I DO NOT recommend Pomona Dentistry. I was holding off on this review until I received a second opinion & treatment from another dentist, so I could provide a fair review. My family and I were previously patients at Pomona Dentistry for a couple years. The dentist I saw was great, Dr. Demian Choi. He was so nice and did a great job, unfortunately he left and started his own practice. Dr. Paul Awad is also a great dentist and I felt he was honest and didn't recommend any unnecessary treatments. One star for the nice dentists. The problem I have with this place is their deceptive billing practices for their treatment plans and whoever is deciding the random rates to charge patients. If you are admiring their big, modern facilities and how they have now expanded into the space next door, it's because they are making money upselling and overcharging for treatments beyond what you are supposed to pay through insurance. During my last visit here, I was shocked to find out that my estimate for two cavity fillings was going to cost me over $1,000!!!!!!!! I decided to go with the smaller filling that was going to cost me $184 and skip the other one since I couldn't afford the second filling. I couldn't believe that with my insurance it was still going to cost so much. After my cavity filling, I pulled up my insurance Summary Plan Description (SPD) and looked up the procedure codes for what I got. Turns out I was only supposed to pay $75 instead of $184. The second filling that they quoted $835 was supposed to cost me $205 through insurance. I called my insurance company to make sure I was reading it right and the rep confirmed that I was supposed to pay $75, and that if they were still going to overcharge me that i could file a grievance with the insurance company. I was livid and called the office back a couple times, and got the run around (need to check with the dentist, the office manager isn't in right now, etc.). I finally spoke with the office manager, Miguel, who told me that they don't have the Explanation of Benefits from my insurance but will refund me $109. How professional are you if you don't have the explanation of benefits for major dental insurance companies? And weren't you supposed to check my coverage before giving me the estimate like all other medical offices? Prior to this experience, my oldest son needed wisdom teeth extraction before he got braces and they quoted over $2,000. I got a second opinion from another dental office and it was about $600 for the same thing. Notice a pattern? I have completely lost all trust in this place. I started asking for procedure codes anytime they recommended something so I could check my SPD to make sure they were charging me the correct rate. I hated the fact that I was using a provider that I know was purposely being dishonest, so shortly after this experience, I immediately changed my dentist to another practice, and today I got that second filling. Today was my first dental visit in 7 years and I decided to go to Pomona Dentistry for a check up. I met with Dr. Awamleh and Dr. Moran. They were both so kind, patient, and informative. I had to get a deep cleaning and was pretty nervous. I really appreciated Dr. Moran joking with me to put me at ease. He also made sure that my comfort was his #1 priority. And the receptionist with the blonde hair (I didn't get her name) was very helpful with the price breakdowns and payment plans. I wish I took a before picture so I could showcase the work that was done, but I only have an after picture. I was so thrilled with how my teeth looked and felt. When calling to make an appointment or just having questions, the staff on the phone was nice and caring. Each receptionist I spoke with was genuine and helpful, over the phone, and in person. My dentist was Dr. Casey La and he was great! Very professional and very attentive. My hygienist was Carlos, he was thorough, gentle, and he gave me a lot of insight into oral health and how to improve it. It was super helpful! I did go in for a regular cleaning/exam and needed further cleaning done that was not covered by my insurance. They did go over that in detail with me and I did not have any issues. Careful, they will lie to you and tell you that you need a procedure you in fact do not need. I came in because I had a chipped tooth, I was told the tooth would need to be entirely removed and an implant was necessary. I knew this was false and left immediately after 2 people told me that was the only option. Thankfully I went to a legitimate dental office where they do not try to scam you. My tooth was fixed without having to remove it and I did not need an implant. It has now been 2 years without an issue, and I am so glad I didn't do more crazy unnecessary damage to my mouth, as suggested by the dentist at this office. read more

SERVICE So I came here on a late Wednesday evening, but right off the bat, I felt like I had a whole team of experts taking care of me. 1. My dentist Dr. Casey La was the best. Honestly, I am a nervous Nelly when it comes to going to the dentist. I have really sensitive teeth and tmj that prevents me from opening my mouth too wide or too long. I ended up having a cavity i needed to fill. Dr. La was able to address all my concerns and walked me through the whole process to make sure I wasn't nervous. He even gave me a stress ball to calm my nerves. But to my surprise, I didn't need to squeeze that ball at all. The cavity filling was legitimately painless, and he was able to do it so quickly that I barely even had time to get scared. He even made sure to give my jaw plenty of breaks since he knew how tricky my TMJ was. Overall, I was super impressed. I felt like I was in good, reliable hands. I plan to take my husband here, too! 2. Emily- did my x rays, and she was super sweet and personable! She went the extra mile and even helped me get my earrings off and on for the x rays. 3. Pomona Dentistry is my new dental spot going forward. Dr. Awad was so kind and made the process as painless as possible. I used to dread going to the dentist and get nervous coming in after having some not so great dental experiences previously but the whole Pomona Dentistry team made me feel as comfortable and at ease as you