My muscles are recovering from car accidents, so I started with 110-minute sessions and was referred by a relative to request the masseuse named Honor, who is very skilled in her practice. She has an amazing touch and sense of my aching back and shoulders. I usually prefer a strong massage but with my recent injuries, I needed a gentler approach to the session which she provided. She has steady and strong hands as well when I was finally ready for deeper treatment. After 3 sessions with Honor, she is able to change treatment and techniques depending on what you would like to work on. I can't say enough good words for my experience. I book one 80- or 110-minute per week. The space is on the 2nd floor, is dark and quiet, which helps to wind down and relax before entering. read more

Bianca did an AMAZING deep tissue massage for me. She is extremely thorough and listens to feedback. The space itself is really clean and vibey, and there's lots of parking which is a plus. I can't say enough good things about Bianca, so just know my 2/5 has nothing to do with her. I am docking stars because the company absolutely HOUNDS you to join their membership. They called me and texted me even before I received my massage to tell me about it, the massage therapist asked me at check out (not holding that against her, I'm sure she's required to), then they texted me after my massage about it. I stated multiple times that I didn't get massages enough to justify a membership. They also keep the membership details purposely vague, basically telling you that you'll just get $20 off if you sign up. But they fail to let you know that you'll be billed that $89-109 monthly whether you get a massage or not. So no thanks! Additionally, they auto prebooked me for next month without any promoting from me. Of course with no way to digitally cancel either. When I called, they said they do it for clients because 'they usually want a follow up'. It's a bit aggressive and intense for a massage company. I would be more inclined to book with them again if it wasn't for this marketing tactic, but unfortunately I won't be returning. read more

Highly do not recommend booking through ClassPass. Or at least that is what I'm going to blame this poor experience on at the Hillcrest Mellow Massage on... I booked through ClassPass, semi accidentally; called to try and have it cancelled but the man I spoke with said there was nothing they could do to prevent the cancellation fee + the loss of the credits so I went ahead with the appointment. Not sure if who I was assigned to give me the massage was done so because it was a ClassPass (like how Groupon gets you serviced by the most novice staff most times) or what the deal is but it was not good. Despite this being a chain business, this location in particular just feels off from the moment you walk in. Nothing but some dark lighting, red/black (I couldn't even tell) painted walls and just a man standing at the counter when I walked in. No signs or anything to really assure you that you're in the right place once you're inside...kind of creepy/scary honestly especially since my appt was at a time that every other neighboring business was closed. Anyway, the man at least knows my name and leads me to the massage room. I've had a blessed number of massages in my life and right away knew this wasn't going to be a remarkable one. The room had one of the most basic cheap massage tables with one sheet on it directly and one sheet to cover yourself with, some opened energy drink cans on the counter, a portable hot stone pack on a stool, a clock on the wall and nothing more of note. Weird vibe from the start. The man assigned to my hot stone deep tissue massage just had no flow or rhythm. Nothing was uniform in technique, motions, how one side was massaged compared to the other, how much time was spent with different body parts, was audibly fumbling with the hot stones and just not at all able to use them smoothly with the massage...it just all felt very amateur. It was so off, I had to wonder if he'd ever even received a massage himself...Not what I'd pay over $100 for. The whole time I was on the table I was just waiting for it to be over. I genuinely considered just telling him we could stop so I could at least say I didn't waste a whole 90min of my evening there. All this to say, I will not be back to this location and will likely avoid any Mellow Massage locations if this is the standard they are okay with. read more

Just had a massage after canceling my subscription membership two years ago to give them another chance, and I just cannot get over how bad it was. My therapist was too scared to do a real firm massage with me being pregnant and I basically got an oil rub down. She ignored all my requests and spent maybe 1 minute on them and I left feeling the same as I walked in. I get massages almost twice a week and should just stick to the places that are better. I have such mixed feelings about this business. First off, it's part of Billy Canu's group and I really admire him and love his other businesses: Skin Habit ( AMAZING) Yogabox (LOVE) Renegade Fitness (So GOOD) so I really want to love Mellow Massage too. My problem is their business model. I've had the monthly membership for about 6 months now and I love the service, the 2 massage therapists I've seen (Jackie, who is no longer there was great) and Lloyd, I saw