I took my first trip on MegaBus from San Antonio to Dallas a while back. Sure, you can get there quicker in a car, but the amount of time on the bus wasn't too much longer. It only took us 5 hours and 25 minutes to get from the pickup point in SA to the drop off point in Dallas. Since COVID times, rider attendance is down, so they don't seem to be using the double decker buses with the tables facing each other. It was a standard Greyhound type bus contracted out of Kerrville, but we were able to sleep and watch Netflix on their free WiFi, and take advantage of their power plugs. Both 110V standard plugs for laptops, as well as USB charging ports. The bus even had a restroom for the 5 hour trip, and the bus was clean and in good shape. Tickets from San Antonio to Dallas are only $32.54 - one way (including taxes, fees, etc.). You just can't beat that with a stick! Keep in mind that they will make a stop in Austin to drop people off and board additional passengers. The driver announced that it would be a 10 minute stop, but it was closer to 30 minutes. Regardless, we still made it to DFW ahead of schedule. Pickup and drop off spots: San Antonio - just a big old parking lot. No indoor waiting area, so don't show up too early. Austin- it looks like they have an indoor facility but it was closed by the time we got there. Dallas - drop off - located at Fuel City, which is a popular food and party place on late Saturday nights. I hope I don't have to use this service again any time soon, but it's good to know it's there if you need it! I would use it again if necessary. Good value! read more

First time user and excellent experience so far. Bus is spotless and quiet. We had trouble finding the pickup spot (San Antonio, TX) due to the address provided on the website and on maps. The listing is "177 VIA Crossroads", which looks like a driving direction at first glance. As tourists we never guessed that VIA is the name of a transit authority nor that Crossroads was the name of a highway. The pickup location is adjacent to a VIA bus stop located at 177 Crossroads Blvd, about 10 miles from downtown San Antonio. The driver is excellent and, although there were already a few other passengers on board, he DID wait for us until the exact departure time, which was precisely when we arrived. read more

Dallas to San Antonio 5:40pm - 10:45pm Bus was 1 1/2 hour late Picked up downtown Dallas went straight to their garage in Grand Prairie they didn't tell us anything and had us sitting in the bus for 30 min while they found another bus then transferred the luggage then had us switch busses. (No explanation given) Off we go at 8:15pm get to Austin at 11:30pm Drop off & pick up then drive to Buccees in San Marcos to switch drivers. Our driver had exceeded the maximum of 15hrs driving so we wait in parking lot for 15 min for relief driver to continue the NIGHTMARE Arriving in San Antonio close to 1:30am and the damn bars close at 2am!!!! Drive, Fly, Uber, Swim or hitchhike it will be a better experience and you will get there way faster. Never Ever Again!!! read more

Brilliant. 4th Street and Broadway was much closer than I anticipated to the downtown area - I'm not sure why it would be a twenty mintue walk - but I did. I was on Commerce Street to connect to the local buses in minutes. I'm writing this review for both Houston and San Antonio, as that was what my journey was - the San Antonio location is much larger, with parking (I'm not sure what you have to pay if leaving it there, but at least you can wait in a car with your family if you're being dropped off, or they can wait for you as the bus arrives) The bus was more than on-time. I beat me to the stop. We were supposed to leave at 8:15. It was already in the parking lot at 7:55. Compared to the San Antonio Greyhound station, which is a fucking toilet, this was just such a pleasure. It's basically curbside pickup (well, in New York and Philly it is), you can consider this "empty-parking-lot-pickup." There is no type of security. You give them your bags (if you have something larger than a carry-on), and you get on the bus. Boom. I'm 6 feet tall, and I always complain about leg-room. Not a single problem with Megabus's legroom. Note: I rode both segments on the upper level. If somebody is bitching that the roof is a little bit low, please realize a bus needs to fucking go through under-passes and can't accommodate Shaq standing completely straight up. Outlets are all over the place. Every row has an outlet. You can plug in your entire house in the first four rows. That helped out greatly because..... The WIFI just didn't work. I was getting an error saying "Disabled" on my phone. I've never seen anything like that. I'm assuming at this point you need to tell the driver to reset the modem, but I was too lazy, and I had Season 4 of the Sopranos ready on my laptop. I arrived early in Houston, and we left on the dot in San Antonio. Beautiful trip. Next time, if my trip is longer, I will have the balls to go downstairs and tell the driver to reset the modem. They should just do this every single time they reach a city anyway. (BTW: My wifi from Houston was spotty but at least it worked!!!) Greyhound is coming to an end. The end. read more

