He is the best! In the ENTY clinician world, they just don't come better than Dr. Sckolnick--I called their office yesterday because my husband, never having had vertigo before, called me from his office and explained his symptoms. I reached out to his office in late morning and described the issue, spoke to Amanda who is also an admin gem. She listened and though she was gonna leave for the day at noon, promised she'd leave detailed instructions for the person who'd come in later. I followed up 90 minutes later--and boom, my husband was coming in for a 1:45 appt. to see Dr. Sckolnick, lucky day because he was on call yesterday. He must've had a break to come in for clinic (away from being on call at ER). I. Mean. An emergency and a same day appointment. Awesome. This doc is beyond. Not phoning it in at all, but super on top of it, thorough and combing every possible differential diagnosis, running every possible neurological thing, e.g. vestibular migraine? Nope. Running through a battery of symptoms to assess for brain tumor. Scheduling a hearing rest to rule out other things. Doing things for inner ear anomalies, trying to replicate the symptom of vertigo, god forbid, but also eminently qualified and ready to do the Epply maneuver of equivalent if the case calls for it. He did pull out an impressive massive ball of wax out of his left ear, much to our shock, I mean how on earth do you even know if you have wax of all things? Unfortunately, we were not able to find the root cause of the vertigo, which is good and bad news. We're hoping it's a one off, which Dr. did mention as being one of the possibilities. This doctor is humble and down to earth, speaks in understandable, clear language devoid of medical jargon but explained in precise detail how our sense of balance works, the sophistication and precision. We lucked out in getting the doctor. If you get to see him for your symptom, no matter what it is, consider yourself super lucky and fortunate, because you really cannot do better. He rocks! Btw., what we especially loved is that when my husband asked a question and if he didn't know the answer, which so many things medicine isn't privy, Dr. Sckolnick was upront and transparent in his communique and didn't bluster through with ego. Going into the appointment I was super nervous about my ear however his presence is so comforting and he has great energy! He is a complete genius. I've been to other ENT professionals and they weren't able to tell me what was going on with my ear. UNREAL. I drove 2 hours to get to our appt. that we waited a month for and was just 10 minutes late and they made us reschedule... I was so upset and exhausted I actually started crying in front of the receptionist. Something I have never done. I made this appt for our 3 year old son at this location because it was the soonest we could get with an ENT as he's had chronic ear infections for the last 6 months. I'm absolutely livid and blown away by their lack of flexibility... 10 minutes. Most of the time I sit in waiting rooms for 20- 30 minutes waiting for my appt. Screw this office. Thanks for nothing and for being so completely ridiculous about 10 F-ing minutes. I wish I could give you all 0 stars. I will never ever book an appointment here again. I should also mention that parking is atrocious. I spent 10 minutes driving around the garage looking for a place to park. People stopped in the middle of the lane for no apparent reason blocking traffic was common. You would think a hospital of this size would have ample parking. No one ever wants to go to the doctor but there is a great comfort in finding a really, really good doctor. Dr. Sckolnick is definitely an outstanding physician. I had already been to my general practitioner and to urgent care. Despite lots of prescriptions, I was not feeling better and I was really confused about what was happening to me. So I opted to go to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist. That brought me to Dr. Sckolnick. Am I glad I found him! All of his amazing Yelp reviews and other great reviews on medical websites led me to him. Before he came into the exam room, he had already read up on why I was there. I thought that was so great. I'm so used to doctors that come into the exam room and have no clue why I am even there. And then they ask me, "why are you here?" During the visit, he was patient as I explained the on-set of the symptoms and the days that followed. As he articulated, it's all about the story. I had a sudden onset of vertigo, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and rapid heart beats. This lasted for days. He asked questions, checked my hearing, tested me for BPPV, and did other neurological tests to make sure I didn't have a stroke. Vestibular neuronitis was the diagnosis. It is caused by an inflammation of the vestibular nerve in the inner ear when it is attacked by a virus. I cannot express enough how good it is to have your medical condition explained in detail so that you have a full grasp of what's happening to you and to rule out more horrifying possibilities (like a stroke). I am grateful to Dr. Sckolnick and am so glad to have found such a great ENT specialist that genuinely cares about his patients. I also appreciate how responsive he is to emails from his patients. If you're looking for a great ear, nose, and throat specialist, Dr. Sckolnick is highly recommended!!! read more