today for the first time time knocked it out of the park!! But they use this 3rd party call center in India to book appointments and contact for any issues and it is NOT GOOD. Honestly, this might be the thing that makes me walk away. Do better Mellow. First time here and really enjoyed my massage ! At first the darkness threw me off when I entered, but it made it feel way more relaxing. I had the prenatal massage with Honor and I almost fell asleep it was very relaxing. The only thing I didn't like was the beds are so hard it felt like I was laying on a board. On July 13, 2024, I corresponded with Kelly via email (info@mellow-massage.com), and on behalf of Mellow Massage, she confirmed that my membership had been canceled and that a refund had been processed. She also mentioned that the receipts for the refund had been sent to me. While I did receive refunds for the charges on June 4, 2024, and July 24, 2024, I have recently discovered that I continued to be charged $109 each month from August 2024 through January 2025, totaling $654, despite the previous confirmation that my membership was canceled. As these charges were made in error, I want the total amount of $654 to be credited back to my American Express card. I have made several recent attempts to contact Mellow Massage both by phone and email to resolve this matter directly, but unfortunately, I have received no responses. Before choosing Mellow Massage I had tried other establishments in the SD area such as H2, The Knot Stop, Massage Science, Cascade Spa, and Karma Spa. I chose Mellow Massage for various reasons provided below, and so glad I did! Massage: 5/5 I get massages very often due to many many muscle aches, and the massages at Mellow Massage are one of the best I've had. While everyone has been great, particular shout out to Tommy, Alan, and Gabriela! Availability: 5/5 They have many massage therapists and many locations around SD. I've had no problem booking a same day massage after pulling a muscle or after a long hike when needed. Though if you want a specific therapist, you may need to book ahead of time. It was simple to book online and I like that they remind you in a few different places to bring cash for tips. I already forgot who gave me my message, unfortunately, but it was great. I loved the atmosphere of the spa; it was very dark and cozy when you enter. They do a pretty good job blocking out outside noises from the busy area. My appointment was right on time, my massage therapist focused on the areas giving me the most problems, and I had a great experience. Booked a massage last night for today with Christine. Online booking was super easy and straight forward. Got to the location (lots of parking underground) and walked in. Checked in, was given some water and then they got the room ready. I met with Christine and she asked if there was any areas I wanted to focus on. I informed her that my shoulder had a bad injury which resulted in surgery a couple years ago. I've had massages since the surgery, but Christine was able to find the spots deep in my shoulder that others haven't been able to. She really seemed like she wanted to help the constant pain, rather than just brush over it, as other people have done in the past. I've gotten lots of massages in the past (generally I'm someone who bounces around between Groupons and gift cards) but this was the first time I want to keep coming back to the same person. Upon arriving, we noticed the atmosphere at the entrance was really calming and relaxing experiencing the dimmed lights and soft music. We were greeted upon our arrival and waited a few minutes before our messages. We had the pleasure of meeting Elysia and Mariana as our therapists. This was our first time at this facility and had a great experience. Both therapists were very nice and took care of our specific needs during our massages. THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL SCAM. DO NOT BUY A GIFT CARD FROM THEM. I have a massage gift card with over $100 on it and they are refusing to let me use it. I've only had the card for about a year and they're claiming it's expired. That is completely outrageous and possibly illegal. California law says gift cards are supposed to be valid for at least five years and they clearly don't care. Corey from customer service was incredibly rude and dismissive. He told me there's nothing they can do and made zero effort to help. I asked to speak to a manager and sent an email. I got no response. I have NEVER written a Yelp review before but this experience is beyond frustrating. They took money and are refusing to provide the service that was paid for. They will not honor the card, will not refund it, and will not even talk to me about it. It feels shady and completely unethical. I am reporting this business to the Better Business Bureau. Me and my sister booked a 10:00am massage here to celebrate my birthday. On the morning of our appointment at 9am, they sent us an email saying our appointments have been moved to 10:30am. It was frustrating to have to deal with that time adjustment so last minute, and we called them and they said they "meant to call us to let us know". We weren't able to cancel because of a 24hr cancellation policy where they have the right to charge for the full amount. When we arrived, my appointment started 15 minutes later (still got the full 80 mins) and