Absolutely recommend Dr. Lu! I've been going to her for about a year or so and every time is a great experience. She's very informative, gentle on the hands which is the biggest plus for me since I have gum sensitivity. My 6 year old daughter looks forward to her dentist visits because of her she's truly the best. Lastly, I would like to share how accommodating her office team is (Jocelyn). Experience was different than expected. I scheduled an exam for evaluation of a Maryland Bridge which had come out. I had preserved the Maryland Bridge carefully so that it wouldn't be bent and called promptly after the event happened. I mentioned that I needed a re-glue and was also interested in a discussion about implants. When I arrived the office was clean and the staff were taking COVID precautions seriously. The assistant wore an N95 mask and Mei Lu was wearing a PAPR which was important to me considering that I would have to unmask to get my exam. I received the anticipated x-rays and was seated in my chair. I noted the assistant preparing and asked if she was going to do a cleaning or if she was just preparing for the doctor to do the exam. I hadn't thought that a cleaning was part of the visit I had requested. I don't know if she misunderstood me or not but she said she was getting ready for an exam. It seemed like we had the same expectations. The dentist arrived and performed the exam and then started cleaning my teeth. I thought that was odd. I don't think I have met a dentist who does their own hygiene work and I had tried to clarify if they were planning on doing a cleaning at all because I really only wanted an exam and consultation. However, the cleaning was thorough. During the visit I wanted to communicate clearly about my dental history. I had taken time before the visit to collect dates of when different work was done. I thought that this information would be important during a first office visit. However, I was told "don't talk" "just listen". Fine... plenty of dentists like to ask questions then insert their instruments so that you can't answer. I thought I would have a chance to discuss more after she had finished. As she was finishing she said "I won't do a re-glue". I was naturally surprised given my decision to make the appointment was based on her office saying that they do re-glues. I tried to understand the reasoning because the recommendation was very different. I had a hard time understanding if she said any reasoning and the communication may have been inhibited some because of the PAPR but I didn't hear anything that sounded like reasoning only recommendation. I asked about timeframe and how long she was asking me to live with a hole in my smile. The timeline for an implant was unclear but a retainer could be made quickly. It was unsettling how abrupt the denial of a re-glue was but it was even harder that I still don't know her reasoning. I had to call a friend who is a dentist to explain why she may have made that choice. So I agreed to the retainer. It was unclear if I was supposed to "just pick it up" or needed to have an appointment for a fitting. I made an appointment "to pickup" but it was still unclear how much time I needed to allow for the appointment. More importantly how much time I needed someone else to watch my child for. When I picked up the retainer, it was not what I expected. I had previously had an old-school retainer with the metal wire. It had allowed me to smile confidently and eat socially with others. What I was given was like a "whitening tray" with a false tooth stuck in it. While it allows me to smile confidently I can not eat socially with others. I wish that this was clear from my initial consultation and before I had agreed on this management. I did feel like the office staff went out of there way to help give me a ballpark understanding of what all of the dental work would cost if we had to pay out of pocket. I really appreciated that for planning purposes. Her assistant did a great job taking good care of my Maryland bridge while she was creating the retainer. I received the bridge back in good condition. She also was thoughtful to do her best to make impressions as "comfortable as possible" given how naturally unpleasant they are. All things considered, I would have preferred to have more clinical reasoning discussed at our visit and I would have preferred a tone of conversation that had more shared decision making. I can tell that she has a ton of experience and training which is one of the reasons that I chose her. However, if she can not communicate her reasoning to me it doesn't establish the report or clear expectations that I look for in a dental professional. read more

This practice originally belonged to Dr. Tony Cabrera who sold it to this dentist for some reason who does not specialize in orthodontics. Recently my retainers are in need of replacements and I tried calling after leaving a voicemail and not hearing back and the receptionist was rude and not helpful. Her favorite phrase is "like I mentioned" I was simply trying to find out how to get replacements since this dentist bought all of Dr. Cabreras patients and even tried to talk to the office manager who must be fearful of speaking to anyone over the phone because the receptionist would not let me speak to them and I could hear them right next to her. After this she just hung up as I was trying to finish my sentence. Based on customer service alone and the fact that you have many other options in todays world I do not recommend you go to this dentist. There are better options just down the street on central. read more

I see Dr. Lu at her Chino office and I cannot say enough GREAT things about Dr. Lu and her entire dental staff!!!! I got the recommendation to see her because I was having extreme pain and both my old Dentist and even a CT scan didn't show anything. Not only that, I haven't had the best experiences with dental work so part of my problems were from putting off dental care because of the pain and bad work I received several times dating way back to my past. Dr. Lu is so smart, she knows exactly what she's doing and she immediately discovered several sources of my pain including deep infections I was dealing with for some time. I only ever get anxious at the dentist and in my first visit that went away! She put me right at ease and even though my problems were not easy to fix, she has taken the time and worked hard to fix everything for me even though it was a challenge! I can't say enough how this makes me feel.....she says it's her job, but her expertise should not be taken for granted. If you need a great Dentist who is so much more, switch over and you will be in GREAT Care. Thanks so much Dr. Lu! It means the World to me you helped my teeth and are helping me feel better again! One of my teeth had a crown for 15 years. At the beginning of this year, it started to give me a lot of pain. There was actually a leak on the crown after years of use, and the tooth was decaying, but I did not know it. Dr. Lu later explained to me after exam. I went to my previous dentist, he suggest me to pull out the tooth because it has become too short to support a new crown. My friend gave me Dr. Lu's information. After very careful exam, Dr. Lu thinks it is still possible to do root canal and have a new crown for this tooth with some extra effort during the operation. And she did it very successfully. With Dr. Lu's highly professional skill and dedication, I had the chance to keep the tooth. I really appreciate Dr. Lu's hard work. read more

