CYCLE BAR @ HILLCREST Parking here is honestly a massacre. It gets extremely busy, especially on weekends. The parking situation just isn't the greatest. There are so many popular spots around CycleBar like Trader Joe's, Oakberry, and other busy restaurants so finding a space can definitely be difficult. But if you keep circling around, you'll eventually find one. I've been to CycleBar a few times before back home in Washington, and I was really excited to try this location for the first time. Unfortunately, my name got mixed up with someone else's and my reservation wasn't showing up on their screen, even though I had it on my phone. But the staff was super nice and got everything sorted out so I could still join the class. They gave me cycling shoes, and I loved that they wrote a cute little note on my locker. The whole vibe of CycleBar is something I've always loved the dark room with the red and purple lighting just feels so energizing. Our instructor was super upbeat and motivating, and I really enjoyed the flow of the class. The only critique I have is that it wasn't as challenging as the classes I've taken before; it felt more like a beginner-level ride. But it was still a great experience overall. I loved the music selection and the energy of the people in the room. Overall, I'd definitely recommend trying CycleBar for your first ride and seeing if it's your vibe. I hadn't taken a spin class in years and was so excited to see this one on Classpass for a good price! I braved the 6:30 wake up call for a 7am class and it was an awesome way to start the day. Parking was easy and check in was seamless. It was nice to have help with figuring out the bike and how to lock in as a new timer, there's definitely a learning curve there. I love how clean and modern the studio is - from the lights to the playlists, this studio is a well oiled machine. Such a great experience! My friends and I took a Classic class with Joey on a Sunday morning. Surprisingly, parking wasn't terrible, considering the fact that the farmers market was going on. Upon arrival, we were asked to sign a waiver, provided shoes, and given a quick tour. First time at CycleBar? Let's just say it was humbling. My first class was at 5:45 AM with Dina, and I was not in shape. It totally kicked my butt--I could barely keep up, went home with a migraine, and quickly learned that hydration and breathing are key unless you want to pass out. But Dina? She's the real MVP. Her energy is amazing, and she actually checked in with me afterward. She's super patient, makes class fun, and hypes you up when you're crushing it (even if you feel like you're dying). If she's on the schedule, I'm there--her vibe is unmatched. Cue the dancing! She's my fave! Also, shoutout to Kat and Angelica--both are so supportive and explain things really well. Angelica is bubbly and brings such a positive attitude, and Kat is spunky with the best playlists. And if you want to sweat the entire time, Marc's class is where it's at. This place is great! I've done 4 rides now! Originally, I booked through class pass just to check it out. I was blown by the experience! The front desk was very helpful. Carly, one of the instructors helped us get situated since we were new. You can check in on the ipads in the lobby and cycling shoes are right underneath. They show you the bathrooms, showers and the lockers. For new riders, you get some extra special attention and they give you a shout out on your locker door. Lockers are free to use. Free water in the back. Everything seemed to be well thought out. They show you the studio where all the bikes are. The lighting is a plus and completely changes the ambience of a "typical workout". The bikes are on a stadium seating style so you're not directly ever behind someone's back at eye level. You can easily see the instructor and everyone in the room through the mirrors up front. I've had Marc, Carly and Audra so far and they have been fantastic. Ive met a few other instructors (Joey is alot of fun!) I've taken classic classes so far which also incorporate the use of the "bar" located in front of your bike. They have a leader board that they will occasionally show just to see where you are. They provide a lot of different classes to include themed rides. And the best part! They give you a cold wet towel of eucalyptus after the ride is done! Love this place and I every much enjoy taking classes with Joey and Cale. Their energy and positivity along with their choice of music makes the class very fun and enjoyable. Edited Review: Love this studio! I recently had an experience where I had a friend sign up for a New Rider ride but had a little pickle because we weren't allowed in class since she arrived too late. Just a note for any future New Riders out there to make sure you arrive early for your first class due to their New Rider policy. Basically I had thought my friend didn't receive any notice via text or email about this policy so I was a little bit frustrated but Joey pulled me aside the next time I attended class and cleared the whole thing up (my friend just didn't check her email). Fantastic studio with even better instructors. The front desk staff is always courteous. There are always GREAT deals for the membership packs (would recommend the monthly packs and/or the unlimited if you ride a lot). Studio is always pristine and they have a solid offering of classes at times throughout the day that work with many schedules. Love all the instructors' different tastes in music and love the utilization of the boards (competitive but not over the top). Cherry on top is the cold eucalyptus towels at the end of class! Also really like the performance summary e-mail after every class to track how well I did. Only one "negative" thing (and this really has nothing to do with the studio, but the location) - parking can sometimes be difficult, especially for the noon and evening classes, but it does share a lot with other studios, a Trader Joe's and Ralph's. This was my first time doing a spin class, I usually do other types of group exercises like bootcamp or HiiT/ circuit training...cardio/strenght training-- so I was eager to try something different. The first class is free, via mobile app friend referral. One class is usually $25, they provide free water, spin shoes, towel and locker! They welcome you with a sweet note on your 1st day written on your locker. They give you a quick tour, and teach you how to clip your shoes into your bike pedal. Your bike has a knob you are given cues to turn your knob to the right for stronger resistance. You also get 2 hand bar weights for upper arm workout portion of the class. The music is so amped! The words of your instructor so inspiring and motivating. The ligthing is dimmed but there are some colored ambient lights that set the mood. If youre the competitive type or just like to keep track of your progress...you can view the leadership board located on screen above the stage/plateform. At the end of the class you are offerred a cold chilled aroma scented towel to cool off! Ive gone twice...each coach has their own style. And each class has a different music genre! Kat the instructor was great, loved her energy!! She's the only good part about my experience. Her class was fun and she was super motivating! The girl on the desk was the absolute worst. I went to sign up for my next class for $10 and she would use any excuse to stop helping me. She started helping me, then stopped to check four people in, go over waivers with two of the girls, try to help someone on the waitlist, and give someone a general tour. After 40 minutes of trying to sign up and her putting me on pause AGAIN I just walked out. If it's a brunette girl with glasses and a septum ring on the desk, prepare to have your day wasted. I never got signed up because she just didn't want to help. --- Joseph, Thank you for reaching out, but she had been doing that from the get-go, I understand needing to prioritize, but either have someone else consistently up front to help her, or properly train her on how to manage that and say something to the person she has been putting on pause repeatedly as to why she is making me wait 40 minutes to be helped. Yes- I stepped out for 2 minutes to grab a physical card because they couldn't put in my payment information digitally- but this was after she had already stopped helping me multiple times and someone else came out from the back to work with me. Girl 2 from the back had way better customer service etiquette, and she even had to help other girls figure out their correct bike and where things were. She said she had it all queued up for me and it was just a matter of entering in my card info manually. So septum ring girl could have just taken in my card info down and then moved on to help the seventh other person to walk up, instead of making me wait for her to help a girl who was on the phone with someone else and not ready at all. The other girls at the desk were respectful and better, so maybe focus on training this specific person. read more

