I was told about this place for a long time. So when in Pampa I visited. I was not impressed. Food tasted like it was from a can. Canned wolf bran chili on a hot dog. I guess if you want a novelty place to eat it would be ok. But the economy is bad people don't have a lot of money these days. So when I eat out it better be something better than I can eat at home. What a quaint little establishment. Located on the downtown brick streets of Pampa this little café has found its niche menu. First off expect to find menu items on the menu featuring chili! The original made in house recipe from when the café was started in the 1930s. So of course I was obligated to try the chili dog and it was outstanding! Served in a steamed bun with chili, cheese and onion. The chili dog is outstanding as I'm sure anything covered with the delicious chili would be. Sorry I was busy talking didn't get a picture of the Coney dog. I will return in the future so stay tuned for updates to this review and pictures. Now on to dessert! The pies are made fresh daily. Picking which one to eat might be the toughest decision you make all day. We had coconut cream pie, and all I can say is WOW! I grew up in Pampa. The Coney Island was a pretty good place to go grab a hotdog and a slice of home made pie. The Gikas brothers always had quality food. The Gikas's retired and sold out years ago. I guess their chili recipe and pies retired with them. I recently stopped by to grab a hotdog and a slice of home made pie. I was sadly disappointed. The hotdogs were served on a cold bun not steamed. The chili was not very good. The pie had canned filling. I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Wow this place is amazing. The chili is top notch and the prices are unbeatable for such a filling, delicious meal. Here's something totally random but I know my fellow review-readers will appreciate: the bathroom is SPOTLESS. As well as the kitchen (because oddly, you have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom). For a greasy spoon diner who's specialty is chili...totally unexpected. We really wanted to like this place, if only because they have awesome pies however; after two visits I will never be back again! First, they DO NOT have a public restroom! They have a huge sign in their front window that states this and also states that the bathroom they do have is for "Employees Only"!! What a turn off....So, if somebody was sick and needed to throw up they would just throw up inside the restaurant? What about families with children? This is just too weird! HOW IS THIS EVEN LEGAL???????????? Second, their servers really need a lot better training! I do realize that Pampa is an extremely small town and they probably don't have a big selection of prospective employees, but that is no excuse for a RUDE server, ever! My daughter and I ate lunch here on Saturday, July 27, 2019 and while our server seemed nice enough, she was clueless about customer service. We had chili and grilled cheese sandwiches ~AND~ we had planned on ordering some pie for dessert, but our server just walked by our booth and slapped our ticket down and walked on by. She never asked if we wanted anything else or even thanked us. WHO DOES THAT? Would anybody want to be treated that way? Therefore, we paid our bill and did not leave her a tip & we went to Braum's for ice cream sundaes. Braum's never treats us like we are unimportant. We won't be back. read more

Although this isn't the old cafe glistening in modern decor, you must overlook the aging wall panel, the old Elvis mugs & alarm clock & ink stamps that serve no purpose but to take up space on the shelves. But you know what? It gives it this unique character you won't find in west Tx. Particularly the old cafe sign nestled between the pie case & coffee grinder! So after your done perusing the $1.75 coney or $2.25 hamburger menu, try the coney with chili that is a homemade coney "sauce" or do both! On a cold day line up early for the delicious stew! Been going to The Coney for years. Coneys (chili dogs), ham sandwiches, and hamburgers. All come doused in chili, mustard, and onions unless you specify otherwise. I like to order my piece of homemade pie and eat it before my ham and cheese no onions and cheese Coney no onions come to the table. Just don't ask for ketchup!!! read more

When you step into this place, it's like stepping back into time, which is really cool. I grew up going to Coney Island, watching as two old men cooked the food, while, at times, yelling at the waitresses when they thought they messed things up. Well, although the guys have passed away, Coney Island is still very authentically Coney Island. It's one of those places Pampans very quickly want to introduce strangers to. Well based on the great reviews this establishment had, we thought it would be worth a try. It must have gone downhill since the previous reviews. After seeing the coneys cooking on the griddle, I ordered the burger. The coney's were small, like a 8-1 or 10-1 in size. The bright red type. Like I said I got the burger with chili and cheese. My wife ordered just a cheese burger, but they gave her chili as well. They come out on a small dessert plate with no room for chips, which was the usual Frito/Lay variety in individual bags. The burgers came out so fast, they had to be precooked and just put on the grill to melt the cheese. The chili, well if that is homemade, please don't enter any cook-offs, because it was terrible. Maybe since it was a Saturday we visited, they ran out of the homemade stuff and just opened some canned chili, because that is what it looked like and tasted like. We only ate a couple of bites of our food and headed to Taco Bell. Trust me, if you sit @ a booth, not table, you won't miss the scenery as it is well within view. As for a soda fountain, the only one they had was a standard Coke machine that any restaurant has now a days. Pies, yes they had pies, everywhere, on the counter cases, behind the counter in cases. Looked like they were expecting a large crowd with all I saw. Another concern was the pies were not refrigerated and looked like some should have been. I really don't like writing bad reviews, but I feel like I was misled by the wonderful reviews this place has and I hope to save others from wasting their money like we did. read more

When I was a kid - a long time ago, the Coney Island was like a little place in heaven! If you ran, you could be there in maybe three minutes from Pampa Junior High. For a quarter, you got two delicious chili dogs and a coke. A hot steamed bun, a steamed weiner, chopped onions, mustard, and chili. But that was then - and any resemblance between the business that is in that location and what used to be there is totally by accident and not intentional. The food is... terrible is a good description and totally overpriced. In fact, if they were giving it away, it would be overpriced. My advice - there are other places to eat. read more

I've always known this place to be 5 stars, but that was officially confirmed while I was on business trip in New York. I went to this place called Newest Lunch that was touted as New York's version of Coney Island in Detroit. I've seen the coney island in Detroit on food network, so I thought I'd go I check it out. The hot dogs were alright, but their chili was no bueno! I can confidently say Coney Island (Pampa) would win a taste test with Newest Lunch. And if Newest Lunch is comparable to Coney Island in Detroit, then Coney Island in Pampa wins that too. Everything here is great! I also love that the tables are supplied with Louisiana Hot Sauce, the best hot sauce ever! And the fact that they have great buttermilk pie as well makes this place number 1. read more

This is that kind of restaurant that I think of as the "hometown dive". I live out of town but I always go to coney when i get into town because i knew it growing up and I'm comfortable with it. It is a little dusty but it has been there for a long time. read more

This place has freaking awesome pie and it is cool going to a place like this and sitting on a bar stool. My issues is that for a place that Prides itself on chili, it was not any good. I guess they can't really taste the food with all the people smoking in there. I gets 3 stars because of the pie otherwise one star at best. So get a piece to go. read more

The prices are cheap, the food is satisfying, and the whole place just has a retro charm. They also have pies that are super good. Oh My should have read CW's review before going. We went there and ordered the egg and ham sandwich, cheeseburger and chili. Ham and egg was about the best (if that is what you want to consider the best). I do however have to disagree with CW about the Chili. I have had can chili that has tasted better than what we there. It was gross, even looked gross. Place did get pretty busy which makes me think people actually like that place, but personally I don't recommend. Try at your own risk. read more
