In 2019 went in for a first appt at 8 weeks pregnant and dr duperval told the technician, not me, "looks like a blighted ovum" with the door open and her hand on the knob. She was clearly in a rush to go to another patient and j had to ask her what that meant, even though I knew. She was absolutely awful throughout the next few weeks of my uncertainty and ultrasound. She ultimately scheduled my d and c at an abortion clinic, which, fine, I'm fine with that, but no one told me or followed up with me and I didn't have any choice, myself. So after weeks of miscarrying and ultimately having this lonely, cold removal procedure, dr duperval never followed up. Checked in on me. I have such great medical trauma from this woman, during one of the biggest griefs of my life. I literally just made my first OBGYN appt since. Go elsewhere. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Duperval for a year now, and after my second annual visit with her, I'm prepared to recommend her as a GYN. Her office is clean, accessible from public transit, and reception is easy to communicate with. Exam rooms are small, about average for a Manhattan doctor's office. Had my vitals taken by a nice nurse, and was only kept waiting for a few minutes before Dr. Duperval was in to see me. On our first visit, we first met in her office to get acquainted, and for us to discuss my specific needs/questions regarding my visit. This second visit for my annual, there was less small talk and Dr. duperval got straight to business-- not a problem for me, though some patients may feel more at ease if this process was a bit slowed down. The exam took all of five minutes, a new Rx was called in by reception for me, and I was on my way. I definitely plan to keep her as my GYN for however long I stay in this city. It's just too much trouble to be picky and find someone absolutely outstanding. She's a nice doctor, competent, and I've yet to have any issues with her or her office, so that's good enough for me. read more

Knowledgeable, funny, firm when necessary and all around just the type of person and professional you want in charge of your pregnancy, birth experience, and beyond. So, I decide I'm going to try to consolidate my activity to areas near work and home because I spend way too much time traveling and not enough time being efficient. I start with the most important tasks that I can focus on the less important after. So, my health and wellness is key! I got a gym near work. I do all shopping near home and I'm doing much better with time. With that, I decide I'm going to try a GYN near my office - not that I dislike my current GYN but again all in the spirit of efficiency without compromising quality. I walk into this tiny little Tribeca office with three buxom receptionist that look underworked and dizzy. First, I was perplexed at seeing a spiral staircase in a medical office - especially a GYN office. What happens to high risk pregos? Are they expected to climb those stairs? Anywho, one receptionist looks up and takes my name and gives me paperwork to fill out in the very hot and clamy waitng area. I start filling out the questionnares. Then as fate would have it, as I'm filling out the HIPPA paperwork, I hear the doctor all the way from the waiting area (not that there is much room in the place from one area to another) giving a patient bad news with her outside voice. WTH! Why was she giving this patient inside information with her outside voice??? Is this hidden camera? Was that to see my reaction? Either way, total shit show - SMH! I stopped filling out the paperwork and ran like never before straight out the door with my paperwork. No one even called to ask if I wanted to reschedule or if I was ok. Is she a real docotor? If she is, she needs to get a real office and be sensitive with confidential info! read more

Dr. Duperval is an irresponsible, incompetent professional. I came to her thinking I had endometriosis (spoiler alert, I did) and her attitude was "what do you want me to do about it?" She ordered a sonogram. ENDOMETRIOSIS DOES NOT SHOW UP ON A SONOGRAM. The fact that a gynecologist is ignorant to common reproductive illnesses is stunning. Unsurprisingly, nothing showed up on the sonogram (it wouldn't) and she didn't suggest any next steps. Years later, I went to an endometriosis specialist and I had an MRI and an excision surgery. The endometriosis was all over my abdomen. Do not go see this doctor. She is uneducated, ignorant, incompetent, irresponsible, negligent, and dangerous. read more