I had such a great experience with Dr. Sckolnick. He was very welcoming and friendly while displaying his prowess of the field. The last appointment I hand with an ENT Doctor literally lasted 3 minutes, no options were presented to me and the consultation was rushed; I won't mention the doctors name but I will not frequent her practice any longer after discovering Dr. Sckolnick. WOW. Just wow. What an amazing and wonderful experience I just had visiting Dr. Sckolnick. He really listened to me. He addressed all my concerns and answered all my questions. He was warm, kind, and friendly. He was extremely knowledgeable and he neither talked too far over my head, nor treated me like an idiot. He is just a really fantastic doctor and I wanted to share my very positive experience with him. On a side note, his office at 1501 Trousdale Dr in Burlingame is new and state-of-the-art. I love coming here. Yup. I like coming to my doctors appt. Why? Dr sckolnick is amazing. He is super nice and explains thing clearly. If it is something that might scar or there is an alternative treatment for he also presents it. I first came here to clean my ears. I also noticed a small bump inside my ear that was bothering me. Dr sckolnick gave me some cream as he wanted to see if that would alleviate the problem. After using the cream the cyst did not go away and he asked me if I really wanted to remove it as it was super small and I could have a scar larger than the cyst. I thought about it while I was pregnant and after I delivered I had it removed. It didn't shrink but dr sckolnick was able to cut it open and clean it out and I didn't even need a stitch due to his precision. In my follow up appt he said it healed beautifully and I don't even remember which ear he removed the cyst from. Literally there is so scar or anything! But he is also super thorough and he is also the head of the ENT for good reason. I'm a fairly easy patient just coming in for ear cleaning but so glad I had him to remove my cyst and take care of all my ENT needs. He literally is the best and makes every appt fun and easy. Dr. Scknolnick responded to a call at the Mills Peninsula ER last Saturday, August 31. A fishbone lodged at the back of my throat during my grandson's post Bar Mitzvah luncheon. I rushed to the ER when it was evident that the bone was securely caught and a real threat. The ex ray did not reveal the bone but Dr. Scknolnick was able to use two scopes which he expertly used (with computer screen projection) and special instruments to delicately remove the bone without surgery. Had it not been for his expertise and calm approach (as well as that of the emergency staff), I would certainly have experienced much more traumatic and extended treatment. He was calm, cool, and determined. I was so very lucky to have had Dr. Sckolnick's expert attendance. read more

By far, one of the best doctors I have ever seen. He has the kindest, most compassionate bedside manner and works with you to resolve your issues. I wish more doctors were like him. He doesn't make you feel inferior or like your issues are all in your head. He treats like family and not a number. He genuinely cares and wants you to be 100%. His audiologist, Jenny Yee is also extremely kind and informative. I am suffering from extreme dizziness/vertigo and he ran me through several tests to see if it was vertigo. Dr. Sckolnick was the only ENT in the emergency (thank God) I had went there because my throat was swelling up for the second time in two days. A catscan showed i had a large abscess in my throat by my tonsils. I was so nervous with all the doctors and nurses. But as soon as Dr. Sckolnick came in and started talking very calmly with me and explaining everything, i was so much better. It wasnt a very fun process to get rid of the abscess, but Dr. Sckolnick was fast, and calm about everything. Im so happy that he was the one to be there. I presented to Dr. Sckolnick because - my ear was popping (I thought I had trapped water) - I needed advice RE: ongoing dizzy spells (dx'd 6 mos. ago as viral labyrinthitis) Confounding the picture: within the past 4+ years, I had two separate episodes of hearing loss--resulting in (now) near-unilateral deafness--for which there has been no explanation. So when my 'good' ear started popping... I wasn't about to take any chances. Dr. Sckolnick was incredibly gracious and kind; he listened attentively and recognized my level of fear. More than bedside manner, however, I need confidence in any MD's thoroughness and expertise. I also need to believe that my MD will rigorously partner with me, when there's a problem. They are my source of hope... for clarity, intervention, and outcome. Dr. Sckolnick confirmed the health of my ears. He reviewed my past audiograms, expressing concern about the atypical step-wise drop in function. (As well he should.) In light of this profile, he made a point to tell me that I *must* religiously schedule annual audiograms. I mentioned that no one's ever been able to stop, explain, or address any loss. Other clinicians have acknowledged that they can simply *measure* it. (For that reason, I have been somewhat lax about the timing of my audiograms. +- 6 months). To this, Dr. Sckolnick responded that he'd do absolutely everything in his ability to intervene the moment there's evidence of change in my remaining hearing -- to guard against continued loss. His earnest delivery was so convincing that I had to keep myself from bursting into tears of gratitude. Up until this point, I'd felt abandoned by ENTs/audiologists (PAMF and Stanford). They'd schedule tests and share the findings; that's been it. I have asked for recommendations RE: devices/surgery. And I've gotten (basically) a clinical 'shrug' and some marketing collateral. I asked Dr. Sckolnick for help. He explained the increasing specialization of roles and why many ENTs may not be in the best seat to make such recommendations. I was surprised that no one had stated that, before. I'd been pleading for help, I'd otherwise gotten the impression that my situation was beyond repair or beyond candidacy for existing technologies. After basic neuro-testing and further discussion, Dr. Sckolnick suggested my dizziness was more likely a symptom of ocular migraines (note: you don't have to have pain to have a migraine). He also offered me the option for neuro-referral and gave his commitment to other referrals that might assist me to lessen the impact of my disability. I had been disappointed *not* to get an appointment with the senior ENT, at this location. I thought my earlier viral diagnosis wasn't rendered with great authority. I thought I needed someone with several decades of clinical experience to finally offer a continuity of care that had been lacking. Instead, I needed Dr. Sckolnick. He has some of the most up to date technology and current techniques. I don't think my father's outcome would have been as good with any other doctor.