I very much enjoyed my first round trip ride on Megabus! It's the next best thing to a quick one-hour flight, if you ask me. Plus, it's wayyyy cheaper. I booked my trip to Dallas from San Antonio a week in advance, and paid $5 for the ride up on a Friday and a whopping $17 for the ride back on Sunday morning, totaling 22 bucks round trip! Upon arrival at 4th & Broadway in SA, there was nicely organized line of young hipsters waiting to check-in. They take the 50 pound per bag rule pretty seriously and they'll weigh it if it looks like it might be close. Apparently you gotta buy another ticket if your bag is over 50 lbs. The bus arrived right on time and the guys there were really helpful to me as a first timer. Little tip: take a screen shot of your confirmation email as soon as you get it, then you don't have to look up the email when it comes time for check-in. The ride itself was extremely pleasant. I got a whole row of two seats to myself with ample outlets for my electronics and it was pretty smooth sailing all the way up 35. We got there in the same amount of time it would have taken me to drive (even with a stop in Austin to pick up/drop off some passengers), but instead I was able to get some work done while someone else drove me. Clutch! Knocking off a star because the wifi is super wack, like 5 minutes to load a single page wack. So, if you have another form of wifi, I highly suggest bringing it and not relying fully on the bus's wife. In any case, it's a cost efficient and pleasant way to travel. Absolutely horrible experience! ETA from San Antonio to Dallas was supposed to be 5 hours and it took 6. Obviously, it will take 6 when you make a stop in Austin. Whoever did the math on that was wrong. At no place on my ticket does it describe other stops to be made. And we left San Antonio 10 minutes late. I called customer service and a Mike Tobias refused to let me speak with his supervisor and hung up the phone on me, twice. That is a wonderful representation of your company to the public. I have used Megabus several times and never had such a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! And you have raised your prices. It's highly doubtful that I would choose this a method of transportation again. read more

Bus keeps breaking down from San Antonio to Dallas. Like the 3rd time now. One unpleasant night in Dallas with people leaving the bus in the middle of the highway south of Dallas and people complaining was the last time I could deal with this horrible service. I would not trust Megabus service from San Antonio. Go for Greyhound instead. They actually get to your destination without the bus breaking down. I've got a business trade show in Dallas and extended the trip to visit friends in San Antonio. I was looking at options to get to Dallas and found this. There were options down to $1 for the trip. What?! Being the cheapskate that I am and having an extra hour or two to waste I went for it. Got a $12 trip and opted to be a big spender and went for the $7 extra for a premium seat. When the bus got to the pick up point there was a decent sized line of people waiting to board. However, the first thing they did was call for premium seat holders. It was worth $7 not to stand in line. Now I am in the top front row with no one next to me. Second bonus! It is cool, reasonably comfortable (no one behind me and the seat leans way back), has free WiFi and power outlets. I've traveled in way worse conditions for WAY more money. read more

Driver complains about passengers not reading bag policy on overweight bags (bag is not overweight). Just used Megabus for the first time this weekend for a round-trip from San Antonio to Houston. The bus on the way to Houston was on time. Everything moved very smoothly and efficiently. It's hot in Texas during the summer, so be aware of that when going to the stop since they are usually outside. The Wi-Fi sucks; don't even bother with it. It is a double decker bus, but don't expect to sit downstairs unless you are elderly or disabled. Get to the stop early so you can choose a good seat. They are smaller, so if you are big and/or tall, you may want to limit the size of your carry-on or buy two seats. The bus returning from Houston left about six minutes late, I suspect because there were three different buses leaving for different cities at the same time and yahoos kept running up late for the bus headed to Dallas. Other than that, which wasn't even a problem ultimately, the ride was smooth and efficient. Both trips arrived early and without incident. Tip: PRINT OUT YOUR RESERVATION. So many people were standing to the side crying because they couldn't pull up their reservation. Also, adhere to the luggage restrictions. They're in place for a reason. A purse is not a carry-on, ladies, so we get to carry on more! If you have to travel with an extra medical device (like we did), let Megabus know at the time you make the reservation so you have no issues with traveling, even if your medical issues do not have any effect on your ability to travel. read more

If you are not pretentious, then there is nothing better than the mega bus. I have used "the other bus," and this is way better! If you are planning a quick trip to Austin or Dallas and you want to save a little gas money, or you might be planning to do a little partying then this is an awesome option. The buses are pretty clean, comfortable, power outlets, and WiFi (this one is fast that "the other bus" as well.) Yes, the area they pick you up is nothing more than a parking lot, but if they built a building then you would pay WAY MORE, so stop comlaining. Austin and back from San Antonio is about $12 depending on when you reserve and what days you travel. Now you will have more cash to do other fun stuff with. My family lives between 3 major Texas cities. Between illness and the holidays, Megabus has really saved me these last two months. Once I land from Atlanta, I can shuttle from city to city with ease and for an incredible price. A recent trip had to be cancelled/modified last minute. A family emergency required an impromptu flight vs driving, but I already purchased my ticket. I took a chance and explained the situation via email to their customer service team and was astonished to receive a quick reply AND humane response. Xiomara noted the policy of NO REFUNDS, but if I could provide documentation regarding a family death, they may be able to help. I did and they did. All in a matter of 48 hours. For that alone, I am grateful and hope we can encourage more honesty from both sides so that people needing help with REAL situations can get it. read more

