At 75, my main concerns were replenishing skin moisture and making my eyes "pop" since I'd recently had cataract surgery. Just over 15 years ago, I met Meleah when I wanted to revamp my make up after losing a lot of weight. Over the years, we have met regularly. Meleah taught me how to apply my make up, explained why some color palettes work well and others don't, and how I can modify my make up for special occasions. She was very responsive and asked for photos of my hair beforehand and any styles I was interested in. Her website is very helpful and has hundreds of hairstyles to choose from! Let me preface by saying I only got my hair styled by Meleah. I was a bridesmaid and the bride graciously paid for my hair so I have no idea how much it was. I met Meleah for the first time the morning of the wedding. She did my hair first before the bride. The bride sent me a set of instructions that went along the lines of adding mousse to wet hair and providing pictures of how I wanted it. I had my makeup and hair done recently for a friend's wedding. When I read the instructions email, I was immediately concerned...there was a section about bringing your own foundation if you have a dark or difficult to match complexion. It also asked that you blow dry and smooth your own hair. To be frank- this is a reasonable request assuming you're not black! Lol. That is a huge undertaking, and is an absolutely essential service if you're paying someone to style you. Although Meleah and her team were kind and friendly, I definitely felt "othered" and it was very clear that there was a lack of experience and familiarity with women of color. The stylist didn't even use heat protectant on my hair before heat styling which is very damaging :( I was happy with my makeup. I have a very fair complexion. But the hairstylist asked my ethnicity, and even a well-meaning compliment was a micoraggression: When my hair was smoothed, Meleah commented on how "wild" it had been naturally. I kept my mouth shut from beginning to end because the day was not about me, yet without having so much as raised an eyebrow- the bride herself apologized to me. I had a shoot with a company who does boudoir photography and they do not provide hair and makeup. I waited too long to figure that out and couldn't even get an appointment at drybar. I got so lucky! Not only is everything again, very affordable, but she was able to cure my incredibly chapped lips. Over the course of the day I watched my lips look healthier and happier. I bought that vitamin C lipstick on clear and pomegranate. I bought the gorgeous shade of lipstick she chose for my look and something else I can't recall. All of it with $10 lashes... What were absolutely perfect in my Asian eyes, came to admit $40. I don't know about you, but when I leave Sephora I've definitely spent more than $40 and I probably couldn't get anything I really need in there for under $40... Basically it's a steal and I almost feel guilty that she is so wonderfully priced. She was wonderful to talk with, finished early, and I didn't have to break the bank to look flawless. I can't wait to have her work on my have again!...oh, and she also does brows and had very helpful tips for my shoot. Meleah is awesome! I had a terrific experience with her and I will definitely keep her in mind for future events! I don't like to wear a ton of makeup. I believe that the "less is more" philosophy works best for me and I like using natural products whenever possible. However, one day I felt like spoiling myself with a makeup lesson from Meleah, after reading about her online. I wanted a simple daytime look, nothing fancy. She was quick to respond and we set up a one on one session for $50 which lasted about two hours in her cute studio (seriously, it is super charming and well decorated). When Meleah mentioned the "less is more" philosophy, I knew I found the right lady! Meleah not only found the perfect shade match for my skin quickly, which has always been difficult for me since I tan easily and I can never seem to find the right color, but she shared a ton of tips with me that I found very useful. I took notes on what I can do for skin care, contour, etc. She told me to come with a clean face and to bring my current makeup. Not only did she show me how to apply products on in the mirror, but we sorted through my ancient makeup bag which truthfully needed a makeover itself. She helped me figure out how to use what I already have and suggested what I should probably get rid of (wrong shade, too oily, etc). I also bought a few of Meleah's products as they looked great on my face and were very reasonably priced. The costs were similar to what you would find in a drugstore but far better quality wise! We struggled at first with what kind of dance to do and more importantly who was going to lead!! I hired Meleah to do my hair and makeup for my wedding on January 7, 2017. Her bridal service was $135 if done at her salon or $200 if done at my hotel. I opted to go with the $200 since it wouldn't require me to drive 35 minutes south and then 35 minutes back north on the morning of my wedding. I thought her prices were reasonable and fair. I went to her salon to do a hair and makeup trial about 2 months before my wedding. She charged me $50 (I had an online discount, normally it is $99) for the hair and makeup trial, and another $30 for a trim for the hair. The trim was not