I took the Megabus from Indianapolis to Chicago on June 16, 2019. I made it a family outing for my 2 sons and I because not only was it Father's Day but my birthday as well. We had a wonderful bus ride with assigned seats. The bus was on time, clean, driver very nice. When we arrived in Chicago, we immediately found a flea market type street fair with different musicians playing, lots of small things to buy, food offerings etc. We were near Portillo's Hot Dogs. We walked along unfamiliar streets but never had any problems. We found lots to do and had a full day in Chicago. When we boarded the Megabus to return to Indianapolis, it was lights out on a beautiful experience with my 2 sons and a perfect ending to our shared memories of June 16, 2019. read more

I'm going to give this two stars because the bus was very clean, the driver was nice, and it was super cheap. However, beware! I got BEDBUGS from this bus. Brought them home got into my house took me 2 weeks to get rid of...this was a couple of years ago, but still. Be careful. I would hose myself and my luggage off after the ride. I have used mega bus before and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. The bus was 20 min late also the driver just accounted that will take longer to arrive in Chicago. I have give myself 3:30 before a flight and this time will be cut very short. Also this bus does not have any electronic plugs despite what is advertised and also no WiFi. As a working professional any devices used here will be out of power especially before a long flight to Europe. Overall don't try to save yourself the money book a flight. My wife and I just did our first trip on the Mega Bus from Indianapolis to Chicago. I was very apprehensive as I have never really traveled by bus before. I was also dreading dealing with the 3 hour drive to Chicago along with the headache of navigating the city along with finding parking near the hotel. So we took a chance and booked the mega bus the night before our trip. I couldn't be more happy. The drive up was on a newer coach bus. We were in the heart of downtown in just about 3 hours. The next day we returned on a double decker which was a bit bumpier than the non double decker, but still a great ride. The best part? Round trip for my wife and me was $100 bucks total. I feel like we saved money by doing the bus. If we would have driving it would have cost us gas ($40), parking (at hotel was $75 per night). Driver was fine for Chicago to Indy trip. Although he let people talk on speakerphones and such. I guess he wasnt the police for that so oh well. As far as customer service, I was overcharged in the billing app. It forces you to use a trade in ticket and therefore charges you more for a ticket then if you just bought a ticket without the trade in. Their system forces you to use a trade in so basically forces you to pay more for a ticket. And the customer service people defend this....WORST COMPANY EVER!! never ever ride megabus again. This is my FIRST experience with Megabus and I am so beyond unhappy and frustrated with my experience. My ticket was for 2:35am this morning from Indianapolis to Chicago. My son and I arrive outside at the stop at 1:30am. At 1:45am, I receive an email that the bus will be 60 minutes late. We wait outside in below zero weather. At 3:30am (60 minutes later), no bus. We attempt to call Megabus but there is no one answering the phones from 1am -6am. At 5:00am a bus comes. We head over to board. The driver indicates that that bus is NOT our bus and calls dispatch who says our bus will be another 45 minutes. My son and I were beyond freezing and he had not been able to feel his feet for some time. We had to get warm and could not wait ANOTHER 45 minutes. We had to get warm. I contact megabus.com via FB messenger and via phone and I was told I would receive a 50% redemption on this mornings ticket, but not a refund. I was also told my bus arrived at 4:30 - no it did not. My son and I were there, outside, waiting from 1:30am until 5:00am - NO bus came at 4:30am. I have lost out on my hotel for tonight, I have 2 Megabus tickets for tomorrow from Chicago to Indy that I can't use and all Megabus told me was to email and file a complaint. The gentleman on the phone, John, refused to let me talk to his boss or a supervisor - so essentially, I have been screwed by Megabus and it is appalling that you would treat fellow human beings this way. I am so beyond upset that this is the type of service that people receive from Megabus - and I am contacting you because this is NOT the way people should be treated and I would like to be treated with decency and with proper customer service. While I do enjoy the benefits of riding Megabus to busy cities, it is frustrating how they often do not match the departure time as instructed on the ticket. Most of the time, through the megabus app, there is no ability to see where the bus is at (which may be a problem of the drivers not turning on the GPS). This is problematic as even the customer service reps do not know where the bus is either. Therefore, this makes the standard protocol in telling their customers to call them back within 10-15 minutes. What is