First, the cashier was more interested in her phone and finding a hairstyle than to be bothered to interact with the people in front of her. Today is March 28th, and their coffee mate HALF and HALF HORIZON expires on March 27th, but they still put it there. They often have many foods that have expired for many days, but they sell them at the original price. Many people don't read the date, and after a few days of buying them home, the milk has a strange smell and can't be eaten. Store review: How can two meijer be so different? I read the reviews and was thinking it couldn't be that different because the meijer is a corporate store... I was wrong. First the store itself is a lot smaller than the one in Champaign. I agree that the layout is completely weird and someone should be fired. You walk in and you get the fresh fruit/vegetable that transitions into the normal grocery shelves, but where is the dairy milk and frozen food. I love my Meijer store, the one in Urbana and Champaign are both pretty awesome, but the store I use most because of proximity, is Urbana. Sure there was a little inconvenience while they were remodeling, but look at the new pretty store we have, and I love the layout. They have started helping customers bag too, which is awesome. They have great service and helpful employees (Meijer employees are hands down way more helpful and polite than Walmart employees). I only go someplace else for specialty items, and items that Meijer doesn't carry. They have great produce and meats and fresh bakery items. I order 3 dozen donuts every Saturday for work, and the Meijer bakery boxes them up and has them ready for me; Bakery peeps are super friendly and helpful. read more

I am not understand this new process in morning checking out or I should say it's new to me. I am an early riser and also use to be an early shopper until.............. today. I do not understand how it's ok to pay an employee to stand and watch you check out your own groceries, bag and pay for them while that employee stands and does nothing! It's called customer service of which I find you do not receive at Meijer if your an early shopper or have a bad shoulder. It takes a lot for me to even put groceries in the cart (I am extremely independent, I can do it myself) then going to the check out unloading is again a challenge to me....it was an awesome break for me to have your employee check me out and bag my groceries. NOW THEY DON'T DO THAT AT 6:30 A.M. I get to do it myself. Wow and you want me to shop there!! That's a "NO"! I can't imagine what is going on with the online shopping at the Urbana Meijer. My shopper is great, so that part is fine. But what is going on with the restocking? Every time I shop, more and more items are listed as "out of stock" and remain that way week after week until they are eventually just dropped off the list. Those lists get shorter and shorter each time. It doesn't matter whether it is fresh, frozen, bakery, deli, dry good, etc. Things go through the same process: out of stock and then off the list. If you don't have a mask or you don't want to wear a mask then the store to shop at his Meijer! Because even though they have a sign stating that you need a mask they are not in forcing it. Upon arrival as some multiple people coming in the store or already in the store without a mask on and when I went up to the front desk they said because of Hippa violations they can't ask the people why they don't have one on. To my understanding the other stores are stopping customers from coming in except Meijer. A lady confronted me about it and said she can't breathe in them and my daughter said well no one else can't either! She then said well if they want me to wear a mask they should give me a mask this is still a free country! This store is a wonderful place to shop. I don't feel rushed of pressured when I shop here. The Sales Associates are very friendly. They are also very knowledgeable about what items the store sales and does not. They have always been very respectful to me and are very helpful not pushy or rude. It's also not hard to find someone when I have a question or need help with something. I like that the store offers services like curb side pickup. It makes shopping easy and convenient. I also have never had an item ring up the wrong price. The sales at Miejers are amazing and save my family a lot of money! But the main reason that I give this Miejers five stars really has to do with the people who work there from the management to the sales associates, they do an excellent job of creating a positive environment. I've been waiting in quiet anticipation for this Meijer to open its doors ever since I've moved to Urbana. When they finally turned on the giant spotlight welcoming beacon, I hurried right over to acquaint myself with what I planned to make my new home base for groceries. Boy, is it going to take some getting used to. The layout of the store is a bit baffling to me. I guess I'm not expert on ergonomics, but it feels like they just threw sections around haphazardly. I found myself walking around in circles -- seeing food, then non-food, then food again -- and I swear I saw lunchmeat show up in three different spots. The prices were okay; better than Schnuck's, at least. I'll probably still go here because it's so darn close to where I live and the employees seem nice enough, but I'm giving a thumbs-down to the floor plan that spits in the face of efficient shopping. I'm all for changing things up and taking new directions, but when it comes to groceries, I guess I'm just a hard-nosed conservative. read more

