overall i enjoy the store, it's every single time I go to check out its horrible experience! The wait time for an employee to check the bags at self scan was a good 10 minutes. she was slow didn't even greet myself or the people in front she had no smile and MAD attitude. I use the self scan option to make sure things aren't being double scanned in because at this location it's a regular thing. the women at self scanned said her name was Yolanda or Yala either way name badge wasn't shown and again she said with rudeness, also not in company standard uniform. I get people can be rude and the job isn't easy, I do the same job but to have a customer waiting up to 15 minutes to have their food get snatched out of their hand as well and be told it's my job, no duh it's your job but you don't have to be a bitch too. It's nice that some prescriptions are free. Getting 90-day supply for regular price is also great. However having to wait to pickup is horrendous! 5 people working in pharmacy but no one is helping at the pick up window. There's no reason to make the medicine if no one is going to hand it out! Should be Store policy to stop whatever you are doing if someone is in line to get medicine. 7:45 a.m. on December 22. Needed to rush in and buy just a couple of items. Not only did they not have them ,which is quite usual for miejer to be picked over. But they only had three self-checkouts working ,the rest were broken. They have completely shut down all of the self checkouts at one end of the store, and the exit and entrance at that end of the store by the pharmacy. 22 poor people waiting in line for 3 self checkouts. Counted 10 customers in 2 minutes not wearing masks. Manager says hi to me and I ask about it. Oh we don't really have a mandatory mask policy. Really? What about the signs outside saying masks are "REQUIRED"? Well we ask people to do it and will say something if we see it but it's not really required. I say, well it's my last time in this store. He says "ok". They require all their employees to be masked but would rather lose a customer spending hundreds a week rather than stop the morons. Meijer is notorious for playing games with its customers. As a single father of two , I do not want to buy five of an item when I need only one, or have to enter my phone number and mperks pin every time I check in as well as make a separate login to my account (with an additional password) to clip a coupon. And the St. Charles Meijer seems to always be short of needed items, particularly if they are on sale (this occurred years before the current pandemic-related supply chain issues. Throw in a large and often awkwardly laid out store, and scanners that malfunctioned for years (they seem to finally have fixed that) and you have an unpleasant and prolonged shopping experience. I used to spend a ton of money there, but a jacking up of milk prices some years ago motivated me to try other options, so the many thousands of dollars a year that used to be spent there now go elsewhere. I now shop there only when absolutely necessary, and it almost always is a less than pleasant experience. There are much better options. read more

Consistently the absolute worst customer service that we have ever experienced in any grocery store, both in the store and on the phone. In the past I have called there multiple times and every time the person who finally answered the phone would not listen to what I called about, transferred the call (and usually to the wrong department), left the call on hold for upwards of 13 minutes, answered the question with nothing having to do with what I asked about, lashed out at me, answered with "I don't know" (and that was the Team Leader, Sandra), etc. When I pointed out to Sandra that she was not answering my question, she told me I was rude. Simply pointing out that she was not answering my question, all three times that I asked her, and requesting that my question be answered, is far from rude. SHE was rude and kept cross-talking, never listening, lashing out, and then she hung up the phone. Never was I even remotely rude to her. She acted as if she was illiterate and incompetent, (though she spoke English clearly) and completely unwilling to accurately answer my question and do something to make things right. I had spent almost 25 minutes on the phone between the conversation with the other nasty-acting staff member (she would not say her name) and Sandra. The call should have been perhaps two minutes in length! Sandra was informed at the beginning of the call that I, like they, were recording the call. One can imagine how Sandra and the others would have acted had the call NOT been recorded. Usually people are on their best behavior when the call is recorded. I have never been in that store where anyone was competent or willing to provide superior, or even somewhat good, customer service. Absolutely terrible experience today as I ran into the pharmacy to pick up a quick item. Upon entering there was an older, male greeter who said "Good Morning". I said hello and scurried down the aisle to grab my item. However, I heard his voice yelling "Hello, Good Morning" and getting progressively louder each time. I looked over my shoulder to see what was going on. To my shock...there he he was at the end of the aisle staring at me with his hand on his hips looking utterly annoyed. He then stated "You can't runaway from me". It made me feel so uneasy and didn't appreciate feeling harassed by their associate for apparently not saying hello. I don't understand why they have TWO greeters at the same door, yet only four cashiers. I will never shop here again, which is also what I heard the person in line behind me say. I never thought I would write a review for a grocery store but this place is a joke. I appreciate that they have recently remodeled and I'm working through the temporary frustration of having to find most products all over again. However, some of the changes are a serious step backward. Self serve checkouts were reduced to a couple areas that only allow less than 20 items. Since the full serve lanes that were open (only 9 of 20 on a Saturday morning open) I was directed to use the self check by an associate. I had a coupon for $6 off that we were then informed that coupons over $5 cannot be used in self check. The attendant pointed to a small sign. So we ended up waiting another 15 minutes in one of the few open full service registers. I really used to like this store, probably on of the only fans they had. read more