I really do not like to write reviews like this. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. However, with all five of the following things occurring during my first visit, I feel responsible for educating other potential patients. I have received such excellent health care in this city in other doctor's offices and with so many choices, it is hard to imagine how any of the following could happen, especially in one visit. 1. Dr. Duperval never took a moment to get to know me or introduce herself upon our first meeting. I expect some sort of new patient special care. Sorry, but its incredibly unprofessional to skip that part of our meeting. You are about to get very intimate with me and every other GYN I have had for 30 years has bedside manner that at least has some level of professionalism where we get to know each other. 2. I had some very private information to discuss and Dr. Duperval never lowered her voice - she spoke very loudly throughout our meeting. I could hear the nurses in the hallway and I could hear the patients in other rooms. And I was whispering so that no one else could hear, but Dr. Duperval remained in her regular voice. I was clearly uncomfortable talking about something very private and she could not mirror me or understand my desire to be private. 3. They heat their instruments!!! And no one tested the temperature. Let's just say that I jumped up out of my stirrups it was so hot when it was placed in a very sensitive area. And the apology that followed was incredibly insincere. She almost blew it off except that I was in so much pain she had to acknowledge me. 4. The staff kept coming in while I was undressed getting instruments from the room which were kept in a place where I had to lift my legs to give them access. After the third one in 3 minutes, I asked them to wait until my appointment was over. 5. The front desk is very unorganized. They didn't give me the referrals, I had to call for them. And Dr. Duperval said she had a female urologist, but when I called, they only had a male urologist on the books as a referral. Also, I called to confirm the prescriptions had been called in. They assured me that they were and surprise...when I went to pick them up, they had not been called in. My pharmacy had to call for the prescriptions. I cannot figure out if my new health insurance does not pay this office appropriately, or if Dr. Duperval doesn't want new patients. But either way, this level of care in NYC - or anywhere in the world - is totally unacceptable. Woman to woman, I wanted her to succeed and I kept thinking the experience would get better. But it just kept getting worse. read more

I was very happy with Dr Duperval when I first started seeing her 2 years ago. This year I had an issue. I was told I needed a surgical biopsy which she couldn't do. I told her I would prefer to see a female Dr. She said she knew several that she would talk to and then would get back to me later in the week. I didn't hear from her for 2 weeks. At that point she said she couldn't find anyone to see me and could only suggest a male Dr. When the conversation was over she said I should call on Wednesday or Friday to discuss my decision. I called that Wednesday and left a message for her to call back. I never heard back. During those two weeks that I didn't hear from her I did have my records sent to 2 different women, one of which she said would be to busy to see me. Thank god I did send my records to the two other Dr's as both accepted me as a patient. One of which is the Dr. she said would be too busy to see me. I felt she didn't want to deal with my problem and I don't think she ever reached out to any other Dr. read more

Dr. Duperval is perfectly friendly, quick, willing to answer all my questions, and the office is nice. HOWEVER -- I'm giving one star because I have been calling the office for the past 10 MONTHS to sort out their incorrect coding of lab tests sent out (which resulted in my insurance not covering over $300 in tests that should be covered). I called to fix it and was told they'd talk to their lab representative. I bring a copy of the bill to the office. Weeks later, I call again, same answer. Months later, same answer. One day I call, and they have no idea what I'm talking about and don't have a copy of my bill, so I have to fax it over. I call both the medical lab and my insurance, and both tell me that the doctor's office just needs to add a medical code, and they can resubmit and it will be covered. Rude women on phone insists she had to resubmit the whole thing and makes me worry that none of it would be covered then. I continue to get increasingly threatening bills from the lab saying I'm overdue to pay. Call again and consistently follow up with the same person. She says they don't have a copy of my bill so I have to come out of my way to the office, AGAIN. Every week I call, she's still waiting to hear back from the lab rep. Finally after months they say they've talked to the rep and that the rep will "resolve" it, but don't give me any details on how or what was done, and say the rep will call me. In addition to having to send them the same bill three times, the doctor gave me a diagnosis and said she would prescribe something but the office had no record of it on my chart. They also had my cell number down wrong, and have never called me back to update my status despite promises to do so. Still not done with this office but hopefully will have my case resolved soon so I never, ever have to interact with this unorganized and inefficient office ever again. read more