"YOU SIGNED THE WAIVER" -- when we got injured from the cycling class (ankle sprained with a bleeding wound on knee), this is what they told us. She brought over an ice pack and returned to her desk playing on her phone. Being cold hearted is not cool. Know that if you accidentally injure yourself in class, this is the treatment: "since you already signed the waiver, nothing we can do to help." Photo attached is the broken bone when we went to ER after the class. Follow up - the owner replied to this review but didn't bother to DM me. He also didn't bother to ACTUALLY understand the situation enough to know that it was a male (my partner) and not female (me) who got injured. Let me explain the case here - we called the staff who came to say they cannot do anything beyond offering ice and bandaid since the waiver is signed. We took the ice, and she walked away. Nothing wrong with this behavior legally, but not great MORALLY. After sent us the ice and made the epic statement, she went back to the front desk to play with her phone. Maybe the class is hit, but the empathy level is below humane standard -- not an unfair statement for this site. read more

No exaggeration, Cyclebar helped me change my life this year. My wife, who would come occasionally via class pass got me to try it out back in May of 2022 and it was one of the few times I didn't despise a cardio workout. They offered a great deal for 8 classes a month and I've been hooked ever since. Combining this with my gym workouts a few days a week has allowed me to finally get on a routine with workouts I'm not dreading. Results are...IM DOWN 30 POUNDS. All of their instructors have great energy and are passionate about providing a great experience. My wife and I love that no matter what class you end up in you'll have a great ride. I think there is always an element of workout studios feeing a little "culty" and, maybe I've had too much koolaid to notice, but I don't get that feeling here. I look forward to eventually taking a class with every instructor but as of now we always seem to end up in classes with Joey, Carly, and Audra and they are all amazing! Lastly, you will always here people complain about parking. If you're cutting it close to class time it can be a bit stressful as there are A LOT of businesses and other workout studios in the shopping center. BUT if you get there about 10 min before class you'll be fine AND don't forget you can park underneath Ralph's, there is usually plenty of parking there. read more

I decided to try CycleBar because I knew I wanted a class, not a gym, to start my fitness journey. I am so glad I found this place because it has become a place where I have had so much fun being part of a community and a place for ME. Between working full time, school, and having my family, it can feel like I never have time for just me. When I come to the studio, I have 45 minutes where I get to connect with me and how I feel. Every instructor is so wonderful and each class leaves me sweaty!! That said, I really wanted to highlight three instructors I take every week because each have something unique that makes me always want to come back. Stephanie: she brings such an amazing energy into the room that is clearly so infectious. She always knows how to make me smile through the hard pushes and I always feel so welcomed. Mark: I love having him be the way I end my week and begin my week. He knows how to push your limits and helps show me how strong I really am. AM I SWEATING OR AM I SWEATINGGG? I was hesitant to try this cycle bar. I will be cycling for next 50 mins, how fun would that be... but let's try it out. I'm glad I did! I took my first morning class with Joey and he made this class more fun and exciting. If you are easily offended by jokes, Karen, this isn't the class for you. As a first timer, a lady went over the facilities real quick and got me set up on my bike. You don't need to bring your cycling shoes, they provide one for you. Bike itself is self-explanatory, no issue there. There's a knob to gear down and up and there are weights that we used during the class for our arm workout. I really felt like this was a full body workout! I was sweating furiously like a baby pig by the end of the class. There was a short stretch session and a lady came and handed out a cold towels for everyone. I thought that was a great touch. You do get an email end of the class to see what your ranking was based on class, calories burned and avg speed and power. this was a great class and I would come back again soon. read more