worth it. I didn't feel that confident with what she did for me. I didn't feel like "me". Meleah does hair and makeup for dancers and that's her specialty. She seems to try to apply that to brides and it does not work! When I got home, I altered some of the hair and makeup and felt much better. I expressed my concerns to Meleah and sent her a picture of what I would like to have changed. On the day of, she was on time. I liked how she did my makeup. She certainly heard me out on that one. However, the hair wasn't quite there. She charged me an additional $6 for two small pins that she quickly inserted into my hair, which I felt was a decision she rushed me into (right when I had to start moving my belongings out of the hotel). The main reason why I gave her 3 stars is because I notified her 1 day in advance of my room number and the fact that my hotel charges $25 for parking/$20 valet. I suggested that she park next to the hotel, which would have been no more than a 5 minute walk. She seemed to have gotten the first part and totally neglected my parking suggestion to her. I found out a few days later that my credit card was charged to valet her car. If I had to pay to park near her salon, would I have had her pay that? No. Did I charge Meleah for the gas it took to drive from LA to her salon in SD for my trial? No. She had already charged me an extra $65 to have her come up to my hotel on my wedding day to do my hair and make up. Now she just charged me $20 more. All in all, Meleah's services did not match up to how much she costed me, including having me pay her valet on the morning of my wedding. At least inform me about it rather than waiting for me to find out on my credit card statement!! Totally unprofessional! I was choosing between Meleah and another vendor (2 people performing services), where Meleah was $150 cheaper. Now that I think about it, I should have paid that extra money for the latter service. I will not be returning to Meleah or suggesting her services. read more

Meleah is simply amazing. I have rosacea; it's never bothered me personally but for a new photo/theatre project, I needed to learn to create flawless skin with really heavy eye makeup to boot. I knew I needed foundation but have never been able to find a good color match nor have I ever figured out how to put it on without it looking like, "Wow. You're wearing foundation!" I decided I needed a professional. I checked out her website after spotting her on Yelp and sent an email to see if she had any available times for a private makeup lesson. She got back to me quickly and we scheduled for later in the week at her studio. She asked me to bring a few photos of "looks" that I wanted to achieve, a clean face, and whatever makeup I had already. She color-matched me for a creamy foundation and then showed me how to apply it effectively. Meleah also sells the products she uses so I didn't have to go hunting to find it! Prices were totally reasonable for her makeup, particularly the densely pigmented eyeshadows, which are difficult to find sometimes in certain colors. That said, she also uses what you already have! I had a few things that were just junk but she liked many of my existing products and brushes and used a few of them in the look we created. She did me in a "half-face" so I could go home and practice doing it on my own. Yeah, it was a bit odd to drive home with half a face of outrageous stage makeup and the other half COMPLETELY bare. But when I got home, I laid out all my brushes and new foundation and all the other bits and managed to make it look just like the side she did. I took notes throughout the lesson and she also used my phone to shoot pics throughout so I could reference the different steps for the complex winged eye design and arched eyebrow.... well, it may not be complex to makeup experts, but to a girl who typically only wears mascara and lipstick, it was a whole new process! And let me just say - her studio space is perfect. Ambient music, spacious, well-lit, and a lovely spot to feel comfortable. Hire her. You won't regret it. I should have written this review 10 years ago. I did a pre-do and make up for my wedding. I didn't end up hiring her and am glad I didn't. I echo the other lower reviewers in that she tries to sell you her skin care products with backhanded compliments that try to convince you need her skincare line. She told me I had a football players neck , asked if I was Greek because I have dark facial hair (I'm Irish you rude person!), and definitely took jabs at my acne. I still to this day do not know why I didn't call her out on thatZ I was in my young 20s and stupidly purchased her skincare line and it made me break out . I also felt her make and hair was completely over done and out dated. Prepare to be steam rolled if you're more demure like me , she is a very strong personality. She could have just done my hair and make up kindly without the rude comments about my appearance- my neck is absolutely not like a foot ball players and if it was why would you say that to someone hiring you!? I spared your feelings by letting you know my wedding was postponed ; the truth was that you were just not very kind and very pressure-oriented and I didn't want you anywhere near! You wouldn't listen to me and I let you order me around and wash my face and listen to your skin care spiel before getting what I came for - hair and make up!