I saw Dr. Duperval at the Warren St office for my well-woman checks, as well as for my first pregnancy. Dr. Duperval was compassionate, professional, and friendly. She answered all of my questions and was very patient. I never felt like she was in a rush- she had a great bedside manner. I wanted my first pregnancy to go smoothly (doesn't everyone?), and I really wanted to avoid a c-section if at all possible (seems difficult in a city with a much higher c-section rate than the national average). I made my wishes known to Dr. Duperval and she did everything to help me achieve that goal. I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Duperval attend at my delivery. I am almost certain that had one of her partners been on call that day (especially the male provider), I might have ended up with a c-section. Dr. Duperval was very patient with my (prolonged!) labor, was very encouraging, and coached me through all 2.5 hrs of my pushing. She was a champ and didn't leave my side throughout the arduous process. During my pregnancy, I was never kept waiting at her office throughout each of my pregnancy checks. (To make your appointments run on time, I would recommend showing up early to give your urine sample and get roomed which helps keep the doctor running on schedule.) In addition, I called in a few times with questions (as it was my first pregnancy) and Dr. Duperval always called me back in a timely fashion with reassurance. If I hadn't moved out of state, I would most likely continue here for my next pregnancy (but would opt for the private room at Lenox Hill as the shared room was definitely suboptimal- my baby ended up having to go to the NICU after delivery for 7 days and it was so painful to share a room with a woman who had her baby rooming in with her, while mine was in the NICU hooked up to monitors). I have since recommended Dr. Duperval to a couple of my friends who were also very happy with her services (Gyn only). Just as an FYI, during your pregnancy, the office staff schedules your various check-ups with the other partners so you can get to know them. I just didn't connect with the two other partners. (Since my delivery, they have hired a new MD, who recently finished residency, whom I only saw for one post-partum check and she seemed nice.) Overall, Dr. Duperval is amazing, but her partners are less so. Also, I don't think Lenox Hill is an optimal place to deliver if you are looking for a more natural birthing experience, (and looking to avoid residents--it's a teaching hospital), but in the end I was glad to be there as they have a Level 3 NICU. read more

I'm in my first trimester of pregnancy, and Dr. Duperval's office cancelled my first two appointments, both at 9 weeks. After rescheduling for the 11th week for my first visit, they called 45 minutes before the appointment and cancelled again. Since I had been cramping and bleeding at the beginning of my pregnancy and still hadn't had a first appointment, I mentioned to the receptionist Iliana, who had called me to cancel, that it was important, and if I could get something soon. She said "well it's not as important as delivering a baby" and told me I could get an appointment in my second trimester, or find another doctor. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional practice in my life. Dr. Duperval may be a great doctor for all I know, but because of her staff, she just lost her new patients. I had initially referred my colleagues to her as well, and after they heard my story they are deciding against it. I would not recommend a pregnant woman go here for her first pregnancy to deal with the imbecile working for her. read more

I am beyond shocked to see any less than stellar reviews for Dr. Duperval (and/or Dr. Shahim and/or Dr. Wu). I saw all three doctors during what turned out to be a high risk pregnancy, and cannot say enough how INCREDIBLE all of them were throughout the entire process. I'm not understating when I say that I feel like I owe the safety and healthy of both my son and me to their devoted and expert care during my pregnancy. It's also worth noting that each of these doctors is also very, very well respected at Lenox Hill. They were each superstar residents there and the whole nursing staff really respect them. (Had two hospitalizations prior to delivery so the nurses tend to give you the real 'dirt' on the docs, and they were unanimous in loving all three). The comment re: the Tribeca office and the receptionist is just wrong. The stairs are unrelated to their office (never used them in my many, many, many visits), and their receptionist is the best in the city. She is smart, friendly and competent - sadly, pretty rare finding in NYC doctor office staffs. I am sad to say that I moved cross-country and will not be able to use Dr. Duperval et al for my next pregnancy. They are truly the best. read more

