Pros- It's basically around the block. I can always find a very good parking space. Even on a Sunday afternoon, it's not overwhelmingly crowded. The workers are SO nice. Like- friendliest people around and they always remember me and say hello with big smiles! Great generic items and sales. Self checkouts are always up and running (unlike Wal-Mart in OH...) Cons- When the deli is crowded, it's crowded!! Can't knock em though- they take their time with each shopper and I love that. I am a retired disabled senior and have a hard time getting to the store, shopping, loading and unloading the car. Tried Walmart grocery delivery (but prices got too high) and problems with website. Started Meijer online shopping and delivery. Prices OK for store-name brands (but going up, I buy the same stuff and keep list and check prices)--prices going WAY up, even store brands. Always have problems getting fresh fruit (strawberries mushy), & veggies soft (bags of lettuce turning grey/slimy), cole slaw from deli grey colored/past shelf date. I Pay for delivery and when a certain driver delivers, A., he once was over an hour late (food was in his HOT car over an hour--meat and frozen items and dairy were all WARM, ice cream totally melted). Always getting emails to give big tip (I am on retirement income and cannot give 15% tip-I give what I can afford). Check Meijer weekly ad online prices with Jewel and Pete's Market and Amazon - Meijer just as high priced or higher. Quality dropping. Absolutely idiot employees. No one that works there has a clue what they're doing. They need training. Corporate isn't better. Headaches upon headaches. They always have tons of expired food on the shelves, cannot even fill 50% of a pickup order because the employees are too lazy to find the items, then you go in the store and find the rest of the items you ordered for pickup. On a recent Thursday, I was doing shopping for a local food pantry. Prior to that Thursday, I had tried to redeem a few online coupons. For whatever reason the register would not recognize them. I contacted customer service and was given a $30.00 coupon to replace the digital coupons I could not redeem. Also, tech services was going to look into the problem. So, I knew I had at least $30.00 in savings to spend. I'm at the self-checkout and my digital coupons are being recognized. A cashier is hovering as I swipe my items. He asks if everything is okay. So my radar turns on but I'm fine since I know I'm not doing anything wrong. Luckily, my other digital coupons are being redeemed. $60.00 of savings on a $100.00+ bill that was for charity! When I finished, the manager came and asked to look at my receipt because "something was wrong with the register." I was cool but I was MAD! I mentioned that I had redeemed digital coupons. Didn't apologize, just reluctantly acknowledged that my coupons were legitimate. The store director emailed me, apologized for the "inconvenience" but the manager acted appropriately since she was notified that something was "wrong". Nothing was Wrong I told the director! While self-checking out in the 20 items or less, I asked for assistance with a thing that didn't have the entire clearance tag. She scanned the item, and it showed the marked-down price. As I continued to scan my items, she stepped over and voluntarily scanned my water and bubbly. While I appreciate the assistance, I didn't ask for it. It's a way to approach someone when handling a transition. Instead of asking if I would like her to scan my items, she said, "Let me scan these for you." I was thrown off by her randomly volunteering; it was apparent that she was paying very close to my transaction. Not that I have a problem with being monitored or policed in stores, but I am a BLACK WOMAN, and this is a very exhausting narrative. What was more concerning is that another customer started checking out, and she had over 75 plus items in her buggy. Not once did I see her step to her cart with a scanner to assist her voluntarily. She stepped far away as she checked out. This customer had plenty of items that she could have scanned, just like she did so without my approval. I asked for assistance with my mperks of course she couldn't assist me. I was told to go to customer service. What became more frustrating was when I realized she was behind me in the line waiting for customer service and left her area while the other customers were checking out. Based on the conversation with the person waiting for her, she left her position before her break to purchase three scratch-offs while still on the clock. Normally I shop at the Flossmoor location but I decided to shop here because I was close to home. However, after this experience, I will make a personal note to stick with my preferred location. I want her to mind the business that pays her not mind my business. Assist when inquired of and know how to handle the transactions in your area. Make it make sense. Stop policing me. read more