I save SO MUCH MONEY in comparison to the amount that I would end up spending on gas.. plus I get to sit back and just enjoy the scenery (or just catch some shut-eye). I was hung up on twice by two different supervisors. Seriously, even if you are mot interested, act like you are so people feel heard and then throw it in the trash after you hang up. Took it from one way from San Antonio to New Orleans. Wasn't too bad. Reserved a big window seat up front on second floor. Nice view. Outlets worked. Wifi was crap but I didn't expect it to be useful so I had rented iTunes movies in anticipation of this. Stopped twice in Houston and once in Baton Rouge on the way. Was just paranoid about how they handle baggage at stops because couldn't see what they were doing down there and they don't put any kind of bag tags on luggage. So was kind of afraid they were going to pull my bag off at a stop and someone can just take it. Nobody would stop them or know until I'm standing there at my final destination with no bag and a driver that wouldn't care and drive off. That didn't happen, my bag was there in New Orleans. But it could have. Pros: Cheap and gets you where you need to go. Con: Just pray you don't get stuck next to a fat and/or poor hygiene person. My ride was fine but would have easily been horrible if stuck next to some fat POS. read more

I tried megabus for the first time going home to New Orleans to Austin for Christmas. My outgoing bus was over an hour late, which would have caused me to miss my transfer in San Antonio . The tickets are non transferable so I basically had to buy a whole other ticket and leave the next morning. On the way back, the Texas driver was rude and arbitrarily enforced rules other drivers didn't such as not allowing a lady to carry on a pillow in addition to her bag. If you are going a short distance, I suppose for the price Megabus would be fine, but if you are traveling any significant distance, the extra $20 to ride greyhound is worth it. read more

There is nothing safe about this. They are no longer using the location they advertise. They dumped my wife out at midnight in an unlit parking lot on the southwest side of downtown, across the street from a tattoo parlor. No lights, no security. Once they unloaded they drove off, leaving her and others standing there. I was furious when I arrived. This is disgraceful. The 4th street location was well lit and in the middle of downtown, this place was dangerous. No Lyft or uber driver in his right mind would go out there. We were users of megabus, but no longer. This is complete disregard for the safety of the passengers. They should be ashamed to treat their customers like this. And, their advertising SAFETY is just a lie. Someone is going to get hurt here. In addition to this, the toilet was a disgrace. They have no access to restrooms at their stops, but the one on the bus is nasty. You could not even walk in, much less sit down, because of the urine all over the place. If Yelp had a way to give negative stars, megabus would be a minus 10. The driver, at the least, should wait until all passengers are gone; but, I guess he was afraid HE might get mugged in this location. I could go on, but I hope readers get the idea. If you value your life you won't go anywhere near the San Antonio megabus. I'm editing now. I called Megabus to complain and was connected with some outsourced center God knows where. The representative was obviously not a native English speaker, and advised me complaints had to be emailed, but he was speaking so poorly and rapidly that I couldn't understand him. read more

Oh my god! Can I just compare the super crappy service I had at Greyhound with that I received at Megabus? First, they sent me a ticket online, and all I had to do was show my ticket ON MY PHONE. At Greyhound, they told me, "We don't have any communication with the online ticketing service; if you don't print out your ticket, you have to buy a new one. What's on your phone don't matter." (The original was $14; the one they said I needed was $48.) (Long story --see my review of Greyhound; short story, JUST DON'T DO GREYHOUND.) Second, the Megabus was clean, the seats ample, there was no funky smell, and they even had seat belts. My one and only complaint was that I near froze to death from too much air-conditioning. I find it hilarious that people down here in the South complain about the conditions up North, and yet they don't mind the Arctic air-conditioning temps. At any rate, Megabus, yes. Greyhound--NO, NO, NO, NO. If there is any way you can afford Megabus instead of Greyhound, just do it. It's not the other passengers--it's the nasty people working in the terminals who feel like you owe them somehow. After my recent experience, I can only just say they deserve to go out of business. Great service. Traveled on 3.21.14 going to Houston. Better staff today. The bus was really clean, but I agree with the majority of people when they say the bus was cold. Bring a jacket....And make sure your phone, computer or tablet is fully charged before you leave. Not every single seat has a charger, so if you don't get lucky, you don't get power. I hope this changes over time. As with some of the other locations, they do need permanent structure. If you are just day tripping to Austin or to Houston it would be a great way to go. And check the prices. The closer to the date of travel, the more you are going to pay. I booked in early March and got a round trip ticket for $5.50. Will be making this trip more often. read more

