Purchased a round trip ticket from Austin to San Antonio around March of 2013. While in Austin waiting for the 6:50 pm bus I was surprised with a high floor coach instead of the regular Megabus. Megabus denied me a reasonable accommodation by sending a high floor bus without offering any assistance with me (mobility impaired person) getting on the bus violating a Consent decree with the US Dept of Justice, employee was rude stating no refunds and I told them I would be suing them for violating Chapter 121 Tx Hum Res Code, a state law . Luckily, my bank reversed the charge. No response from the Title VI coordinator. No issues with Greyhound. Will be sticking to Greyhound, Megabus also assigns seating and prices the bus by seat in willful violation of Chapter 121, and the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act. I cannot wait until the new Attorney General is sworn in, provided that he doesn't pick and choose the laws he wants to enforce. Accessibility is not optional, Megabus. It is the law. read more

I took Megabus from San Antonio to Houston on June 25th. What a great way to travel. The buses have free wifi and some seats even have power outlets. If I ever wanted to go out of town I will go by Megabus read more

I take the Megabus between Houston and San Antonio twice a week, 30 weeks a year. PROS: -Cheap -Clean -Usually little traffic if you go at certain times -Usually on time. Once we had a flat tire, once we had a crazy passenger who had to be hauled off by the state police and once we had an inspection by the state police with dogs. I have taken Megabus 97 times on this route and only have had these three incidents that resulted in a big delay (more than 30 minutes). CONS: -Some passengers do not understand the concept of headphones and prefer to share the audio portion of their program with the entire bus. -Wifi is spotty. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. PRO TIPS: -BRING A SWEATER even if it is July in Texas. Megabus loves to crank up the AC and they won't usually adjust it. -DON'T SIT IN A RESERVED SEAT if you didn't pay for it. Usually you'll get kicked out of it but by the time you do there won't be a lot of good non-reserved seats left. I've found that people who reserve seats usually show up last minute. -BRING EARPLUGS OR HEADSET to block out noise (see CONS section above) -BRING A SNACK. Megabus doesn't stop between San Antonio and Houston so if you're going to be hungry, plan ahead. read more

I really do think this is a great deal as far saving money, not having to worry about speeding or a DWI! The employees are awesome, but they don't allow me to bring my golf clubs anymore, poor me. If you do take a trip with Maga Bus make sure you bring your drinks, snacks & music read more

Can't beat the price. But check-in is confusing as the operators move the queue from place to place in a rude manner. Attendant was passive aggressive concerning taxi/vehicle passenger drop offs although there is no marked area. The simple parking lot pick-up spot isn't a hassle to find as it is directly on a larger cross street. The bus is clean and for the most part the patrons are courteous of other riders. Besides the current staff this could be a good service. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE - I really hate to give one star but I have to rate the business. THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU! My elderly mother has been traveling the Megabus since the first rides that only cost a dollar. This last trip has cost her around 76 dollars; why may you ask. She never realized that she accidentally purchased 2 reservations for the same ride on a Sunday. She did not notice the charge until she was sent a notice of insufficient funds the next day. When we call Megabus they stated that there was nothing they could do to resolve the 2nd charge. I told them that my mother is on a fixed income and will have to purchase another ticket on Sunday to go back to Houston and if they would voucher/credit her the ride since she had already paid two. NEVER DID I ASK FOR A REFUND just a credit. I mean come on she already purchased an extra ticket. Again they stated there was nothing they could do and proceeded to hang up on me. I called back and requested to speak to the manager again only to be hung up on again. Thankful my mom's bank was a lot more understanding then MEGABUS. Please if you have family members purchasing reservations have them double-check to make sure they are not charged twice. Megabus will only help you prior to the trip, once that trip is complete that money is theirs and you will be left paying double for one trip. read more