can be at the dentist. The facility was super clean and the equipment and technology was very modern. The entire team was super friendly and I can definitely tell they go out of their way to put the patient first. My only critique is that it took a little bit of time to go through everything, but I had a lot of work being done (deep cleaning, laser cleaning, metal to ceramic filling replacement) I'd suggest taking the day off rather than trying to come during your work day. Let me preface this with I have great insurance. I hardly ever have to pay out of pocket. As long as I don't get any up sales or anything the insurance labels cosmetic. I had fillings put on and had to pay $0 out of pocket. In fact I got them done here. They did try to tell me they had better ones that last much longer, but which my insurance didn't cover. I told them no thank you. That was over 6 years ago and they are still in great condition. Fast forward to today I made an appointment for a simple cleaning which is covered 100% by insurance. When I was sitting on the chair the young lady who deals with payments came into my room and gave me a breakdown of what it was going to cost me. I told her I shouldn't have to pay for anything my insurance covers cleanings. She proceeds to tell me I need a super deep cleaning. I said no. She leaves and then the owner of the place the head dentist comes in and basically tells me that they are not going to treat me because I need a deep cleaning not a regular cleaning. So basically he said if you are not going to pay me an extra $200 cash then fuck off I don't want your business. So I left. I have been to 4 different dentist in my area Diamond Bar, Walnut and Pomona and every single one of them tried to get me to pay out of pocket. I used to just accept it because I wasn't sure what my insurance covered. I since called my insurance for a document that states exactly what procedures they cover. Are all dentist like this? My whole family was with this dental office for almost 5 years and I like them before, until recently 2 incidents happened to me and my 8 years old son. We went there on routine checkup and cleaning for 5 years. 6 months ago my son had a small cavity on one tooth and Dr didn't put filling to fix the tooth till 6 months later, he went in and found that tooth was 2/3 gone and had to extract that tooth and not to mention my son had to suffer the pain and got traumatized by all the procedures. And same thing happened to myself, a year ago, I only had a small tiny chipped on my old filling, Dr wouldn't do anything, but suggested a crown, he said the filling too big and probably not going to last. So few days ago I went in again because the chipped got bigger and same thing he wouldn't do new filling but recommended to do porcelain crown which will cause $500+ and I have Delta Dental PPO plan and they told me my insurance will not cover for filling, and filling is not the option for me, only option is the porcelain crown. So I walked out and go to another dentist for second opinion, and this new dentist in chino did a new filling within 1 hour and only paid $44, he said my insurance cover 70%. All I have to say is this office will not do anything when your tooth problem is small, they wait till you have bigger problems and charge you higher and lied about the coverage and trying to get us pay more than we supposed too. I guess the place is super popular and they open earlier than I expected on Saturdays. Receptionist Laura was welcoming and helpful with paperwork and showed me to the rooms. The assistants gave me instructions and prepared my operation. The first of any kind. I was given oxygen or something , pads and IV then helped me sleep through this painless process. Dr. Arwad, you are wonderful however in order to get to you, it is like climbing Mt. Everest. The office manager and the front desk will cause your business to take a spiral down. This is what they did to me after performing an unnecessary deep cleaning claiming I had periodontal disease, which was never true. Doctor also drilled my bottom teeth (good tooth) because he was in a rush to finish and didnt want to shape the filling correctly. I was there a total of 5 hours and somehow he was rushing to finish right before closing time, and to save time drilled my good tooth to make it fit. Furthermore, they wanted to perform oral surgery on my husband on 4 teeth. We got a second opinion, and it turns out, my husband has no need for anything, and it's best to leave everything alone. These people need to be investigated thoroughly and I will be making sure they are accountable for what they've done (permanent). The staff here are really nice and friendly. Mr Choi has been taking care of me since 2020. I had a cavity that required either major work or an extraction. I expressed all my trauma from a kid (had a dentist try a root canal without an aesthetics, major surgeries as a kid) and he took all that into consideration. He made the tooth extraction feel like nothing but pressure being pressed against me. He told me that's how it would feel and it did! So 3 years later (March 21, 2024) I come back for a second tooth extraction. my family & loved ones were all worried but I had to let them know, Mr.Choi knows what's up! And just like the first time, he remembered my trauma, my fear of the tools & drills and he made it the very easiest tooth extraction ever. Since I had to get other procedures done before my actual, regular, annual teeth cleaning I have to say, I was extremely disappointed. I've have had the same dental insurance for 14 years. Not once have I had to paid a penny for a clean up. We get two per year. First, I was told I had to pay $60 I think. I was like, "excuse me." I had completely forgotten my husband's new insurance info. too. So when I have them his info, I was told it would be like $18, or something like that, I know it was under $20. But I had to pay a deductible of $50, his deductible. Again, this is with double coverage with Delta Dental-PPO. Yeah, I walked right out. It wasn't the amount in question, but the unethical way of running a business. My husband went to a different dentist near our home, again, a regular clean up. No copayments, no deductible.