also an issue is that Megabus is supposed to be a non-stop bus, but many times, the bus will stop half way for 15-30 minutes. I would just like a little more transparency with the company as it would be beneficial to know where the bus is at all times. When I first came the USA I thought the whole concept of megabus was perfect. I mean I was so impressed by my first ride to Louisville that I decided that I will never drive if I intend on visiting for a day or less to a place within a duration of Upto 3 hours. Later life led me to travel more than frequent ly to Chicago almost every other weekend for almost 1 whole year. I would say I have travelled at least 30 times with megabus hence my review should be a little more accurate than the one time travelers :P Location of pickup and drop: outside, inconvenient in extreme weather's! You might seek refuge inside the city court building if it's during weekday working hours that your bus is late and you fear frost bite. Timing: after reviewing my records(yes I keep record s of my travel) it appears that megabus is late about 60% with more than an hour late being 80% of the time in such situations. However, there are some times during which it will always be late namely the 4pm Sunday one, while the 2:30 is almost always on time. Cost: returns on average have costed me $50-80. Seldom did I travel under $50. The popular notion of travel for a dollar is not applicable because these tickets are usually for select times which never work for my convenience! I prefer driving now since gas is cheap! Tickets: only available online. If you want to cancel, unfortunately you will not get a refund however if you cancel 24hours in advance you get your money back in form of credit from which you can buy another journey. If trips are more than 2 hours delayed then you get your money back. Overall verdict: if you want to save your energy and not take your car to avoid Chicago's cost of parking then yes take the bus. I feel the service has been getting worse, they really need to improve because they will lose costumers fast now that the gas prices are low an d people will choose to drive. In summary, my main concerns from my most recent round-trip: -A driver that hit a light pole in downtown Chicago and kept going like it was nothing. -4+ hour delays and no updates or explanations -Rude customer service and drivers. Nickel & Dimin' your way to the top, huh. However, I have no idea how printing long codes is cheaper than printing names. This is more of a review of the Megabus drop-off / pick-up location than the bus experience itself. Coldest day of the year. Snow. Wind. To boot, a bungled, botched box of a Santa suit in my hands. Uh huh. And, on this trip, I opted for the antique suitcase that is by hand carrying only; so, for a man who thinks being hands free is key to his control-freak stay-safe & comfortable ways, this is not a situation conducive to walking a block or two to the nearest bar while I wait for my ride. I'll drop the box, the santa suit will come tumbling out, it'll fall in the slush, a horse & carriage will purge innards onto it and then Megabus will speed off from the stoplight splashing grease-splayed splats all over the santa suit -- and my luggage, and me. I won't have any of that flailing. I'd rather stand here in misery. But why do I have to be miserable? Why is there not a bar here? Hot Dog cart anyone? Beer shack? Sure, there's the legal beagle but they're rarely open it seems. And why one bar? Why more bail bonding than ale bonding, huh? I've only been dropped off here once... but I drive by this location all the time, and there my fellow Plebeians are... stranded, standing there in a desolate downtown urban space -- straight outta 12 Monkeys. Megabus has arrived. Thoroughly, people use this stop every day between Chicago & 'Nati travelers. It's time either Megabus invests in some kind of hipster-style bus stop where they have a "megabus" banana stand or a taco truck. I don't care. Just something. I'm paying the same amount as Greyhound now. And, they hook us up with stale donuts and coffee surrounded by 3am Mennonite huddles. Who's the hipster travel bus now? I recently took the Megabus to Chicago for a one day trip with a few friends. This was my first experience booking and riding on the Megabus and the experience was enjoyable. We showed up at the bus stop, showed the driver our confirmation emails and away we went to the windy city. We were dropped off near Union Station and I didn't have any trouble finding restaurants, bathroom, shopping etc. in the area. It was clean and felt safe. The bus was much cleaner than any Greyhound bus I have been on. The seats did seem to be more crowded than a Greyhound bus, but that could be due to the double decker design of the Megabus, I'm not certain. The driver was courteous and pleasant and on our return trip to Indy, I was able to sit in front of the window on the top deck. It made for some interesting views (again, late at night). We arrived back in Indy on time. I will probably ride the Megabus again and soon. It's a lot cheaper than gas and parking in Chicago and I can use CTA to get around in the Windy City. read more