We go every Saturday and use the self check out. There's always plenty of employees watching and helping everyone. On my way out of the store, while my son was having a tantrum, an employee asked to see my receipt for a frozen pizza. It was humiliating because he wasn't asking others for receipts and literally only asked to see mine and for a frozen pizza. He saw I paid for it- and I said DUH! If you're going to ask to see receipts, then ask everyone- I'm a single mom buying groceries, I come every week, you guys watch me scan every item at set check out. Are your workers sexist, racist, or hate young people or all of the above?? Seriously what is that guys problem? Someone needs to talk to that guy and stop him from treating customers like criminals. I told him I'm never coming back for embarrassing me when I already felt embarrassed that my kid was throwing a fit. You singled me out and embarrassed me and my son for a frozen pizza that was mine. I called the store to complain, left my info and they said I would receive a call back. No one ever called me back. I'm disappointed and never going to another meijer store. Does anyone else feel like this Meijer always smells like stale smoke and lower standards?! I live in Orland Park but I will drive all the way to Homer Glen from now on bcuz I hate coming here. .....and maybe Mary M. was just having a bad day today, and she kinda met me (if she would have looked up) on my bad day. SO RUDE!! No "hi," no conversation, zero eye contact and no "thank you" or "bye" - all I got from her was her complaining to a co-worker in front of everyone about how her light was off but I and everyone behind me failed to realize that so now she has to stay later. This angers me so much!! I've been up and out the door since 7:30am and work downtown Chicago, but was still not rude to Mary M. at 6:50pm, and I haven't even been home yet. I kinda like that this is not one of the gigantor superstores. Helps me keep my focus on why I go to Meijer, which is for groceries. This is the only store I have found in the Orland/Tinley area that has a good variety of ethnic foods, real vegetarian meal options and gluten free selections. I have lost my husband in the produce department on more than one occasion, only to find him with jicama, prickly pear cactus or some other fruit that was previously unattainable in the sw burbs. Yea! The staff is generally helpful and polite. There is more than enough parking.The store is clean, the lot is clean The negatives? Shelves can be quite disorganized. We really like this Meijer ... built in an old Venture store, they have taken over the area and really made a go of the grocery store business at this location. This site does not have a gas station - which many do - but that does not detract form its other offerings. Besides all the usual grocery items you would expect, the store also has a neat little pharmacy in the corner so you can pick up prescriptions while you do your shopping. This is a nice little place and conveniently located just off the corner of 159th and Harlem ... give it a try. read more

After being charged for 9 items in my pickup order that I did not order and did not receive, I've been unable to get a response from the store or even corporate Meijer. I love the Orland Park Meijer store! Yes, you are right, it's not like the other "super" Meijers in the area or the one I frequented as a college student in Michigan. But you know what? They took a vacant building and built a business that employs hundreds of people in our community. What is wrong about that? Just get over the fact that it is mostly a grocery store and enjoy it for what it is. The employees are always friend (unlike other 24 hr mega stores), the produce is always fresh, and the prices are fantastic. They blow Jewel and Dominicks out of the water! In fact, since Meijer opened last summer, I think I've been to Jewel maybe 5 times. I shop here regularly and have been very pleased! read more

Meijer: A-OK in my book. Admittedly, I'm not bowled over by the offerings (standard) or the prices (relative) and as a veggie girl, I can't speak to a previous reviewer's mention of poor butchers, etc. I've experienced decent service: nothing amazing but nothing to complain about, either. But there are two pluses that stand out for me and save this store from becoming a place I would never really think about unless someone else mentioned it first, etc. 1. Nice, wide aisles. We don't usually shop with the whole brood, but when we do? The toddler's in the Ergo, our visually impaired four year old is supervising from the cart, our six year old is in a wheelchair, and the oldest two are hoofin' it. We take up some space, even when we're trying *not* to do so. Meijer is the opposite of, say, Pier 1 or Whole Foods & in this respect, I'm pretty grateful for such. 2. Flowers! Their floral department boasts some pretty unique offerings and they seem to last a freakishly--almost uncomfortably--long time. I love flowers in the house (you can never go wrong with flowers!) & next to Trader Joe's, Meijer does a pretty solid job of making me wonder why-on-earth-these-things-are-almost-out-of-water-but-still-thriving. In short? Maybe not worth a special trip, but if you're in the area...you could do worse. :) read more

TL;DR: Rude employees. Never fully stocked. Skip this place and spend your money elsewhere. So I am a long time customer. I've been shopping at the store since it opened and easily it was one of my favorite stores. However, as the years went on it is evident of how much the store has fallen by the wayside. When you have employees openly sharing how upset they are with management, you know that something is up with this location. Specifically, here are some of the issues, that I have had to deal with: 1.) The employees who manage the self checkout stations are rude to no end. There are maybe about two employees who are actually nice. Everyone else could care less when interacting with customers. Recently, during my latest shopping trip I needed some help with the station in regards to price adjustment. The young employee who was stationed, couldn't be bothered to help me. She was dismissive of my request and didn't believe the price I gave her for the item was accurate. I went to go take a picture of the price, but since my phone doesn't have a great lens, the picture came out a tad blurry; she said that it wasn't good enough photo for her to do anything. Now mind you she didn't call to get a price check, which was funny since she was on her own phone during company time. She ended up calling the sales leader, Grace to basically do her own job because she couldn't be bothered to do her own. Grace was kind, professional and wonderful. She helped me out and told me that I was in the right. Grace should be the one to train all staff in customer service. 2.)The pharmacy staff have the same issues in regards to customer service. I literally had to wait 15 minutes till they figured out amongst themselves who was going to go and interact with the customer, because none of them wanted to do it. Seriously, five pharmacist walked passed me, without so much as an acknowledgement to go and chat and eat their fruit loops. Also how hard is it to pronounce someone's name correctly. They get upset when I correct them even though they are directly staring at my name in front of them. I used to work in customer service myself. I know how hard it is, but this store is beyond the "having a bad" statement. Corporate needs to seriously vet their staff and see who can actually work and interact with customers and who just needs to go. read more