Do not take if you have a disability, they no longer pre-board so if no seats are left downstairs the person has to climb winding, narrow stairs to the top level which is an impossibility for an 86 year old with Parkinsons disease. After taking many trips with excellent service, I was shocked to find on my recent trip that, per the driver, "everyone is treated the same" so my 86 year old father was not allowed to pre-board to get a seat downstairs with his caregiver. I learned of this after the trip and called the customer service line who told me that "it is up to the discretion of the driver". When I asked about customers who cannot take stairs due to parkinson disease, she said "Again, Mam, it is up to the discretion of the driver." read more

I took the Megabus from San Antonio to Grand Prairie and it's a very convenient way to travel when you don't want to drive yourself. The only thing I wish is that they had a permanent building in San Antonio instead of just a parking lot. We had to stand in the pouring rain waiting for the bus to arrive with no shelter. I hope that is something they are going to do in the future. Will definitely use them again and the prices are great!! read more

The bus stop location is good, lots of parking spaces for pick-up and drop off. It is located in kind of a warehouse area of downtown, not a lot of people around. So I don't know how safe after sun goes down, especially when winter comes around. Day time is fine. The closest local bus stop is about 3 blocks away. If you don't have a ride, the yellow cab may be your only other option for pick up and drop off. Lyft and Uber had abandoned San Antonio. read more

Overall Megabus is an affordable way to travel and I've taken over 50+ trips with the company. However its not all sunshine when traveling with them, If you are 1-min late they will not let you on, typically. I have had a time or two where they made an exception, however I have had several when the bus was still there and they wouldn't let me on, messing up my trip. So don't be late, they probably won't let you on board. Also I booked a round trip to Dallas, I picked the wrong day and immediately contacted them to change, however they wouldn't wave the fee as a one time courtesy, so there customer service is a a little sub par. That is all! read more

My bus was already there when I pulled into Lot. We left on time. That was the good and now the bad and ugly. They make the dumbest stops in the bad areas Of town. If you don't bring a snack or drink you will be stuck for over 6 hours before you can get something. It was so crowded and uncomfortable. People smell bad and eat worse things. The worse bathroom had no soap or any type of sanitation available. Big Germ mobile. The quality of the peeps on bus didn't seem to care. Bus driver was oh well. Don't do it just don't....hitchhike if you have to it would probably be safer. I didn't take the bus back bc I was so traumatized. I just couldn't do it. The thought of cabbage and raw meat smell made me sick thinking about it. Stop n don't pass go! read more

Best ever!!! I didnt know what to expect for being such a cheap fare, but once i got on the bus allmy worries went away. Bus was very clean very very comfortable power outlets every where u look, free wifi(dont rely on it) i tethered to my phone instead because the buses wifi was pretty spotty. I would recommend megabus to everyone .It is simply amazing..I WILL NEVER EVEN CONSIDER GREY HOUND AFTER DISCOVERING MEGABUS!! read more

Customer service is a joke. They couldn't even tell us where their pickup spot is. It recently changed so everything online still reflected the old location around Katy TX area. Also, we bought our tickets and later realized that the drop off location was different than our pickup. So even if we could have found overnight parking (which their wasn't, they'll even tell u that on the phone), it would not had done us any good on the return. That was our mistake, but the fact that customer service didn't know a damn thing and we're not willing to help or refund us gave us enough reason to skip out on our trip and will never try using them again. read more

Never had any trouble. Cheap easy and efficient. Clean bathrooms. Safe parking lot location. Located on a city bus route.