The bus driver and staff to help with bags were friendly and personable. Most of all, the buses were on time and the ride was smooth. Just a few key points to future megabus customers, there are no refunds on tickets, so don't look online closer to the date to see if your ticket price went down, (because it most likely did) which will ruin your day or week. we bought tickets for 100 dollars round trip. Now that I have been here twice I can say, it is a decent location but there aren't many places to go inside of to sit in, while waiting for the bus here. Megabus has saved my traveling butt numerous times. This one in particular showed up about 20 minutes late (a 6:30ish a.m. trip) en route to Chicago. It seems pretty standard that Megabus offers free Wi-Fi and air conditioning, so the ride back was breezy despite being split up from my guy since we were the last group heading toward Chi-town, thus having to deal with folks entitled to an entire row of seats for their sleeping pleasure. But all was great. Without traffic from Indy to Chicago, the ride was about 2.5 hours. Comfy seats, nice air circulation...and all that without the price tag of a Greyhound. I dig it. TIPS: *Be sure to have your confirmation number available immediately or risk getting told off by the driver. *Sometimes a no-brainer, but I've fallen victim to this kind of unpreparedness: Wear layers or bring a blanket. read more

Mega bus is quite possible the worst transportation experience I've had in my life. I went for the first time with my sister expecting a nice three hour ride to Indy from Chicago. It went horribly wrong from the start. 1. The bus was over 30 minutes late which would be fine if the staff members have us an update about where it was at. But instead they were horribly rude and frustrated at the bus and the customers for our concern. Do not take the megabus if you have to be anywhere on time. More than 9 out of 10 times it is at least 30 minutes late to depart and at least 45 minutes late to arrive at the destination. 2. The megabus is also rarely $1. To me it seems like deceptive advertising because unless you are taking a weekday bus leaving at 3am, tickets cost upwards of $25 one way. 3. Horrible conditions also characterize the megabus experience. I have only ever taken the three hour Chi town Indy trip but I couldn't even imagine going any longer. The leg room is worse than a Southwest flight. Never get stuck sitting next to the bathroom, and bring noise canceling headphones because there always seems to be a screaming toddler within a five seat radius. 4. The customer service is just ridiculous. The drivers are rude probably because they are frustrated about the buses being late. I had a bus stop for 20 minutes on the side of the road with absolutely no explanation. All in all, the megabus is a horrible experience even for a CTA veteran who has dealt with the worst of public transit. Do yourself a favor and take a train or carpool. Megabus sucks. read more

