I am a new man. Went to Dr. Bock to see if she could help me with difficulties breathing through my nose. She immediately deduced my issues were due to a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates. The first step was to see if using Flonase every day would help reduce the size of my turbinates, which it didn't. She said surgery was possible, and never pressured me to go through with it. I left it alone for a long time but eventually decided I was sick of it and visited Dr. Bock again. I got a septoplasty and turbinate reduction for my issues. It wasn't that fun, but I expected worse from what people told me. I think my case wasn't too severe, since a friend of mine said her issues during recovery were much worse. It's never been so easy to breathe through both nostrils in my life, and sleeping is so much easier now. Every step along the way, Dr. Bock was patient with me, explained things in detail, and seemed to genuinely care. Some other doctors I've been to (for other issues) really seem to not care and just want to get through as many patients as possible. Dr. Bock gets an A+ from me. read more

She ordered a test and took the time to examine in her office. Patient with diagnostics and none of the hubris that I so often and sadly run into these days. I am not a fan of being negative, but this felt like the biggest waste of my time and money ever. Right from the start I wasn't a fan... Check in: they make you call from your car because of COVID 19. No big deal right? Well I called when I arrived 15 minutes prior as requested. I then proceeded to sit in my car for 45 minutes with no contact or communication from them. I finally called them again and waited another 10 minutes after that before I was called. Actual Appointment: went in and they did a standard check in. When the doctor finally came in almost 45 minutes late, she first sat 6 ft away from me and asked why I came in. She then proceeded to cut me off and tell me I needed to fix my mask on my face. Please note that my mask was on all the way, but because I had a homemade sewn mask, it did not stuck perfectly to my face to create a full seal around my cheek and nose area. So after spending some time adjust my mask to her liking, she then finally came close enough to me to actually do an exam. I went in for an ear issue so she checked my ears first. When I told her I felt congestion in my ears, she said well normally I would check your throat and nose but I don't want to do that because of COVID. Now I'm confused. I went to see an ENT and she doesn't want to check me nose and throat. I understand the risk of COVID, but she is a doctor and I'm here for an appointment after jumping through several hoops to prove I am not sick and waiting a long time in my car! We are now about 15 minutes in to the appointment. She can't see anything in my ears so she says "go next door and get an audiology test". She tells me I should take allergy meds. I told her I've done that. She then offers to inject me with a steroid. I said no thanks. I don't think just taking a look in my ear and telling me "I don't see what's wrong" warrants the offer of a steroid injection. She gives me a card to the lady next door for a hearing test and tell me I can promptly leave out the other door. No bill, no follow up, just go get a hearing test. Here's where it gets great. My bill comes in $230!!!! For what exactly? I'm not sure. Poor bedside manner, being late, mask shaming me and not doing a SINGLE THING to help my symptoms. She didn't even bother to give me a full exam. If your comfortable going to a doctor who is too afraid to properly practice her trade and then over charge you then this is your lady. Otherwise, I would recommend doing a better job vetting an ENT than I did. Bottom Line: she seemed more afraid of me than willing to help me. She was late, tactless about the mask and seemed more interested in getting me out of there as quickly as possible than anything else. If I had been given a bill on the spot, I would have fought it. Husband said the doctor is great (the one time he's been able to see her) however, front office staff is completely incompetent. I understand miscommunications happen, but multiple appts in a row and my husband has yet to get an actual follow-up done. To the front office- you are LITERALLY playing with people and their livelihood. It's inexcusable to have multiple appointments booked, cancelled without notification, making someone wait around for over an hour hoping to get in, only to send them home. As a member of the healthcare community, I'm ashamed. Our time matters just as much as yours, we rearrange our lives for you, not the other way around. I never got to meet Dr. Hughes as her office completely messed up my appointment. In addition to the fact that the person running her office didn't communicate clearly. Unfortunately I had waited 3 weeks to get an appointment and waited there for an additional hour and never got to see Dr. Hughes. I would definitely stay away from this office. One more issue when they call to confirm on an automated system, that system is also non functional. I should have cancelled my appointment then. read more

I've seen Dr. Bock once, for about 3 minutes, she was cold, very business like, efficient. After those 3 minutes Dr. Bock took me to the back office and clearly said to the clerk that she needed to schedule a MRI for me. The clerk told me to wait for her phone call to schedule the MRI. 2 weeks later I called, the clerk said that Dr. Bock never told her anything. I had the MRI done at the Sequoia Hospital, where they told me that the MRI report should be at Dr. Bock's office in 3 days maximum. 7 days later I call Dr. Bock's office, they have no idea where my MRI is, they transfer me back and forth until no no answers the phone. I am now investigating where the MRI report can be. The clerk told me that Dr. Bock might have it, but that she didn't actually know where the MRI report was. I reserve my opinion about Dr. Bock, but her office staff is one of the most incompetent that I've seen in my 52 years on earth. read more