When I had to change reservations, their site wouldn't allow me to do so. I notified them of the issue. I had to make a new reservation, but I was not able to get a refund for the previous. Again, notified them, their customer service basically said too bad. The ride itself was atrocious, the trip ungodly long...I will never use this service again. read more

Extremely dissatisfied. Bought a ticket for $50 at 10:15AM from Dallas to San Antonio. Saw that the ticket came through saying "Grand Prairie" instead of "Downtown Dallas." Called the Megabus number where someone told me "Disregard the city name on the ticket, it is a glitch in the system. The bus always starts at the Grand Prairie station and then is at the Dallas station 30 minutes later. This bus is starting at Grand Prairie at 9:45 and will be at the downtown Dallas station at 10:15." So, I got to the downtown Dallas station at 10 and waited... and then at about 10:30 I checked the website (took a screen shot) and it said "Dallas Downtown bus delayed to 10:41" so I continued to wait. The bus never came. I called the megabus number again at around 11 and they said "the bus isn't going to Downtown Dallas today because the downtown Dallas bus station is closed." I said "oh, I didn't know, the website still says 'downtown' Dallas and your personnel on the phone told me my ticket was a glitch. Please process a refund for me." Then they said "sorry, you missed the bus, we can't help you." Then they hung up on me?! And I was being very nice, they just apparently didn't want to discuss it any further. Since then, I have been e-mailing back and fourth with megabus for over a week and they continue to insist that I missed the bus and that they did nothing wrong. They edited the subject line of their last reply to be "CAN NO LONGER BE ASSISTED." I have been a frequent user of megabus, but clearly will not be using their services moving forward. I urge all of you to discontinue your use of megabus moving forward. Their customer service is disgraceful. If you have never used megabus, I discourage you from trying it. At their current prices, you may as well buy a flight on Southwest or drive yourself. There is also a new bus service out of Austin - VONLANE that I will be trying instead. I never write reviews, but felt that I needed to share this megabus story so that no one else will allow themselves to be disrespected the way that I was. read more

This bus was about as good as a bus gets. I much prefer taking a plane and getting somewhere in less time, but for $8 roundtrip, this bus was worth it. Goes by a LOT faster with some alcoholic beverages and is a lot more miserable when you're hungover, just FYI... read more

Megabus was a mixed experience. I traveled from Austin, TX to Chicago, IL. Megabus does not offer this trip in one itinerary, so we purchased separate tickets for each leg of the journey "at our own risk" as Megabus does not guarantee connections---this is important to know if you try this. We went from Austin - Dallas - Memphis - Chicago and the same way back. Most of the time, the bus was reasonably close to being on time. We left 1.5 - 3 hours between connections to make sure we would make each one. Most of the time, we had good bus drivers who kept us on time. They made it clear at each rest stop when people should be back on the bus. However, on our way back home from Chicago to Memphis, we had a couple of bus drivers that were awful and caused us to miss a connection and become stranded. First of all, the bus showed up about 45 minutes late to pick us up. Over the course of the trip to Memphis, our two bus drivers showed absolutely no effort to save time or at least keep us from being MORE late. They took forever at rest stops and at one late night stop at 2am, they made one very short announcement that everyone had to get off the bus so it could be fueled. My traveling companion and I were one of the few travelers who had woken up to hear this. They made no effort to get people off the bus and didn't even make a second announcement. My friend and I had to stand up and start waking everyone up and passing on the message that we all had to get off the bus. At this point, we were quickly closing the 1.5 hour gap between our arrival in Memphis and our next bus. I spoke to the drivers about not making us any more late, and they shrugged me off. "The driver has to have her break." Long break. They made us a total of 1.5 hours late (after starting out 45 minutes late) arriving in Memphis. I literally jumped off our bus when we stopped and chased after the other Megabus we were supposed to be on as it drove away. We begged the drivers to call the other bus and ask it to wait just a couple minutes. One driver raised her radio like she was about to, and then didn't. She completely ignored me and refused to answer me at all at this point. She wouldn't look at me, wouldn't speak to me. And this was an overnight trip, so there was no traffic. Our lateness was 100% due to the negligence and laziness of our two drivers. We were stranded in Memphis for 10 hours until the next Megabus left. We had to call up the company and argue to have our tickets transferred to the next bus. They gave us the spiel about not guaranteeing connections, and I came back saying that I didn't buy a ticket leaving Chicago "whenever" and arriving in Memphis "at some vague point in the future." I told them I bought a ticket leaving and arriving at certain times, and that while I understood buses sometimes run late, 1.5 hours late was not an acceptable margin of error, especially due to the lazy, "I'm in a union and I'll take my break as long as I want" attitude of the drivers we had. I finally was transferred to a very nice manager who understood the point I was trying to make, and she altered our tickets for us. I want to emphasize that out of all our connections between cities and our various bus drivers, they were mostly very good and had us arriving on time or close to on time. Generally, you should be safe with 2-3 hour connection times if you want to try this. The bus is very, very cold. I had on warm clothes, and I had two coats with me and I was still freezing the entire time. Bring a blanket, it's worth the trouble. Bring a travel pillow as well. The electric outlets work well. The wireless is sporadic, but that's to be expected. Yes, the stops are out on the street and may or may not be sheltered at all. Arrive early and try to find a business nearby where you can wait. On a side note, do not wait at the Memphis bus stop building, wait by the curb. At that city bus stop building, it was extremely sketchy and we felt really unsafe. A police officer took it upon himself to approach us and say loudly to the whole area that everyone should hang on to their belongings, be aware of your surroundings, etc. Yeah, that's when you know you're in a sketchy place...we got out of there pretty fast and waited outside at the actual megabus stop. I would ride Megabus again. Overall, it was a fairly good experience. read more

