If you're in Grand Haven, you HAVE to stop here! The corn…read moredogs were only $2 each, and they were so crunchy, hot, and delicious. We were originally going to split one because we weren't even that hungry, but at the last minute we decided to get two... and honestly, I could've eaten 10. It's nothing fancy, just the cutest old-school stand, and you should definitely be prepared for a line because this place is popular. They only accept cash, but at these prices, who cares?! $2 for a corn dog, $0.75 for a small pop, and $1.25 for a large. They even paint your ketchup and mustard right on the corn dog, which is such a fun little old-school touch. If I lived here, I'd probably be getting these 1,000 times. I can absolutely see why this place is so popular!

I've reviewed this place in the past. Actually not favorably…read more But keep in mind, I didn't grow up here. I don't have those "fond memories" that many of the reviewers do. Also, I actually know what a good corn dog is supposed to taste like and it isn't a Pronto Pup. Now I have a friend staying in town and he insists that Pronto Pup is one of the "must do" things when in Grand Haven. I caution him and tell him...."it's a local thing" and it's doubtful he will be overjoyed. Again he insists, since he read up on GH and all the things that one should experience i.e. Musical Fountain, Rays Beefburgers, Fricano's Pizza, etc. I agree to go as long as there is no long line to wait in. There wasn't, we actually were one of the first in line for the day. They open at 11AM. We didn't order any mustard/ketchup (the only condiments they offer), he wanted to get the full taste of it. I choked mine down as usual, he took two bites out of his and said "OMG, you aren't kidding. This is greasy dough over a Bar-S hot dog!" He did finish his though. After that I was able to convince him Fricano's will disappoint an out-of-towner even more.....and you'll be out more than $2.

If you got kids, or if you have the buds of a kid, this is a great place for soft, textureless,…read moretasteless hotdogs.

It was seeing their krautdog on the menu that convinced me to buy the Groupon for this place. I…read moretried it on my first visit here and it was good, but in all honesty it didn't blow me away like I'd hoped. I think I'm more used to store bought sauerkraut out of a jar which is more sour and I suspect theirs may be homemade. It was good, but just not what I'd prefer although I'm sure for some it would be very good since everybody's taste preferences are different. I suspected though that if I came back again and tried something different I'd be more impressed so I held off on writing this review until I'd been there a 2nd time. Last night was my second visit and I have to say I was very impressed with my Gregordog which is a chili dog with ketchup, mustard, onion and pickle relish. Now that was impressive! I'm not normally a huge fan of chili dogs, but I will be going back for the Gregordog in the future since it was definitely in the top 2 of the best chili dog I've had. I think the one thing that impressed me the most on it was not a flavor thing but a prep thing. What I really enjoyed was that the onion they put on were finely minced so when you bit into it you could taste the onion, but it wasn't like you had a mouthful of onion which is never a good thing. Both times when I went in the guys working behind the counter were friendly and I give kudos for that since good customer service is getting harder to come by every day. I will continue to eat here a couple times a month and I've got a sneaky feeling that as I explore their menu more I may have to bump them up to a 5 star review. In addition to the wide variety of hotdogs they also serve burgers, pizza slices, burritos and a few side items and of course soft drinks.

Table's biggest hit was the…read moreKing Louie Fries which were their seasoned crinkle cut fries with melted cheese, shaved beef, and giardiniera peppers. I think the Chicago dog and the Italian Beef with the au jus on the side were solid, but nothing to write back home to Chicago about. Better than Portillo's, kind of reminded me of Mr. Beef almost. Getting the sandwich wet is usually the rite of passage, but I went for the au jus on the side. Don't make the mistake I did. Everything just falls out of it when you tilt the sandwich to dip it. Also, if you think you can eat hot giardiniera peppers, just think for a quick sec longer because these ones were pretty hot for someone who has a decent heat tolerance.

We stopped in for a drink and ended up catching two different live jazz bands, which was such a great surprise and made it a really fun place to hang out for a while. We both had beers, shared a Chicago dog, and ordered wings. The Chicago dog was good, but the wings were advertised as crispy and unfortunately they were definitely not crispy. So I'd probably skip those next time. Other than that, service was good, prices were very reasonable, and we really enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and live music. Nothing fancy, just a cool little local spot to grab a beer, listen to some jazz and hang out. We'd definitely stop in again--just not for the wings! they say crispy on the menu yeah not so much. The face wasn't dirty so that's nice. There is an outdoor seating area as well as indoor.