My wife and I took the megabus to Chicago from Indianapolis and the service was great. I didn't even have to print our ticket - just showed the driver the email on my smartphone and we boarded. If you're up for public transportation, this is the way to go. The bus is more spacious than the Greyhound and the trips are more direct. It's inexpensive and pretty low key. I'd rather take public transit than drive any day, so this is always my first choice when getting to Chicago or Cincinnati. The first bus from Minneapolis to Chicago was 45 minutes late. When I arrived in Chicago, the second bus to Indianapolis had left already (the second was actually on time for once!). I was completely stranded in Chicago during rush hour carrying 3 bags. I called customer service and they told me I had to wait 8.5 hours for the next bus to arrive. It was incredibly stressful. They left me high and dry and didn't even consider that people may have a layover from the first bus to the second. I will NEVER travel with this company again. Yes I paid $2.50 for both bus rides (although I ended up going home with the train for my second ride) but in retrospect I would've rather paid the $170 for a one-way flight had I known Megabus was going to leave me stranded in Chicago. I used megabus 2-4x a year from 2007-2013. Back when I started riding the buses were new and clean, the drop off places were usually in public areas near lunch or cafe places to wait. The buses were usually on time and would only be an hour-1.5 hours delayed unless there was a serious issue. Most of my trips were from Indy to Chicago (However, I took one to NYC once). Usually the buses had people in them but they weren't heavily crowded unless you were on a rush hour trip. All seating was general seating and people minded their own business. The price after all was said and done with tickets was under $30 I decided to relive old times and travel on megabus to a professional meeting in Chicago a week ago. My, how times have changed. The buses on my return trips were dirty, worn, the advertised WiFi and outlets didn't work, there was reserve seating and if you did use it wasn't enforced. There was a passenger almost pan handling to me on the bus (luckily my worn out phone charger dissuaded him). The buses were packed. The pick up and drop off location in Chicago was in a somewhat industrial area that didn't seem like the best area. The Indy pick up location was moved to the city market which wasn't bad in terms of public areas with amenities, but there is not good parking for those trying to pick a passenger up like there was when it was at the city county building. My price for the trip was around $45 (not the glory days of $20 round trip). I also noticed that some of the mega buses had a coach USA sign on them. If there was a merger this wasn't the best for the consumer. TL; DR: What was once good/ nice is now similar to Greyhound disasters. read more

I guess I'll just write a list of events that has happened using their service. Late Buses. (50/50 chance) Extreme temp. to the point passengers were yelling at the driver to turn the heat up or down. Buses that were FULL even though having bought a ticket a week in advance. Website not stating the bus location has changed. Costumer service reps getting angry and hanging up when simple questions were asked. Buses not being clean between routes. (50/50 chance) Costumer service reps not refunding money when the issue was clearly on their side. Buses being canceled without notifying the passengers. You couldn't even open a email with their WiFi signal. Well, there is a few things I could remember. I was scheduled for a 2:35A.M departure from Indianapolis, IN to Chicago, IL and at 2:55 A.M the bus had still not even arrived yet. When I called customer service 908-282-7420 I received a lot of unnecessary conversation and the representative Alex was rude. He was of no assistance and instead of trying to ensure the proper service to the consumer he persisted on proving a point and attempting to argue. BE CAREFUL. When I last used this service, I got some dirt-cheap fares for $1 each way, but there's a reason why they only cost $1... The reason is because their customer service is HORRENDOUS. They don't have any way of tracking the locations of buses, and if you call them to ask, they will only tell you to call back 10 minutes later. Even if the bus is literally in front of you, they will tell you that it is probably stuck in traffic, so call back in 10 minutes. If they don't have the ability to track the buses, they should just be honest about it and say that they don't have the ability -- despite GPS being everywhere. It makes me suspect that they are trying to bait people into low fares, then force them to buy expensive fares later (which would be the only way they can make money, I think). No matter how we look at it, customer service is AT BEST incompetent, and at worst, dishonest. Anyone buying a ticket should be on guard. So, OK, I am a Megabus repeat passenger. I have been often enough on it over the past two years (usually once or twice a month to Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati) that I have a pretty good view on how it works. In a word: Uneven. Hard to predict what kind of service you will get. Here is the story: This week I went to Chicago from Indianapolis on the 9:45 am bus on Tuesday, June 29. I booked far out and got, as usual, an economic seat. The bus was a little late but, so what, it was in any case better than Greyhound ever is. And most airlines, for that matter. The problem was with the driver . . . . . . . . . and with the safety of the twenty or so persons on the bus. I was sitting up close on the right hand and was able to observe her recklessness. First, she drove all the way from Indianapolis to Chicago with only one hand on the wheel. This is because, second, she talked all the way from Indianapolis to Chicago on her cell phone or device of some kind which she held with her left hand. Like, what about the safety of the customers??? Giving all your attention to traffic? Obviously not her concern. Third, she dangerously tailgated right on the trunk or back of every car or semi she came up against. Clearly not in the law. Fourth, she drove all the way in the pass lane . . . . Is that enough? There is more. Much to my relief a state policeman pulled her over. At first she had an attitude. Then, he informed her of her situation, which would not be good if he did not have an emergency he was trying to get to. The minute this cop was out of sight, this crazy driver was back on the phone, tailgating and hogging the pass lane. I thought of calling this to her attention but I am sure that I would have gotten an attitude. After I arrived in Chicago, I wrote Megabus an e-mail informing them of this driver's behavior. So far, no answer. Maybe I won't get one or maybe Megabus doesn't care. But this driver represents an accident waiting to happen and, in addition to the hurt and pain, possibly death, that this could cause passengers and others, it could surely hit Megabus with bad PR and possible litigation. Hey, Mega, would that thought wake you up? With this experience under my belt, I went to the Union Station stop last night wondering what I would do if she should be the driver on the return. Well, I know what I would have done. Probably rent an Avis and drive myself under safe conditions! Fortunately, as though in some crazy sort of ying-yang, I experienced one of the safest and most personable Megabus drivers that I have encountered. His name was Duane. He was courteous, drove safely and provided excellent customer service. What to do? I think that under the conditions, I may give Megabus a rest . . . . on the other hand, if I should ever receive a reply to my message and if I were to conclude that most of the drivers are like Duane, I might use Mega again. I just thought that I would share this story to balance all of the enthusiasm for Mega. I want Megabus to be megasafe! read more