I am furious! My 18 year old daughter took Megabus from Austin to San Antonio last night - the driver did not unload her suitcase and the bus took off before she realized. I called Megabus - the "customer service" is obviously outsourced to India and the agents could not care less about the customers - they told me to wait for 3 -5 business days for Lost and Found to contact me, refused to give me the phone number for Lost and Found and then hung up on me - twice! Horrible! Megabus: Get local customer service agents who actually care about your customers. I will be finding an alternate way for my college student to come home on the weekends. read more

I have traveled on Greyhound on several occasions throughout the country. The downtown San Antonio Greyhound Terminal was very busy when our bus arrived. A very nice gentleman employee offered to put my luggage in the bus I was transferring to ahead of time when he saw me struggling with my suitcases. Every employee I spoke to from the Manager greeting people entering down to the young lady cooking in the snack bar went above and beyond the call of duty to assist me. It is very refreshing to encounter such kindness and hospitality from employees that deal with a multitude of customers and not lose sight of being kind. Great Job!!! read more

I've had 4 experiences with megabus. Every time the driver was rude. The wifi is decent, the bus is cold which is great. Yet these last two times, the bus was 1 hour and a half late took an hour break in Austin. I was headed to Dallas. After waiting an hour for the bus to arrive, it was late. I intended to cancel my trip. I called the support line, they said they wouldn't refund my money just to wait. I have high blood pressure and it was super hot out. I didn't want to loose my money so I waited . A five hour trip which should of arrived at 12:30pm, arrived at 2:00pm. I arrived on Dallas at 9:15Pm you do the math. I stayed on the phone with them for nearly an hour and they offered me 25% off. Really??? I dread this ride back home. But it's definitely my last ride.... read more

Megabus Austin has ZERO Customer Service. I was within a few feet of the back of the bus and watched the bus driver remove the cones at the front of the bus, get onto the bus and shut the door. He clearly saw me but did not stop to let me board. I knocked onto the window and he waved me off and then said he could not reopen the doors once they were closed. I called the supervisor to complain that the bus driver would not let me board and she defended the driver and would not give me a refund but offered for me to take a later bus for an additional $5. I told her, as well as the bus driver, that I was on my way to a memorial service and could not wait for a later bus. I have tooted Megabus horn for years but cannot support a business that does not show any sign of Customer Service. read more

