I am giving five stars because they offer FRESH FRUIT and it is actually good! It's part of their…read morecomplementary breakfast. It is a touch that goes such a long way for a weary traveler. One of the banes of traveling is a lack of access to a nice bowl of fruit or a salad that isn't wilted. It's very hard to come by anything fresh. All of our food has to come from restaurants. Chain-hotels that actually offer something to help this misery are so few and far in-between. I'm very grateful for a pop of freshness. It helps! It can be quite hard for one to be satisfied with a hotel, especially of this class. One reason is that they represent a temporary stop on a journey, away from familiar comforts. So, you're already aggravated before you get there and then they never seem to meet your needs, as if travelers are just happy enough to have access to a toothbrush for purchase. A bed and a roof! Perhaps the model they follow is that we need so little and are so easy to please because we are suffering so much already by being on the road that we just take whatever old crap they have to offer, like canned ravioli and whatever else preserves well. I'm here because I have to be here. Said everyone who has stayed in this type of hotel, ever! Something so small, like this creature comfort means so much to a guest. I just really needed this fruit. Thanks!

The GM of this location did reach out to me about my issue with the late checkout. The GM explained…read moreto me that they do their best, but they are not able to always offer a 4PM checkout which goes counter to the Marriott rewards program which states it's guaranteed. This is one of the most important benefits to me, which is why initially marked my review so low, but I am bumping this up as the GM did follow up and comp points for the issue.

I stayed the first night not expecting to stay a second. I was welcomed by a friendly woman at the…read moredesk and we chatted for a bit while she checked me in. The first night I was in the last room down from the pool on the first floor. The room was updated and comfortable. TV worked well, AC worked well, shower had hot water in the morning. The halls were a bit busy and noisy with kids/parents until 11pm but then quieted down. I was delayed with a friend so checked into the Inn for a second night. When I arrived, the man behind the counter was not friendly, on the phone speaking loudly and ignoring me until he ended the call. I was placed in the building just beyond the pool house building, first floor. The room was not as updated as the first. The toilet required holding the handle down to flush. The TV took a bit to warm up and show all the channels in the guide. I did appreciate having the Hallmark channel available. Luckily they added extra electric outlets near the bed. The Inn is located right next door to Bob Evans and just down the road from Walmart and other stores to shop at. If in the area, I would stop here only because the price was right.

First off, we booked for 3 nights. Found out there was a festival about 50 miles away, so they…read moredrastically increased the rates. our room key didn't work on the second day. Someone from management who spoke almost no English thought we were only there 2 days, so when they added Friday night onto our stay, the room was now $370 FOR THAT ONE NIGHT!!! The room was very basic, dated layout and dirty. The tops of the bed hadn't been dusted in months, the toilet was moldy and kept flushing itself and refilling. Breakfast was very minimal with the "hot" portion served at 7:30 when breakfast started at 6:30. The only fresh fruit was apples and some had brown spots on them. Tried calling on Sunday morning after we got back home to talk to the manager about the bill and room conditions, but she wasn't available. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I have been a Choice hotel member for years, and this was the worst one I've stayed at.

I'm in Athens for business and this room was booked for me by another entity. It's worth mentioning…read morethat this is a Quality Inn now, but the branding transition seems to be slow (including here on Yelp). Check-in was fine, though I had to coach the staff member on the fact that my room was prepaid and I should be providing a card only for incidentals. She was trying to charge my card. We got that sorted out and she directed me to my room, which was in the back building. Parking was limited near the entrance closest to my room, in part because there's a construction crew of some sort staying here and taking up multiple spaces with large vehicles and equipment. The room itself is fine. Like others, I noted a lingering smell of smoke in the hallways and room, though it was obviously not fresh smoke. I was briefly locked *in* my room because the deadbolt mechanism is seriously broken and pulling off the door. I figured out a way to make it work (and escape), but it wasn't a pleasant experience after arriving and then trying to head back out to meet friends for dinner. Other oddities: the lotion bottle left by the sink with other provided toiletries was clearly used. I requested a late checkout (only an hour late -- noon instead of 11:00am) and was told that would be fine. At 10:43, a housekeeping staff member tried to enter the room and said no one had told her about the late checkout. I was dressed so it was just awkward and frustrating as I tried to prepare for my meetings, made more awkward because she entered the room before the *standard* checkout time. I also happened to be in a room with a jacuzzi tub. Because it's in the main room, not behind a wall or door, and clearly shares a wall with the plumbing of the adjacent room, there were louder than usual noises of water running while my neighbors got ready for bed and then got up in the morning. Would not recommend unless you have a high need for a jacuzzi tub. Also the television in my room only got one channel. If you're in the mood to binge watch TBS from your jacuzzi tub, this is the place for you! It was fine for a night and the location near campus is convenient, but it wouldn't be my preferred hotel in the Athens area.

Other take aways-- Its a good distance from campus. The staff is nice. Easy to find. They have breakfast (not amazing but there are muffins!) Not a horrible price point.