my sister went in a few minutes late. NO ONE SHOULD GO HERE - STAY AWAY Wife and I booked a 2hr couples massage for our anniversary, we have busy schedules and don't treat ourselves often, so this was supposed to be a special experience for us. Upon arrival, there was no one at the front desk. I learned later there is no receptionist/front desk person at all, the massage therapists check people and take payment, this explains why my massage didn't start until 20 minutes after the start of my appointment time. During my massage, my therapist left the room to deal with something going on in the lobby, after a few minutes, returned to the room and just mentioned something about someone screwing up. At the end of my massage, I discovered my wife had been sitting in the lobby the entire 2 hours of my massage. Her therapist never showed. I understand that things happen and workers don't show up, but the terrible customer support that results from their asinine business setup was inexcusable. There was no receptionist or store manager to talk to, no one who could have reached out to the therapist to see if the therapist was actually going to come instead of gaslighting my wife that she must be on the way for 2 hours. There was no one to make it right with us, everything gets routed to some call center in India. They charged us for the full price for both of us despite their error, and I had to deal with their customer support who barely spoke English and just kept repeating the same thing over and over again. He clearly had no authority to do anything right by me as the customer who was wronged. This was worst massage business I've ever seen. They charge a premium price and don't have a shred of premium customer service. Dear Mellow Massage therapists, for future reference, if a couple has arrived together, and is supposed to get a 2 hour massage at the same time, and one of their therapists didn't show, you may want to...oh I dunno...LET THEIR PARTNER KNOW. Why? Maybe they would want to split the 2 hour session so that each person gets 1-hour. Maybe they would want to cut the 2 hour session short so their partner isn't wasting 2 hours of their time. I'm not even trying to be one of those reviewers who wants to come here and complain, I just wanted to post this review to let all the women know, PLEASE BE AWARE & DO NOT COME HERE! Let me start by saying that this recent massage I got was a redo from a terrible massage I received prior at the College location that is closed down. This massage was even worse than the last one and the way I felt leaving the place was disgusting. So I originally rebooked with Gabriela who I loved and had gotten the very first time visiting Mellow Massage. After that, I received a terrible massage from a male masseuse (who I usually don't mind getting massages from because I have always felt comfortable by the way they treated me). But that masseuse left my legs and arms exposed after treating me and all he did was stretch me and wiggled my extremities in a wavelike motion as if I was a blanket and he's trying to get crumbs off of it. I laid there for 80 minutes hoping it would get better but it didn't. I called and let the company know I was not happy and I wanted to cancel my membership. They offered me a complimentary massage for the future but continued to harass me with text to sign up for a membership again even after letting them know consistently I was not interested. So I wanted to book with Gabriela again but they called me the day of my massage to reschedule me because she got sick. They booked me with a male but I told them I wasn't comfortable with a male because of my last visit but they reassured me that this masseuse was good and I would be ok, so I accepted and hoped for the best. Now let's get to my most recent massage on Monday, 12/11. I received a massage from Paul who was kind and talkative when he introduced himself. But once I got onto the table, it was a nightmare. I let him know my problem areas and how I woke up that morning with a stiff neck so getting a massage would be the perfect timing. Little did I know, he only made me feel worse. He started off working on my neck while I was facing down but was so rough and fast like he was chopping up vegetables. I let him know it was rough and I wanted mild to moderate pressure. He then at one point hopped onto the table and was at the end of the bed and dug both his knees into my butt and wiggled around and continued to knee my butt. I told him it hurt and he still did not stop. I seriously wanted to cry because I was not comfortable. He kept massaging and pinching my butt when that was not even a problem area. Keep in mind, I only stated my neck, shoulders, and lower back hurt. I even said my legs ache from standing all day at work, NOT MY BUTT! He also did that weird shaking of the extremities the last guy did too which was not relaxing or helpful at all. Yes, I understand Thai massages get on the table and step on you, etc (which I have experienced before) but not like this. Once he asked me to turn around and face up, I asked him if that's part of the Swedish massage? He said, what? I said.. the shaking and kindly asked if he cannot do that anymore and just massage me. He even said it's not part of the Swedish massage but HE FELT that that was what I needed because of my "problem areas". So now it gets worst. When he gets