The layout is insane, it's all been said before, but I'll say it again. All I wanted were eggs. I had gone there in a bit of a fog because it was about 4 am and I woke up to my immune system battling a cold. I decided to go grab some Airbourne and tea at a nearby 24 hour place. I also figured I'd grab some eggs while I was at it. Long story short, I spent over a half hour looking for eggs, which were strangely in the direct center of the store, surrounded by clothes (as opposed to the dairy section which was largely labeled and on the perimeter). I have shopped at Meijer a handful of times, and found the cashiers to be fairly rude. One time, the girl helping me was having a side conversation about a controversial topic I didn't think was appropriate for a work setting. You never know what your customers beliefs may be or who you could be offending with your opinions. It was not the venue to have this conversation. I did not want to go back there from my last experience, but they had some pretty good sales so I decided to try it again. As I was checking out, the cashier asked me if I had some discount card, and I said I wasn't sure. She then said very rudely that if I didn't know if I had one, I probably didn't. She didn't ask if I wanted to sign up for one or anything. I think I was overcharged for several things, but I would rather just pay extra than have a conflict with her and her poor attitude. Meijer has decent product and is clean, but they should emphasize the importance of customer service. I know ringing people up can be tedious at times, but you have to be nice to people regardless how your day is going because you're not only representing yourself, but your entire company. read more

HORRIBLE. Bought fried chicken and it was completely raw. We took it back to the store 11/30/18 around 8pm and they just refunded my money. No apologies or promise to do better about not serving their customers raw chicken. I asked to talk to the manager which he didn't even introduce himself and gave me the same nothing happened attitude. Just horrible customer service. I hate their layout so much I avoid the store whenever I can. Trips take at least twice as long because if you are like me and have a list, you will traverse the store 3x each for the last 4 items on your list, in the end either giving up or finding that Cream of Tartar between Fruit of the Loom and Sauder furniture. The dairy is in the junior miss section. When I go, they have really good selection of lots of stuff, but their unique stuff rotates, so dont count on them having kohlrabi or daikon or golden beets or whatever whenever. Call ahead. They have a limited (but very cheap overall) seafood selection. Like many Wal-Marts, they refuse to staff enough registers to get people checked out at a reasonable pace. read more

The Urbana Meijer is one of the best grocery stores in UC. They have a good variety of quality and organize while still having cheaper items. It's a one stop shop. Be warned that the college students do clear out the groceries on the weekend. One complaint is sometimes items are out of date so check before you buy. read more

I will completely agree with everyone that the store is laid out in a very odd manner-- but I think that the positives outweigh that. It's much easier to get to than the Meijer on Prospect, and a lot easier to park. We live halfway in between both and choose this one despite the layout because how easy it is to get there. I've never waited in line to check out at this Meijer, and the staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and respectful, which I haven't always gotten. This week, we accidentally left a bag of groceries there. I called and talked to their store manager, explaining that it was our fault, and he said that as long as we brought the receipt in he would fully refund the money. When is was our fault, I thought that was an excellent example of customer service. They have pretty good sized departments and a nice wine selection. You just have to learn to plan your trip around where you want to end up last. read more

