Not a big deal but I brought my food to my room so I didn't have to listen to them. Maybe Dakota can train them on how to smile and welcome customers. It didn't make or break the trip.

We stayed just for one night & we ended up meeting the owner & many family members who made sure our stay was as nice as possible. For those paranormal enthusiasts it's reported the Lowes is haunted, especially certain rooms. We met a few patrons who were also staying in the hotel & claim a little boy can be witnessed riding a trike down the hallways as well as an old man who mysteriously shows up walking the halls, although we saw nothing of the sort. The Lowes Hotel is quite old but it's clean, neat & has everything you need. My wife and I highly recommend staying there.

Cool Ass Hotel!!!! If you are a Lover of old Hotels this is your place!!!…read more It started with wanting to make Point Pleasant my first stop in my road trip home to California.. Why Point Pleasant??? Because of the Mothman of course... So we embarked from Woodbridge Virginia to Point Pleasant West Virginia... After hours of driving we see signs pointing us in the way of our destinaton... We arrived around 17:00 to the town center a few turns down some one way streets and there we are parked right in front of The Lowe Inn!!! I get out and walk through the doors and up the steps into the lobby... Its like I've been transported into a Stephen King book... Cool Right?? Well guess which one?? Scaning the suroundings I see a Phone Operator's switchboard, old room boxes for mail, pictures from the early 1900's & a small boy coloring on the floor but nobody behind the desk.. As I get closer to the front desk the boy looks up at me smiles, says Hi and takes off to another part of the hotel... I say HELLLO and out walks the caretaker of the Hotel!!! She greets us with a smile and asks if she can help... Of course we reply with the "we would like to stay for one night" Mary then begins to ask if she can see the rooms and the Caretaker says of course lets go upstairs... They leave and I begin to take pictures of this cool lobby... ... This place put me in the mindset of Stephen Kings: "The Shinning" and upon there return we find out that we will be the only ones in the Hotel tonight!!! Mary then asks about ghosts.... OOOOOOO right!!!! Caviot we will be staying in the same Room (303) as "Rob" from Survivor!!!!! Lets just say he freaked out when he stayed in that room!!! LOL I thought to myself what a wimp.... :) So we check in $59.99 plus tax for the night cool right!!!! The Whole hotel to ourselves for One night only 59.99 can't beat that.... The Caretaker hands me a Skeleton Key with a room plate 303... Now I am like too cool a Skeleton Key to unlock & lock our door to the room.... Of course I have pictures of me using the Skeleton Key opening the door. I grab our things and head upstairs.... This place has grand hallways and are long just like in "The Shinning" I was really expecting to see the girls on the tricycles but not this time... Maybe it was too early the sun had not set yet..... We head back down looking to get something to eat.. The Caretaker recommends one of her favorites down the street called Iron Gate... Dinner is over and we walk back to the hotel cold quiet erie but awesome!!! This town is right out of a Hollywood set.. In the town where the Mothman Prophecies originated!!!!! Back at the hotel our car is the only one the street creepy.... When the caretaker said we would be the only ones in the hotel she meant it... Nobody there just the Janitor but we never saw that person or even heard them that whole night... Heading up the stairs Mary was waiting for some ghost activity all I wanted was to shower and get naked... The room has a King bed that feels like Heaven when on it... the decor is early 1900's there is a Water heater to heat the room... This room ooozes Coolness!!!!!!!! If there were any ghosts in our room that night all they saw was my ass and a whole lot of naked!!! HAHAHHA LOL :) Honestly in all of the hotels I have stayed Hilton, JW Marriot, Hyatt, Wynn, Sheraton this was the best sleep in all my Life!!!!!! Never have I slept sooo good and been so refreshed!!! I love this place and will be back in September for the Mothman Festival....

