She has to step out a few times because of certain tools weren't in the correct place. After she treated me so quickly and not in a calm pace she left into another room to work with someone else. I went in a while back with a bit of vertigo but also a bit of severe light-headedness. I was shocked how quickly she arrived at the diagnosis, and she did it with lightning speed, which is why I initially thought her conclusion was suspect. Umm, not to mention, I didn't want to hear what she had to say! I didn't want to admit to myself that it was a neurological issue, not a vestibular one, since the latter is infinitely easier to treat and fix than the former. Anyway, despite that I didn't want to admit it to myself or to her at the time, she turned out to be correct. She's sort of has a robo-doc presence, and if you've ever seen the counterpart movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. My hearing decreased a bit so i looked a buying a new set to take advantage of changes in technology. They suggested the phonak ultrasphere. These have much better controls and integration with the iphone but to get better results you really have to know how to use the app. They got on support with Phonak and walked through my use case and we tailored the app (from the phonak app and apple dash board) so that i could adjust for different use cases : TV, playing live music, restaurant, etc. The Phonak can reprogram some settings with a remote session. So in my house we logged into a support call and they adjusted some of the settings. They also phoned me a few times so that i could learn about some of the nuances - such as adjusting sound levels of background noises. The Phonak allows adjusting speaker and mic levels as well as mike source. It's no fun losing your hearing as you get older but really great having the support of professionals who know their way around new technology!

After I got my aids, I needed assistance but they never returned my phone calls, emails, or a request for help through the manufacturer's iPhone app. It was worth it to me to pay a "transfer of coverage" fee to Dr. Lao to have her take over maintenance of them. To make a long story very short, the original dispenser put the wrong length wires on my aids so that the front-facing microphones were buried behind my ears making them useless. Certainly explains a lot, eh? Dr. Lao replaced the wires for me and now the hearing aids are in the right place - peeking over the tops of my ears and letting the microphones do what they were designed to do -- pointing towards people I am talking to so that I can hear them. They were going to use a throat swab and flu doesn't often come up in a throat swab as the viral load is too low in the throat. They then did a nose swab, but really they should have done a nasalpharyngeal swab. No apologies and they seemed peeved at me pulling them up on that. They also had me me stand at the front desk for 10 mins answering questions when I was feeling very bad to begin with. Also, some may appreciate knowing they will not meet with an MD during their visit. I met only with a PC. I don't think I'll return - I'll stick to Sutter urgent care in downtown San Mateo.

Their MA couldn't get my blood draw after poking me twice with a lot of painful probing. For the background I've never had issues with blood draws in my 20 years of adult life. Their manager came in and told me I had to come back for the blood draw the next day and promised a quick and hassle free drop in visit for the next day. Then the next day when I called the office they say the waiting was long and I had to come at a specific time later. Eventually when they were able to admit me for the blood draw, they still didn't have someone experienced enough. I got completely traumatized from not only the pain and failures in blood draw, but also frustration caused by their poor management and process. What is even more ridiculous, is that a few weeks later they send me a bill for my second trip to the office which was to complete my bloodwork, as an "office visit" and already charged my insurance. I had to deal with the hassle of disputing the bill and make them void that fraudulent claim.

Once the consultation started the doctor told me he was going into the consult blind. They failed to let him know what was going on . He told me he couldn't prescribe anything because it would be stepping on the toes of the previous provider. Needless to say this consult provided no therapeutic value. Communication is terrible. All communication goes through a call center that sounds like it's based out of India. I wish they had a feature where you could send a direct message to the provider. After many many calls.
