We stopped at Mejia's Bakery while passing through town looking for a quick lunch. At first glance, the place almost looked closed--it's very unassuming from the outside and located in an older strip-style row of storefronts that gives off a bit of an old-west small-town vibe. Don't let that fool you though; once you step inside it's clear this is a very authentic Mexican spot. The interior is long and narrow. On the right side when you walk in there are bakery cases filled with a wide variety of traditional Mexican pastries and baked goods. On the left there's some seating and an ice cream area, and further toward the back there's a larger seating section that looks like it's used for their buffet (which we were told they offer on weekends). We visited on a Wednesday, so we ordered from the counter instead. The people working there were very friendly and welcoming, and the prices were very reasonable. I ended up ordering a cheese quesadilla with fries. The fries were actually excellent--crispy, salty, and exactly what you'd hope for. The quesadilla itself was okay. In fairness, this is clearly a place that specializes in more traditional Mexican dishes, and I probably didn't order the thing they're best known for. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and pastries, this seems like a great local spot and it's definitely worth checking out. If your taste leans more toward American-style Mexican food, you might find the menu a little different than what you're used to. Overall, a friendly local bakery and restaurant with very fair prices and a lot of traditional options. read more

Traveling through Pampa and decided to stop at Mejia's. OMG! A little bakery, ice cream shop and Mexican grill all together. The food was amazing! Flour tortillas fresh, hot and charred...delicious! We got some things from the bakery to take with us, can't wait to try them. They have a Buffett at lunch on certain days, so sorry we missed that. I think it was Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday. read more

I asked for 4 chicken quesadillas $7 a piece, with sour cream and hot sauce. I got to work and opened all 4 sour cream and they are so watered down that I almost spilled it all over myself. As well as I didn't get my 4th quesadilla... yall want people to order your food but this is the 3rd time I've had a problem with my order not being right and taking more money just for your own benefits. It's a rip off and a disgrace. I want my money back and I will be contacting your manager. I also got a beef taco plate with no beans and no lettuce and no lime, I asked for no lettuce and no beans but extra rice, and when I got this it was flipped over and I had to flip it back and wasn't all the way full. So here's to all of the people that have had problems with Mejias Bakery, it's ridiculous that you can't serve your customers with some respect, would you want this kind of service??? read more

What a lucky little town Pampa is to have this gem! I stopped for lunch while in town for work and was delighted by the Chile Relleno lunch with rice and beans; the chile was flavorful and firm, I could tell it was very fresh, filled with cheese. Pampa, you have a treasure and you may not even know it. Walking in the doors is like walking through time and the doors of my childhood. I grew up in Los Angeles in a mostly Mexican family. I'm super picky about Mexican food, and it's so hard to find house made, classical panaderia, but you can smell all the delicious smells of fresh pastry from the street, and a quick perusal of the cases reveals expertly prepared treats, sweet and flaky or tender as expertise demands. If we were here longer I would have raided the shelves, because it's probably been 30 years since I've seen items that looked this good. And I've been looking. Dear Lord, have I been looking. Mainly we were here for dinner and we barely made it in time so I didn't want to linger too long after what must have been a busy weekend day. My son got the nachos, which were incredible. They fry their own tortilla chips, and they were light and crispy and tasty. The toppings were perfect, and the pico was just as fresh as you would hope. I had the carnitas plate. The carnitas are perfect, something I miss now that I live in Denver where they think carnitas means chile verde, which is just sad. Carnitas is not a stew. These are meltingly tender and yet perfectly crispy on the outside. Their salsa verde is beautiful and balanced and the perfect accompaniment for the carnitas. Their retried beans are delicious as is the rice. I couldn't pass up the elote (in a cup, not on the cob, in L.A. we call it esquites, all the same flavors but easier to eat than on the cob) which was absolutely amazing, and tasted just like home. We did get dessert, tres leches and flan, both of which are wonderful. One other thing I regret not being able to try was the aguas frescas, they looked absolutely amazing, so if you are here, give them a try, I suspect they are every bit as authentic as everything else. Authentic and artisan quality. There is something here for everyone, so give it a try. On your way in, grab a tray and some tongs and grab some beautiful pastries to take home with you, and remember to get an agua fresco (or champurrado if they have it). If it's a weekend get some caldo de res, basically the best beef soup you'll ever eat. This stuff is so labor intensive, especially food of this quality, and its more affordable than you can believe. Make sure you have cash for a tip, I couldn't figure out how to tip with my credit card. Whatever you do, come in now. You'll love everything. read more

I love,love, love, this place. Awesome breakfast burritos, the best in town. We go every Thursday and order to go. Vera is the best cook and is always so sweet. There is always someone friendly taking my order. This is authentic Mexican, don't expect Tex-Mex here. We get the egg-cheese- potato, and egg- cheese- potato bacon. Only good things to say about Mejas. The food was hot and fresh! The tamales are so buttery and full of meat, best I've ever had! I also couldn't believe how much flavor the corn tortillas had! I've never had any that actually tasted like I was eating fresh corn. We will definitely stop here again when coming through Texas. read more

This is the only place I will eat taco's in Pampa. It doesn't matter if it is chicken or beef both are delicious. Don't let the size fool you either! They may look small, but they are definitely filling. They will ask you if you want green or red sauce...green is hot and red is not. They also have some really good burritos and a great bakery. My husband and I have recently moved to the area from Austin. And if you know Austin, you know they have themselves some mighty good taco spots. We've been to most of them and certainly have our faves. This little spot in Pampa is just as good as the best in Austin. For sure! We never waver. We always have the AL Pastor tacos with green sauce. They are consistently delicious. You can even have them with a coke right out of the bottle. Be sure to try all their salsas on chips.