As soon as we got into town we stopped at the statue of Mothman, I took lots of pictures, squealed like a small child on Christmas morning, and then asked the question, "Where to sleep tonight?" As soon as I saw the Lowe, I knew this was where we were sleeping. It's a fantastic hotel with the older elegance of a structure built in 1901. The caretakers were very friendly and allowed me to walk around the hotel taking pictures (there were no other guests) and telling me about the history. Yes, it can be creepy, specially if you read about the supposed hauntings of the hotel and have seen the Shining or the Innkeepers, but it's also gorgeous. We stayed the weekend after Thanksgiving and the family was decorating it for Christmas. Absolutely gorgeous! As some have mentioned the decoration is unusual and quite eclectic, the rooms all seem to be different, there is a banquet hall, a mezzanine, and a very cool ballroom on the fourth floor. Some rooms don't have amenities like refrigerators, the cable seemed to go out for a few seconds every few minutes, and there were no ice machines and such, but the hotel itself was just so much fun to wander around. It was also fairly inexpensive- our bill was around $70 something after tax and such. Fantastic place that I eagerly await another trip too!

I was gonna' give them four stars until the night I ran into a hooker in the hallway - seriously…read more.. At first glance, this place seems like a dive that you wouldn't stay at. However, the rooms are very clean and so are the bathrooms (see my attached pix). This one is conveniently located right next door to the Holzer Medical Center - within walking distance! Also, keep in mind that there are not a lot of choices in Gallipolis, OH. The rooms are very clean and have kick ass air conditioning in case you are visiting Gallipolis in the summer time. Room entrances are located inside, NOT outside - one of the reasons we chose this place was because they had interior room entrances. A couple of nights into our stay, we realized that they do not lock the external doors - what's the point in this? We might as well have external entrances to our rooms. Let's talk about the hooker now... our group was standing in the hallway late one night and noticed some chick in orange hot pants step out of the door and then wave at us. It was kind of weird and I wasn't sure what to think at first. Then, I noticed she walked by the same door again - about five minutes later, she came back inside and approached our group with a question. She wanted to know if they still served coffee in the lobby. Now that she was up close, it was more than obvious that she was a hooker. All in all, she caused no harm, but the fact that anyone can walk up and down the hallways any time of the night means that this place isn't as safe as it seems. One more thing to add - the family that owns/runs this place is VERY, VERY, VERY friendly - I can't say enough about how they make you feel at home. I would probably stay there again, but they do need to address the security and climate control of the common hallways - that would bring them up to four stars.

All the motels we found on our way were disgusting! Horrible smells, not very clean! Finally, around 4 am in the morning, we came across this motel! And what a relief!!! Inexpensive and CLEAN!!!! The room had a clean scent, the linens were nice and clean, the bathroom nice too! Nothing fancy, but when you want to spend a night or two and not break a bank, this is the place to go! Whistlestop is located at the end of a dirt road (literally off the beaten trail), so don't be too worried if you wonder if you're going the right way--keep going back the road and it's just over an old rail line. The B&B is the basement of an old farm house and the room is spacious. As Brian mentioned, the room had a queen size bed, couch, working fireplace, pool table, kitchenette, and private bath. The owners, Sherry and Mike, were a delightful couple and we had a chance to peak into their beautifully renovated kitchen and meet their lovable boxer, Lucy. Tons of snacks to pick from, but easily the best were the homemade sticky buns and chocolate chip cookies. Sherry stocked the fridge and pantry with breakfast items for the next day (yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, breakfast bowls). Brian enjoyed a couple rounds of pool while I feasted on several hours of HGTV's "Property Brothers" on the biggest flat-screen TV I've seen in someone's house (60-inch?). The bed was cozy, covered with beautiful colored linens, and I think if you wanted to leave the blinds open, you could wake to a beautiful sunrise amongst the nearby trees. I woke up early Sunday morning to do a bit of reading and enjoy a cup of tea by the fireplace. Perfection. Since we were there in late March, we didn't get to enjoy this amenity, but there is a fire pit so you can make some s'mores (yes, they provide all the fixings for that too). I need to ask Brian when we can go again...it was a great weekend to unplug and just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Columbus. (although, they have free Wifi, just in case you need it :) )