Dr. Bock-Hughes is the best ENT specialist in the area. She has a very sweet personality and never rushes through my exam. I have chronic sinus problems due to another medical condition, so I see Dr. Bock several times a year. She always asks how my family is doing and remembers information I told her months before. She is such a popular doctor that it is not uncommon to have to wait a few weeks to get an appointment, which can be a source of frustration for the appointment schedulers. Be patient, I assure you, an appointment with her is worth the wait. read more

Dr. Jennifer Boch-Hughes is an amazing doctor, she literally saved my life. My daughter was seeing the doctor for a viral infection. I wasn't the patient, but I had been suffering from a terrible sore throat for days. I had been to my GP, had a strep test and it came back negative. When I told Dr. Boch-Hughes about it, she offered to examine me. She found the I had early stage acute epiglottitis. This is when the flap to the esophagus becomes infected and can rapidly cause one to suffocate. Dr. Boch-Hughes called me the next day to see how I was doing on my prescriptions. She is so conscientious and caring she went over and above the call of duty, I am truly indebted to her. By the way, the reception staff was wonderful too. read more

Long overdue review of Dr. Bock... I am an adult who actually had to have a tonsillectomy. The first ENT I visited was highly rated and working in SF - he's the one who broke the news to me and warned how painful it would be. That was then the research began... reading the blogs of adult tonsillectomies were completely terrifying. People were saying giving birth without an epidural was nothing compared to the pain... others said they would rather be run over by a truck. Sometimes I literally cried myself to sleep. My research continued and I soon learned about a procedure called thermal welding. I went to yet another doctor in the city and she said she had never heard of it... Upon looking at the list of doctors who had taken the initiative to learn this procedure, I saw that Dr. Bock was the ONLY doctor in the area who could perform it... I didn't love that she was down the Peninsula (not convenient location wise for me) but anything for less pain... She confirmed she had been performing thermal welding for awhile. She also warned that sometimes she would still need to cauterize depending on bleeding (what most Dr's do and this is what makes healing so painful) she also still warned it would hurt like hell. She was blunt and direct which made me trust her more. Be aware though, she is not your mother. She will not hold your hand and talk a long time about painkillers and make you feel warm and fuzzy. Remember she is a surgeon, and she is focused on doing her job really well. She is also the only surgeon in the Bay Area who learned how to do thermal welding knowing that it would make healing less painful for her patients. I could tell she cared deeply. She only had to cauterize a small part during my surgery which made it a huge success. Don't be fooled, I still had pain... plenty of it. It actually starts off kinda easy but then the pain crested for me around day 5 and everything burned going down - even coconut water. Right after that peak, it started getting better. Dr. Bock performed my surgery at Mills Peninsula surgery center. I LOVED the nurses there. They were absolutely phenomenal and I will never be able to thank them enough. Finally, some tips for you... try not to be scared. You will be OK. Try to have someone with you as much as possible and plan it in advance- the distraction is great and the nurses said talking also helps you heal more quickly. Sleep upright. Have movies ready - you will likely not have the energy to read. Have ice with you at all times. Ice to eat and an ice pack for your throat. I bought a little ice maker so I had small cubes to suck on at all times. Coconut water is really soothing at first and make sure to have a few spoon fulls of applesauce or jello before you take your pain meds. Another thing that helped for me was to start anti-nausea medication the very first day. Pain meds make me nauseous but b/c I started it the first day there was never a problem. Good Luck! read more

I saw Dr Bock for a thyroid problem. She is a very competent ENT doctor. She was thorough and thoughtful. She quickly responded and set up the appropriate tests and provided the results and monitored my case. She's very bright and has good "bedside manners". read more

I have been going to Dr. Bock for a little over two-in-a-half years and couldn't be happier.! She is very nice, thorough, knowledgeable, and takes the time to answer your questions. I see her for semiannual ear cleanings as I produce a lot of wax, treatment of nasal allergies which we are getting a handle on, and a deviated septum and prolapsed cartilage which I will have surgery for at some point. She tells you what she is going to do before she does it and explains her findings and treatment options to you in plain English; she lets you think it over if you haven't decided right than and there in the chair. As far as the allergies are concerned, she has been wonderful in trying out different nasal sprays, eager to find the right one and having me take Zyrtec as well. I love the "ask a doctor" feature on the site which allows you to send a secured form to your doctor with any questions and/or concerns ; Dr. Bock or one of the office personnel has always gotten back to me via Email or phone in a timely manner.! The office staff is very also very friendly and knowledgeable. So, for excellent ear, nose, and throat care, Dr. Bock and her staff cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.! read more