The people working at the Philo location were friendly, helpful and seemed to keep busy stocking shelves and with customers in the checkout lines. Other shoppers there at 11 PM on a Sunday were equally relaxed and friendly. It felt like a safe place to shop. They have a good selection of food and household items, toys, electronics, school, clothing, and pet supplies - they had their sections. The sections are large enough that you'll likely find what you're looking for or something like it. Not much larger than Walmart in Savoy, but better selection. Some items seemed expensive *but I've not been shopping since inflation quadrupled the price on everything down to the ($1) Dollar Menu. Either way, I'd return. The only negative: it was clear shoppers weren't returning items to where they belonged, which made it time-consuming to comparison shop. Also, there was a spot in the cold meats section where there was a water puddle on the floor. The refrigeration may have overheated but it ought to have been better tended; I swear I was here a year ago and they had the same problem somewhere in the same section. The check-out man was kind, patient, and like I said, very helpful. He was the only check-out person around and only self-check-out was open. He still took time to open a regular register ​ to help some of us who needed a little extra assistance. er, thank you. read more

I love this store! I do almost all of my grocery shopping here. I will agree with others, that the layout of the store is not the greatest. It took a few walk-throughs for me to feel comfortable. The meat/deli/produce/bakery sections are much better than the Meijer on N. Prospect, which is the main reason why I choose the Urbana location. It was with much excitement that I stopped in today, their first day of business. The store is beautiful, as one would expect. Clean, bright, and plenty of almost eerily happy and helpful staff. I expect this will all go downhill over time, but for now it's very impressive. Unfortunately, by the time I left I felt pretty crestfallen that the Meijer I had been so looking forward to isn't going to become a regular stop for me. The main reason for this is because the store is incredibly poorly laid out. The sections people visit on a typical grocery shopping trip are separated as much as possible, forcing customers to cut through all the home decor, clothes, automotive crap, and the like I'm guessing for the purposes of encouraging unnecessary impulse buys. Going to Meijer for groceries on a Saturday is enough of a pain in the ass without having to cover every single square inch of the store to get the stuff I need. Forget a quick trip in to grab a few items for dinner, it's just not possible. It's so obnoxious that I can't see myself making a lot of grocery trips here since I just don't have the time or patience for a sight seeing tour of every last thing big box retail has to offer. The other major issue I had was that the selection was surprisingly limited. Their organic produce offerings are negligable. I went in to pick up four particular, and not at all unusual, items and they only had two of them. It really sucked to hike all over the store for almost 45 minutes looking for what I needed only to find that they didn't have half of it. What's the point of dealing with a monster store when you're going to have to make a second stop at County Market or Schnucks to finish off your grocery list? It's much easier and not that much more expensive to just skip Meijer. read more

This store recently modified their check out lanes. In the past, there were four self check-out lanes with no item limit. They were usually the most convenient check out option given that the store is notoriously under-staffed in terms of cashiers. Now, the only self check-out lanes are for small purchases and the store still hasn't hired more cashiers. Recently, I made the mistake of going to Meijer in the evening and every line was four people deep. I won't make that mistake again. read more

As far as Meijer's go, this one is pretty good. It's a relatively new, gigantic store, it's always clean, there's more than enough parking, and you don't have to deal with the chaos that is Prospect (that Meijer also seems really dingy). I often go grocery shopping here because I like their produce section. However, the layout of this store is completely bizarre and takes some getting used to - the frozen foods and dairy section are separated from the rest of the grocery section by home goods and bedding; eggs and sausage are about a quarter-mile apart; children's clothing is between the dairy section and the pharmacy; etc. The staff is usually helpful, if you happen to find someone in that giant store. read more

Great store! I shop here for most of my grocery needs. It doesnt have as much variety as the Champaign Meijer but i overlook that owing to its proximity to home. I would agree that the store is frequently understaffed at the cashier lines especially during their peak times. Why have 20+ cashier lines if you're only going to use 2-3??? Otherwise I have no complaints. Also Im assuming the centrally located freezer section is motivated by energy savings. Which I appreciate, but it does create a weird layout. read more

Mayer grocery store continues to disappoint. schmucks isn't much better. County market next to my house is horrible as well I really don't have much choice. Meyer staff is always on their cell phones. I saw a girl use her phone for over four minutes before finishing hanging the sale signs. The associate in the Deli was on her cell phone texting as i waiting for over three minutes before she noticed me. Every time i'm in there, i leave pissed off w/the staff. It's always the staff.