Oh Meijer...I both love and hate you at the same time. When it comes to convenience and price, there is no other store so close that offers as great a selection, nor at as low prices, as Meijer. Both Jewel and Fresh Market, both a stone's throw away, are more expensive, while Walmart and Trader Joe's are both a hike. So, I find myself at Meijer four to five times per week (clearly I am not much of a pre-planner!). It may seem odd, but I appreciate the greeters at Meijer who do absolutely nothing but stand in front of you (most are so aged they need a cart for support) and say hello/goodbye as you enter/exit. While unnecessary, I think the greeters reflect some nostalgic tie to the way shopping used to be - which yes, contrasts directly with the mega-store for which these greeters work! When it comes to produce or pre-packaged goods, Meijer is my go-to. It offers a huge selection, and the prices, as I mentioned before, are low. Meijer also has decent toy, greeting card/stationary, and craft departments. The one thing lacking here that both Target and Walmart offer is a strong home brand, like Threshold, Smith & Hawken, Pillowfort, or BHG. Meijer does not have anything along the likes, and I find it difficult to spot "cute" home goods at this store. I also wish the kids clothing, pet and garden departments had more originality, as well as a larger selection. Meijer is always packed, and that is another reason why the store only receives three stars. People tend to meander here, and the store often feels congested. I often leave feeling frustrated, even if I was able to purchase everything I needed, simply because the other shoppers are so numerous and slow. read more

I love coming here with my friend Wanda because she is way too tall and walks so fast she forgets I am too short and I have to run just to keep up with her so it is quite a work out for me! If you ever in need of anything you will find it here at this store for sure. I needed a nasal saline spray because my allergies are acting up so I found it just for the right price. I love to walk by the plants. The flowing plants are so beautiful. I loved a nice jacket for my chihuahua rocky but I end up not buying it because I need to stop spoiling this dog. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I am a senior and spent over an hour this morning trying to complete a grocery list of a dozen items. I asked 3 employees for two items I couldn't locate. I was given a run around and the last employee started looking and after a few minutes I asked if she was still looking and she said "no". Well when was she going to tell me to stop waiting? She told me to go to customer service in the front of the store! ‍ From the back of the store I go ask customer service where the items are and the woman there says she's not sure after I tell her they are not where she thought they were. I asked if she could look the items up and she said "no". I asked how I was to find them, since she was sure they carried them? "I don't know " she answered. When I said this was the worst customer service and the people on the floor were of no help, she just shrugged and said the floor people were filling orders... A Friday Night Fish Fry is in order. I have never thought of Meijer as a grocery store destination. This is a confusing place to shop. Why? Because it takes forever to get through the check out lanes. People are buying bicycles, huge bags of dog food, car parts, cheap furniture, vitamins and a 10 pound bag of pork chops. However, the Seafood availability rivals any distributor for "Fresh Fish" in the area. Update from previous review -- Pros: the new technology in their self-checkout lanes is significantly better than the old, although we do have to ask the staff to come over to clear an occasional error or two. Also, Meijers' 10 for 10 sales are great. Cons: a new pet peeve though... as an mPerks member, we get a Meijers coupon pack in the mail, customized to our past purchases, and very useful. However, we've noticed recently that some of the coupons aren't accepted at checkout time -- "invalid / item not purchased" or similar -- even though we can demonstrate that the item was indeed in our cart. We've even scrutinized the coupon's "small print" to make sure that the coupon applies. What gives? read more

