He was the pulmonologist called in when my mother was admitted to Mills Peninsula. The doctor on…read morethe floor had mistakenly diagnosed her with pneumonia--a delusional great day leading us to be optimistic, thinking with antibiotics she'd recover and be sent home. After a day or so, he came to consult, read her x-rays ... I met him and instantly liked his demeanor, presence: as he looked me in the eye, he said, "I don't think it's pneumonia," to which I further asked, "What is it?" His candid response: "I don't know." How great it is when doctors admit they don't know, which is most of the time. It's fine not to be omniscient. He continued being the specialist for my mother throughout her stages--she was transferred to the ICU, where he'd follow her. After she was put on the oxygen tube, and then intubated, pumped full of every imaginable med, dialyzed ... on the final day after a brain scan, and after administering a "test" for her responsiveness, the morning he told us she was essentially 'brain dead.' His words have never left me: "I think you all as a family are suffering more than she is." The immense kindness in his eyes, without any pressure whatsoever, he was telling us that we needed to stop trying so hard to do the impossible which was to save her, and let go. Dr. Ho was reliably and consistently kind throughout her hospital stay--before, during, and after her life, he was there, unfailingly supportive and offering expertise at every heartbreaking step. After she died of inflammatory lung disease, I wrote him a note, expressing my gratitude. He wrote back, saying, "When I shook your mother's hand, I knew she was a woman of great dignity." Such a gift for him to say. Thank-you, Dr. Ho--your calling is as a true healer.

The wait…read moretime was about 3-4 weeks out for an appointment, but I was also looking at specific days of the week so it might be sooner if you don't have any time constraints. The allergy test itself was interesting and they test several environmental allergens. I also had to return on another day to test food allergens, as well as retesting some of the other environmental variables that I scored low sensitivity on. You get the results after waiting 20 minutes or so once you've had enough time to trigger a reaction. Dr. Anand was so friendly and personable. I felt like she was a very thorough clinician and really took her time to explain everything to me. She also took note of other issues that weren't quite in her scope, and referred me out to other specialists to make sure I got the care I needed. She then followed up with me to make the process smoother, which I truly appreciated. Other staff members (LVNs and front desk) are also informative and helpful. They do have a mask policy in place, and if you forget to wear one, they have plenty to spare. It is a healthcare facility after all and I don't think they should be rated poorly just because of a policy to ensure the safety of staff and patients alike.

I can tell he really cares about his patients. He was very warm and friendly with me and very knowledgeable and patient. I did not feel rushed during my visit which sometimes happens at doctor visits. He is very down to earth and caring. The office is very clean and spacious and well lit. I want to give a shout out to nurse Dolores who did a fantastic job. I highly recommend this clinic and especially Dr Engler.

My main issue is that this office has always felt like a money-grab. The office often recommended additional tests and appointments that did not seem necessary. Although I understand the value of Ni-Ox and lung function assessments, the repeated testing rarely resulted in meaningful adjustments to my treatment plan. Appointments frequently ended with vague feedback rather than clear next steps for improvement. During one visit, I had a reaction to the shots, which was a stressful situation. The staff appeared uncertain about how to respond, and Dr. Zhang invited a medical assistant to observe my hives without asking for my consent. This was uncomfortable and dehumanizing. Additionally, I received the bill for this appointment and they charged me for a lung function test I did not take. I contacted the billing department who said they would call me back. I never received a call back despite following up. I check today to see they have revised their billing statement to deduct that charge. Very shady business that prioritizes money over patient care. I am now seeing a new allergist who looked at my tests and said that allergists should not be administering shots to people with numbers as bad as mine were.

Then another doctor told me that I had reactive airway disease (asthma). Somewhere along the line, I got referred to Dr. Talebian. She is fantastic! She recommended that we do a lung test at the hospital to rule out lung problems. Sure enough, the lung test came back just fine. Turns out that my problem was upper reflux. The inhalers that my primary care doctor had prescribed were messing with the sphincter muscle in my chest, making my reflux worse. The antibiotic I took had also contributed to the problem. Not to mention, I was drinking all sorts of acidic drinks when I had a cold (tea, juice etc) and they were also contributing to the reflux problem, making me cough. After a few months on a PPI drug for reflux, my symptoms totally went away. I now stay off of inhalers (and acid-causing foods) when I catch a cold. Anyway, Dr. Talebian takes a lot of time to explain things to you and she has a terrific bedside manner. If I, or any of my loved ones ever developed any sort of respiratory problem in the future, I would not hesitate to see her again. She is very good at what she does!