Dr. Duperval is the best OBGYN I have ever been a patient of! Generally I am a total worry wart and even more so when it comes to medical issues. I have seen Dr. Duperval for annual screenings, complications with annual screenings, diagnosis and even pregnancy. She was always a call away and always made me feel calm and confident to handle everything that came my way. She answers all questions and does not make you feel less for not knowing the technical terminology. Without her support I would not have been able to be a mother today. A friend just asked me for a recommendation for an OBGYN. After sharing this practice with my friend I googled them out of curiosity and a few reviews popped up. After reading them I feel an obligation to post. I have been going to this office for the past 4 years, through the pregnancy and delivery of both of my healthy daughters. Overall I've had a wonderful experience with them and and would highly recommend them. Throughout both pregnancies I met with each of the doctors so that I would be comfortable and familiar with everyone. They recommend this. You never know who will be on duty when you go into labor- no one can plan for that. I find each of their doctors to be knowledgeable, kind and extremely professional. I would have been happy to have any of them in the delivery room with me, and in fact based on when I was delivering during my first pregnancy I did end up seeing 3 of the 4 doctors at various points during my delivery. The nurses at Lenox Hill were also fantastic, and when the doctors were not able to be there with me during the labor, I trusted the nurses. I too did not want a C section, but as everyone knows childbirth is completely unpredictable. I think this practice is on the more conservative & cautious end of the spectrum, and I was OK with that. I spoke with each of the doctors about my desire not to have a c-section and I felt very supported by them in our goal with the understanding that the ultimate goal is to have happy and healthy baby and mom- if the doctor senses any danger, and that means a C-section, then so be it. I was induced for both pregnancies and ended up not needing a c-section. For my first birth I also had a duola and ended up not taking an epidural. For my second birth I ended up taking an epidural. I felt very supported by the doctors in both circumstances. I can't comment on some of the recent admin issues referenced in a few other posts, but I can say that I did not personally have this experience. Additionally, sometimes when the doctors are running late for appointments it is because they dealing with an emergency or another patient who needs to speak with them urgently. I will add that my appointments with Lenox Hill (not my appts with the doctor's practice) took a really long time- the hospital always seemed to be running very behind. I would often need to wait 45-60 minutes for my ultrasound. Definitely try to get an early morning appointment, before they start to run behind, b/c even if they are running behind you still need to show up on time to check in, otherwise you lose your place in the appointment "line". For me, it was worth it because I knew I would be getting excellent medical care but you'd think Lenox Hill would have figured out a solution to this. And just to clarify- I am talking about the appointments at the hospital this practice is affiliated with and not the practice itself. And I did have a great experience overall with Lenox Hill and their staff. I hope this review has been helpful! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Duperval for the past 2 1/2 years and she is an excellent doctor. She delivered both of my children through via C-Section. The other two Doctors Dr. Shahim and Dr. Wu are also wonderful. But I have to say I truly love having Dr. Duperval as my OBGYN, she not only makes you feel very comfortable but she's never in a rush while seeing you, is very down to earth and truly is caring. Worst doctors office ever. Leaves you on hold for long periods of times if they ever get back to you always had to hang up and call again. Or they Never pick up the phone. Doctors don't remember your last visit or important issues. They don't give patients options if you have any complications it has to be their way or nothing. So frustrated i decided to leave them at 37 weeks pregnant and go somewhere else. So happy i did my friend who went through with delivery with them had numerous issues. Only one great nurse, Melanie she's the best otherwise they're the worst. read more

I am the kind of person who gets nervous when I have to go to the doctor for any reason, but Dr. Duperval has such a calming vibe that she sets me at ease. She is very easy to talk to and to discuss one's issues with, and she had a good recommendation for a natural way for me to ease my peri-menopause symptoms. I found Dr. Duperval to be condescending and unwilling to take into consideration any concerns or my previous history with her route of treatment. After my pelvic exam, Dr. Duperval did not wipe off the extra gel and her nurses were unable to provide tissues. Pretty gross. The office also leaves something to be desired. While the waiting area is nice, the actual exam rooms are too small and incredibly dirty. read more

It has taken me a long time to write a review for Dr. Duperval, my son is now 14 months old. I had a terrible experience and really should have changed doctors part way through. I learned a hard lesson. My son is a perfectly healthy 14 month old which I am thankful for (though he has peanut, tree nut and egg allergies - higher chance in babies born by c-section). Throughout my pregnancy we had many many scares and I never felt like Dr. Duperval was great about breaking the news or talking me through them. I won't go into detail but the worst was when she called me at 6pm on a Friday about test results and told me that the results could mean a few different things but that I should call the genetic counselor on Monday morning. Guess if I spent the weekend Googling? Guess if that entire weekend was ruined?!? She could have waited until Monday seeing as though there was nothing I could have done in the meantime. The constant stress of incidence like this (there were many!) was really really terrible and uncalled for. My labor was complicated. I made it very clear that I wanted to have a natural birth throughout my pregnancy (after Dr. Duperval offered me a c-section because my son had a big head). In the end I was induced (on a Monday evening) because my son had a cord around his neck and he was not moving in the same way he previously had. I got to the hospital and Dr. Wu was there (I had a good experience with her). She started the induction. Over the course of the next 34 hours, I was passed off to every other doctor in the practice and never once did I see Dr. Duperval. I ended up having a c-section (by Dr. Shahim) because my son was in distress. So while labor didn't go as planned, I have a healthy baby and I am thankful for the other doctors for taking care of me. Only once during the 5 days that I was in the hospital in labor and recovering, did Dr. Duperval stop by, for a whole 2 minutes. Not a great ending from a doctor I spent 9 months getting to know. read more

I have been going to her for 7 years since I moved to the city but the other staff has changed in the office since the move from her old location in tribeca. They are a disaster both in appointment times, billing and friendliness. unfortunately just made it worthwhile for me to find a new obgyn which i am very sad about. read more

