A nice place for a private event in Melbourne, Fl According…read moreto their website, Funky Dog is "...a nonprofit improv comedy troupe and theater based in Melbourne, FL. As a 501(c)(3) organization." Their stated mission is to bring improv education, performances, and artistic collaboration to the community. It is located near downtown Melbourne and is pretty easy to find as it is one of the locations that opens onto the north side of Eau Gallie where the road splits right next to the bridge. I consider that there is limited parking. Their website shows a lot that was full when we arrived and I ended up parking on the street. Even though the venue seems to host a wide range of improv performances, from classic short-form games to long-form storytelling and themed nights, I visited for a private event, the Melbourne Independent Film Festival Replay. Aaron, the staff who took care of us was professional, friendly, and went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly. From helping set up the films that we were there to see to selling drinks at the intermission. It is an intimate affair with a stage to the right as you enter with a series of tables and chairs that can be configured as needed for any affair. We were there in full daylight and they had blackout type curtains that did a pretty good job of keeping the sunlight out and the street sounds down. Overall, it was a very nice experience and I would suggest using it for future events.

Think a small art museum with a mini golf course course as the delivery of the art itself. Friggin genius. While this is not like a real mini golf course like in Orlando, there are 18 challenging holes. Each one tells a story and premieres a local artist. The holes are so fun. Apparently there is a scavenger hunt simultaneous to the golf, but we missed that part. I think I was so focused on the Godzilla pinball machine to hear the instructions from the nice guy at the front. And that machine rewarded me with best first ball of any pinball machine I have played in 60 years. Literally a 5-minute, 60 million point first ball. Awesome. Have your favorite drink or whatever before you go and the experience will be even better. Fun couples night out or date night. Have fun. Thanks team for a fun time.

The Melbourne Chamber Music Society hosts incredible chamber music concerts at St Marks …read more I've never been to services at the church, so I cant comment on that. This lovely church graciously lends its home to the breathtaking, intimate performances of some of the finest musicians in the world, including the Vienna Piano Trio, the Guarneri String Quartet , and the Parker String Quartet, for just a few examples from the 2008- 2009 season.. The Melbourne Chamber Music Society, a non profit organization, books performances by world renowned classical musicians who are happy to stop by on their way to gigs in New York or Miami, and play for an appreciative audience in this very warm and cozy setting. And they play at greatly reduced prices, compared to the big cities! The 'stage' is near the center of the acoustically ideal and very attractive sanctuary, and many seats are so close to the musicians that you can actually read the music on the page along with the performers! If you love classical music, or are curious about what fine music sounds like "up close and personal" you should make it a point to experience one of these shows. A little background for the uninitiated:…read more A "Hamfest" is sort of an electronics swap meet / convention / meeting place for those of us geeks who are into Amateur Radio communications. Before there were computer geeks, before there were phone hackers, there were "HAMs" or Amateur Radio Operators. If you don't know what it is, that's what google is for. Yes, the invention of the cell phone and the Internet hasn't completely killed off the hobby yet! It's actually the only form of communication that civilians will have when all others fail. A hamfest is a good place to find parts you need, may need, or just find things you don't really need. It's also a good place to sell all the stuff you bought last 'fest that you thought you needed but are sick of looking at it, collecting dust in your junk pile. They say one man's junk is another man's garbage, nothing can be truer than at a hamfest! There are hamfests all over the country, this one would be considered a relatively small one, the main attraction to me and my other ham radio friends is that we stay in a nice hotel on the beach and enjoy getting away from Miami for a while. It's also a way for me to get sell off some of my excess electronic belongings without resorting to listing them on eBay! We've been coming to this show for years, it used to be better, but it's still worth a trip to find that obscure little thing you can't find anywhere else, or to see an old guy hooked up to an oxygen bottle smoking a cigarette.