Worst dentist we have ever encountered!! Very rude towards elderly patients, almost abusive! I took my father there for xray and teeth cleaning, we arrived at 240pm for our 3pm appointment, did not get the treatment until 415pm. Very long wait, without any apologies. Then I explained to her, we choss her because she can speak Mandarin, so my father can understand during the treatment. She refused, said no, my English speaking assistant needs to understand me. What she could ve done is just to speak everything simply twice in different languages. But she obviously did not have the patience or kindness to do so. Then I tried to translate, but she did not even allow me the time to do so. She opened my Dad s mouth and closed it in a very rude manner before I even get a chance to translate. My dad was so uncomfortable, He said to me right after.. Can we please just leave... I felt so bad kept asking her to be gentle please..We truly just could not believe a licensed dentist could treat an elderly patient like this. She only did 10 mins of work then asked her assistant to finish the rest. During which she kept yelling at my father, "your teeth is very dirty!" Not just once but repeatedly. If the patient s teeth are clean, why do we need you??! Regardless.. this is just unacceptablely. Not to mention no one even explained or talked to us about the xray. It was a horrible experience. My poor father felt helpless and very much mistreated. I was in shock. A person like this do not deserve to be a Dentist! We will report this further, such an unprofessional heartless dentist. If I could rate her a 100, I would!! I am a genuine chicken when it comes to the dentist. Because of this, I had put off going to the dentist. Then I cracked a tooth!! Yikes! Now I had to actually go and deal with this because the tooth won't heal itself. I had saved an ad for Dr. Lu's office because of the reference she had toward specializing in dental fear/anxiety. I reached out via text (which made it easier) and set an appointment . Despite having the need to complete work on my damaged tooth and some other issues, Dr. Lu and her staff have been nothing short of excellent. Everyone is reassuring and very easy to deal with. Dr. Lu is truly professional, knowledgeable , and calming. She walks you through the process step by step and will always address any issues during the journey. Dr Lu is phenomenal! I had a large chipped tooth/cavity. Most dentists would try to convince you to do a crown to get ur $, but Dr Lu is honest, patient, and skilled! It's been 3 months now and my big ceramic filling is holding up, with no sensitivity issues! Also, she is very thorough with her exam and dental cleaning. Ok. I have been to many many different dentists in the hopes of finding one that is kind, patient, professional, honest and affordable. I don't ask for much . I am extremely afraid of needles. I close my eyes and hold my breath the second I see it coming. Dr Lu and her dental assistants help me through it every time. The needles still hurt but nothing compared to the other dentists I've been too. She is very gentle. My teeth have never felt or looked better. And the receptionist is super nice too. Went in to have my teeth clean. I went in had x-rays and all of their equipment is OLD. After my X-rays they told me I have 4-6 cavities and I needed a deep cleaning. I've never smoke or drink coffee. Why do I need this deep cleaning? They said, my teeth looked horrible. This was my first time here and I just moved into this area. I Yelp this place and this was the reason I came. They high ratings and it looked like to me, all they wanted was my money. I take very good of my teeth and went back to my other dentist in Los Alamitos. I told him what this dentist said and did. He told me I didn't have cavities nor did I need a deep cleaning. I don't smoke or drink coffee so he didn't understand it. He said my teeth are fine. They're more beautiful than others he has seen. He said, yes you do have stains on the top of of the inside lower tooth but it isn't sticking the the tool he used. He said, I've had this little stain for over 10 yrs and it's nothing. So I went back to this dentist to cancel and they were giving me a hard time canceling it. I had to cancel this one appointment twice. They called me about my appointment and I told them I had cancelled it. More grief and trying to get me in. If I were you, I wouldn't trust these people. Yes they are friendly. But once you get to know them, it's impossible to get rid of them. They called me the third time to come in and I had to tell them I've cancelled my benefits. Dr. Lu did a great job with my deep cleaning and fillings. Her office is very up to date with equipment, kind staff, and parking is easy. She is very good at dentistry, as every one else has mentioned, and also has Friday's and Sunday appointments -- and as a working individual -- works our great as I do not need to get time off which is a big stress load off. Also just as an FYI, I asked the front desk if I could use the yelp voucher $50 for $100 Deal at Mei Lu DDS for my bill of a few hundred dollars after my dental insurance and deductible and they told me that "dental insurance" is defined as "other offer". So I guess don't plan on using it if you have dental insurance since it is not clearly defined on the voucher. Any way, it was still a pleasure to be seen by Dr. Mei Lu! read more