Dr Duperval is 1 of 3 great OBGYN's at the practice I've been going to for my pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy and I was new to NYC when I found out I was pregnant. I was recommended one of the other OBGYN's at the practice, however I found I had the best connection with Dr Duperval who is also absolutely lovely. Her bedside manner is perfect, it never feels like she's in a rush, she's caring and compassionate, plus she's an excellent doctor. I was lucky to have her for part of my labor, though I was in hospital with complications for several days, so one of the other OBGYN's in the practice was there at the end for the actual delivery. Please be careful going to Dr. Duperval, especially in her Tribecca office. I had a horrible experience where I've paid my co-pay and submitted my insurance card, and only later was told that they did not actually accept my insurance. I was not even examined (the doctor needed to have my medical records sent) and was slapped with a bill of $400. The staff, especially the receptionist was extremely rude and unprofessional and I have never been humiliated like this before. read more

My appointment was canceled with no rhyme or reason. I rescheduled my original appointment that I made on ZocDoc a month ago, yesterday, and received a cancellation notification email from the website this morning. To my surprise, I called the dr.'s office and the receptionist said the dr. does not accept my insurance, which is strange because I rechecked her profile on the website and it shows that she does in fact accept my plan and furthermore, why wasn't my original appointment canceled?! This makes no sense!!! I told the receptionist this and she was just as bewildered as I was and begins to apologize profusely. Meanwhile, I hear a woman shouting in the background and the receptionist then abruptly puts me on hold. I'm not sure who the woman shouting was but based on the reviews I'm reading, I can definitely take a wild guess. Something is totally amiss here and now I'm so glad that it was canceled after this morning's experience and perusing all of the reviews. In the end, I am very disappointed as her office is literally 10 minutes from my job and easy to get to, but the lack of professionalism definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Dr Duperval is great BUT I pity anyone who has to deal with HELEN in the park ave office. I've never had a "health care professional" make me feel so small, stupid and un-cared for. Dr. Duperval is wonderful. She delivered my daughter - it was a difficult one because the baby presented with her hand in addition to her head - but she was supportive and made sure I was able to deliver naturally. She has a great personality/bedside manner and I have to agree with the above review - there are three wonderful doctors at this practice but for me I felt the best connection with Dr. Duperval and was lucky enough to get her for my delivery!!!! I had a difficult few weeks after the birth and Dr. D even made sure to call and check up on me which was needed as I don't always call when I should...she is the best. read more

I've visited many ob-gyns over the years but never stayed with any of them. I'll be staying with Dr. Duperval because I appreciate her matter-of-fact manner and her efficient office. I went to her Murray St office downtown, which is within walking distance of my job. Very convenient! I have never written a review but after my experience with Dr. Duperval's office, I felt the need to. I have been going to Dr. Duperval for several years and really liked her. Her staff however leaves a lot to be desired. I have never had a problem regarding insurance as she was in network. However, the last time I went to her, I received a bill for my mammogram and sonogram. Lennox Hill told me she was not in network. When I called the office and spoke to Helen, she told me she was in network. I received several large bills for the services I had done and was very upset as I never had to pay anything in prior years. When I called the office, all I got was she is in network while my insurance company said she wasn't. When I asked Helen if she could speak to the insurance company, she told me she was too busy and couldn't. That did it for me. After many hours on the phone with my insurance company, I did straighten it out but it caused me a lot of time and aggravation. And while I do think Dr. Duperval is a good doctor and did like her she needs to look at her staff as they are a reflection of her. In light of the above, I am now looking for a new gynecologist. read more

Stay Away! I saw Dr. Duperval for the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy before finally moving to a much better practice. Dr. Duperval is insincere and dismissive to the point of being borderline negligent. I suffered extreme morning sickness, and she not only refused to write me a note for work, she ignored my concerns and symptoms. I ended up in the ER, with a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum. Even after this, she refused to support the hospital's diagnosis, rushed through every appointment, and only asked if I had any questions as she was opening the door to leave. She always gave very short, non specific answers to questions I did manage to get in. I only fully realized how awful my experience with her was until I changed doctors. My new OB explained my symptoms to me, understood my concerns, helped me manage my symptoms, and even referred me to a specialist that turned out to be a godsend. My new OB also ran critical timely pregnancy tests that Duperval failed to do. Bottom line: stay away from Duperval. read more