Cyclebar offers another cycling option in San Diego that has its own unique twist in comparison to the other popular ones in town. This studio is located in the area of Hillcrest in close proximity to other nice gyms in *The Hub* Shopping Center. I found parking tricky, but always got lucky and got one central in the closest parking lot. There are two restrooms, cute spin attire, lockers with built-in internal combination locks, and water. Check-in is easy and done via ipads which they have two of and the central ipad has the seating chart for those who need to re-verify their reserved spot (done online beforehand). A nice touch is the placement of shoes underneath the cubbies based on your online profile. I have taken Leah and Dylan's classes and both were excellent. I especially enjoyed Dylan's class as he was a great instructor, motivating, and friendly! They have an arm segment too towards the end of class (weights: body bar 4 or 6 pounds). Great workout! I had the opportunity to take some free classes as part of their grand opening. This is the nicest spin studio that I have ever been to. I like how you can reserve your bike online, spin shoes will be waiting in your cubby (go 1 size up), and have a "locked" locker for your stuff. Filtered water is available in "chilled" or "room temp"; no ice available. When you enter the spin studio, it's a big and chilled room. Some of the spin studios I go to are normally hot and small, but I really like the spaciousness of the room. The classes and instructors are great, energetic, and fun. The music is on point and gets you in the mood to ride. The bikes are brand spanking new and there's a screen where it is hooked up to the monitors above. I personally don't like the overhead monitors as it's a distraction, but some people may like it if you like to compete against one another. You get your stats emailed to you shortly after your ride, which I thought was cool. The only issue I had was that I didn't think my stats were correct. I normally burn over 600 calories for a spin class and the 2 times I've gone, I rode my butt off and only burned 233 calories for each ride? How can it be the same exactly number for 2 rides?! Hmmmm. Rather than weights, there's a bar that CycleBar uses. There are 2 options you can use - 4 or 6 lbs. Cool concept but be mindful of your partners next to you as you might bump into them during the exercises. The bikes are really close together, so be prepared to be chummy with your fellow riders! Post workout, you get a nice aromatherapy cool towel which is the best part of class!!! The staff clean your bikes so no need to sterilize it yourself. You return your shoes and towels in bins by the water station and you're done! There are showers and bathroom stalls available that are clean and very modern. I enjoyed class here; however, the distance is too great for me to take classes. The studio is located in the HUB (Ralph's shopping center) on the 2nd floor, and right off the 163 freeway. Parking sucks if you decide to go after work. I took classes early on Sat or Sun mornings and it was fine until after 10am. I normally go to The Rush for spin classes, and CycleBar is a step below Rush in terms of speed, versatility, level, energy, and challenge. Wishing CycleBar much success! read more

Alright, so I'm pretty active and partake in a variety of physical activity, but I had not done a true Spin class until a couple of weeks ago. I was nervous. I was nervous about how to work the bikes, how do get my shoes on the pegs, everything. The only thing I could think of was me falling on my face like Amy Schumer in I'm Pretty. Well that didn't happen. In fact, Spin has been a fabulous experience. I rolled up to the 5AM class. Jen was at the front desk and greeted me with a smile. She set me up through the iPad, gave me my shoes, and helped me adjust the bike. The classes have been great as well. Good workout with the perfect level of competition, and good music. The facilities are really nice as well. Everything is clean, there are plenty of lockers, chilled water, and clean showers. They provide dry towels at the bikes and a cool towels with essential oils at the end of class. Parking is decent. I've only done the 5AM class, so parking was not an issue, but I could see it getting a little busier during more peak hours. If you like Spin or are looking to try something new, check them out. The main reason why I didn't give this amazing place five stars is because I was on bike #7, front and center, and didn't get my results. The manager was kind enough to send them to me, but it didn't show anything, and he said that bike #7 was causing trouble. I think it was just that entire class that didn't get their results, though. I got my butt kicked because I don't typically do spin classes, but it hurt so good. Keara was a bubbly and great instructor, and all of the staff was so nice and welcoming. Everyday, they fill bowls with different amenities (fruits, chapstick, other fun and useful things) as well as a free water bottle. The water cooler is clever because it looks like something you would get beer out of, hence Cycle BAR! I missed some classes because I couldn't wake up, but I intend on taking a few more before my little trial ends, I like it a lot! read more
