and you had helped me but this behavior is unacceptable and I am going to see another Dr. Then they proceeded to refer me to someone a couple of floors up. UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR BY A HEALTH CARE OFFICE which I am reporting, As a former employee of Sutterhealth and a current Caregiver this is the first time I have encountered this kind of treatment in a Medical office in over 20 years!!!!! read more

I am a former World-Class athlete. Stricken by cancer in 2000, I was unable to walk for 23 months and suffered life changing damage to my right leg and foot as a result. Dr's Grogan and Salk took over the office of Dr. Jon Tinkle in San Francisco, and when they did they raised the bar for podiatric medicine in the Bay Area. They used a new, somewhat experimental, simple techinque for dissolving excessive bone overgrowth in my right foot. Surgury was not possible on my foot, and it was really my only option. It was a complete success. These two doctors are genuinely interested in their work. They seem to pride themselves on their success, and are constantly striving to obtain it. When they work together, you can see the synergy between them. They are both EXCELLENT at what they do and REALLY CARE about their patients. I would recommend them to anyone. Peace read more

Punctured my foot a few months ago and thought it was no problem when the pain was gone a couple days later. Wrong. Two months later a small, persistent, sharp pain developed in my heel. And then another spot. And then it started to REALLY hurt. As if each step I took involved my heel giving birth to triplets made of rusty needles and glass shards. I ran (well, cabbed) to Dr. Grogan, hoping he'd yank out some tiny sliver of metal that had been nesting in my hoof for months. His unsavory and rather cheery response was, "Ah! You have two plantar warts!" Foul. After I got over the shock of realizing my left foot was a burgeoning colony of filth, he proceeded to painlessly peel away dead skin like my foot was an Idaho russet. I was prescribed some weird beetle juice shit to put on my heel. Sound bizarre? Fine. Three days later I can walk without opiates (sad face) and I have faith that Dr. Grogan is actually the Truth Sent from Above. read more

Dr. Grogan is awesome. I had this bike accident 2+ years ago where I had to swerve to avoid two drunk girls stumbling into my path. I emerged mostly unscatched... except for my poor big toe, whose nail was partially torn up. I was a big wuss and didn't go to the doctor to get the nail removed properly. On top of it, I didn't have proper health insurance, and Lamisil cost like $300/month. Fast forward 2+ years and several home remedies later, the toenail is still kind of fungal. But now I have health insurance! I'm taking Lamisil now, thanks to Dr. Grogan (and Aetna), and it seems to be working! He listened to my whole story AND engaged in more conversation on top of it. I would totally have a beer with him if he... wasn't my doctor. He wants me back in to check on my progress. He seems really committed to eradicating my toenail issue. He cares. read more

Several years ago -- one fateful and unfortunate night -- our cat jumped onto a speaker that was balanced (unwisely) on top of our TV. I pulled him off; he resisted; and the speaker came down on top of my right toe. 48 hours and one long emergency room visit later, I was in Dr. Grogan's office for a severe toe fracture. Okay, So it has been 4 months since my last visit to Dr. Grogan and guess what? I AM CURED !!! I would totally take a picture of my foot to show everyone (really, I would) but Its late and I doubt you want to see my left big toe. The new medication (Spornax) did the miracle. I took two pills once a day and viola, all gone. From week one, I saw some improvement and have been seeing improvement ever since. The gross one did not go through an excorcism nor did it get worse first-- It still had to grow out, but my toe looks amazing (Almost long enough for a french tip) - Joking! Last weekend I even got to break out the prada sandals!! A very proud moment. Still has about 1/5 th of an inch to go or so (I like them even and square) and PERFECT-- Side note on the meds-- They come with some scary "sideaffects"-- They allegedly counteract with many many many medications from lipitor to ambien and warns about interactions - HOWEVER-- I took them religiously and have had ZERO side effects. NONE, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA !! (My mantra is if there is a will, there is a way) And beleive me, if your looking for a podiatrist, I suspect you will also agree you (and I) would rather die than to have a messed up toe!! So- Skip on the lamisil, home remedies, laser treatments and homopathic craziness-- PASS GO- and run, hop or limp your way over to to Dr. Kirk- He will save your toe!! read more