Bus was on time clean and driver was friendly. Got to Austin 15 minutes early. I really enjoyed the seats as they all had power outlets. I was able to work and even take a little nap. Only negative was Wi Fi was not super fast. Normal surfing was fine but VPN or streaming was out. read more

This is really more like 2.5 stars. I've taken many Megabus trips to different cities and have reserved a seat for a really long trip in August. This review is about the service between San Antonio and Austin. Yesterday I reserved a seat on Megabus, but I couldn't get to the pickup spot in time, and this was the last bus that Megabus had to Austin that day. Megabus moved its pickup point further south and I was coming from an appointment in North SA. The Megabus stop used to be downtown. Then it moved the pickup point to S Medina, and then I got a notice that it moved temporarily even further south to Probandt St near Hwy 10 W. Megabus is becoming more and more inconvenient to use between Austin and San Antonio. It cut its frequency and it moved its terminal south of downtown. I remember earlier times when I could go back and forth between SA and Austin in one day on Megabus. No more, and now that the terminal is further south, it has become even more inconvenient. Another annoying practice is their sometime use of Kerrville buses which have no WiFi and no recharging stations for cellphones. The only saving graces are that Megabus is cheap and usually on time in my experience. read more

God prices for tickets and both of my trips, San Antonio to Houston last Saturday then back on Monday, ran on time. My complaint is that the driver on the return trip refused to turn the air conditioner off and the heat on when it was 40 degrees and raining outside. You can't cut off the vents so you have a chilling breeze on you the whole four or five hours. The only thing that kept me from catching cold was that I was working with my laptop warning my lap and blocking the A/C breeze. read more

It's that simple. It's clean, has wifi and plug outlets for your phone or laptop. There's also a restroom but... Ya know I'd rather just wait. I take the Megabus between Houston and San Antonio twice a week, 30 weeks a year. PROS: -Cheap -Clean -Usually little traffic if you go at certain times -Usually on time. Once we had a flat tire, once we had a crazy passenger who had to be hauled off by the state police and once we had an inspection by the state police with dogs. I have taken Megabus 97 times on this route and only have had these three incidents that resulted in a big delay (more than 30 minutes). CONS: -Some passengers do not understand the concept of headphones and prefer to share the audio portion of their program with the entire bus. -Wifi is spotty. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. PRO TIPS: -BRING A SWEATER even if it is July in Texas. Megabus loves to crank up the AC and they won't usually adjust it. -DON'T SIT IN A RESERVED SEAT if you didn't pay for it. Usually you'll get kicked out of it but by the time you do there won't be a lot of good non-reserved seats left. I've found that people who reserve seats usually show up last minute. -BRING EARPLUGS OR HEADSET to block out noise (see CONS section above) -BRING A SNACK. Megabus doesn't stop between San Antonio and Houston so if you're going to be hungry, plan ahead. read more

Can't beat the price. But check-in is confusing as the operators move the queue from place to place in a rude manner. Attendant was passive aggressive concerning taxi/vehicle passenger drop offs although there is no marked area. The simple parking lot pick-up spot isn't a hassle to find as it is directly on a larger cross street. The bus is clean and for the most part the patrons are courteous of other riders. Besides the current staff this could be a good service. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE - I really hate to give one star but I have to rate the business. THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU! My elderly mother has been traveling the Megabus since the first rides that only cost a dollar. This last trip has cost her around 76 dollars; why may you ask. She never realized that she accidentally purchased 2 reservations for the same ride on a Sunday. She did not notice the charge until she was sent a notice of insufficient funds the next day. When we call Megabus they stated that there was nothing they could do to resolve the 2nd charge. I told them that my mother is on a fixed income and will have to purchase another ticket on Sunday to go back to Houston and if they would voucher/credit her the ride since she had already paid two. NEVER DID I ASK FOR A REFUND just a credit. I mean come on she already purchased an extra ticket. Again they stated there was nothing they could do and proceeded to hang up on me. I called back and requested to speak to the manager again only to be hung up on again. Thankful my mom's bank was a lot more understanding then MEGABUS. Please if you have family members purchasing reservations have them double-check to make sure they are not charged twice. Megabus will only help you prior to the trip, once that trip is complete that money is theirs and you will be left paying double for one trip. read more