I haven't taken a bus in a very long time, and the last time I did it was a Greyhound. I saw a stroy on the news about Megabus coming to town, and last weekend we were in need of cheap one-way transportation to Dallas. We got our tickes for a dollar a piece! The busses that they use are brand new double deckers with very comfortable seats. The drivers and personell are very friendly and professional. The trip took no longer than it would had we driven the distance ourselves, and that was with one stopover in Austin. That's much quicker than Amtrak, and with more flexible departure/arrival times. They also had plug-ins for laptops/rechargers and free WIFI. We were so impressed that we booked a trip to Houston for this weekend round trip. we payed a little more than the buck apiece (after all that was an introductory price), but we still got a great rate, and will get the same great, and speedy service. The next time you want to make a quick getaway and you don't want to pay through the nose for an airline ticket check out Megabus.com! read more

Absolutely ridiculous. Pulled in exactly at departure time. Bus driver laughs, shakes her finger at me, and begins moving bus out of gate. I will never use megabus again. Vonlane only. With Megabus rising prices, the overall experience through Vonlane makes much more sense. read more

For every 10 minute incriminate that my party traveling and I are waiting(longer than we have already), I will write something here. This absolutely the worst bus experience I have ever had. The bus was supposed to pick us up at 5:20, it's now 6:37 and we're still waiting on the bus. Multiple travelers have called the customer service and everyone has been told a different time as to when the bus would arrive. Trying to take some action myself the response I got was basically "I cannot give you an ETA. Is there anything else I can help you with?" There was not even the slightest inclination of care or concern, nor the smallest bit of remorse or want to help. The woman said she did not know how long from the last bus stop in Houston it would take for the bus to get to ours in Houston, traffic and weather permitting aside she had no ETA for me because she was not from the area. But you represent the company right? And you have no knowledge? You are not trained on the routes? It's 2017 do not insult my intelligence as if your bus has no tracker. What blows my mind the most is the fact that the bus didn't even get the prior bus stop until after 6pm when it was supposed to be here at 5:20. I completely understand that traffic can play a huge factor. However, when your website states that you must be at the bus stop in plenty of time prior to boarding the bus, I think that you should at the very least grant your guests the same respect. Now the time is 6:47.... Two people traveling with us JUST came up to us and informed us that the location as where we will be dropped off CHANGED, I can add this to the list of why your company sucks, because we haven't even received notification or email. The time is now 6:57... still waiting on this bus ... Bus just got here! 7:07... Bus pulling off now 7:10, only 1hour and 50min behind schedule. Interesting the bus only took 3 min to pull off. Great job MEGABUS---way to go (COMPLETE AND UTTER SARCASM INTENDED) wish there was a 0 star rating AND NO WIFI ON A BUS THAT FALSELY ADVERTISED IT read more

Megabus seriously needs to check that their buses are in proper working order before departures. Megabus has had mechanical difficulties TWICE in the 6 times I've taken Megabus back to Houston from San Antonio. At least the first time it was a day trip and all we had to do was stop and get a mechanic to check it out. The second time was a night trip and we had to wait for THREE hours for another bus to come get us! As if we weren't exhausted enough already at a 7:45pm departure and a normal 10:35pm arrival, which already seems late for me. A third time with a huge delay and major problems was the week of Thanksgiving, but Megabus OVERBOOKED seats and they sent another bus -- a cheap, ratty old Coach bus. I mean, I paid over $50 for amenities like wi-fi (which isn't even that good), and an outlet, and they sent a different company's bus?! I couldn't charge my phone or work on school assignments online. And then usually the bus comes at least 30min later than scheduled in Houston (Katy) to go back to San Antonio. Before starting my first year of college my family and I had heard great things about Megabus...if that's true, I'm not seeing it. UPDATE: Never taking Megabus again if I can help it. Was supposed to leave back to school from Houston (Katy Mills) to San Antonio after spring break at 5:50pm on a Sunday. Well, Megabus overbooked their seats, so a second bus was supposed to come get us. The gall was that the driver of the first bus didn't answer any of our questions and only picked up like 2 people since the rest of the bus was full, and just simply left us there. All in the span of five minutes. At least with the Thanksgiving overbooking situation the first bus stayed and waited for the second bus to arrive. Of course, once the first bus left, the other, 45-50 passengers still in line started calling the company. At first, we got "15-20 minutes." The bus didn't come, so we called several times within the next 2 hours as the bus still didn't show up. We didn't know what was going on because one representative would say 45 minutes-1 hour, another would say 10 minutes, the bus that picked up people for Austin called too and said 10 minutes. Then, around 7:45-ish, my friend who was there called the company and a representative said a second bus did come by about an hour earlier but NO ONE WAS THERE. What?! There were 60 people in line and now they were saying everybody had left? We were all still waiting there! Obviously, either Megabus never sent a bus to begin with or they never told a second bus which entrance of the mall to pick us up at. INCOMPETENT COMPANY! After that, we concluded that there was not another bus coming so we all went back home. Yes, they refunded my money, but I had to go to the trouble of finding a ride to SA the following morning, missing my morning classes -- I'm just grateful I didn't have any exams that day! I HATE MEGABUS! read more