Booked rountrip from Chicago to Indiana. First bus was on time byt the 3.5 hrs ride was miserable as the A/C was either not working or the driver didn't want to turn it on. Their horrible customer service doesn't end there. I'm know trying to get back to Chicago and the bus is "delayed" for more than an hour and some customer representatives are telling other passengers that there is no bus coming... MegaBus's parent , Coach USA, is apparently taking over some or all of MegaBus operations. They have replaced the double decker bus with a regular coach. On a trip Jan. 13 from Indy to Chicago, we even stopped for lunch at a Arbys/Truck Stop place which made for a nice break. (MegaBus never used to make any stops.) Driver was professional and courteous. Trip took 3 hours and 45 minutes. New bus stop drop off on Polk Street is 6 long blocks or more south of Union Station with no nearby public transportation much less a bathroom or warm waiting area. So they need to move back closer to Union Station or move into the Greyhound station. In short, MegaBus is gone. Welcome CoachUSA. Objectively speaking this company is literal dogshit. I've had buses that did not show up and was not offered a refund twice. Was once thirty seconds late and the bus was not moving. Driver got off opened the door and told me it was too late, however I have waited for 30 minutes to an hour when the bus was late. Customer service is non existent and refuses to tell you anything concrete about your bus arrival times and status. Picks up in a sketchy location in Chicago. Claims free wifi but it is so slow it caches the Wall Street journal because it can't load the images. Outlets don't work 75% of the time so charging your devices is a game of roulette. Wish I could organize a group boycott so the company would have to make changes. I encourage all others to share negative experiences and spam the companies social media so they will be forced to change. Never taking there buses again. When I first started riding these buses, the service was great, but then as it has become more popular for some reason it has gone downhill. Megabus, Indy...you've got to get better. Overall, the drivers from Indy to Chicago (where I'm usually headed) are better than those from Chicago. They are helpful, nice, and fast. However, there have been a few issues at this stop that I think should be improved. a) Please select a stop. While it is posted on your website for the Washington stop, some drivers still stop at the Alabama stop. This has happened twice and can be confusing. b) Yesterday, it appears the 7PM bus did not arrive. I am not sure of all the details, but there was a mad mod at the stop at 9PM. Thank God you had a good driver that night who was able to get many people on the 9PM from the 7PM in a polite manner and defuse the situation. But isn't this something that headquarters should have been able to solve? Its troubling to know I may not get on a bus I paid for because something happened and then the company has not planned for a bus to pick me up until the next schedule bus comes and let's all pray that bus has enough seats! Overall, Megabus Indy, you are a good company for low cost bus fare to Chicago. Great job on the drivers. But can you please improve by thinking about back up buses in case something happens and informing your drivers of the correct bus stop? I've attempted to use megabus twice. The first time they cancelled the bus altogether due to bad weather. That's fine except I only received notification of the cancellation after I had someone drive me to the stop in the storm. And yes, I called them before we left an they said it was still running. The second time, right now, the bus rolled up 30 mins. Late with zero apology or acknowledgement from the driver. As we were waiting a woman told me that she waited THREE hours for this bus last week an when it finally came they made her but another ticket! I took Greyhound Express without a problem once before so that's what I'm going back to for Indianapolis to Chicago trips. Ps. Oh and it's in the mid 90's today an there was virtually no shade at the stop. Can't wait for megabus to get sued for someone getting sunstroke. read more