Don't bother coming here! You're better off going to Walmart, Blue Goose or Aldi! The customer service is the worst ever! We've been here a few times to find maybe, just maybe that obscure item but more times than not, they don't have it. Our last visit I asked a employee where jelly was, yes jelly. She says, and I quote " I work in produce, I don't have a clue" and walked away. What a worthless piece of you know what. I said to her "thanks SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP! She said "you're welcome" and kept walking. They advertise CAB (certified Angus beef) so we looked at their ground. You can buy better, MUCH CHEAPER CAB at Blue Goose! Meijer was $4.89 per pound, Blue Goose CAB at $2.44 per pound and tastes MUCH BETTER! At check out the cashier was having a conversation with whom we thought was a old friend or neighbor. This is by far the busiest Meijer I've ever shopped at- and I've been to several in multiple states. The St. Charles location must have some of the highest sales in the country, because I've never seen the place quiet. I enjoy all Meijer stores as they typically have good quality produce, deli, and baked goods. Because this store is busy, they do seem to have to stock during the day- especially sale items as they run out- but most of the stocking is done overnight. I personally love the self checkout- but they always have numerous regular checkout lanes open as well. All employees I've encountered are pleasant, and seem to be happy enough (as happy as one can be in retail). Meijer does offer a credit card (that is also a Mastercard)- one of the perks for this is that there are fairly frequent days where you get a decent discount (5% on grocery, 15% on general merchandise). The card also gives you between 5-10 cents off on gas at the Meijer gas station. Another program you should definitely check out is MPerks- this lets you earn towards personal rewards in categories such as baby, pharmacy, and then select others for the month. There are also numerous coupons and discounts you can get through this program- a great benefit. Overall, Meijer is my favorite grocery chain- but I think I'll stick most often to my quiet Elgin location :) read more

Meijer and I have a dysfunctional relationship. I love to go there because it is close to home, convenient, prices are okay, all-in-one shopping but I always come home with a story of someone being a jerk (customers or employees). The other day I called the customer service desk from one of their red phones and asked for someone to open a dressing room for me. The woman asked where I was. I'm not sure, but I don't think there are any other dressing rooms. Anyway, she finally came over and did not say a word to me. I said hi, someone has been in the other room for a while She smirked and walked away. I wanted to communicate non-verbally as well with a one finger wave. I have learned that going to Meijer requires a couple of things (especially on the weekend): 1) Do not plan to get out of there quickly. Go with the mindset that you will be there for a while, especially when trying to check out. 2) Don't expect friendly employees. You won't be disappointed this way. 3) Don't expect friendly customers. Most customers do not follow the first 2 rules here and are agitated. 4) Go with the attitude that everyone else is a joke. Watch the unhappy customers, unhappy employees, and those of us that follow the suggestions listed in 1,2, & 3. You'll know which ones we are. Stay relaxed and you'll be fine. read more

All the Meijer in st-charles is unfortunately going downhill. Today I went to go inside and pick up my prescription at 8:30 PM only to find out the doors on that side of the building were locked. When I went inside I asked customer service why the doors were locked and they said their manager instructed them to be locked at 8. Why would you lock the doors at 8 when the pharmacy is still open until 9? Dumbest idea they've ever had. After getting my prescription I was going to go shopping and buy my monthly shopping list but I was so frustrated that I decided to go to Jewel and spend my money on a facility that has all their doors open. The Night Shift manager is super rude. We were trying to purchase a Pokémon box which was placed in the wrong location and rang up as 20 dollars more expensive than where it was located. When we told the self check out guy he quickly raised his voice and loudly stated "you're the fifth person who has done this today." Since he decided to yell at us for inquiring over a price we asked to speak to the manager and she stormed over and started causing a scene. Stating that she "had Just moved them to the correct place" and saying "check the barcode". Like everyone who shops at the grocery store checks the barcode before putting something in their cart. This was terrible customer service, we could have been the 10th person to ask this question, the respect and level of tone especially form a manager should never have thrown been thrown out the window like she did. She didn't even try to explain in a nice tone or even be friendly at all. What kind of service is that? Meijer needs to do better, the employees should never raise there voices over a question and the manager should not raise there voice to the point that the customers are all watching her yell at us.
