OMG, was at the Menger Hotel/bar and placed an order for an Uber. I had to walk 5-7 blocks to find my UBER as the guy driving did not understand how to get to the Menger as the area is under construction. Truly asking why did he take the drive??? Locked my keys in car and was trying to get home, 2 miles away. Uber app would not download/verify account. Language is in Arabic or some foreign tongue. Although I couldn't get the app to download and the email link to verify my linked email address, I was somehow able to "book a ride" with an unknown driver who cancelled my non-requested trip and charged me a ride fee and cancellation rate. I ordered an Uber ride from downtown last night (4-29-23), he took my friend and I to our destination and when he drove off I realized I left my coach backpack in his vehicle. I reached out to him and he confirmed he had it and that after his next drop off he would bring it back to me. Waiting for over an later and he did not show up. if I could, I would give a zero star review. I think I am finally done with UBER EATS. I very rarely ever use it for rides. About a year ago I canceled my monthly Uber One subscription because of all of the problems I was having with deliveries and drivers. They are hiring the most incompetent people to make deliveries that I no longer trust them anymore. They can't speak a word of English and I don't believe they're able to read or understand English much less speak it. My delivery orders are constantly messed up by either not delivering it at all or delivering to another customer instead of to me or just not showing up at the restaurant to even pick up the order. And then not send somebody else to go get order and they don't tell you about it either. I only started using Uber Eats because I normally get a few more discounts from them than I was getting from DoorDash. But the horrible customer support from Uber has convinced me to go back to using DoorDash from now on. I am an elderly person who is disabled and I do use food delivery service often. I'm also not really able to do as much cooking as I used to do in the kitchen. This service is extremely important to me and it's also extremely important that the company hire drivers who are responsible, conscientious, and able to speak to their customers. If I have a good delivery in a respectable amount of time, I always tip the drivers. And I am beginning to not do that anymore until after the food is delivered. I used to automatically just add it to the order. The bigger question is which one is more efficient? Which mode is cheaper? Safer? The answer really is that as a tourist, visitor or a local you have to factor in simple mathematics. Is your destination via rideshare worth the cost including a modest tip? Without a doubt yes. Whether you use it to go to an event, downtown; as there is never seems to be enough adequate parking. Or the best possible scenario is that you decide to drink and want to play it safe Uber is a pretty reliable service. Basically you put the app on your phone along with the proper payment info. You pick a driver, pay and get picked up with in minutes.The Uber app is pretty user friendly, making transactions relatively easy. For example if you make plans it can give you in real time drivers available in your area. The only caveat depending on the time of day prices can surge. In addition depending on the size of your company you can request a bigger or a smaller vehicle. I know people that pool monies together to defray the cost of a ride. I must interject that the bigger the requested vehicle, the more the fare will be. In my opinion it's best to go with the smaller one, even if you have luggage. While Uber has many positives cheaper than a Yellow Cab, user friendly and convenient it has its share of criticism. The major issue: safety. I'm sure you've heard stories of Uber drivers engaging in inappropriate behavior. The wilderness that is competitive ride sharing is sure to breed some buffoonery. However I'm yet to have a totally bad experience. I suggest either way that you go in it with a friend or a group of people. Sure there are awkward drivers. Some that are quiet. Some that will talk your ears off. I distinctly remember one wearing racing gloves and gazing at their GPS as it were "Days of Thunder." Most of the time you get drivers who use the gig to supplement their main job. Even a statement of the times you encounter teachers moonlighting to make ends meet. In others words they are just like us. They're trying to get through their shift in one piece just as we are trying to get home safely. The city is growing but ways to accomodate it, in terms of transportation is very limited. Necessity is the Mother of Invention, so to speak which opens the door for Bird, Lyft, Uber and other future modes to persist. If you need to catch a flight, go to an event downtown but especially if you decide to drink/drive by all means utilize Uber. Depending on your destination it's much cheaper than a Yellow Cab. In our town you pay for something one way or another. Parking fare. Parking ticket. DUI. Ride share. Choose wisely. ps. One time me and my company asked a driver to do a donut in the street. so July 2024 I had to go to the doctor and my insurance pay for Uber so they sent me an Uber to pick me up from my house. The lady that picked me up and got on the interstate. She was driving erratic. She was speeding up, running up and behind vehicles and heartbreaking stopping my neck so I got to the doctor when they check my blood pressure was and I had Tinker Bell myself a little bit because I'm so terrified for driving and I called Uber and I told them about it. They didn't do anything so my neck to the doctor had whiplash I got whiplash for being a Uber. Driver and Uber told me that they can compensate me but Uber driver gave me whiplash. We scheduled a pickup at 8am to take us to the airport. We received a notification at 7:30am that our driver would arrive at 8:54am. That wouldn't work for us, so we cancelled and drove ourselves. Better late than never.... We were in town for the 2017 Yelp Spring Break and spent 5 spectacular days in your lovely city. As out-of-State visitors, we decided against renting a car because we've successfully used this ride-sharing program in other cities even though many of the events were within walking distance from our hotel. There were several WTMC (Welcome To My City) activities or events which took us further out of downtown San Antonio. Other than our rides to and from the airport, we called upon an additional Uber 10 times. This time around, we were more familiar with the Uber app and could appropriately select the level of service which suited our trips. However, when we needed a larger vehicle to transport ourselves, friends and/or luggage, we did not hesitate to call for more luxury. All of our drivers were friendly, helpful with providing landmark or destination histories and extremely polite. We always felt safe and confident in our drivers' abilities to navigate through traffic and varying road conditions as well as their law-abiding practices. I am extremely disappointed on the service provided by UBER to Boerne Tx. We scheduled a ride since yesterday to go to the airport today at 4:45 and received a message of confirmation. Today we received a message that the car was on the way, that it was 8 minutes from arriving and then that it was 1 minutes from picking us up. We stood outside on the street never to see a car and could not find the name of the driver or make of the car that was supposed to come so we had to drive ourselves to the airport so we wouldn't miss our flight!! I reserved a ride to the airport yesterday with Uber. I have email confirmation of my reservation. They never showed up this morning. I waited 10 minutes past their scheduled arrival time before getting Lyft instead. But, Uber charged me a cancellation fee. There is no way to contact a person at Uber. Our mission was to get from the Marriott Airport Courtyard to the Marriot Riverwalk. The Courtyard wouldn't shuttle us there, so that normally would have meant a cab ride for us. But since we were travelling with our Millennial aged son, who has been pushing us out of our technological comfort zone since his Game Boy days, we didn't cab it over, we Ubered it over. Uber would've got 5 stars easily had it not been for my last driver last night. She accused me of putting the wrong address in while I was trying just to clarify that I never put any address in, I moved the map pin. Then her the whole time just trying to calm me down by repeatedly speaking over me. Does that not sound like someone is trying to tell you to shut up tacitly, in other words? Well, that's what I told her, and then she threw me out. I couldn't mitigate it at all, just get out! Situations like this really make me worry about how safe your services are, because this is a clear indication of self management with lower than higher admission standards. So now, a driver can just speak her peace to a passenger and throw him out; all she has to do is cancel the ride and it never happened???? You know, just because the city doesn't put you under the same chauffeur regulations, does not give you the right to just put drivers through letting them think they can just say and do whatever they want. Do not use Uber to go to and from the airport in San Antonio! When we arrived the first Uber driver made us call for an Uber X. She said our luggage would make her car scrape the road? Just my husband and I and our 2 suitcases. We have traveled many times with the same luggage and it has never been an issue.