I read some negative reviews here and was a little worried about my round trip Indianapolis to Chicago, but it went without a hitch! Both buses were on time, I loved being able to plug my phone in overhead, and got a very good price. Special kudos to bus driver Douglas (I wish I remembered his last name) who drove the route from Chicago to Indianapolis on Wednesday evening. The cons: yeah, no warm place to wait, but in Indianapolis, the City Market is close, so I sat there with a coffee until shortly before my bus, and in Chicago, Union Station is close enough to sit inside until shortly before bus. I payed extra for one of the reserved seats with a table. The downside of this is that if someone sits opposite you, you have almost no leg room. As if ALWAYS being rude and late for pick up wasn't bad enough, this Tuesday took the cake. I was on my way home from medical treatments in Chicago. I was watching a movie on my phone sitting on the seat next to me and feel asleep. When I woke up about an hour later, someone had stolen my phone! If that isn't bad enough, I reported it to the bus driver and all that she did was make fun of me because i had been snoring and tell me I had 6 minutes to get off of the bus. The service is efficient, economical, and convenient - transport from downtown Indy to downtown Chicago takes about 3.5 hours. When you consider the time that it would take to get to and from the airport, clear security, and take the plane ride this seems like a clear winner. I suspect that it is more ecological too, to transport a group via bus vs a bunch of people driving or taking the plane. The bus was right on time and onloaded and offloaded passengers quickly. It was not crowded, the seats are well maintained. On the trip to Chicago, the driver played Pirates of the Carribean on the on-board tvs. On the return trip, I sat on the upper level and it was quiet. Cost was $40 round trip for me. read more

This is the second time megabus has been over 2 hours late for a ride. I put my number on my reservation so they could call me with any updates, and nothing. I've called 3 times, and the last time I called the rep said it would be another 2 hour wait even though another bus was scheduled to come in 45 min, but they wouldn't change my reservation due to policy. When asked if I could speak to the manager 4 times, the rep hung up on me. Worst customer service and professionalism from any company I've dealt with, will never use them again. Ever. read more

First of all, the customer service sucks. You could tell these people do not care about your situation at all. They answer the phone and tell you to hold until you hang up. My recent experience sucks because the bus never came to pick me up. There was a big group of people who plan on this trip, not just me. It's a joke when you get a text from them saying the bus is delayed for 60-90 minutes. What that means is the bus not coming. I waited for 2 hours. The bus was suppose to come at 6:05. There was another bus that came at 7:15 and told us to wait for our bus. To save you time, a headache, and your money, I advise to take the grayhound. read more

Scheduled to depart at noon from Indy to Chicago. It's 2:45 pm and the customer service line seems to be unable or unwilling to tell me when to expect the bus. In the meanwhile I'm expected to wait near the stop... which is a marked pole on the side of the road. Will not be using megabus again. read more

we booked pretty far out & has worked really well for us, BUT we went into their Internet site to cancel & could NOT find our reservations ??? i emailed them, there wasn't any record & i was not charged, Probably Participant ERROR LOL it's always been comfortable & never that full, but we usually go during the week on day trips read more