Bus left over 10 minutes early and customer service was useless. Never again!

Never been treated so poorly by anyone's customer service. Here's their number incase you've been left behind like the 30 passengers and myself this morning: (877) 462-6342, it won't help but maybe enough complaints will help fix their terrible company. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. They switch pickup locations without notice to anyone without access to internet on their phones. Thanks alot, sorry I'm not rich enough for a smart phone. I literally ran up to the bus once we found it and knocked on the window as they were leaving and the driver just waved goodbye. WOWWWWW! read more

First time riding megabus and although the concept is great and the ride ok I was miserable from Houston to San Antonio and back. It was sweltering hot both ways. We told the driver about it on the way to San Antonio and it looks like we are riding the exact same bus going back which leads me to believe it could be the mechanics of the bus. They should really check these buses fully before using them especially if there is a complaint from a bus load of people. Would have marked more stars but when a person is feeling miserable they really do t want to give any high marks. I rode on the 130pm bus from San Antonio to Houston read more

There is no way to get a discount, even though there is a "coupon" on Retail-Me-Not and other sites. I called the company. There is no longer a promotional code box on their website. What sucks about Megabus is that you still have to deal with employees. The employees at the Houston, TX location are the worst. Millions of people in the city and decent employees can't even be hired. A deaf woman couldn't find her bus and they wouldn't even give her the time of day. They get mad at you for not knowing where you need to be but the only signs for directions are 18" by 24" with 30 people standing in front of them. These people are paid for a service but I guess that no longer matters. Hopefully a robotic replacement will be made for everyone but the drivers. The only work I actually witnessed them doing is moving traffic cones. I could do that without a stick shoved up somewhere painful. read more

After reading several negative Greyhound reviews, I was ready to cancel my trip to Austin. I decided to look into MegaBus because I had heard something about it from a co-worker. At first it seemed too good to be true, but I spoke with a friend in DC who was raving about it and I gave it a shot. There is no catch, it really is just a great cheap way to travel. There was a tent set up in the parking lot with some shade, the bus was on time, and other than some traffic in Austin, it was a quick trip. Same day round trip tickets were less than $10 and I didn't even have to print anything out, all I needed was my confirmation number. The double-decker busses were comfortable and cool, and not crowded at all.I'm booking my next trip right now. read more

Great drive from San Antonio to Houston. Got to pick up lot 25 minutes before time of departure, bus was there with a line waiting to get on. Was actually surprised there were so many people for a Thursday morning, I'd say bus was 98% full. Bus left on time and got to my destination 15 minutes earlier than expected. Thought I was gonna get lucky and get two seats to myself but at the last minute someone came on board. Traveling by yourself is the chance you take that someone with poor hygiene might sit next to you, but was lucky & I didn't have to deal with that. Seats are a little tight for me so I may consider just purchasing two seats next time, if I ever use them again. Great deal for $6 bucks and change, I bought my ticket about 3 weeks in advanced. read more