back down to my legs, he lifts up the blanket on both my legs which I have never had done before, it's only the last two times with these two male therapist. He hops on the table again at the end of the bed and he's on his knees and I can feel him hovering over my private area, running his hands up my legs on the outter parts and he even goes underneath my underwear trying to massage my hips and butt. Now I'm feeling sooo uncomfortable and I want to cry because I feel that this is very inappropriate almost like I'm getting molested and I can't even do anything about it. Now he comes behind me and massages my neck which he is still so rough to the point where I'm making painful facial expressions and instead of him adjusting himself to make ME feel comfortable, he moves my jaw down so I can stop making a face. Then he is cupping my breast trying to massage around it and he even went underneath the blanket, running his hands down my chest towards my stomach. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME!! Through all the years I have gotten massages, whether it's a male or female, THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME!! Only with the last two male therapist and this company! They both need to be fired. I have never wanted both massages to end so badly. Yes, the aesthetic looks nice and yes, it is created by Bobby from Queer Eye but I have no idea how they run this place or how they hire these people. I have never felt so disgusted leaving a massage in my life. I wish I could get my money back because I seriously paid for someone to make me feel uncomfortable at a vulnerable moment when all I wanted was to come in and feel relaxed. I have been told that I self-enrolled that the membership was purchased by me, and that the terms included the monthly charge agreed at the time of sign-up, so they cannot refund me. I have no recollection of any of these. I never receive an email nor a text that I'm getting billed each month. And I would know if I have to pay something each month. This is ridiculous. I have had a membership with Mellow Massage since July 2022. While I will say that most of their therapists have been excellent, I would not recommend the membership. When I first signed up I enjoyed it. I would say if you find one therapist you can keep booking with regularly and you can just schedule your appointments ahead of time it might be much less hassle. When I first started the monthly membership I had a few great therapists who really helped with some injuries I was having. I liked that the company is owned by doctors and they usually would check in after each appointment to see if the appointment was ok. They no longer do this most times. Also if you missed a month appointment but were charged for the massage they would credit you that massage. Sometime last year that feature went away and if you missed that month you pay $100 and get nothing for it, it's on you. Also since then they have gotten rid of the receptionist, the one they previously had in hillcrest was excellent. So your massage therapist now handles the charging and then books your next session. This is fine if you're with someone you've liked but if you don't want to see that therapist again it awkward to ask to see someone else to their face and leaves the therapists wasting time between appointments dealing with payments and appointments. Leaving you to then call their only appointment phone line if you need to change or need additional help. This is the worst part of my experience with mellow. Every time I call I get someone who I can barely understand who doesn't speak English well. This is also the same line used for customer service or complaints now and it isn't anyone who works in either location or has anything to do with the business. It has been terrible every time I've had to communicate with this number and I have to use it frequently to make or change appointments as I cannot book online with any credits I had from the past. The customer service of this business has seriously gone downhill over the last year. In addition, at the hillcrest location the mellow is next to a Pilates studio and above a veterinarian's office. The rooms are not well sound proofed and you can hear Pilates classes instructors yelling or the animals at the vet throughout your appointment. They also offer couples massages but do not have a double room for such at Hillcrest. Overall, this business and its customer service has seriously declined and there are many other places with much better business models in town to go to. Don't join for the membership!! read more

I've been having professional massages for nearly 30 years and I've had some pretty great masseurs. Today's massage with Joshua was amongst the very best I've had. I carry alot of stress from working long hours on a PC and from working out 3-4 hours a week. I booked the 80 minutes massage after my boyfriend recommended Joshua after he had 2 amazing massages with him. I was really impressed as he found my severe spots in my shoulders and back in minutes and then found additional tough spots in my neck. He worked the areas really well, digging in and really releasing the knots. I am so blown away at how good I feel. The additional movement I have now in my neck and back, not to mention that I'm no longer in constant pain in my shoulders. I've been almost giddy at how good I feel.