I was super excited when I found out they would be opening a Meijer in my area. I never missed the opportunity to hit the one in Lafayette, In. when I took my daughter to Purdue. When it finally opened, I shopped there about once a month even though it was ten miles from where I lived and there were 3 other grocery stores closer to home. It wasn't as good as Lafayette but it was better than what I had nearby. I have been a customer since it opened. Once I moved to Orland, it became my go-to place. In the past year or so, things have started to slip. Empty shelves on key shopping days, "sale" items actually being offered a "everyday" prices and longer than necessary lines are a few of the declines I have noticed. At least ONE THIRD of the time I have shopped there, I have had to return because something scanned incorrectly, always in the favor of the store. I am not then given the item for free like other stores have done; I am only refunded what I have been overcharged. There are so many stores nearby, particularly the brand new Aldi, that I no longer make it a point to shop Meijer. One thing I must say....MOST of the employees that I have ever dealt with are friendly and pleasant. Kory is my personal favorite. He's ALWAYS happy, friendly and on the ball. read more

I really like this Meijer. I was always going to the Highland, IN, location out of convenience until one day was in the neighborhood for this location. It's a smaller store but that's ok! The deli is bigger and the people working the deli are really nice and helpful. I also think the produce is better and fresher. At the Highland location it seems their produce always looks picked through. The workers at this Meijer all want to help and it just feels like a welcoming environment. From now on I'm going to shop this Meijer location!! You're doing a fantastic job guys, keep it up!!! read more

Not even on the first day of the sale. Homer Glen will not substitute anything in the place of the sale items. I am not overly impressed with this Meijer. It is nothing like the gigantic 24-hour Meijers that I have become accustomed to in Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and Aurora. Initially I was excited about Meijer's coming to Orland Park, IL. Everyone's tired of the choke-hold Jewel and Dominick's have on the local market here. After visiting the Meijer store in Bolingbrook, IL several times, I figured this store would be perfect for Orland Park. Boy was I disappointed. This store was a smaller-scale store unlike their Bolingbrook counterpart. There's no electronics department, no LCD TV's or nothing of the sort. They highly advertise that they are "A grocery store and so much more" which is entirely misleading. I don't see much difference between them compared to Jewel's or Dominick's. In fact, Meijer is much higher priced for everyday items (when they are not running sales on something). I think the Wal-Mart turned Super-Wal-Mart in Orland Hills is truly a grocery store with so much more. Especially much better comparable prices on everyday items. Have you ever looked at the floors at the Meijer store? These floors look dirty and pathetic for being a newly opened store within the past month or so. I was extremely disappointed at the fact that the floors looked disgusting. The floors look like they've been there for 30 or 40 years. Even the old value city store in the same location had a nice floor. Meijer's definitely failed with this store. Sure, they might get decent sales taking revenue from Jewel's or Dominick's, however once people see this place/their pricing, the curiousness will wear down and individual's shall continue to splurge at the Super Wal-Mart a few miles away. Would you want to shop somewhere where the floors looked dingy and old? Disgusting! It looks like a horrible concrete job that reminds me of old vomit, fecal matter and dirty stains. Went here not too long after it opened. I have to say that I was a bit skeptical going here because a super wal-mart just opened up not too far from my house either. This place is a lot less hectic than wal-mart and the produce seems to be fresher. I bought a lot of fruits. The quality here seems to be better than wal-mart with comparable pricing. The store is also cleaner, but it would be because the store just opened. I will have to check it out soon and see if the store is still as clean after its been opened for awhile. Great quality of foods ,great variety, and close to home. I absolutely loved shopping here when they first opened up as they products are excellent and fairly priced. However lately they hire more and more minority workers, which is totally fine but you can tell they only hire most of them to fulfill a quota as they have absolutely no customer skills, no politeness, and for sure no cleanliness. Was there yesterday and the black girl at the checkout took over 25 min to get through two freakin customers, then acted like we re bothering her. Then she hands me my change while sneezing and wiping her nose all over my change money. Not the first time this happened and sure won't be the last as each visit I notice less and less white folks working. Pretty sad world when u have to hire just to fill a quota.
